“No, I’d be respected if I couldn’t be loved.” That line is so powerful
I agree with that. I think i never saw a line like that before.
Would you mind enlighten me as what that line meant ? I find so interesting, yet where I live, i cannot watch the whole or find the book in english to understand the whole context of it.
Quỳnh Anh Nguyễn it means that if she couldn’t find a romantic aspect in her life, she would still be worthy of being treated with respect and people shouldn’t underestimate or pass her up simply because she didn’t have a husband :) hope that helped
Could you explain me the meaning, I'm learning English, and I want to know what that means?
Please
😅
It's so powerful how she told Laurie she wouldn't be a second choice. And how that's the same reason she didn't marry Fred. She didn't want to make him a second choice either.
I never thought about that but that must have been exactly why, and it’s excellent.
They're probably my favourite lines from the movie
This is so smart
never thought about this either, but logical. I just blatantly thought she would follow her own heart. :-)
In the book she doesn’t rejects him at all which is sad
I like how amy stand up for herself in the book
"I want to be great or nothing" were such powerful words. As a kid, Amy was childish and impulsive but she grown up to be a mature and strong woman. Greta Gerwig and Florence Pugh gave justice to her character.
“As a kid amy was childish” girl and can you blame her? it’s cause she was literally a kid.
@@sofialaura5219 and some people never get out of that childish and impulsive behaviour for their whole life so yaaa it take guts to become a better person and change yourself. That's really amazing you're not blaming her for being childish & impulsive as a kid but I was blamed a lot I wish there could be more people like you who would understand a kid is a kid and they can change one day.
She grew up the day Beth had scarlet fever she became religious and said she was gonna be less greedy and become someone people loved. She matured pretty young, also she was a kid what did you expect....bruh jo had the same temper it was said.
They could put Florence Pugh in every movie or series and I wouldn't be annoyed with it. I just love her.
This is the first time i saw her and i enjoyed her acting, so graceful and i could feel every emotion in her voice.

@Deena Dinai I already knew it but I want Florence in a series especially from Netflix. Stay safe. :)
If they just had one more scene together where they showed Laurie realising his feelings for Amy, I swear their story would be perfect. It's still super cute. I just would have liked for the relationship to develop a bit more on screen before they got together.
from what i read in the book you see more about their relationship
yeahh i wanted more scenes from them too
@@smrd2564 the book really shows Laurie falling for her, like how she becames his muse, and all he can think about is her hair, how he starts to exchange letters with amy and stops writing to Jo… it’s pretty cute…

@@thari1276 i bought the book. Its different in my perspective. I think i can see why people still think her as a substitute cause every word laurie utters there is the word jo. And he wrote to jo first saying that this is last hope if its still the same answer he will change his mind. And jo still persistent in her words and the only time he wrote to amy cause jo mention her. And this is the part I think I hate the most "Amy is the only one who could fill Jo's part".... Anyone else noticed that Florence used the “young Amy” voice when Amy saw Laurie for the first time in Europe as if she was a child again and then after she reverted back to grown Amy again especially after she was disappointed in him and realized that they are no longer children
i think some people do kinda like start acting like how you acted when you were close to an old friend (can’t say I don’t but I don’t think I’ve ever experienced it)

I love how he tries to play with her and evade her questions the way he did with Jo but she doesn’t let him. Really solidifies why she’s better for him
THIS
I think Amy is the strongest of the sisters. She knew how to use her strengths/advantages to get what she wanted. When something failed, she was able to set new goals for herself. She also knew she would marry a rich man, but showed adulthood when she chose love and life with Laurie. For me, she is an example of a strong and self-confident woman.
True but from my perspective I would think Jo is the strongest sister out of all of them cause of the way she’s always supporting her family and doing everything she can for her sisters.Amy hasn’t experienced much of life distress.

Notice how Laurie wears the ring Jo gave him on his ring finger, right up until he choses Amy at the end...like in a way he has let Jo go.
"Not when I spend entire life loving you"
The fact that she unconsciously chose to draw Laurie the day she met Fred, shows her and Laurie were meant to be.
Is it just me who ended up wanting the movie to be about them instead? 😭😂
The movie isn't actually about Jo and Laurie, it's about the March sisters: D

