Hi, Luke. I sent you a request-comment to react to *Gundam SEED* OPs & EDs complete with linx of them but it kept getting erased by you-know-who. It's annoying coz those linx are hard to find and I want to show it to you.
This anime is from 2006, Monoral is a Japanese alt rock band. I went into this blind. It’s my hidden gem & actually bought the Blu-ray. It’s definitely a very dark, messed up, philosophically deep, mind bending anime. It’s been said that they modeled the MC after Evanescence’s Amy Lee. Definitely not to everyone’s liking. A great cerebral, niche anime, imo.
Yeah, Studio Mangalobe were absolutely they made Deadman Wonderland, Gangsta and more, all of them have banger openings, but i was very sad when the studio shutdown due to bankruptcy in 2015.
I had the best discussions about this show as it was airing in Japan on 4chan(I know, I know! don't judge me!). I had to download the crappiest subtitles for the episodes because only a hand full of sub groups were translating this as it was coming out. Good times!
I'd agree, although... Cowboy Bebop is easy to appreciate. "Cazus" will like it even if they don't understand it. Ergo Proxy and Serial Experiments Lain? Man, that's another kind of cake. It's actually more like a super spicy dish, or a very unique preparation like French snails. It's GREAT. But you will have a terrible experience if you simply grab it and taste, and it turns out you weren't in the mood to discover a new world.
Ergo Proxy is absolutely a text book example of a hidden gem. It’s a post-apocalyptic sci-fi series with a strong mystery element and some wonderfully mind-bending moments scattered throughout. Has, in my opinion, some of the best atmosphere in anime. Absolutely worth a watch imo. And since you’ve asked, another example of a hidden gem that immediately comes to my mind is Revolutionary Girl Utena. It’s older and quite different from Ergo Proxy in terms of tone and style, but also has this mind-bending arthouse element to it.
@@GOTGames and the best episode ever "Busy doing Nothing". Could you ask me what happened in this episode? Well, nothing. They are doing absolutely nothing, and it is AMAZING!
Oh my god, I tried for so long recommending this songs I almost given up. Thank you, Luke and thank you guys that kept recommending this op&ed. Please, Serial Experiment Lain OP next. I think you will love it. 💜
You know you're old when you're watching people on the internet react to an anime you watched as an adult, then you realise, you remember when they invented the internet...
My recommended list of anime opening themes for you! Five down, more to go! _Gunslinger Girl_ - "The Light before we Land" _Serial Experiments Lain_ - "Duvet" _-Elfen Lied-_- - "Lilium"- _-Fullmetal Alchemist-_- (2003) - Opening 4 "REWRITE"- _Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex_ - Opening 1 "Inner Universe" _Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex_ - Opening 2 "Rise" _Witch Hunter Robin_ - "Shell" _Nana_ - "Rose" _Samurai Champloo_ - "Battlecry" _-Rainbow-_- - "We're Not Alone"- _-Highschool of the Dead-_- - "Highschool of the Dead"- _FLCL_ - "Ride On Shooting Star" _-Deadman Wonderland-_- - "One Reason"- _Zoku Sayonara Zetsubou-sensei_ - Opening 2 "Kuusou Rumba" _Mezzo DSA_ - "Suki Mami Mai Tai" _Michiko & Hatchin_ - "Paraiso" _Texhnolyze_ - "Guardian Angel" _The Tatami Galaxy_ - "Maigo Inu to Ame no Beat" _Cromartie High School_ - "Jun" _Trigun_ - "H.T." _Chobits_ - "Let Me Be With You"
Garden of Sinner, Kara no Kyoukai, which incidentally also takes place in the Fate universe...kind of, as in Fate/Zero etc, has some great songs. It's an anime series that is made of 10 movies, yes movies not episodes, and every movie has a full-length 4 to 5 min song by Kalafina. Of those 10 songs, I would recommend. Oblivious by Kalafina And Aria by Kalafina
Ergo proxy and Witch hunter Robin(check out the opening and endings of WHR by the way!) as sister series made by the same creative minds are by far some of my absolute favorite anime of the 2000s. Dark, mature, down to earth, ultra gothic with gripping narratives and endings that are begging for contiuations somehow 😔 my nostalgia is just going crazy. These types of anime along with stuff like technolyze, lain and others are just no longer found in the modern anime landscape. Just overflowing with with creative sentiment. ..i think im gonna go rewatch both of them now
It's so annoying that this never go a s2. How do u leave it on that cliffhanger? I wish a studio would pick it up and remake the anime, or at the very least, give it a s2.
WHR was a solid watch. I don't recall Ergo Proxy being notable aside from the production quality; what I remember is a strong start that lost pace midway through.
