- A mesmerizing talk by Red Bull Athlete and High Performance Psychologist Cedric Dumont about flow hacking and becoming the best version of yourself, how to survive in high-risks environments and educated risk taking because when you stop taking risks, you stop living life!
Born in Brussels, Belgium, Cedric Dumont has always been the ‘first one to jump in’ when the words 'action' and 'adventure sports' are mentioned. His life as a full time Red Bull athlete revolves around freedom, commitment and pushing personal limits on a daily basis. Not only has he seen amazing places, his work has also taught him respect for the environment and others, has given him an unprecedented drive for improvement, and has kept him humble on those ‘high gravity' days.
The ability to meet new people all over the globe, to be close to the elements, and to share and inspire keeps him moving and fascinates him. It has resulted in a free, mindful, and engaged lifestyle. But not only does he live on the edge himself, as a graduate in Applied Sports & High Performance Psychology he coaches other professional athletes to provide them with the mental edge and skills necessary to achieve their extreme goals and unleash their full potential.
This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at ted.com/tedx
Cedric' three tips to find flow:
1) Be a tough-minded optimist
Rely on your skills and experiences. Trust in your vision and instinct.
This combination allows you to believe in a good outcome and focus on the present moment.
2) Find deep focus
a) Be absorbed in the moment. Don't multitask.
b) Be selective. Have clear priorities. Do less but better.
3) Be an educated risk-taker
Take more risks and accept failure to improve and expand your comfort zone.
If you take more risks, you'll become happier, more satisfied and you'll feel more fulfilled.
In time, you'll become more comfortable with risk and find more satisfaction and engagement while doing difficult tasks.
I love this quote: "When you stop taking risks, you stop living life"
I've watched and listened to many, many excellent TED talks ... but I think, so far, this one is the most beautiful, and the most inspiring. Thank you.
I was lucky to see Cedric presentation, he came to give a speech in my company, very inspiring, I do recommend it a lot
"Preparation precedes mastery." :) Yes!
This is AMAZING. The video at the beginning gave me goosebumps. Keep doing what you do!
It is exactly the same in motorcycle racing. You slow it down by looking far ahead and you go where you look. Loose focus and you crash or run off the track.
Super nice to see and heard you, Cedric, talking and motivating people about human flight and to pursuit our dreams
This has got to be one of the best and the most under watched Ted talks EVER?? He is on par 100%
So much love and respect. This is going down in my most favorite of favorites. 🙌🏼
I love how engaged the audience is.
I like how many times he said "I believe". He was trying to make it clear that he really did believe this, which is good. I have heard enough about what people think. I want to know what they believe.
Well said, Cedric. Thank you.
ABSOLUTELY AWESOME!
This opening music is right up my alley!
Best Ted for me... thank u anna

A very powerful talk!!! one of my favorites.
Injection of strength
An absolutely wonderful talk! As good as many viral ted talks. Kindly do less jumping, since you've a family to take care of. With prayers, good luck.✌️👍👍👍🙏🙏🙏

Belgium's Edward Norton is right!
Wu Wei. For me, ancient eastern philosophy and the ancient stoics are the ultimate, nothing today is unique, only a different version of something else that's been known for centuries.

I can see his fear in his eyes
He admits many of his friends died and yet he continues base jumping when having a child. I know many base-jumper-widows and I think you should stop pushing the boundaries when you have a serious relationship or a child. It is deeply sad to see those left behind...
Dudes got 2500 base jumps and has completed more than 11,000 sky dives, if anyone should be pushing the envelop its him, no man commits to jumping from such platforms at such questionable heights without accepting the probable consequences that come with it, its impossible and i'm sure that discussion has been brought up to his family more times than he probably cares to admit ... Taking that away from him would leave a shell of a man ... It is selfish for anyone to rip away from you what drives you in life for the sake of hording you to themselves ... His wife has an idea as to who she decided to marry, when you accept someone as a life partner you accept everything that comes with them ... If anything does happen she'll have a piece of him to hold onto ... his child.
I feel like another Red Bull
It’s all fun and games till you get hurt lol
thanks anyway
Beyond mentioning the importance of finding flow, this talk does absolutely nothing to actually explain how to get from fear to flow.
Accept risk. Do stuff that scares you, when the outcome will be better than the fear.
Why is Cedric Dumont doing this to us?
Watch it again, I think you'll get it better. Have you ever thought of jumping from a cliff? That's fear...and beyond it.. there's flow... He's an athlete, so let's not expect decorated and diplomatic explanation from him, try to understand his genuine expression.
Flow is when you are COMPLETELY present to the moment
@@syncstudy8792, he told us at the beginning that he is also a Hight Performance Psychologist. And I agree he also told us that fear is in other words inescapable and sometimes necessary in a way to improve ourselves. What a magnificent sharing!
