  • HP's ZBook is very nice and if you're looking for a Mobile Workstation, this Firefly G8 is a 15" all metal 3.8lb solution that's designed around mobility first.
    If you're looking for more power, the ZBook Fury is the one to look at in my opinion.

    HP had been nailing it over the past couple of years imo!! 👍🏻
    Just wish they were as good when I bought my Envy back in '14.

    Laptops like that are for very specific people that probably don't watch UA-cam reviews, but it's nice to see laptops other than the usual gaming laptops. Asus should really borrow this camera system!
    Also, congratz on 50k!

    Thanks for the review! I had my eyes set on the Dell XPS 17 but started to doubt after reading complaints about Dell's lack of quality control. Problems with the trackpad, battery draining on high-performance to name a view. You cannot go wrong with HP, their attention to detail is second to none and this review re-affirmed that for me.

    I had the older Firefly G7 with an i7-10810U . Be careful with choosing the display options, the 1000nits with Sureview privacy screen is bright but the colours are not great compare to screens with no privacy screen built-in. And never ever opt for the 250nits display. It is shittiest around, even in a well-lit office, it still feels dim, especially when I put it side by side against the Elitebook 840 series . The 400 nits option is the best display of the bunch. 4k display is great but the battery drains much faster. As you said, the keyboard is excellent, I even prefer this over the mechanical keyboards that are on many TongFang chassis gaming notebooks. If you don't need that Nvidia T500 GPU, you can opt out of it and save few hundred bucks, get better thermals and battery life.

    Good stuff! Great review!
    LG Gram 17 is the only "light weight" I would consider given that great/apex screen.
    My workflow is mostly remoting into my beefier machines (save the recent asus duo 15 se I got and is in RMA -.-)

    This kind of HP build laptop quality stamped aluminum with a 5900hs and 3060 could compete with Asus Zephyrus g14/g15 line if they took this chasis and made a slim gaming line other wise right now its a very sleek laptop for non gamers to get everyday work done on the go that doesn't want or need a mac. Hey I mean its got thunderbolt if you wanna get your serious game on. Nice video Bob I wanna see HP do a gaming answer to the Asus G14/15 line with this type of build quality.

    I've had one since it came out in August 2020. You will get 4/5 use out of the battery. Chrome as usual will eat it out. Mine has touch screen. They should have made it bend all the way over as I don't see a lot of use for it. The fans will come on and heat increases when plugged in fir charging

    but, can it still be used for gamig? I need a laptop for study, business and meetings. A strong and powerfull laptop is definetly what I need but in my spare time it would be great if I can play some games on it. like GTA 5 or what so ever.

    I was also looking into this as I want a laptop with thunderbolt, high end cpu, but low power gpu as I'd rather go for a egpu setup.
    Also the sure view 1000nit display is a privacy filter that ends up being generally much lower brightness and poor everyday usability as there's no way to remove the filter entirely. The toggle for it just goes from like low/medium to high instead off.

    I can't really understand why are the providing this laptop with USB-C power adapter that you stick in the middle of the laptop. If you are right handed then it blocks your mouse. There should be a left hand side port for that in my opinion. Otherwise it's a nice workstation.

    God that bezel though. It's like yeah it's lightweight and I like numpads but I honestly thought that was a 17" compared to my g15. As a business user, I'd never buy that, it just misses on too many things.

    Im using this as my current workhorse and damn the cooling solution and chassis are BAD! The device runs hot and when you close the lid, the screen covers the top intake / exhaust, not quite sure which way it works but laptop has frozen many, many times and needs a reboot while running hot as hell. Horrible solution.

    • @BobOfAllTrades
      @BobOfAllTrades  3 роки тому +1

      Oh wow interesting! So as a docking station it’s not ideal. I know when the lid is closed there was a small gap for it to breathe I don’t know if that will cause an issue or not. I don’t have an external monitor to test those things but it looks like there would be enough room for it to breathe considering it was low wattage parts.
      What spec and model do you have? Or is it this exact one?

  • @steamline432

    "quatro's more for precision" lmao as if geforce is less precise. They're made for different kinds of calculations: geforce for the calculations involved in rendering, espicially rtx and shaders and the sort of thing's you'd find in games, and quatro for various other gpu tasks (such as machine learning)

    • @BobOfAllTrades
      @BobOfAllTrades  3 роки тому +1

      I thought so too especially around the front edge but upon further investigation the chassis is so thin and narrow that they had to move the battery back the way they did in order to maintain that sleek center aesthetic.

    You also have case defect around F2-F5 keys ? Please look this video(HP Zbook firefly G8 - factory case deffect) ?
    In the area of the keys F2-F5 - the case sticks out. In the area of F9-F10 - is a small kink. And you can see that the keyboard is bent (wave).

    • @TheAnonyy
      @TheAnonyy 3 роки тому

      Couldn't post on your video as you turned off. I don't really see the defect on your chassis?
      I had a problem with the screen it had a yellow halo at the top of the screen to see it you need to turn off the room lights (sit in the dark) and boot the laptop to see it. It was hideous this was fresh from the factory so I got it replaced. The same issue was prevalent but not as bad so I kept it. There is a problem with it when it turns on the fans and if you are not there to move the laptop to a position where the fan holes are not blocked or limited air flow it can damage the mouse its done this already I got the part replaced but I think there still an issue in its design. Its nice e looking laptop I like the fingerprint access and that it's encrypted. The camera is average in good light but very grainy in poor light night time is impossible.