@@OmniscientlyMe "strong start that lost pace midawy through" interesting that you say that considering that the majority of people who have seen it say the exact opposite, a slow start with a better second half. ua-cam.com/video/7DDR7YvfWTM/v-deo.htmlsi=E4E5fBSDE2ByDx6J this is the link to a video summary and philosophical analysis of the anime. If you don't want to click the link, the video is called "The Most Philosophical Anime Ever Made?" by Max Derrat
My hidden gem anime is Legend of the Galactic Heroes It's not a hidden gem anime, as it was exceptionally popular when the original released. But it has been forgotten to time. Same with Spice and Wolf, Ergo Proxy, Serial Experiments Lain etc. Both the original and the remake (controversial to the fanbase, but I prefer the newer one as the animation is more modern, and the story is more faithful). It's considered one of the best anime ever made. Has a source material that is a full blown Novel series (instead of manga or Light Novels). Due to this, the story is incredibly detailed, and is a Space Opera on par with any of the big ones (Star Wars, Star Trek, Dune, Disc World, Warhammer 40k etc.) As for Ergo Proxy. Had to watch the anime 3 times to finally get it. Definitely not advisable if you want an easy, or even normal watch lmao. I mean, I did watch it at launch when I was younger, so maybe it'd be an easier watch now that I'm older Also, the Ergo Proxy op isn't a hidden gem. The anime was massive when it aired, and the opening was, at the time, just as big as, say, Unravel (the Tokyo Ghoul op 1)
@G.O.T Games Anime openings I recommend 1. ) Rahxephon 2.) Eden Of The East 3.) Wolf's Rain 4.) Bokurano 5.) Gunslinger Girl 6.) Monster 7.) Texhnolyze 8.) Witch Hunter Robin 9.) Zankyou No Terror 10.) Key The Metal Idol 11.) Pet 12.) ID Invaded 13.) Boogiepop Phantom both openings 14.) InuxBoku 15.) Inuyashiki 16.) Casshern Sins 18.) Phantom of the Requiem 19.) Acca 13 20.) Darker Than Black 21.) Megalo Box 23.) Hajime No Ippo 24.) Ghost in The Shell Stand Alone Complex opening 2 25 .) Iria Zeiram The animation opening 26.) Gundam Unicorn 27.) Gundam 00 28.) Gundam Wing 29.) Gundam The Origin 30.) Zeta Gundam 31.) Mushi-shi 32.) Bubble Gum Crisis 33.) March Comes In Like a Lion 34.) Eureaka 7
Ergo proxy just because you asked...is just godlike imo. You have to really pay attention to put all the pieces together but its so worth it. Id rather not spoil the plot or the characters if you ever end up watching it. That's part of the greatness 👍
@@anonisnoone6125 I think S1 ending was perfectly executed as it give a hope in that bleak world. The metaphor of sailing toward a clear sky is all you need. So if they did a second one, it might not as good as they answered the full human condition for you - which isn't needed.
So glad to see another person reacting to anything ergo proxy related, i found this anime back in like 2014/15 when i was looking for "cool but underrated or unknown anime to watch on Google" because i wanted to be the one to recomend something cool to my usually "anime recomending" otaku bff, what i found was a mind bending futuristic noir like cyber punkish psychological anime that took me years to understand fully, after that i bought the DVDs from some dude on ebay and never looked back, i watch it maybe once every two years or so, its a weird "open your mind to think" kinda anime, definetly not for everyone who is expecting "¡action! and !bang bang! !blood¡" anime like the modern animes of the last few years, this one leans more into the "big brain" aspect than the visual action. There is action, but not every episode.
A cool thing with the two members of Monoral is that the lead singer/guitarist was born in England to a Moroccan-French mother and Japanese father and the bassist/keyboardist was born and raised in Japan to an Iranian-American father and a Ryukyuan mother. If you want some more hidden gems, try Princess Principal (2 OPs) - Steampunk spy anime set in a London split in two by civil war, or for something more recent, the OP of Hoshikuzu Telepath (Stardust Telepath) - my favourite OP of last season!
Well, the ending parts of Ergo Proxy was so confusing that I had to watch it multiple times. I didn't get it wholly after all anyway. By the way, Radiohead's full version of the song "Paranoid Android" is mind-blowing to me. I actually became a huge fan of Radiohead bcz of this anime. In terms of hidden gems, I think Texhnolyze is worth checking out. It is made by the Lain's team and maybe more confusing than Ergo Proxy.
Ergo Proxy is a Cyberpunk, Post-apocalyptic, Psychological thriller. I own the Box Set and I bought it because of Re-L on the cover. It dark with Gnostic themes. If you like Gothic, you'll like the style. It also reminded me of Witch Hunter Robin and Serial Experiments Lain. Small Spoiler Don't get attached to most characters or cities.