Knowing that Jo was written to mirror the author, who was gay, Amy and Laurie feels much better for both of them.
Owah I never knew this thank u for the info
Omg wow I didn’t know that. Makes sense tho because of just how much Jo was a feminist and opposed to a romantic relationship with a man to the point where it pissed me off
I thought she was asexual.
The author wasn't gay. We're the fuck did you get them from why does everybody think the author was either gay or Trans or something why can't she just be a woman who didn't want to get married and didn't like social standards at the time ans probably had some internalized misogyny issues. Really shows that even today woman can't be woman without getting a label thrown on there back only now it's from the liberals instead of the conservatives.
I mean she could've been gay or asexual or any od that stuff but like she didn't have to be and why is everybody assuming she was? Knowing the time period louisa was born in she had alot of stuff going on that might make her seem a little uh genderqueer nowadays. But not because she absolutely was. Because back than everything was considered gender queer so the fact that louisa always seemed to see herself as like a extreme tomboy or something really was only because if she did get married she probably really wouldn't have a life of her own and social standards dictated that any woman who acted outside the gender norm was a strange creature
Imagine how strong and passionate Amy is that she encourages Laurie to be a better version of himself, with no expectation of a future with him. To love Laurie, her entire life and yet to say no to his proposal because she refused to be second best. She has loved him through it all, and I'm glad that he truly saw Amy and fell in love with the woman she has become. Together they are beautiful, vibrant and stable.

they are so in love with each other, it hurts my heart to see how long it took for them to realise it.
Oh I'm with you 100% on that.@user-qr5ex2hd7l Wokeness is influencing modern Hollywood way to much, it's honestly more of a competition on how many LGBTQ+ (whatever the bloody anagram is nowadays) friendly notions and racial/religious/mental condition (Autism, ADHD, etc...) they can fit into one production to appease to overly sensitive Millennial's.
The amount of times I've seen previously straight white chracters suddenly become POC non-binary them/them or xer/xers fem=presenting-persons with Autism is just atrocious. It's like modern media is just the perfect chance for said Millennial's to create their perfect Mary Sue OC in a previously loved and well remembered fandom.
People hated her for the ship of laurie and jo, and because of amy's immature deeds when she was young, but if you read the book, all of them did immature things, and for me, Amy was the one who grow up immensely into a great woman.. and the POV is of course from Jo that's why people don't seem to see that Jo is quite extravagant in stating things out to others (more like controlling hehe) but they all matured well indeed.. Jo and Laurie are meant to be friends while Amy and Laurie are meant for each other because they actually do love each other.. Laurie thought he was in love with Jo, but that was only because of the admirations he has with her... (wow this is a long one hahahha)

I feel like in the light of growing up with her sisters, she lost the child innocence that the others have, she began to be realistic, and I love that about Amy's character
does anyone else love the way she says "its laurie" at 0:49 she like him so much
Same like her face and dazed eyes say it all she was so in love with him and I makes me sad how long it took for him to realize it because he was so obsessed pining over Jo
This is so pure and personal.
Jo is his first love, Amy is his last and forever love🤧
I i have so much respect for both Jo and Amy because they both acted with dignity. Jo clearly told Laurie why they would never work RIGHT THEN AND THERE WHEN HE CONFESSED, and not giving him an unsure chance that will have him holding on to false hope. She was so straightforward about the reasons why, and it all made sense, that later on Laurie did realized he was saved from a would-be devastating marriage.
And Amy, as much as she was so inlove with him, and as much as she was immature or a bit selfish when she was young, she also never really did anything to ruin Jo and Laurie because she respected and acknowledged that he liked Jo. She wouldn't even accept his confession at first even if he was her dream because it wasn't right, as she was still with someone else and it does looked like she's just a second choice. And that line "I'd be respected if I couldn't be loved"??? That's peak elegance.
They are the epitome of women who knew their worth.
Timothee is adorable🥺
I’m slowly learning to love their relationship more than what Jo and Laurie’s used to be since Laurie looks like he really loved Jo but Amy’s been with him through ups and downs even if it hurt her seeing him make a wreck of himself because of his love for Jo
I can't stop hearing this statistics song in my mind every time I see timothee

