Besides he was always a loner, and was even more of a loner after Cathy died And it wasn't their fault for Heathcliff rejecting them,it was his FAULT!... you have to remember also that Cathy and Heathcliff were very selfish, narcissistic,self serving individuals,who cared about nothing else,or anyone else,but themselves and for each other and the hell with everyone else, sorry but that's just the truth,so you can enjoy the movie, and book,but you also have to accept it with all of it's flaws. @@shannonhughes203 Also I might also add that Mr.Earnshaw gave Heathcliff quite a privileged upbringing,he brought him in from the streets into his own home when he was starving,gave him nice clean clothes, and an education, and it was mostly Hindley who was always jealous of Heathcliff because he couldn't never measure up as a son,and after Mr.Earnshaw died that's when Hindley's wrath was poured out on poor Heathcliff and he made him a servant and became a horrible drunkard.

This, in my humble opinion, is the best version of Wuthering Heights! All the others were good, but a few versions didn't include the second part of the story! Tom Hardy is a phenomenal actor! I actually got a pain in my heart, and immediately started to cry uncontrollably when Tom Hardy screamed as Heathcliff fully realised Cathy was dead! At that moment, it was as though his soul died of grief and torment, but his body remained alive! It was a shockingly heartbreaking scene! Charlotte Riley is my favorite Cathy! Of course, she also is an amazing actress! She, brilliantly, captured the beauty, wildness, and fragility, of Cathy in her superb performance. An absolute masterpiece!

I adore Wuthering Heights and I love this version. However, it is important to acknowledge that their relationship was toxic. Heathcliff is manipulative and borderline abusive. Cathy treats her husband terribly. Of course everyone should enjoy this and think the chemistry is spicy. Yes, it is romantic but make sure you realize how poisonous their relationship is
It's 19th century fiction, Heathcliff is a Satanic/Byronic character. Spicy? Brontë didn't write Harlequin novels. lol Anyone who experiences this type of story thinking it's ideal, is a moron, ignorant of the context.

1:03 first time i saw this movie - that moment, and the haunting image of his perspective of her face in that window above him - was so overwhelmigly sad, beautiful, and painful - it made me break down in tears despite myself, and I couldn't help but admit by the end of the movie (and I am NOT the type to show emotion readily), I couldn't help but say out loud, to my mom who I happened to be watching it with - "that was the saddest thing I have ever seen!!!"
It took me some time after seeing this movie to get over it. I was stunned. I've never watched or read Wuthering heights before that, I had no idea what that was all about, and their acting and the movie as well left me speechless. It's maybe silly, but I felt such a relief when I found out those two got together in real life after the movie (or during, I'm not sure). It puts even deeper meaning to their amazing acting. I'm actually so happy they are husband and wife now and live a happy life. 😊

And then that too is taken from him, love itself betrays him. He lashes out and begins a downward spiral that he cannot escape. He is as much a victim of his rage as is Catherine or Henshaw. We all rage against love, we're just not bold enough to take it as far as Heathcliff. "Thy chase had a beast in view, Thy wars brought nothing about, Thy lovers were all untrue".
Their 100% love was a complete union. It became an entity. Indescribable love we do not know. It became the main character in Bronte's book. It still exists. This adaptation will be with me for a long time. Each time I think about it I bawl my eyes out. And strangely I cannot explain why.
I've had the unfortunate experience of hearing people scream like that in real life, and it's unnerving how perfectly he does it here. I can't imagine where he had to go in his mind to be able to express that moment.

This is not love this is madness . Wuthering heights in my opinion was not a romance novel. It was a stark pathological drama., and most certainly a brilliantly written book ... a literary masterpiece . Its almost disturbing .
That's why it was a scandal by the time it was first published; because it didn't portrait a romantic, idilic, and good morality love story, so in vogue on those days; instead, it shows how destructive and toxic can be an obsessive relationship between two strong temperaments, when pride and vanity and immaturity interfere on decisions that we can make for a lifetime. There was love between Cathy and Heathcliff, I do believe so, but wasn't a kind of a salutar love; they loved each other as much as they hated each other,also, because of the mistakes they both did, mostly motivated by hurted pride. Sometimes, when we're deeply hurted, we do stupid things in the name of revenge. And that's a real thing that Emily Brontë tried to show in her romance, that love isn't always such a fair, plain,clean game; sometimes, can turn into a dark macabre game of strength between two broken hearts! That was a shock to the conservative and make-believe rules of the society by the time; how does she dare to show how cruel can be the reality? Anyway, I can't avoid to feel tears in my eyes for them both, this is one of my ever and forever favourite romances and to see the madness growing in Heathcliff after Kathy died, always make me cry, his end was so sad!

It wasn't till I got considerably older that I began to view the story and the characters very differently. Your analysis was very good. How "dare" indeed does Emily Bronte have the audacity or even the knowledge to show us "how cruel can be the reality" ......of a total obsession with another human being. I agree completely in all that you have said. The relationship between Cathy and Heathcliff was one of passionate love and yet one that encompassed a good deal of loathing to the point of antipathy and utter disgust. I don't think the book was well received when it was first published, no doubt for the reasons that you outlined. For me personally I couldn't help but wonder about the author herself. I wondered if perhaps Miss Bronte could have had a deep fixation with complex characters and the sometimes dangerously horrid and morbid pathways they can embark upon. In any case the novel has become a literary classic and as far as I am concerned it is a Masterpiece in English literature. Yet Heathcliff still gets the glass slipper ending whilst Catherine who suffered over him till her alcoholic death suffers even in the after life. There is no true justice for some of us. Even The ladies ex husband does not get justice.