Yay, Ergo Proxy! Such a great series. One of my all-time favorites. Suggestions (with UA-cam ID listed, since links tend to get erased): Serial Experiments Lain (OP: MM8RufZr5lw, ED: PmOSXIn3Jxk) Rideback (OP: hU1rTET0n5c, ED: 7GKFjtRtIgs) Paranoia Agent (OP: QEsNDDwhSJ4) Shinsekai Yori (ED: mz1ypuGJ3VM) Haibane Renmei (OP: ztSVbXekz0Y, ED: VJPYLl8i4GE)
The Ergo Proxy opening always reminded me of Kings and Queens by 30 seconds to Mars for some reason. Also you should definitely check out the OP and ED of Kyoukai no Kanata, they're both absolute gems.
hmm, one of those few animes with english/western style OP & ED! I think in today's awareness, Nanoha OPs and movie EDs and Macross Frontier's OPs and EDs could be considered hidden gems! Anyone else have any good impression of any the songs in my list below? (i will be adding more as I recall them) Here's my list: 1. Macross Frontier ED & OP (esp the EDs like Diamond Crevasse & Northern Cross are a MUST! and their longer forms!) 2. Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha (with 5 series and 4 movies; OPs sung by that era's anisong queen) 3. Shakugan no Shana (since u have watched Toaru OPs, they have some some similar singers) 4. Vandread (fire 90s retro songs) 5. Godannar (fun song) 6. Maburaho (magical dude) 7. Zero no Tsukaima (one of the older isekais) 8. Symphogear (Fire!! So many songs!) 9. Dual! Parallel Trouble Adventure (bootleg evangelion?) 10. Fafner 11. Asura Cryin' 12. Valvrave 13. Digimon Adventure (series 1-3) 14. Nagi no Asukara 15. Horizon in the middle of Nowhere 16. I watched Ergo Proxy when I was younger and a bit newer to mature anime at the time, and it rocked my world. Would be amazing to see you experience it, and it's 100% worth it!
Just gonna drop a list of stuff I've been suggesting before, that haven't made the cut yet: - all Detective Conan Openings - a reaction to the full version of the opening for Liar Liar, "Lies goes on" by May'n - all Ranma 1/2 openings - all Japanese Digimon Openings
You finally reacted to this opening and I´m so glad you liked it!!!!! Honestly I always recommend this song (including in your channel) because it is sooooo good!!!! Like doesn´t matter how much times passes, this song will always hit you in the guts. Definitely one of the best anime song openings out there. Ergo Proxy anime is definitely a hit or miss, it´s very dark and heavily philosophical, not to everyone's liking. I think i´m the only one of my friends who actually did, for the others was either too confusing or dense. I read in a comment someone recommending you Witch Hunter Robin´s opening, and you should!!! The opening is so good as well and the anime was done by the same studio that did Ergo Proxy, it´s a shame they went bankruptcy. I would also like to recommend Trinity Blood´s opening. It has a kind of angsty sad tone to it, that i find sometimes unique. This vampire light novel/manga/anime is lightly based on Slavic mythology, with some hints of christian religion.
This opening was my first recommendation on this channel and the only one I repeated several times. The anime itself is quite dark, but not too heartbreaking. It's a post-apocalyptic cyberpunk set in a world you know little about, but you can guess a lot about it if you pay attention. And yes, I consider it a hidden gem.
The op is wonderful. Very 90s...reminds me of a song that could easily be fit amongst The Crow soundtrack. "Paranoid Android" was my first Radiohead song I caught back on MTV in 1997. It's its own experience all together. Especially the music video. Up there with "Talk show host" and "Exit song for a film".
I've come across so many "hidden gems" im not even sure what I can call my favorite but a good place to start is-Eden of the East, Noir, Blood+, Rahxephon, Haibane Renmei. Those would also be my requests lol
I'm one of the people who recommended Ergo Proxy before so I'm glad its finally here :). If we are talking about hidden anime gems or hidden anime OP gems... I might bump my recommendation for: - both OPs of Knights Of Sidonia (jp. Sidonia No Kishi). reminds me a lot of Attack on Titan OPs. - Princess Principal, that one is a certified banger (anime about spies)
Gotta check out Serial Experiments: Lain if you are cheking out Ergo Proxy. Also, Witch Hunter Robin is also a really great anime from this same general time period, with a killer soundtrack. Oh, and Hidden Gem anime: RahXephon. It has a lot of Neon Genesis Evangelion kind of vibes, but with a main character you don't want to constantly shake some sense into.