I didn't got it
I love this. Florence and Timothee are mesmerizing.
She is my favourite character because she grew the most throughout the whole movie/book. She overcame her ego and gained the confidence and the dignity she needed. Jo is an incredible selfless character but I don’t think you can compare them because they are too different.
I wish we got more time to see Amy and Laurie’s relationship grow. It almost seems like Amy was right when she said “you only settled for me because you couldn’t have her.”. I know he really did love her but we didn’t see enough of them together and watch them grow.
ps,
I think Laurie always loved both Amy and Jo, but just realised he loved Jo first. He was most likely in denial about loving Amy (romantically) and just decided believe that he loved her like a sister, not a lover until after Jo rejected him. He most likely took some time to think about what he truly wanted and realised ‘I love Amy too’ and when they were in Paris, learned to love her more while spending time with her and getting to know her more mature self.
I can’t stop watching the part where he says don’t marry him and the line that she says up is so powerful when she says not when I spend my entire life loving you that touch me! 😭
a lot of people hate on amy because she “stole” laurie away from jo but remember that jo said no and she even said to her mother that she felt so lonely and that’s why she felt as if she was in love with laurie and it really disappoints me that laurie and amy didn’t spend more time with each other because the relationship felt rushed and i am not denying their chemistry but we would have liked more screen time of them together because they really are a beautiful duo on tv and i just wish we could have seen how complex amy’s and lauries feelings were.
I can watch this again and again and love them more every time. Tim and Florence are made for each other in exactly the same way as Laurie and Amy are and that makes this film so magical ❤.
The “don’t marry him” scene was so beautiful
The pain in her voice when she says"Are you in Love" breaks my heart and gets my eye teary.
Yep, I definetely need a whole long-ass movie about them two. I'm sure I'd love it at least as much as Elizabeth and Darcy's story.
the carriage scene is literally the cutest thing ever, just pure, unadulterated excitement and joy when they see each other 😭
I like Amy and Laurie more then Jo and Laurie. I think it’s a better love story.
Me too. I think a lot of people love the conception of first love. But a love who have a development it's more beautiful of watch. And as Laurie Amy's first love is so heartbreataking.
Aphrodite • exactly, I think the fact that he was Amy’s first love and he only grew to appreciate her later is a better love story. Her line about how she will not be who he settles for even though she’s spent her entire life loving him. That always makes me cry. Bc I get it.

- Amy March
jo and lauries relationship is different from amy and lauries..
i think that jo probably liked laurie at some point in her life but she pushed the feelings aside because she didnt want to lose the beautiful friendship between them while amy and laurie had this love between them forever but they never said anything about it until laurie kissed her.
to be honest theres apart of me that thinks that jo and laurie should've dated but then again amy and laurie are endgame.
I think they should've date too. But as you said, Amy and Laurie are endgame.
Jo never loved Lauries in this way
They could have dated and ended up breaking up and losing their friendship. It would not have worked out in the end as they were too similar. Jo couldn't make Laurie a better man the way Amy did. They would either get along too much to the extent where theres no room for self improvement for both of them or fight to death and end up hating each other forever. Amy is his ultimate endgame as she could change him for the better and balance him out perfectly.
a wise man once said that the way you know that someone is in love is through their smile
the moment they see you their eyes will shine and they smile will get wide
its not a typical smile
but a smile that shows that this person makes you feel giddy in a certain way
i see that smile on laurie when he sees amy
he just didn't realize it until later
We will never know if Laurie really loved Amy as much as he loved Jo. We will never know if they just married because of the benefits they could get from each other.
But I believe that Laurie's feelings for Jo melted away after the time he spent with Amy. And he loved Amy just in a different way. He was a teenager when he fell in love with Jo and when he finally grew up, he loved Amy and spent the rest of his life with her.
And I'm not sad about that at all.
I mostly hated this new version of ‘little women’
Because it was too on the nose but it broke my heart when Amy said ‘not when I’ve spent my whole life loving you’. Because no one stops to think about that. The reason amy
Burned jo’s book is because she couldn’t go to the theater with them. When I realized that it made total sense.
Amy saw the potential in him to be a better man than he was. She was the most honest person to him. And that kind of love, the one where you want to become better for the other person, is the most powerful kind of love
now that I've seen this, I think Jo and Laurie loved each other, but their love wasn't enough for them to be together. Seeing Amy and Laurie's scenes made me realize that it was really them from the start. Laurie is smart enough to differentiate his love for Jo and Amy. Though I might say that Jo and Laurie could make a cute couple 'cause they both looked so carefree and comforting while Amy and Laurie looked rather stiff and too elegant I guess?
Something like that. Jo and Laurie would be a cute people, cause they're friends at first, but the way the relationship about Amy and Laurie grows, its beautiful.
Laurie might end up being a kid forever if he ends up with Jo. He would follow her around trying to prove his worth seeking her validation. Jo might at first remain calm and kind nurturing him and stuff but soon she would get fed up as she needs challenge in her life. Jo and Laurie will end up shunning each other's growth process as human beings. Jo needs someone who can tame her and challenge her at the same time just like Laurie. Amy made Laurie grow and become more mature and empowered from within.