The novel of Emily Bronte is so explosive. One feels so depressed as one reads it. But at the end we see a ray of hope. I haven't seen any movie as yet. Especially with Ralph Fiennes as Heathcliff the Dark hero and Julia Binoche as the unpredictable heroine Catherine.
This is amazing. Wuthering Heights is my favourite book and this is my favourite adaptation, you captured the essence perfectly! It has made me cry, so beautiful 💚
Cathy was WISE to reject Heathcliff. Unfortunately, that love never died, and worse, she treated her genuinely loving husband Edgar BAD. My sympathies are for her poor husband and their child.

I have done in real life what the fictional Catherine Earnshaw has done when I dumped an ex who both wanted to marry and love, but I chose to reject him and told him that I was never coming back to him and to find someone else or learn to be alone. I asked for his forgiveness and when he forgave me, then I left him permanently. I kept my word - I never have nor will go back. It took eleven years of facing the pain and heartbreak before I was able to cope with and move on. I credit God for giving me that strength to persevere and to my surprise, I met another man whom after dating for over a decade, I finally married him - Frank, my husband. I couldn’t be more blessed to have found him. So yes, I do know what it’s like to have been in Catherine’s shoes. Catherine was a selfish woman to not have moved on.

Both Olivier's and Finnes' Heathcliffe was so unrelentingly cold, cruel and predatory, I could never find a way to care for them or feel any pain for them that many do. This version seems to have struct that careful balance.

This is not love this is madness . Wuthering heights in my opinion was not a romance novel. It was a stark pathological drama., and most certainly a brilliantly written book ... a literary masterpiece . Its almost disturbing .
That's why it was a scandal by the time it was first published; because it didn't portrait a romantic, idilic, and good morality love story, so in vogue on those days; instead, it shows how destructive and toxic can be an obsessive relationship between two strong temperaments, when pride and vanity and immaturity interfere on decisions that we can make for a lifetime. There was love between Cathy and Heathcliff, I do believe so, but wasn't a kind of a salutar love; they loved each other as much as they hated each other,also, because of the mistakes they both did, mostly motivated by hurted pride. Sometimes, when we're deeply hurted, we do stupid things in the name of revenge. And that's a real thing that Emily Brontë tried to show in her romance, that love isn't always such a fair, plain,clean game; sometimes, can turn into a dark macabre game of strength between two broken hearts! That was a shock to the conservative and make-believe rules of the society by the time; how does she dare to show how cruel can be the reality? Anyway, I can't avoid to feel tears in my eyes for them both, this is one of my ever and forever favourite romances and to see the madness growing in Heathcliff after Kathy died, always make me cry, his end was so sad!
@@pollyanna8061 I have lost count of the number of times I have read "Wuthering Heights ". Read it first in High school and thought it was the greatest of love stories. It wasn't till I got considerably older that I began to view the story and the characters very differently.
Your analysis was very good. How "dare" indeed does Emily Bronte have the audacity or even the knowledge to show us "how cruel can be the reality" ......of a total obsession with another human being.
I agree completely in all that you have said. The relationship between Cathy and Heathcliff was one of passionate love and yet one that encompassed a good deal of loathing to the point of antipathy and utter disgust.
I don't think the book was well received when it was first published, no doubt for the reasons that you outlined.
For me personally I couldn't help but wonder about the author herself. I wondered if perhaps Miss Bronte could have had a deep fixation with complex characters and the sometimes dangerously horrid and morbid pathways they can embark upon.
In any case the novel has become a literary classic and as far as I am concerned it is a Masterpiece in English literature.

I honestly have no words, this is one of the most beautiful videos I have ever had the pleasure of watching. I can't begin to tell you how much this story means to me, Wuthering Heights is my favourite book of all time, and this movie is my favourite adaptation of it.

Yet Heathcliff still gets the glass slipper ending whilst Catherine who suffered over him till her alcoholic death suffers even in the after life. There is no true justice for some of us. Even The ladies ex husband does not get justice.

The novel of Emily Bronte is so explosive. One feels so depressed as one reads it. But at the end we see a ray of hope. I haven't seen any movie as yet. Especially with Ralph Fiennes as Heathcliff the Dark hero and Julia Binoche as the unpredictable heroine Catherine.

It took eleven years of facing the pain and heartbreak before I was able to cope with and move on. I couldn’t be more blessed to have found him. So yes, I do know what it’s like to have been in Catherine’s shoes. Catherine was a selfish woman to not have moved on.

Have never heard of this version before, thank you for uploading. I have long wanted to find a version I could like. Both Olivier's and Finnes' Heathcliffe was so unrelentingly cold, cruel and predatory, I could never find a way to care for them or feel any pain for them that many do. This version seems to have struct that careful balance.

Esse filme foi feito tal qual o livro. Por mais que os ignorantes falem mas Heathcliff e Cathy se amavam. Por pior que fossem seus temperamentos um era a metade do outro. Heathcliff era revoltado, por isso esses lances maldosos, antisociais.Apesar de tão mórbido, obsessivo, sem dúvida é uma estória diferente e sem lances sonhadores.Realmente o MORRO DOS VENTOS UIVANTES é uma estória humana, incomum para os romances, mas carregado de amor verdadeiro do Heathcliff. Ele era nau sim, mas sem a Cathy e ela TB foi se abandonando aos poucos e se deixou morrer sem ele.Eu já vi um homem assim, só que em circunstâncias diferentes.

I was captivated by this book summer of ninth grade stuck under an emergency order during a flood. My estranged mother used to joke that it was a bad omen, how I was a Brontë girl and her so obsessed with Austen. So true that was.