MY hidden gem would be Wolf's Rain, 30 episodes that aired in the late 90s or early 2 000. (roughly the same than Ergo Proxy I believe) It's so freaking great and I can't believe no one knows it that much after 25 years ! OST is composed by Yoko Kanno, the litteral anime-music goddess of that era. OP is : Stray - Steve Conte. ED is : Gravity - Maaya Sakamoto (2 great singers that were everywhere in the anime music industry during that time)
If you want something that is both light-hearted and super emotional, I highly recommend watching “Your Lie in April.” It’s an emotional rollercoaster and I’d be interested to see how you enjoy it since it’s different than anything you’ve watched so far. Slice of life style but with super important and raw emotional storytelling.
I still want to recommend the Japanese OPs for Yugioh Duel Monsters, Beyblade, and Digimon. Add to that are Inuyasha (both the OPs and EDs) and Ranma 1/2. The Law of Ueki's OPs and EDs are pretty good, too. YuYu Hakusho OP and EDs are awesome as well. I would also like to suggest listening to the OPs/EDs of old versions of series. Like Fruits Basket and Hunter x Hunter which now have great remakes had pretty good OPs and EDs in the original adaptations of their series. The anime series I don't think many people would recommend that I actually love are Gakuen Alice (the only anime which made me actually buy the manga just to see more of it) and Tales of the Abyss (yes, the original game is better but the anime wasn't super bad as I think it was at least able to tell the story properly).
Finally you reacted to this masterpiece. One of my favorite anime and very underrated. As a lover of Sci fi like blade runner and ghost in the shell this was right up my alley
Great list of hidden gems. My personal pick is March Comes in Like a Lion, but I think that all of the others are criminally under watched as well, especially Rainbow.
Bought the Blu-Ray back when i was first getting really deep into anime outside of the Toonami classics. Starts of as a post-apocalyptic mystery thriller and then transitions into an absolutely mind bending supernatural adventure of world ending magnitudes. It has a lot of existential concepts that many different characters confront and is a good example of an Anime where i cant think of a single poorly written character. Plot is just chefs kiss but Im not gonna spoil it. Definitely a watch youll enjoy from everything else youve enjoyed. Oh, and as a parting shot the fight scenes are super good too, animation is so crisp and clean. Just...im gonna stop now, or i wont stop lmao. Just watch, its good, trust XD
@G.O.T Games Ergo Proxy is a very good Anime in my opinion. I recommend giving it a chance. It's not everyone's cup of tea but it is well made with alot of thought and care put into the show. The English dub is actually pretty good. I usually like the sub 99% of time more than the dub. But with Ergo Proxy this is one of the few Anime I watch in dub, because it sounds that good. Which is shocking since sub usually sounds better than dub in my opinion. Sub sounds natural and dosen't have the awkwardness dubs do.
My hidden gem is definitely “ Rin daughters of Mnemosyne” both opening and ending are in my opinion the best Japanese metal out there shame that it’s a forgotten anime
My hidden gem is Kabaneri of the Iron Fortress. Hiroyuki Sawano and the Attack on Titan team but everyone calls it mid because they compare it directly to AoT... It always gets lost.
I'll leave my recommendations here, maybe it'll catch attention. The list just getting more and more new entries as I remember/encounter them. I'd love to see your reaction to them in the future. I'll try to categorize them for better comprehension. *Endings* Endings from anime Full Moon wo Sagashite by Myco from Changin' My Life group: #1 New Future #2 Myself #3 Eternal Snow #4 Love Chronicle Love her deep voice Endings from anime Gosick by Lisa Komine: #1 Resuscitated Hope #2 Unity Both very melancholic in their own way, can't even say which is my favorite Ending from anime Gotoubun no Hanayome or Quintessential quintuplets (EN title) by Aya Uchida #1 Sign The show also have good ops but my favorite song is Sign and by a lot. Endings from Japanese Drama Akagi by Shonan no Kaze group: #1 Don't be Afraid #2 Kokushi Musou Amazing EDs for a Drama about Mahjong game. *Openings* Openings from anime Welcome to the Ballroom by UNISON SQUARE GARDEN group: #1 10% Roll, 10% Romance #2 Invisible Sensation Openings for a show about ballroom dancing is unironically fire Opening from anime Watashi ga Motenai no wa Dou Kangaete mo Omaera ga Warui by Konomi Suzuki and Kiba of Akiba #1 Title is the same as anime title Sick rock song. Btw try to guess what anime is about cuz unironically this OP is perfect for representing the life of main heroine of this show. *Original soundtracks* OSTs and 1 ending "Fallen Angel feat. Aimee B" from anime Panty & Stocking with Garterbelt: #1 Fly Away #2 Theme for Scanty & Knee socks #3 Chocolat feat. Mariya Ise #4 D City Rock #5 Technodildo #6 Beverly Hills Cock The most unique OSTs in all amine in my experience in this show. Don't get bewildered by their names they're all fire. OSTs from anime Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicles by Yuki Kajiura. I'll write my favorite few: #1 a song of storm and fire #2 strange games #3 ship of fools #4 ruthless #5 witch #6 I talk to the rain It's Yuki Kajiura, what else need to be said? OSTs from anime Kill la Kill. These two are one of the most hype treks that I heard, though context of the anime boosts them even more #1 Before my body is dry #2 Blumenkranz First one for the main protagonist, second one for the main antagonist. OSTs from a visual novel Fate Hollow Ataraxia by Aimer: #1 holLow wORlD #2 broKen NIGHT It's Aimer, you know it's gonna be great. OST from a hentai visual novel Euphhoria (just to be clear) by Ringo Aoba: #1 Rakuen no tobira or Door to Paradise (english title) No judging where the song was used, I like it a lot. Piano + Violin is god combo. Just need to be careful when looking for it, no need to watch the song with visuals cuz they're pretty intense even censored.
