+pengo242 Internal rotation. Try it yourself, put your arm in the kimura position as if it is done on you, you will notice your shoulder rotate forward. If you put your arm in the americana position your shoulder rotates backward.

There is more pressure when the arm is in line with the spine is because the shoulder rotates forward and inward into the neck.
