As a Floridian, here are a few tips for any Californians:
    - Wood is good, but metal/plastic shutters are preferable if you can find them this short notice.
    - Stock 2-5 days' worth of food and water (depending on family size) but prioritize fresh water.
    - If you have medical needs, expect the supply to be interrupted at least temporarily.
    - Expect/plan for the power to go out early on in the storm and stay that way at least until the storm is over, possibly longer.
    - DO NOT shelter from Hurricanes, flooding, or storm surge in your basement. Water flows downhill.
    - If you evacuate anywhere, evacuate INLAND and to higher ground; preferably putting the Rockies between yourself and the storm. Even small mountains can cripple a hurricane.
    - If you're at the bottom of a mountain/hill, you're wrong. (Sorry CA)
    - If you're inside a geographic bowl, you're wrong.
    - If you're on the coast, you're wrong.
    - CLOSE/SEAL EVERYTHING! Open windows/doors/garages become leverage for the wind to rip structures apart.
    - DO NOT run a gas-powered generator from inside your closed garage, the carbon-monoxide WILL kill you.
    - If you own a boat/trailer, TIE IT DOWN. Because if you don't and there's any justice in the universe, it'll end up in your roof and not someone else's.
    - If there's any lull in the storm, go outside and try to make sure your local sewage/drainage system is clear of debris. Clogged drainage systems result in flooding.
    - Make a list of local hurricane shelters (probably local community centers/churches) just in case something happens to your home mid-deluge.
    - Emergency services may not be available depending on how bad the storm is. Be ready for that and for the people who try to take advantage of it.
*You got this, good luck!* 😎👍

I just got back from Costa Rica coming through Mexico City and it is full of rain and lightning the kind that will shake your house.
Nothing like I’ve ever seen in California. We will be shocked to see what happens here. I know a lot of people are saying pretty nasty things about the people of California. that’s an awful thing to do because there’s children here and babies , so your prayers are welcome and needed.

How to prepare: If you live in low lying areas near the LA beach your area will flood. If you live in the mountains, your area might have mudslides. Either way: pack up your pets, documents, meds and whatever you and your pets need for a few weeks into your EV and head inland.
If you live on the far side of the mountains, store up some water, non perishable food, flashlight with batteries, manual can opener, extra meds that you need, and form communications with your neighbors. Take care of each other because you can not depend on the government to save you. Just ask New Orleans.

Holy cow, this is gonna be a tropical depression, not a Cat 5! IF we get a direct hit, we might have a few areas with damage or no power, but this is once again going into "fear porn" territory. Louisiana here. My family keeps ready waterproof bags for when a hurricane comes our way. After being without electricity for weeks from Hurricanes Katrina and Rita, we learned a few things. Every hurricane season, we make sure we have emergency money---cash. Lots of small bills kept in a waterproof pouch. We have adult wipes and a bar soap in case the water is off. We have bottles of water in both vehicles and placed throughout the house. One bag has copies of emergency information and coded account information for our banking, pet and social media accounts. Lastly, we pack a bag with three days of clothing change and an extra pair of shoes for each of us. We always have snack foods that can be packed quickly. We're praying for everyone to come out of this storm safe and sound with interesting stories to tell.