I think I would call it more a "hidden in plain sight" gem but March Comes in Like a Lion is easily the most under watched show I can think of. For a truly hidden gem, I would say Girls Last Tour. Despite the fact that it won best slice of life in the year it came out, I don't think many people actually watched it, and it certainly isn't talked about nearly enough. I know that slice of life typically doesn't interest people, but Girls Last Tour is easily the darkest slice of life anime I have ever seen, and one of the darkest shows/manga of any genre. I don't want to spoil anything, so I will just say that if cute girls doing apocalypse adventure things with light philosophy and a healthy dose of nihilism sounds interesting at all, I highly recommend checking it out. Plus the op/ed are absolute bangers.
Oh my Gosh, FINALLY! Oh I hope this starts a kick of early to mid 2000s serious anime openings. Gunslinger Girl and Witch Hunter Robin and Serial Experiments Lain's (Though that one is late 90s) openings are even closer, I can feel it!
"Eureka 7" was my favourite anime. I don't know if it good now, but you can at least watch openings. Another hiden gem (everyone who watched it said it is good) is "Blassreiter".
Not sure if it's considered a hidden gem by other people, but Zetsuen no Tempest is an AWESOME magic/action/mystery anime that makes references to Hamlet a lot. Also the openings slap.
Love it. It makes you in a mood. Not over-dramatically but in some weird melancholy mood. I don' really remember what it was about but I really remember how i made me feel
Yeah we already know what underrated anime op you suggest, drifters cough... lol, I know another underrated series that's been missed like drifters and that would actually be Killing Bites OP and ED especially ED more sus sound than OP lol, both good. Everyone keeps mentioning Lain for a good reason, manglobe gave good songs to these shows and specialized in psychological anime, Ergo being most in all of anime. Some gotta watch many times cause so many ways of looking at things.
As for a hidden gem, I'd suggest "Smile Down the runway (Runway de Waratte)" my favourite anime from 2020 with just over 50k MAL users which has decent OP and ED But in terms of songs I'd recommend "Children of the Whales (Kujira no Kora wa Sajou ni Utau)" which has great music overall (OP, ED & Aima's song)
You should do Eden of The East opening and ending. It's a super underrated series I don't hear anyone talk about. The best part though... they use freaking Oasis in the opening.
My hidden gem would be Noir. I rarely see people talking about it, but man - that anime is such a vibe. And with the soudtrack being from Yuki Kajiura, you know it's full of bangers.
I don't know if I was dumb at that time but when I watched this show.... I knew this is a great anime but I didn't understood many parts of it..... it was too complex or maybe just it was written in a way or whatever. But keeping that aside this anime had some great philosophies which make you really think about your morals & reasonings. Another show which is similar to having the dark undertone will be "Psycho-pass" although I like the 1st season the most.
@priyambadabejl... I recommend watching RogerSmith2004's videos on Ergo Proxy. He deep dives into the series and explains what most things mean in Ergo Proxy and why certain events happen as they do. It's one of the most comprehensive videos of Ergo Proxy in my opinion.
