Every time I watch this, I wish for a different ending. James Wilby is one of my favorite actors, and I've never seen Imogene before this movie, but she's absolutely perfect, lovely, sweet.

So very sad. Makes me cry, Especially at the end scene. Gutless coward leaving her for a woman who had money, and poor Megan was pregnant. She died of a broken heart plus the pain of child birth. At least Karma got back to him when he saw what a beautiful boy Megan gave birth to. Even in death, she was still waiting for him to come back for her. I am crying right now as I am typing this comment.

But this is the power of cinema. It has the ability to awaken strong empathic concern. (My wife thinks I am crazy to have such reactions - worse for her.) One can live the lives of others simply by watching films. And learn about oneself and others, thereby.

I don't remember exactly, but I first saw it in a movie program aired on Sunday around noon on KBS in the late 80's or early 90's. I haven't had a chance to the movie again until yesterday, But even now, 30 years later, I can't forget the last scene where he happens to meet his son. I'm watching it again on Naver Movies today. I'm in tears watching that last scene.

It was 1989. Tirana, Albania was still totally kept in isolation from the world by a dictatorship. The only TVs station, had began to show some foreign films. One evening this masterpiece was on TV. The whole country cried. This film remained unforgettable.😢

Such a sad yet powerfull ending. He betrayed such a beautifull kind woman who died cause of a broken heart not just because of labor complications. Now he is stuck with a controlling witch bossing him around. He gets to learn of the fate of the one he betrayed then he gets to see the son he never got to know. That should haunt him the rest of his life and hopefully so.

1 day i was sick with the flu and i was flipping thru the channels and found nothing good on tv. I usually only watch comedys and action and dislike all others. But desperate i came acrost this and figured well better than watching talk shows. I was shocked that this movie had me in it's grips from beginning to end. And never before did i want to put my hands thru the screen and choke the heck out of that loser for betraying such a beautyfull and kind lady. Well some things are worse than death and at the end he gets to see what was the result of his cowardice actions. I know if i had done that i couldn't live with myself, that would haunt me for the rest of my life.

This movie is not your typical chic flick. This movie was very realistic and a good lesson for young people. The decisions you make in your life could affect you for the rest of your life. Mr. Ashton chose a woman by means of standards and affluence. He mistakenly underestimated Megan's value as a woman and a person. Just because a person is raised as a peasant does not mean that they are "worthless". Nobody comes out of the womb knowing how to read and write. It's easy to be affluent when it is handed to you on a silver platter. But how easy is it to earn it through hard work and perserverance? He never gave her a chance and she definitely had potential. She paid with her life and he paid by living with pain and regret. Alas, tis the reality of life.

Making a girl sad is the worst thing that can happen, worst than losing your own child. Seriously. Love is a dangerous thing. Yet, I think there is a problem with the way we see love. We should go back to nature being our real love, and enjoy.
