I would bet that Farmingham? study did not have a ketogenic group! Dave Feldman's current study on a minority ketogenic subset of @LeanMassHyperResponders might show this entirely new category that could defy previous thinking. Since I personally appear to be in that confounding very high LDL/very high HDL & very low TG category, I am crossing my fingers that the second year scans may even show regression (while in sustained ketosis) in atherosclerotic calcium plaque scores!???

SHOCKED my doctor with my panel after telling her I was low carb/keto and got the typical " that diet is not healthy and your markers are going to be high." My total was 184, LDL 95, HDL 77 and triglycerides 57. My A1C went from 5.9 to 5.2 and I have dropped 60 pounds.

I'm glad you mentioned how, when obese, you have so many other health issues that people's immediate concern w/ cholesterol feels silly. No one says anything about the risk of diabetes when I grab a pint of ice cream but the second I eat a stack of burgers for breakfast, they're worried about my health lol.

This is what happened to me. Went to the Doc in 2015 said I was pre diabetic and a very high A1C need to start metformin immediately. I didn't. Went on Keto then carnivore. Went back to my doctor in 2016, I had lost 100lbs, got abs for the first time in my life, felt great, normal A1c, No longer pre diabetic. But wait, my cholesterol went up for the first time in my life and I need to get on a statin asap and stop eating so much eggs and meat or serious consequences. Can't win. I choose to feel good. My cholesterol that they wanted to immediately put me on a statin for 230 cholesterol what yours is now. Never high before but this one test meant I needed to be on one immediately. Almost every patient can access their lab work online from the health care center you go to with a passcode from the office. There you can read and learn all about your health and study what it means. I have a CBC once a year and I stay up on it. Yes, mine is super high LDL, however my triglycerides and HDL is great. LDL stand's for lousy lipids, HDL healthy lipids, triglycerides are clogging the arteries.

That's because your diet before was 100 times worse if your waist was 44 inches. You could have done the exact same by eating a well more balanced diet and replacing most of the meat with oily fish. The diet you're eating now is not balanced at all.
Just because you lose weight doesn't mean it's good for you. Exactly the same happened to me on a keto diet. Went from 71kg to 57kg. I stopped the diet and now I've been eating more complex carbs like porridge in the morning and fish vegetables and other seafood. I still eat some chicken but not often.
My diet is at least 50% carbs and my weight is still exactly the same, 57kg.
It's nothing at all to do with the carbs if they aren't refined carbs. If you eat refined carbs with added sugar and fat all together like in something like chocolate chip cookies then yes, you will definitely put weight on.

While the numbers are good indicators of what is in your bloodstream, what is MORE important is what they are doing inside your arteries. I recently had an arterial plaque test done, and it showed a little CALCIUM buildup in my heart. I always thought the plaque that would cause obstruction came from fat. But calcium blockages are caused by sugar. I was told by the doctor that once it forms, it cannot be removed. I hope this isn't true, but nevertheless, it seems like doctors are more concerned about fat in your blood than sugar. But as I understand it, blockages caused by fat in your arteries CAN be reduced and dissolved. The trick is to make sure they don't form in the first place.
So my question to you is, regardless of what your cholesterol numbers are, what is happening within your arteries? Have you ever imaged them to find out?

    • @leilanoorbellydance

As to fiber, once adapted, my gut does way better on essentially zero fiber! My IBS is gone! Any more than occasional lettuce, sets me off and cruciferous veggies are an absolute no no for me, but I didn’t realize that until I stopped for a while, then tried them again! Last time I “experimented” by eating 2 bites of broccoli, I regretted it for almost two weeks! But you will need to be patient while you adapt. Make sure you stay hydrated. What does keto-esque mean to you, as in what in general are you eating?

@@VeldaE12 Keto-esque meaning that I'm not as "fat obsessed" as most of the Keto-world. I also enjoy tomatoes, peanuts and berries fairly frequently. This is also my concern with staying on pure carnivore. I like steamed broccoli, onions, tomatoes, cucumbers, peppers, asparagus, berries and soft cheeses (like cream cheese).
Today - mind you, after a 4 day fast - I had rotisserie chicken, steamed broccoli, cucumbers, strawberries and cottage cheese. Tonight for dinner I have salmon thawing with a bunch of purple asparagus I picked up at the store today.
I have had issues with constipation on my keto-esque journey, which is why I'm concerned, and why I have regular cucumber and steamed broccoli. I take "Natural Calm" to help, which will speed evacuation without blocking me up - but if I forget, then I sometimes struggle with some bowel issues.