The OP to Ergo Proxy is from a time in Anime history in which it was cool to have foreign musicians doing the songs, something that, sadly, isn't a usual practice anymore. It was common between the late 90s and mid 2000s, I'd say, at a time in which Type A animes (based on good story, interesting character relationships, as opposed to Type B animes, which are basically the gaff you get nowadays, that is, harem, isekai, cute girls doing silly things, clueless main male protagonists who need a blood transfusion every day 5 times because they just can't stop seeing panties, etc., that is, the golden era of GOOD anime) were king. I remember an early occasion for these kinds of animes with western music to be Serial Experiments Lain (YOU NEED to react to it, it's a damn classic from one of the best anime shows EVER), and I recall others like Witch Hunter Robin, Wolf's Rain, Hellsing, and the themes in Russian for Ghost In The Shell: Stand Alone Complex (seasons 1 and 2, by the late Origa). Seriously, if you're looking for something that's anime-related but DIFFERENT to what you're used to listening to nowadays, give the op/end themes for these now classic animes a good listen, Luke. Cheers!
As I recall, a lot of them had different OP/ED in each region at the time. A good chunk of the Toonami shows were like that. Also, I think you don't realize how much the lack of localization in general filtered out the bad anime of 20+ years ago, whereas pretty much everything makes it over now.
Hidden gem anime... herm... that is subjective based on when you started and how old you are. Like no one talks about the fiest Berserk anime or Black Lagoon or Monster or first Trigun. All of these being top tier once upon a time. Ohhhh! I got it! School Rumble in English. Trust me the dub kills it at getting the tone and jokes in. GTO is a great hidden gem and maybe Kenichi the Strongest Disciple and Tengu Tenge i think is what it was called. Tengu Tenge much like Claymore have flashbacks with more interest characters than the main cast which gives a strange vibe.
hahaha wow incredible coincidence just yesterday I was rewatching one of your videos in which you react to deadman wordenland's op and I just saw my comment recommending this op, because it is very good and very few people as well as Spanish or English speakers have reacted to it
I've only been able to watch the first 1/2 of this anime back when Netflix did mail order dvd rentals but never got to finish it because discs 4 and 5 were always "unavailable". What I did watch of it was great . There are a ton from the late 80's to early 2000's that are amazing but are never/rarely talked about today. I've long since forgotten the openings but some older anime series that I loved and hear almost nothing about nowadays are "Iria: Zeiram the Animation", "Visions of Escaflowne", "Record of Lodoss War", "Now and Then, Here and There", "Blue Sub No.6", "Armitage III" and "Crest of the Star". I could keep going but then we'd be here all day.
Yea, it's a masterpiece. Hard to follow and understand but if you put enough effort you'll be rewarded. Sooooo, when are you watching the full version of Itterasshai and To You 2000 Years.... or 20000 Years from now? Because, You know, they're perfect.

When I first found this anime it literally only caught my eye because she looked like amy lee from the fallen album cover😭
@@venator-classstardestroyer5826 There are YT videos that show a side by side comparison, It’s so mind blowing.
Yeah, Studio Mangalobe were absolutely they made Deadman Wonderland, Gangsta and more, all of them have banger openings, but i was very sad when the studio shutdown due to bankruptcy in 2015.
@@Archaoen0 That’s so sad to hear about that. 😞😭
I had the best discussions about this show as it was airing in Japan on 4chan(I know, I know! don't judge me!). I had to download the crappiest subtitles for the episodes because only a hand full of sub groups were translating this as it was coming out. Good times!
Ergo Proxy is up there with Cowboy Bebop and Serial Experiments Lain. It's just GOOD
Holy Trinity!!
🤔🤔
Oooo okay! I'm so curious about this anime now 🤔
@@GOTGames and the best episode ever "Busy doing Nothing". Could you ask me what happened in this episode? Well, nothing. They are doing absolutely nothing, and it is AMAZING!
Mushishi is my hidden gem, I really don't hear enough people talking about it. Also really like the opening.
Ye, coziest thing i ever watch. Starting with opening
Yes!
Oh my god, I tried for so long recommending this songs I almost given up. Thank you, Luke and thank you guys that kept recommending this op&ed. Please, Serial Experiment Lain OP next. I think you will love it. 💜
Don't worry! All recommendations get in a video eventually!! 💯
You know you're old when you start crying at certain songs because they're so nostalgic to you :')
You know you're old when you're watching people on the internet react to an anime you watched as an adult, then you realise, you remember when they invented the internet...
This is a good anime, great soundtrack too. It's heavily based on Western literature, such as Descartes and his phrase Cogito Ergo Sum.

Oblivious by Kalafina
And
Aria by Kalafina
Ergo proxy and Witch hunter Robin(check out the opening and endings of WHR by the way!) as sister series made by the same creative minds are by far some of my absolute favorite anime of the 2000s.
Dark, mature, down to earth, ultra gothic with gripping narratives and endings that are begging for contiuations somehow 😔 my nostalgia is just going crazy.
These types of anime along with stuff like technolyze, lain and others are just no longer found in the modern anime landscape. Just overflowing with with creative sentiment.