Florence Pugh plays her so brilliantly! I'm in love
I need to get someone who looks at me the same way Laurie looks at Amy
I love this adaptation of little women. It not only was a fantastic film but it gave so much more detail into the sisters lives. I love how Florence portrayed Amy. She shows how much Amy loved Laurie, and how complex her character is. This adaptation showed that Amy and Laurie were in love and that jo and Laurie could never be together because they didn’t love each other the way Amy and Laurie loved each other. This film shows how he fell for her instead of making Amy seem malicious and out to get jo. I hate when people go on about how jo and Laurie should be together bc they really shouldn’t. This film shows jos lack of interest romantically in Laurie. It it one of the best films I have ever seen
This is an utter work of art! Also can we talk about how beautiful Florence Pugh looks in the white floral dress?
First, thank you for your comment
i hope this taught the older siblings that being the youngest isn’t easy
I'm in love with the part when he says "why? You know why"
She loved him from when she was young, and was so mad that he loved her sister first and didn't notice her till she was a lady, but she still forgave him when he took his time to love her too
The movie was exquisite as is this classic literary couple. Never was Laurie in love with Jo nor was Amy a second choice or simply the March sister he could have because all he wanted was to be in the March family but this was the first time a version of Little Women portrayed that to the audience in such a unambiguous way about why Laurie & Amy end up married while Laurie & Jo end up the best of friends.
THIS IS AMAZING. I ship them so much!!!!!!!
I cried so many sad and confused and happy tears for this movie. It was done so well.
What's interesting is that both Jo and Amy both chase after their love interests, instead of passively accepting a man's interest and proposal, as was the norm at the time. Amy literally chases Laurie in the park, Jo chases after Bhaer as he leaves for the station. Another way in which they didn't conform to the time.
0:10 ya same sis. Same
Every single fan of tim here hahaha
Please excuse the long rant below ⬇️
Laurie loved both Jo and Amy in such different ways.
Laurie met Jo when he was young and wild and all he wanted was to be free of his fathers rules. He saw her as this fierce and independent woman with a singed dress and loud mouth. He was drawn in by her; the part of him that craved freedom saw a life of freedom with her. And he fell in love mode and more every time they were together. But I don’t think he ever loved Jo herself romantically. He loved her as a best friend and he loved her way of living which he thought was more than enough be happy in a marriage. Especially when you look at how many miserable marriages there were back them.
When Laurie and Amy meet in Paris after he was rejected by Jo, he is unsure of how to act now that his best friend is no longer there to be carefree with him. He acts childish at the party because he doesn’t know how else to act. He only knows his fathers strict rules or Jo’s wildness; no in between. But Amy shows him an in between. She shows Laurie who he is. And he wakes up when he hears that she’s going to marry Fred. He realizes that the woman standing in front of him is strong and intelligent like Jo, but also balances his childishness with her maturity. He sees that Amy is more than Jo’s little sister; she is his match. She rivals him where it matters. And he falls so much harder for her than he ever did for Jo.
By the time they get married, he’s realized that Amy is his soulmate in marriage, but Jo was always his platonic soulmate. He acknowledges that his father was only ever doing what was best for him, and Amy gives that feeling of home that he misses.
I can best describe it as a vacation; at first, you never want to leave. You want to stay in this new place forever making new experiences forever. This is Jo and Laurie. But after a while, you miss home. All you want is to crawl back into your own bed and be with your family. Your heart aches for that feeling of comfort and you see how much you took granted before you went on vacation. This is Laurie and Amy.
omg, so beautifully well said. it makes so much sense and goes well with laurie's character. in the beginning, he can go from one extreme to another. there was no middle ground. until he reunited with amy in paris, and she became that middle ground.
Scenes of grown up Amy are the ones that stuck with me the longest, i was annoyed by the character when she was a child but then i realized after these scenes that she *was* a child and she's grown up to be so mature and self-respecting and i fell in love
when the movie ended i just cried cause jo and laurie didnt end up together and i think i need to watch the movie again to understand laurie's love for amy gah
What’s the name of the movieee

This remind me of true story I've heard before. They became friends for a long time, the boy never sees the girl as love of his life but when that one night, by just staring that girl he just felt the feelings that he had been longing for and just had private conversation with only 2 of them, he just ask the girl to marry him. 20 years of their marriage btw.
