I sing with a baritone/bass voice. I think it would sound awesome if I could accompany you with this song. People like me are very limited on lead vocal song choices.
Back in the mid-late 70's I played a Rheem Key Bass and sang in a band called, "The Original Miami Sound Machine." We were a 13 to 15 piece group complete with a full horn section. This group was founded by the brother of Gloria Estefan and she would hang out during practice begging to be a part of the band. We thought she was a big pain in the butt by wanting to change the "fat" sound we had into more of a Miami pop type sound.
One Saturday during practice, she was there again constantly interrupting us. We all had met the day before and decided to tell Gloria's brother to make the choice of either her or us in the band. We all promptly got our walking papers, and the rest is so called history!
Since I wasn't a full time musician, it didn't affect me as hard as the other members.
I went on to play in a reggae band called King Sporty. He was part of the fast rising reggae sound along with Jimmy Cliff, Bob Marley, etc. It was some of my favourite times playing music, although I did look like the proverbial sore thumb at concerts trying to blend in with my Caucasian Persuasion! 😂

I’m focused on blues-rock shows right now and making my original music. Will put an opera song out in the future- but need to go to a real studio for that as my little set up can’t take all that sound 😂😭

When I hear this song, I envision a high school kid who works at a fancy restaurant as a busser. That the words sung are to a beautiful girl who he adores but who was cruel to him and said mean things, which he has now taken into his being. We all have words we wish we could take back, because they were cruel. We have all also been the busser.

I never realised how beautiful and haunting this song actually is until now. Kate's voice captures the quintessence of it. It_s like a distraught and dying heart crying out in pain. I guess it resonates with a lot of others and I can_t see it dying anytime soon because everyone knows what it is to love something so beautiful you feel like you_re dying because your love is forlorn. And Kate delivered this feeling with devout poignancy. It moves one to tears.

I do not like opera but I recognize the amazing ability that operatic singers have. It is no surprise to me that an opera singer can sing pop songs. What would surprise me is if a pop singer could sing an opera.

Well put. So very true. Kind of unfair how pain from a broken heart can both ooze it's way into every part of your soul, and then linger for days, months, years. She has a beautiful voice. It's made even better by how sincere and heart felt her emotions guide her through this interpretation. I've heard Radiohead now hates this song.