..i think im gonna go rewatch both of them now
I don't remember much about ergo proxy, but I do remember witch hunter robin. That anime had a banger of an intro song as well! 👍
It's so annoying that this never go a s2. How do u leave it on that cliffhanger? I wish a studio would pick it up and remake the anime, or at the very least, give it a s2.
And Wolfs Rain!
Ergo Proxy is fantastic. One of my all time favorite!
My hidden gem anime is Legend of the Galactic Heroes
It's not a hidden gem anime, as it was exceptionally popular when the original released.
Due to this, the story is incredibly detailed, and is a Space Opera on par with any of the big ones (Star Wars, Star Trek, Dune, Disc World, Warhammer 40k etc.)
As for Ergo Proxy. Had to watch the anime 3 times to finally get it. Definitely not advisable if you want an easy, or even normal watch lmao. I mean, I did watch it at launch when I was younger, so maybe it'd be an easier watch now that I'm older
Also, the Ergo Proxy op isn't a hidden gem. The anime was massive when it aired, and the opening was, at the time, just as big as, say, Unravel (the Tokyo Ghoul op 1)
The most philosophical anime to air

Ergo proxy just because you asked...is just godlike imo. You have to really pay attention to put all the pieces together but its so worth it. Id rather not spoil the plot or the characters if you ever end up watching it. That's part of the greatness 👍
It deserved a s2. I can't believe they just abandoned it.
@@anonisnoone6125
I think S1 ending was perfectly executed as it give a hope in that bleak world. The metaphor of sailing toward a clear sky is all you need. So if they did a second one, it might not as good as they answered the full human condition for you - which isn't needed.
@@anonisnoone6125 not everything deserves a second season sometimes one is just fine

As a Moroccan, I'm proud to see my country mentioned 😂
The amount of culture in one band 🤯
Small Spoiler
Don't get attached to most characters or cities.
Yay, Ergo Proxy! Such a great series. One of my all-time favorites.

Check out Higashi no Eden (Eden of the East) opening, it was sung by Oasis!
Just gonna drop a list of stuff I've been suggesting before, that haven't made the cut yet:
- all Detective Conan Openings
- a reaction to the full version of the opening for Liar Liar, "Lies goes on" by May'n
- all Ranma 1/2 openings
- all Japanese Digimon Openings
Great list!
This anime is absolute masterpiece. It leaves you speechless and empty at the end.
Ergo Proxy is excellent. Great story and characters. Hard to say more without spoiling lol
Everyone seems to say that 😂 just makes me curious
Eden of the East definitely goated
@@nexstbob6911 yeah, its an awesome show
Haven't watch Eden of the East yet but the others are all great. Great recommendations.
@@jonathangebert3006 you should watch it sometime, its quite good and the movies were a perfect finale to it
I cannot believe someone else in this world knows Haibane Renmei.
That anime destroyed me by the end of it...
The singer is the same of the opening "Stray" of the series "wolfs rain" a work that was not appreciated at the time.
My hidden gem is Honey And Clover, because is one of the most beautiful things that you can see in anime...and the openings and endings are also good
Don't know about calling it a "hidden gem" but one Anime I never see anyone talking about that I absolutely loved was Tomodachi Game
Yeah tomodachi game was a pretty fun watch
Will have to check it out too 💯
I'm starting to become obsessed with this channel! Also yes ergo proxy is great hidden gem.
I'm one of the people who recommended Ergo Proxy before so I'm glad its finally here :). If we are talking about hidden anime gems or hidden anime OP gems... I might bump my recommendation for:
- both OPs of Knights Of Sidonia (jp. Sidonia No Kishi). reminds me a lot of Attack on Titan OPs.
- Princess Principal, that one is a certified banger (anime about spies)
Ergo Proxy one of the best animes about post apocalypse world.
Serial Experiments Lain's opening has similar vibes too. It's also a short sci-fi mystery, like Ergo Proxy 🔥
Do i really need to talk again about the ATMOSPHERE of this masterpiece ?
Gotta check out Serial Experiments: Lain if you are cheking out Ergo Proxy. Also, Witch Hunter Robin is also a really great anime from this same general time period, with a killer soundtrack. Oh, and Hidden Gem anime: RahXephon. It has a lot of Neon Genesis Evangelion kind of vibes, but with a main character you don't want to constantly shake some sense into.
MY hidden gem would be Wolf's Rain, 30 episodes that aired in the late 90s or early 2 000. (roughly the same than Ergo Proxy I believe)
It's so freaking great and I can't believe no one knows it that much after 25 years !
OST is composed by Yoko Kanno, the litteral anime-music goddess of that era.
