- My vehicle has had s 3 sec cold start timing chain rattle for about 2 years. Recently the engine light would come on randomly and the car would idle rough, especially in drive or reverse. I checked all sensors and they are fine, no vacuum leaks. Codes seem to point to a stretched timing chain with bad tensioner.
I got it back together. No more codes, runs smooth on idle and no more cold start rattle
No. I was praying it was a lifter. Please no . Please no!
Ps. Would love to see if you end up pulling the engine or not to replace the tensioner.
I'm also going to check the phaser cam gear to make sure the dowel hasn't broken and shifted the cam off a few degrees. That is also possible
Im in the same boat but i have not seen a kit that comes with the phaser cams…
They have to be purchased separate
Those tight engine bays are a nightmare.
the chain stretches due to the tensioner?
no, I think it has stretched over the 250000 kms but the tensioner has failed as well.
