  • Pituamkek, known in English as “Hog Island and the Sandhills”, is home to Prince Edward Island’s last wild coastal landscapes. It is also rich in Mi’kmaw history, culture, and is home to an ongoing land-use tradition.
This film brings alive the nature, landscapes and deep Mi’kmaw history and culture of the area, and profiles Indigenous-led conservation initiatives underway there.
This sacred stretch of Islands and Sandhills has been home to Mi’kmaq people for thousands of years, and efforts are now underway to preserve and protect these precious lands and waters to ensure their survival for the Mi’kmaq and for all generations to come.
Credits are found at the end of this film. Wela'lin - thank you, to all who contributed and participated in its making.

I am proud of my Mi kmaq heritage. My 10xGGRandfather was Grand Chief Henri Membertou. Thank you for a most beautiful video. I feel the love.

As an islander I think this is a great idea. The Mi'kmaq have a beautiful past and all islanders should learn of their history. I was lucky as a kid to visit Lennox island and learn about their stories. Always cherished it abd will forever be with me.

As a PEI and Atlantic Canada based Producer/Director/Cinematographer for Square Deal Productions and Editor of Pituamkek I am incredibly proud of the great work of our crew, drone operator, and the wonderful heartfelt interviews given by our cast. What a truly unique and precious area Pituamkek is and it's fantastic our combined efforts and creative talents to make this film helped realize the dream of seeing this area preserved as a pristine Mi'kmaq heritage landscape forever more! Released in 2021, the film has been celebrated by 10 prestigious international film festivals, and was twice Nominated for Best Short Documentary. Enjoy!

Elderberries, which we used to enjoy & pick freely now Cost $9.99 for a 20z Container. I only hope my friend Dave Champlin keeps up the good fight. I never got sick when I was a child, but mother nature provided us some of the best medicines...

I’ve always wondered if PEI had any Fluent Mi’kmaq speakers left! How many does PEI have left?

Believe it or not, there were river muscles. We didn't sell them to the Asians because the river was so polluted like that. 🤔

New Brunswick over here, We used to dig clams and we eat them, though my Gram would tell me to just boil them for double the time.