OP is : Stray - Steve Conte.
ED is : Gravity - Maaya Sakamoto
(2 great singers that were everywhere in the anime music industry during that time)
Really need to check out the Serial Experiment Lain op
You can check Eureka Seven or Wolfs Rain op and ed. This series have very good songs.
I second 'Your Lie in April' and will suggest 'Anohana'. Both are very good, very emotional.
Golden Kamuy and Houseki no kuni are two of the hidden gems in my list. Hope someday you give them a opportunity
My hidden Gem is Gunslinger girl. By the way it has beautifull OST.
Finally you reacted to this masterpiece. One of my favorite anime and very underrated. As a lover of Sci fi like blade runner and ghost in the shell this was right up my alley
If you like post apocalyptic setting with mystery that will challenge your philosophical world view, then yes, you'll love it.
I only know this anime because Pewdiepie himself recommend this anime in one his video. And gawddang it's a banger
I did see this when i first started anime again and remember enjoying it back when it was new.
Ergo Proxy is a fucking MASTERPIECE
There's a few anime that had big bands do OST, Radiohead for Ergo Proxy, Oasis for Eden of the East and Mr Big for the original Hellsing
This anime is philosophical gem, pure classic, personally my favorite Cyberpunk anime with an insane direction & design.
My hidden gem anime with amazing music: Rainbow, Sangatsu no Lion, Shouwa Genroku Rakugo Shinjuu and Serial Experiments Lain. All worth reacting to.
FINALLYYYYYYYYYYY
Thank you ❤

Ergo Proxy is a very good Anime in my opinion.
Ergo proxy is def one of the greats.
Still would like to recomend a few openings bangers:
- Watamote!
- Dropkick my devil
And for the cheeky episode:
- Keijo!!!!!

No judging where the song was used, I like it a lot. Piano + Violin is god combo. Just need to be careful when looking for it, no need to watch the song with visuals cuz they're pretty intense even censored.
Yes, U2 always comes to mind when I hear this song
Now make Serial Experiments Lane UP reaction. Make it complete. ))
Hidden gem: Rideback or Stellvia
I would recommend them for openings reactions as well.
Oh, Stellvia! with angela singing the OP & EDs. Have u checked out Fafner also?
@@explorian11 Yes a long time ago, I don't remember if i finished it though.

As for a hidden gem, I'd suggest "Smile Down the runway (Runway de Waratte)" my favourite anime from 2020 with just over 50k MAL users which has decent OP and ED
But in terms of songs I'd recommend "Children of the Whales (Kujira no Kora wa Sajou ni Utau)" which has great music overall (OP, ED & Aima's song)
My hidden gem is the Jyu Oh Sei Opening. It’s has a smooth jazzy rhythm to it. Also the Towards The Terra Openings and Endings.
Ergo proxy, series lein, jin roh, and some similar are very different hidden gems in anime
A couple of hidden gems I don’t hear anyone talk about are Moribito and Canaan. Although I need to watch Canaan again to reassess.
Zankyo no Terror. My hidden gem of an anime. Love the setting, the ambience and the soundtracks.
You should do Eden of The East opening and ending. It's a super underrated series I don't hear anyone talk about.
The best part though... they use freaking Oasis in the opening.
The original op not the replacement.
They changed the song due to licensing issues and the new one just doesn't hit right. Not bad just ok. Imo.
YESSS! 🔥❤️
One of the classics!
@priyambadabejl...
OP sounds familiar probably cz its very alike as OP Smallville
btw anime is great, really nothing like i`ve seen
You mean "Tenjou Tenge"?
@@Zonvolt probably I did it all from memory and didn't look anything up. Thanks mate!
My hidden anime gems are Hinamatsuri, Fuka, Kiznaiver and Takt OP. Destiny
Fuka, Kiznaiver and Takt OP all have great openings as well.
hahaha wow incredible coincidence just yesterday I was rewatching one of your videos in which you react to deadman wordenland's op and I just saw my comment recommending this op, because it is very good and very few people as well as Spanish or English speakers have reacted to it
I've only been able to watch the first 1/2 of this anime back when Netflix did mail order dvd rentals but never got to finish it because discs 4 and 5 were always "unavailable".
@G.O.T Games
You finally watched it! I love Ergo Proxy! Such a good Anime. :'D
Casshern sins , NANA, Eureka seven, Rainbow Nisha Rokubou Shichinin
Hidden gem: Princess Tutu
And
Read or Die (R. O. D)
My favorite anime. It's deep and more adult than any other I've seen. I don't like most anime but there are some like this that are special.
I remember this anime specifically because I watched it through the Netflix DVD service. Same as Air Gear.
