Suppose this storm doesn't turn North as expected. This is going to be a huge Cat 5. The east coast of the US should be concerned.

Given they started thinking it would come our way in the UK, the forecasting beyond 5 days remains seaweed. Right now, they seem to have introduced Prayer Power as a rationale to maintain landfall in Maine, when it didn't turn as predicted. Maybe you're right, but it's now going west of the Franklin cold water upwelling, so it won't drop back in power. Trump's next argument will be Act of God.
Watching cautiously from VA Beach.

I hope it does not come here to Florida. We have people still trying to get over Irma, one person being my best friend. As we know hurricane direction can change in the last minute. Since it's been very hot, the ocean is warmer too. If it's a slow moving hurricane it can become stronger hanging out in the ocean. We still have about a week before we know where it's going to go and what category it will be. 🕊🙏🕯
Not to mention we just had Idalia in northern Florida. So far most forecasts say it will turn north out at sea but til it does let us beware.
@@Lasershadow They've been saying that for some time, in hopes it would fall foul of a patch of cold-water upwelling in the wake of Franklin. The current plot sees it actually turn east, with no known rationale: if you remove that stubbornness, it's time for anyone in NY/NJ living in basement or lower floor to evacuate.

Some hurricane models are suggesting that it could get down to 900 MB with sustained winds up to 230 mph there’s no telling what the limit to lee potential

It's all up to the high pressure and how far and fast the jetstream and trough coming from the west dips. Could just take it out to sea..or funnel it right into the northeast if the high is still strong with the trough coming in. Wont be a cat 5 but still a strong and huge 2 or possibly 3 depending how fast it moves once caught in between.
With luck it will stay out at sea a buzz Bermuda with a few storm bands.

There are a lot of powerful thunderstorms surrounding the hurricane. That combined with the high humidity and low wind shear and you have rapid intensification.
