I think the toy's "death" rules are kind of like how death works in the world from the Scythe books. They can be "revived" at anytime, provided there is something *to* revive. Like, they couldn't come back if they were destroyed in a fire, but if they were ripped up they can be stitched back together.
There's a good chance that the souls in the great before would never end up inside a toy. The way souls are prepared in the great before seems to be, get personality trait and then a spark, and it is done in a efficient assembly line way. Woody however got his from gaining a personality from "interacting" with different humans and then gaining a spark on earth.

This totally affirms my Toy Story/Velveteen Rabbit theory. Edit* Here's my theory You kind of need to know Velveteen Rabbit for this to make sense In TS1 we meet Woody (and all the others but they're mostly nonessential for this) and Andy. Woody is Andy's favorite toy. In TS1 we see Woody's place as Andy's favorite challenged by the fancy modern toy. In TS2 Andy breaks Woody and Woody freaks out, Andy loves Woody yet loving him is damaging to Woody and Woody has to decide whether he wants to be preserved, we see this mostly in the montage of Woody's "glam up" he loses all his evidence of being loved and used. He decides it's better to be loved than to be perfect (much like the Skin Horse teaches). In TS3 we see Andy outgrow his toys, all the toys are excited to go to preschool and be toys forever, just like Woody wanted in TS1-2. Now Woody just wants to be Andy's toy, we see Woody decides to not go to college just to stay with his friends. Now in TS4 Woody is watching and learning he isn't the favorite toy anymore. He becomes a mentor to Forky and a guide for the others. When he and Forky are walking down the road catching up to the RV, look at the camera angle, in all the other Toy Story movies it's wide to show the size difference between the toys and the world around them. In this scene, it's close up and Woody almost looks lifesize, this continues with most of Woody's shots, he's bigger, when he's under or on top of the carousel he looks lifesize. He also gives his voice box away because he doesn't need it anymore. The last thing is this, we hear throughout the entire saga Woody doesn't want to be anyone but Andy's toy. Yes, he gives up staying with Andy for his friends but he shows, that in TS3 that the toy in him is willing to be broken for the kid he loves, not any. By the end of TS4 Woody looks lifelike by stature from the camera angles. Woody doesn't fit in anymore, not because Bonnie doesn't know how to play with him, not because Woody is too hung up on Andy. Because Andy's love gave Woody a soul. Woody stay with Bonnie's toys because he isn't a toy anymore. He's real.
I think the souls of the axiom people are in a sort of dormant state, they’re probably those big dark gray monsters in the zone. Wall-E is like moonwind, he knocks them out of the obsessive routine state

The numerous other Buzz toys only get attention when a child is picking the toy up to buy, but until the toy is personal/individual to them, while they technically remember the toy, the toy could be replaced and it wouldn't matter to kid (if that makes sense idk if that's the best explanation but I think it could be something that affects things)

Someone bought it, and the child got so scared that she never forgot it, hence why she doesn’t fade. What I mean by fade is I believe that toys are (sorry, but this gets kinda dark) the spirits of dead children. Similar to the Coco afterlife, when children die they become the spirits of toys. Then the second death in Coco or when the toy is forgotten or whatever the afterlife you go to ends, and then they go to the great beyond.

Well in a sense yes but no since we know that for some reason he is conscious when he was at the store and being in a sense 'interacted' with people. when they continue to mark down Pete's price they do have a small interaction which could allow him to at least be able to know what is happening.

I think a good argument against most toys having souls is that they come with a predetermined personality. Sure they develop a personality of their own eventually but I don't think a soul could just jump into one of the buzz figures who already have a personality. There's no empty space for a soul to fill there
Woody definitely has a soul. Normally it doesn't happen immediately, but over the years of someone's life, they're given a soul, thus new life altogether. I've seen this before, and he showed these signs of gaining a soul, throughout the four films.

The way you described how people get a soul kind of reminded me of something in a book I read recently. Said book is quite a bit different from anything Pixar would ever do, but it's actually pretty similar to Soul when it comes to the theme and some of the topics. I know this has very little to do with the majority of the video, but it's just a weird connection that I noticed that I probably wouldn't have without this video, so I thought I'd point it out anyway.
Harry is either an air bender or an earth bender. He is very much like Aang, but is also very stubborn, especially to umbridge. Draco is definitely a fire bender, and so is Voldemort. Hermione is a water bender. Ron is probably either earth or fire. Dumbledore is either air or water.
I think that when someone goes to the zone the same way frequently, it opens a portal to the zone kind of like how hyperspace routes are maintained. The soul energy going into the zone spills out as life.
So Woody has a soul,cool. That means his memories give life to other toys, fine. But what about him? Since he can't die by growing old, does it mean that Woody can be inmortal?
(immortal not iNmortal) I think Toys, even the ascended ones with a soul, are immortal... or to put it more correctly will only truly die if the material they are made from will fully fall apart. For that reason i think ragdols and wooden toys have much shorter lifespan than metal or plastic ones. (Plastic ones can last far longer then metal ones cuz rust.) Kinda like Horcruxes... as long as the vessel is not damaged beyond repair the soul can inhabit it.

