  • Lisa Gade reviews the HP ZBook Firefly G8 14”, a premium thin and light “mobile workstation” with Intel Tiger Lake CPUs, NVIDIA Quadro T500 graphics and optional DreamColor display. Invest in yourself! Use my link and check out the first chapter of any DataCamp course for FREE! bit.ly/3wvdRln . The aluminum chassis ZBook targets those who need better than typical Ultrabook performance with a max of 32GB or 64GB RAM, NVIDIA graphics and the optional wide gamut, 500 nit DreamColor display. It’s available with 4G or 5G, has good battery life, and two Thunderbolt 4 ports. The Firefly is also available in a 15” size. It targets engineering managers and power users, rather than those who need the performance of HP’s full throttle mobile workstations like the ZBook Power, Studio and Create lines.

      Me too. SO far so good. I upgraded the SSD to 980 Pro 4 x4 even though it only supports gen 3. The RAM to 32 GB with a pair I had lying around and just order the Snapdragon x55 5G modem for $70 bucks. With all that said I returned my previous purchase which was EliteBook 845 G9 spec'd out. The AMD had a screen flickering issue and back dating the driver didn't fix it. I saved $1200.

    I have read a couple of different things, getting confused by crucial - I heard you say soldered ram and lack of additional slot means ram upgrade is not possible.. but to confirm if you see this/have 2 mins can you confirm if ram expansion is possible with the firefly g8 14 i7 11th, 16gb, t500? Does the t500 take away ram expansion as an option? Thanks in advance

    Just went from a Zbook 14u G5 to this machine at work and this review really hits the key notes. It absolutely shreds my previous machine, especially in terms of battery life and performance. And as pointed out, it's even nice to type on. However like most laptops it feels like cheap plastic compared to my Air M2 (but it doesn't pale as much as the 14u one did), but Excel for macOS stinks and Apple chips cannot handle large XML/CSV files. Like, at all.

    11 hrs for a wannabe mobile workstation is pretty awesome. I suppose that was that with cellular enabled? If so that's better than awesome. And what excellent displays. And a wannabe ThinkPad keyboard! Sounds like you get your money's worth.

    Amazing review as always. What strikes me is how little choice you have as a consumer on these devices. In the uk and Europe at least, you can only get a couple of g8 models, preset by whatever HP sends to the retailers, i.e. can’t customise your screen, processor etc to your preference. Big shame.

  • @jwz3845
    @jwz3845 2 роки тому

    The problem on this laptop is the screen, no idea why HP uses 45% NTSC screen lid for its default configuration, this mobile workstation is designed for those creators and graphics professional, 45% NTSC is not enough. Sure you can customize your screen to 400-nit or 500-nit (Dreamcolor screen) but you will need to wait for 6 months for delivery from HP. But this is still a great mobile workstation. Last but not least , this may be the last generation of HP ZBook firefly with trackpoint keyboard, from G9 there is no trackpoint anymore, which is a pity as it is very helpful that you can handle and do something on laptop with on hand and save another hand to hold the phone or something else.

    I've had a Dell XPS 13 9360 since December 2016. Just got a job in which I'll be living in Africa for 2 years, and the company sent me one of these Fireflies. Don't get me wrong, it looks like a lovely machine, but I definitely prefer my rose gold Dell and will miss it so. I would have opted out of the new computer if mine wasn't older and thus liable to start degenerating anytime (and in a less developed country, which adds layers of inconvenience), but she's been a wonderful laptop from my senior year of high school to months after college.

    Why do brands keep adding physical buttons on trackpad when Dell, Razer and even HP themselves have made laptops without buttons, but an all-area-click glass trackpad.
    Other than that, this seems like a great machine love the Macbook Pro 2015 style IO. Would loved to have seen a full size SD card reader, but of all the compromises, that one I can live without.
