Expansion Big 12’s BIG Problem: SEC, Big 10 Kicking Conference Out of College Football Realignment

  • The Big Ten and SEC have established themselves as the premier conferences in college football, often outshining the Big 12 in several critical aspects. These differences manifest in terms of financial strength, competitive success, recruiting prowess, and overall brand power.
    Financial Strength
    The Big Ten and SEC boast the most lucrative media rights deals in college sports, generating substantial revenue for their member schools. The Big Ten's recent agreements with major networks and streaming platforms, combined with the SEC's long-standing partnership with ESPN, ensure robust financial support. This influx of funds allows these conferences to invest heavily in facilities, coaching staff, and other resources, creating a cycle of sustained success. In contrast, the Big 12's media deals, while significant, do not match the financial magnitude of those in the Big Ten and SEC, limiting their competitive edge.
    Competitive Success
    On the field, the SEC and Big Ten consistently field teams that compete for national championships. The SEC, with powerhouses like Alabama, Georgia, and LSU, has dominated the College Football Playoff era, winning multiple titles. Similarly, the Big Ten, led by Ohio State and Michigan, regularly features in playoff contention. These conferences' depth is evident, with multiple teams consistently ranked in the top 25. The Big 12, despite having competitive programs like Oklahoma and Texas (now moving to the SEC), has struggled to maintain the same level of dominance and depth across the board.
    Recruiting Prowess
    Recruiting is another area where the Big Ten and SEC excel. These conferences attract top high school talent, driven by their facilities, coaching, and exposure. The SEC's recruiting dominance is legendary, routinely securing the nation's top classes. The Big Ten, particularly Ohio State and Michigan, also pulls in elite recruits. The Big 12, while competitive, often lags in recruiting rankings, making it challenging to keep pace with the talent levels in the Big Ten and SEC.
    Brand Power
    The overall brand power of the Big Ten and SEC extends beyond football. These conferences have cultivated powerful identities, boasting passionate fan bases, historic rivalries, and significant media presence. Their games attract large television audiences and command high advertising dollars. The Big 12, while having a strong regional presence, lacks the same national brand recognition and media draw.
    Conclusion
    In conclusion, the Big Ten and SEC outshine the Big 12 in financial strength, competitive success, recruiting prowess, and brand power. Their superior media deals, consistent on-field success, ability to attract top talent, and robust brand identities position them as the leading conferences in college football, setting a benchmark that the Big 12 strives to reach.

    I will be watching Utah, BYU, and CU games. Big 12, despite the hate for CU, needs CU to pop out. If CU isn't competitive it significantly diminishes viewership for the league.

So, Drake, when you just nod your head and agree with some random dude that trashes the conference you are supposedly representing, well, it is hard to think your show is worth watching. No pity party for WVU, the school is making money, winning in major sports, recruiting and have nice facilities. Just because WVU is a supposed "outlier" to the big 12 footprint does not mean things are not good. The program is respected. We are in the east and relevant there, especially when winning, national media covers well (DC, New York) , Big 12 just happens to be the conference that we joined when big east fell apart...we knew away games would be difficult...thats just the way it is. WVU can hold its own athletically. AND if you wanna know the difference for the fans the passion, it comes from thought process like you Drake stating "no one cares about WVU" the underdog, outlier university in the conference. lol

    Decent video, but somebody, please tell Red that the BXII was a merger of the Big 8 and the Southwest Conference. Red said it was a combination of some Midwest teams and the SWAC (SOUTHWEST ATHLETIC CONFERENCE). The SWAC is an athletic conference comprised of historically black colleges and, therefore, not the Southwest Conference (SWC)!

    What is wrong with Rutgers vs UCLA? You are neither a Big Ten fan nor alumni.
    UCLA bball made a name for itself based on Indiana/B1G talent. So dont act like Rutgers or any Big Ten team doesnt seem right going up against USC/UCLA.

    WVU'S Garrett Greene - West Virginia at the Manning Quarterback camp.
    When the quarterbacks chatted about who flashed during the event, one name that continued to come up with Greene. And for good reason. The West Virginia starter had a nice throwing session, working the intermediate and deep game well relative to the 40-plus quarterbacks who competed in the event. Green made his case for one of the best Big 12 quarterbacks at the event, and with some nice throws from Baylor's Dequann Finn, Iowa State's Rocco Becht and Houston's Donovan Smith, the new-look Big 12 was well- represented at the Manning Passing Academy.

    The future of College Football is not pretty. It will be a 2 conference super league. With about 40-50 teams split between the 2. And those teams will only be the "brand name" teams that bring eyeballs to screens -or- represent a geographic market. After that, whatever is leftover is getting pushed down to the next tier of football and forgotten.
    That means probably 1/2 the Big XII gets relegated. Probably half of the ACC too. And I'd expect the hanger-ons to get booted from the B1G and SEC.
    For a lot of teams, the future is going to look more like Oregon State and Washington State. But don't worry, we'll have the beer on ice for ya.

      @andrewferguson700 3 дні тому

      Trucked? Colorado beat Nebraska by a wide margin, despite a lot of sacks. Colorado is way better and Nebraska is starting a true freshman against two of the best edge rushers and two of the best corners in CFB. Why the CU hate? The Big12 needs CU to be good to backfill the OU UT losses.

    • @jordanmerchant8757
      @jordanmerchant8757 2 дні тому

      @@andrewferguson700 Hate? Why is it, when somebody doesn't choose CU, they're haring on them? I just happen to think Nebraska is going to be much improved this year. And judging off Rhules past, his 2nd year has been total reversals. Also, Memorial stadium is a hard place to play and CU doesn't have a good track record lately of playing well in tough environments. I'm not a Nebraska fan amd I'm not a CU fan. Also, I don't think Deions strategy of overhauling the roster with transfers every year is a solid one. You need continuity on the team. He ran out half his roster for a 2nd year in a row. We'll see. Maybe CU will be a juggernaut.

    • @andrewferguson700
      @andrewferguson700 2 дні тому

      @@jordanmerchant8757 All your points are valid, but Prime is going to back off the Portal once the CU Roster looks more like a roster you would see at say Missouri/SEC. We have to equalize our roster to match others, and HS would take forever to backfill the bad classes we had. We beat Nebraska at Memorial Stadium last time with a pretty weak team, and Prime's second year at Jackson St was a championship built the same way. I would love to have everyone really understand this years roster quality, and character, which honestly last year there were a lot of players exposed for not being team guys or being able to buy in fast enough. Luckily they have had more time, more togetherness and I believe they will win at least 8 games and beating NU is a must. Freshman QB against the rushers and the corners is going to be fun. Appreciate your sensibility, and the Buffs do have to play well together to keep the momentum going, and I like what we are seeing.