In TS1 we meet Woody (and all the others but they're mostly nonessential for this) and Andy. Woody is Andy's favorite toy. In TS1 we see Woody's place as Andy's favorite challenged by the fancy modern toy. In TS2 Andy breaks Woody and Woody freaks out, Andy loves Woody yet loving him is damaging to Woody and Woody has to decide whether he wants to be preserved, we see this mostly in the montage of Woody's "glam up" he loses all his evidence of being loved and used. He decides it's better to be loved than to be perfect (much like the Skin Horse teaches). In TS3 we see Andy outgrow his toys, all the toys are excited to go to preschool and be toys forever, just like Woody wanted in TS1-2. Now Woody just wants to be Andy's toy, we see Woody decides to not go to college just to stay with his friends.
Now in TS4 Woody is watching and learning he isn't the favorite toy anymore. He becomes a mentor to Forky and a guide for the others. When he and Forky are walking down the road catching up to the RV, look at the camera angle, in all the other Toy Story movies it's wide to show the size difference between the toys and the world around them. In this scene, it's close up and Woody almost looks lifesize, this continues with most of Woody's shots, he's bigger, when he's under or on top of the carousel he looks lifesize. He also gives his voice box away because he doesn't need it anymore.
The last thing is this, we hear throughout the entire saga Woody doesn't want to be anyone but Andy's toy. Yes, he gives up staying with Andy for his friends but he shows, that in TS3 that the toy in him is willing to be broken for the kid he loves, not any.
By the end of TS4 Woody looks lifelike by stature from the camera angles.
Woody doesn't fit in anymore, not because Bonnie doesn't know how to play with him, not because Woody is too hung up on Andy.
Because Andy's love gave Woody a soul. Woody stay with Bonnie's toys because he isn't a toy anymore. He's real.

You just made me realize that the underlining theme to the "Toy Story" movies is that the giving of yourself is what gives life meaning, and I think that's a wonderful message to give to kids. And for the question: I do believe all toys do have souls. It would make me sad if they didn't.

I'd think that Toy Story 4 disproves the whole "toys die when no child remembers them" theory.
I mean.. toy story 1 disproved that with the claw machine aliens. Then you've got stinky Pete. Any child that played with him is long since grown if not dead.

For example if you had a Ernie and Bert doll but you only really played with Ernie and Bert just got put in the box you know that Bert exist because you have Ernie and because love can be transferred as long as The toy you were associated with is still remembered I can give you life you go on living.
@@phlpcockrell it's human memory... not exactly being played with. Weezy was "dying," but he was alive because he was still somewhere faintly remembered. Stinky Pete was definitely remembered by Al, who very much cared for him (albeit not in a typical, child's way)... with the aliens, I'm sure there's a lot of kids who see them every day (they're alive similar to how the Display Buzz is in Toy Story 2... nobody physically plays with them, but they're seen and somewhat remembered)

@@goodhuman_person619 right, and I was thinking about that... but it's not as much the individual toy that's remembered as much as it is the product as a whole (and probably, the display gets most of the attention at the store... That's why the other Buzzes aren't alive. The numerous other Buzz toys only get attention when a child is picking the toy up to buy, but until the toy is personal/individual to them, while they technically remember the toy, the toy could be replaced and it wouldn't matter to kid (if that makes sense idk if that's the best explanation but I think it could be something that affects things)

Mini Theory: the personality islands in inside out are the sparks u see on the baby Souls earth pass. It make sense since there are 5 sparks u can get as well as 5 islands in the movie

@@leapyearcouchentertainment8790 My theory is that the malfunction wasn’t found before it was sent to a store. Someone bought it, and the child got so scared that she never forgot it, hence why she doesn’t fade.
What I mean by fade is I believe that toys are (sorry, but this gets kinda dark) the spirits of dead children. Similar to the Coco afterlife, when children die they become the spirits of toys. Then the second death in Coco or when the toy is forgotten or whatever the afterlife you go to ends, and then they go to the great beyond.

I always kind of just felt like he just tried to mimic the way other toys acted. I mean he definitely did become a bit more self aware but in TS4 seeing him over n over press his buttons kind of does seem like he isnt yet self aware enough

Well in a sense yes but no since we know that for some reason he is conscious when he was at the store and being in a sense 'interacted' with people. when they continue to mark down Pete's price they do have a small interaction which could allow him to at least be able to know what is happening.

And the answer to that is very easily answered. No. The creators of the Pixar films did not intend when making a bug’s life that those bugs were existing within the same universe as the toys that came alive in Toy Story.
Pixar definitely know about the Pixar theory now and I think they’re intentionally trolling people by not confirming or denying anything. And doing so would also take away the fun.
I always saw Bo as part of a porcelain lamp, not an actual toy. But Andy needed a stand-in damsel in distress for his play scenarios, so he took her off the lamp.

I was hoping you’d mention Kingdom Hearts 3, in which the villains try to discover why the Toy Story toys have “hearts”.
They don't really tend to "cross the streams" so to speak. I believe it's treated as though the KH versions of the characters are for all intents and purposes alternate Universe versions of those same characters, like versions specific only to the KH world and not the same ones we deal with in the movies.

I think a good argument against most toys having souls is that they come with a predetermined personality. Sure they develop a personality of their own eventually but I don't think a soul could just jump into one of the buzz figures who already have a personality. There's no empty space for a soul to fill there

The way you described how people get a soul kind of reminded me of something in a book I read recently. Said book is quite a bit different from anything Pixar would ever do, but it's actually pretty similar to Soul when it comes to the theme and some of the topics. I know this has very little to do with the majority of the video, but it's just a weird connection that I noticed that I probably wouldn't have without this video, so I thought I'd point it out anyway.

I think Toys, even the ascended ones with a soul, are immortal... or to put it more correctly will only truly die if the material they are made from will fully fall apart. For that reason i think ragdols and wooden toys have much shorter lifespan than metal or plastic ones. (Plastic ones can last far longer then metal ones cuz rust.)
Kinda like Horcruxes... as long as the vessel is not damaged beyond repair the soul can inhabit it.
