Expansion Big 12 Teams Leaving Next: Utah to Big 10, West Virginia to ACC, UCF to SEC with Texas/OU?

  • If West Virginia and Utah left the Big 12, it would create a significant shift in the conference's dynamics and overall structure. The departure of these two programs would impact the Big 12 in terms of competition, geographic reach, and financial stability, while also presenting new opportunities and challenges for both West Virginia and Utah.
    Impact on the Big 12
    The Big 12 would face a substantial challenge in maintaining its competitive balance and reputation. West Virginia and Utah have both been integral in contributing to the conference’s competitive landscape. West Virginia’s strong football and basketball programs, along with Utah’s recent football successes, have added depth and excitement to the Big 12. Their departure would leave a void that the conference would need to fill, potentially by adding new schools or realigning existing ones.
    Geographically, the Big 12 would become more concentrated in the central United States. West Virginia’s exit would eliminate the conference’s presence in the East, while Utah’s departure would reduce its reach in the West. This contraction could limit the Big 12’s ability to attract new markets and media deals, impacting its financial stability. The conference would need to strategically consider how to expand or realign to maintain its national presence.
    Opportunities for West Virginia and Utah
    For West Virginia, moving to a conference like the ACC would bring benefits such as reduced travel distances, increased regional rivalries, and enhanced financial stability. The ACC’s strong basketball tradition and competitive football landscape would provide a suitable home for West Virginia’s athletic programs, fostering greater fan engagement and academic collaboration.
    Utah, on the other hand, might look towards the Pac-12 or Big Ten for a more stable and lucrative conference affiliation. Both conferences offer substantial media deals and strong academic networks. Joining the Pac-12 would align Utah with schools of similar geographic and academic profiles, while the Big Ten would provide a more significant financial boost and increased national exposure.
    Challenges and Adjustments
    However, transitioning to new conferences would come with challenges. Both West Virginia and Utah would need to adapt to different competitive environments and build new rivalries. The cultural and logistical adjustments required for such moves could be substantial, affecting athletes, staff, and fans.
    Conclusion
    In conclusion, if West Virginia and Utah left the Big 12, the conference would need to navigate the challenges of maintaining its competitive and geographic balance. For West Virginia and Utah, new conference affiliations would offer both opportunities and challenges, potentially enhancing their athletic and academic prospects while requiring significant adjustments. The landscape of college athletics is continually evolving, and such moves would be pivotal in shaping the future trajectories of these programs and the Big 12.

Don’t worry about our coaching situation. This is really old news to us. And give it a break with what Coach Whit said. Why would us Mountaineers want to go to the ACC we have a TV contract in the Big 12. Acc's is about up and losing FSU and Clemson would devalue their contract if they get one. Why would we want to get into that mess?? We already play pitt every year so that would not be a benefit yes less travel time we would love that but I think it would be a step backwards.

    I can promise you 1000% without even watching this video, there is absolutely no way WVU goes to the ACC. Our new media deal starting in 2025-2026 is going to be 50m per school. WVU wants to be in a football conference, and that is the Big 12, not the ACC.

    West Virginia is not going to the ACC, that ship has sailed a long time ago and we've found our home in the Big 12. Now, we're just waiting for parts of the ACC to come to us; UofL, Pitt, hopefully Va Tech and probably less likely, but Miami also. Should the ACC actually collapse in real life, there is potential for a great, tradition rich, NEW Big 12 with built in rivalries and a hell of a product on display every Thursday night and Saturday.

      @davidframe1613 День тому +4

      100% agree West Virginia belongs in the Big 12 unless they start adding more out west teams like Washington State and Oregon State the travel would be just too much at that point. I think the only other way West Virginia ever leaves the Big 12 would be an SEC invite which any B12 team would take that opportunity.

    • @robertsanders6858
      @robertsanders6858 День тому +2

      The ACC member schools would rather go G5 than invite WVU...theyve made that abundantly clear time and time again. According to the federal goverment report realeased by IPEDS, not a single ACC school considers WVU as a peer and since more academic money is tied up in these moves than athletic money and since the presidents and board of directors are the ones really voting on these things, WVU could potentially find themselves in the SEC or remaining in the Big 12 where there academic standards dont mean nearly as much. But a move to the ACC or Big 10 is nothing more than fanboy dreaming at this point.

I’m a Hokie and just bought tickets this week to check out Stanford since I like going to new stadiums, but it’s ridiculous that we’ll play them and not WVA or Tennessee regularly. Proximity is not only makes the fan experience more accessible for those wanting to travel on a budget, but it also adds to the rivalry. I love cuttin it up with Vol fans or Mountaineer fans. They will be that third conference and get more play off money when they do that look in a few years from now when the ACC loses their best 4-6 programs. The only programs that are additive for the B10 or SEC is ND. Clemson and FSU are additive for the B12 for sure but they are a push for the SEC and B10. UNC and Miami are not additive for the B10 or SEC but would be for the B12. Miami WILL go to B1G IF FSU goes to SEC. If FSU goes to B1G then Miami is 50/50 SEC/XII imo. I don't see the continue expansion of B1G/SEC beyond 20 to 24 teams MAX. The issue is Dilution. Fact is at $100M Per school, B1G/SEC do not have many schools out there left that equate to add value. FSU/Clemson/UNC for sure are close or maybe on par with $100M value per year, but beyond that you would be diluting the P2, which as a XII fan I say GO FOR IT!
