I heard Brownlee sing this at Lyric Opera of Chicago this afternoon. The audience was so delighted with his performance that he sang the song twice! He's is magnificent.
Brownlee is incredible. Florez is incredible. There is room at the top for many great singers. So happy to see a new generation of young tenors emerging.
I saw him sing this at the Met in January 2012. Outstanding! (I also love the look on the Pianist's face in this clip as the end high C goes on...and on.....and on.....AND ON).
For heaven's sake, why didn't I come across this reincarnation of all the best tenors earlier? I am deeply impressed. I hear the best and only the best of Domingo, Björling, Pavarotti in just one voice. What a warm, and yet shining, precise voice! The tempo is quite neck-breaking... I speak italian, I understood every word in his "una furtiva lagrima" and I'm studying French and was able to make out alot of the text in this aria....and of course that final top C :::standing ovation::: BRAVO!!!!!!!
I got to see him live a number of years ago... love him! I love watching a video that makes me start clapping alone in my living room, applauding furiously as an audience of one :) Brownlee has it all- the tone, the range, the looks, the charisma, the acting. He's the total package, a dream tenor for sure :)

I heard Pavarotti sing this aria in 1974, in a terrible hall at C.W. Post College on Long Island. Most of his performance was (for him) relatively light pieces. He saved Ah Mes Amis for his encore, and he was spectacular. I never thought I would hear a better performance but now, 47 years later, I have. I would love to see Mr. Brownlee perform it live. When I heard Pavarotti I was with a friend and his uncle, and the uncle pointed out that Pavarotti seemed afraid, before beginning. And I think he was, a bit. I would be surprised if Pavarotti was afraid at the Met, but a recital is a more intimate performance. Clearly in this performance Mr. Brownlee was definitely not afraid. The smile as he shot his cuffs before beginning tells you that knew that he was going to hit it. I also love that moment at the end, when he is holding that last note, when Mr. Burnside smiles, ever so slightly, in recognition that he, too, is experiencing something extraordinary.
Lawrence's last high note was carried so long making the pianist smile warmly and appreciatively...yes, impressive and so memorable. After Luciano's absolutely definitive version and listening to all the others on the list, Lawrence was tops with Flores and the tenor informally dressed in jeans like in front of a class, were runners up.....Great selection also starring Alfredo Kraus, still in terrific voive if looking much older....
Brownlee was fine, but the tenor I am most impressed with is Roderick Dixon 2001 --- his version in Three Mo' Tenors is a powerful piece. All the other tenors sound "wimpy". I like the POWER in Dixon's voice and version, just saying. Check it out on you tube.
Just saw him in recital at Baylor last week and haven't been able to get enough! A consistent, robust sound that just makes you melt! Definitely the greatest Tenor of his time.
BRAVO !!!!!! He is on my list of "must see" opera singers for the coming season !!! It is absolutely marvelous to have such a breadth of tenors in this repertoire. Different timbres, different "feel" for the music, different deliveries, different expressiveness !!! They each give us a glimpse of true beauty !
It is impossible compare anybodys version of this aria to Pavarotti's but of all the other version this is without a doubt, in my opinion, the best. The top notes are crisp and perfect and the tone of his voice in phenomenal. A fantastic performance summed up by the pianists face at the end of the piece. What a final top C!
I think he is a perfect example of how the voice must be totally free and loose in order to reach that top so beautifully, that fast vibrato is great proof of it

Oh, so wonderful! The Operngala for AIDS-stiftung in Berlin 2009 brought me here. I rewined and listened to the song at least 10 times - got goosebumps everytime. Hat off to you, Mr Brownlee!
Flores has the face, charm, comprehension, and obvious talent, a master tenor...and there's certainly room at the top for several, if not many, talented tenors. Krause may now be too old to take on the roll but all the others including the talented Asian tenors were all so good...but Brownlee may be Luciano's ultimate successor for this fun and so anticipated aria.
Tremendous words that I would oppose were there an untruth present but none I can see. Brownlee's agility and ability to maintain legato and roundness throughout his range lends itself to possibly even begin to cover the territory accomplished by the great Pavarotti. Only time will tell.
I LOVE Mr. Brownlee! He is the best out there today IMO! He is so charismatic, his voice so warm and agile. He makes it seem so easy and effortless! I hope to see much, much more of him in the near future!! Bravissimo!
this is a great example of Bel Canto singing. Very flexible (downright elastic) voice, even tone, agile. I love it. His top notes are everything you could ask for in a leggiero tenor.