    • @leftlane8355
      @leftlane8355 2 роки тому

Biggest thing for an issue will be the purge of bacteria from the gut that thrive on carbs. Other than that if you have gastrointestinal distress (rapid evacuation) please please please don’t stop your journey. Play with the fat to protein ratio in your eating and try using cold fats or cool. Sometimes rendered fat can have that affect. Do you have a video on what you purchased at the grocery store? I’m really curious to know what your cupboards look like. I am trying to get on board with this and change my life around but it’s weird to go to the grocery store and not purchase all of the extra items. Should I only be going to the butcher shop? I am 5’5” tall 191 pounds. I’ve put on 60 pounds in the past six years. I’d really like to lose some weight again. But I need to rethink my mind. CRP is high too.

      "High % in sticky cells"?
I don't know if it's a lipoprotein subfraction test you refer to.
If you haven't got a lipoprotein subfraction test then it's the first thing you should check out.
Then you'll be able to see if you have any high density small oxidized LDL-particles.

    • @acke26
      @acke26 Рік тому +1

ks1961ks - Your scores are quite high
      (European reference in parentheses)
      Tot. 436 mg/dl = 11,2 mmol/ L (6,0)
      TGR: 81 mg/dl = 2,1 mmol/ L (1,8)
      LDL: 332 mg/dl = 8,5 mmol/ L (3,0)
      HDL: 77 mg/dl = 2,0 mmol/ L (+1,3)
      CRP high
Normally the Triglycerides and CRP are more important when evaluating risk of CVD. Your Triglycerides are not very high.
But since your total cholesterol and LDL is that high that's why your doctor has put you on statins.
You could ask your doctor for a genetic test to see if you have FH (Familiar Hyperkolerserolemia) or if you are a so called hyperabsorber and lacks the genes ABC G5 and G8.
Not everybody are suited for LCHF or carnivore-diet. A hyperabsorber or hyper responder will decrease the cholesterol levels when eating a more balanced diet. Carbs, or more specific, the fibers in carbs blocks the cholesterol uptake in the intestines.
Do you have the cholesterol readings from before you went on a carnivore-diet?
If you have FH, then you just have to take statins. You should also let your children or/and siblings make the genetic test for FH.
You should check your CRP again to see if it was a temporary infection. Otherwise you should try a longer treatment with antibiotics.
As Rashan mentioned, statins tends to lower the bigger LDL particles which actually isn't good, but if you have FH then it's no question you must take statins.

SAD diet produced Cholesterol 228 | Trig 140 | HDL 61 | LDL 139 | Chol/HDL Ratio 3.7 (yes, within range of 0.0-5.0). I thought, wow, it will be interesting to see what the results of my CAC test are in 2 weeks. Received results and it said I have a zero percent chance of having any heart event in the next ten years. Hmmm. CAC only shows hardened plaque. I have to say, as someone educated in nutrition and biochemistry, and thus someone who is very much against the idea of a carnivore diet for most people, this video was more balanced than I expected. Totally true that context matters and ratios matter - it does not change the fact that eating a diet that excludes fiber increases colon cancer risk and vLDL/triglyceride increase to risky levels. Exclusion diets like this can be extremely dangerous in the long term, but this video was careful to not over-promote or generate totally bogus anti-vegetarian propaganda, which I appreciate.
Short rant - it sounds crazy but I know people that adopt the carnivore diet simply because its not a vegan diet, which in their opinion is a lifestyle choice aligns with a certain political ideology. As with all things, balance is key

Looking at HDL and LDL, on its own, isn't that useful. People think of HDL as the "good" cholesterol and LDL as the "bad" cholesterol, but that's really an oversimplification.
Within HDL, we have HDL-2 particles which are the large and buoyant molecules that are protective. Then, we have the HDL-3 particles which are the small and dense particles that are inflammatory and anti-athrogenic.
Within LDL, we have LDL-A molecules which are the buoyant, fluffy molecules that do no damage whatsoever, as long a they're not damaged by oxidation, and we have LDL-B molecules which are the small, hard, and dense molecules that promote atherosclerosis.
So, looking at cholesterol by itself without a particle density test is pretty useless. You can have low LDL and high HDL, but if the pattern of HDL is that of a high proportion of HDL-3 molecules and the pattern of LDL is that of a high proportion of LDL-B molecules, then it will be worse than for someone who has low HDL and high LDL but who has a patten of a high proportion HDL-2 molecules and LDL-A molecules.
Furthermore, study published in the American Heart Journal, which was supported by the American Heart Association, analyzed data from 136,905 patients hospitalized for heart attacks between 2000 and 2006 and what the researchers had found was that 72.1% of the patients had LDL levels less than the current LDL cholesterol target to be considered at risk (130mg/dL).
The researchers also found that half of the patients with a history of heart disease had LDL cholesterol levels lower than 100 mg/dL, and 17.6 percent of patients had LDL levels below 70 mg/dL, which are guideline targets for LDL cholesterol in those at fair risk and at high risk for cardiovascular disease.
