Hey folks, wanted to throw together a quick update on my 2021 Polygon Siskiu T8. I've changed quite a few things on this bike and there's still more that I want to do it! I've been loving the bike but would love to hear from you guys on what you think of it!
Parts List:
Fork - 2021 Fox 36 Performance 150mm 44mm offset
Shock - 2021 Fox DPX2 Performance Elite
Brake Rotors - Shimano XT SM - RT86 203mm front 180mm rear
Brake Pads - Shimano HO3C Metallic Pads
Stem - NukeProof Sam Hill Oil Slick Stem 31.8 Clamp
Bars - PNW Range 31.8 Diameter
Grips - Deity Lockjaw
Pedals - Deity Deftrap
What brakes should I get for this bike? Let me know what you guys are running and how like it!
shimano saint
Deore m6120
I have this bike and pulled quite a bit off it when it arrived, the brakes being the first to go. I replaced the factory equipped Orion brakes with a set of Shimano SLX 4 Piston brakes w/ Ice Tech vented metallic pads matched to Ice Tech rotors.
Magura mt7 or mt5
I switched to mt5 on the first day on my t8
Curious if you thought of trying the megneg on this. Nevermind, just realized I switched mine to a RS super Deluxe and you have Fox. But curious on your thoughts on whether you think if you had the RS if you feel the megneg would work. I'm heavier, I'm fit but come in at 230 ready to ride.
Looks great! Stoked to hear you are still enjoying the bike!
Thanks! How bout we get me an affiliate link?
That's a gorgeous bike, bro. Also, noticed you have Tektro brakes; if they're the 4-piston kind, they are so underrated. I ride a Norco Torrent with 4-Piston Tektro and they are great.
Yeah the Tektros are solid for their price. Another really good cheap break is the shimano BR-M4120. Upgrade from tektro
Any chance you can throw together a list of the upgrades and links to them in the info section? About to pick up this bike and Im pretty excited.
Yeah definitely, I'll put together a list! I'm not sure if you'll be able to find everything in stock but I'll do my best.
@@MidWestMTB do you have that upgrade list ready...I have the same bike!
thanks
Eric Sheaffer
@@ericsheaffer5083 Thanks for the reminder! I couldn't find links to everything but I put up a list in the description. Let me know if you have any questions!
Hey man, sorry for the late reply but I got the parts list up. Couldn't find links to a lot of the stuff, seems its sold out in most places but if you have trouble with anything let me know.
sending my support from Polygon MTB group. I have go for Magura MT7
Thank you man! Do you have the MT7s? I love the HC3 levers, they look awesome.
@@MidWestMTB yeah i just change few days on T8. will have it tested today and share some pictures of my upgrade on the polygon group.
Following up to see which brakes you ended up going with.
I swapped out the brakes on my bike with Shimano Deore 4 pot. Much better.
Nice video. Helpful information. I have a Siskiu T8 too and love this bike for the type of trails we have in the Midwest. I need to lengthen my stem. Did you have to add or remove the stock spacers to get the Nukeproof Sam Hill stem to fit correctly? I noticed the Nukeproof stem has a 35 mm stack height. Is the Polygon/Entity stem also a 35 mm stack height? Thanks for your help!
I'm not sure on the stack height. I had the fork before the stem so my spacer set up changed due to that. Appreciate it though man!
Nice video man, thanks. I actually have the same problem right now using the dropper post lever with a busted left thumb. I wasn't sure if I could loosen the lever or not but maybe I'll be better off getting the PNW.
I think they're having a sale right now! If not you could always buy the refurbed ones they sell and save ~20 dollars. The lever is probably the best upgrade I did haha
Or Wolftooth
I agree the oil slick goes with the color of the bike.
Then why didn’t you get the N9?
Great video
Sweet bike
I originally didn't think I'd need a bigger bike, I live in a very mellow and flat area but I started to travel a lot more and realized a little more bike would make things a lot easier for me!
hey great video. Does the upgraded 150mm fork change how the bike feels ? Does it make it more capable for enduro riding ?
I like this bike but the only thing that stops me from buying it is that I’m worried that it’s descending capability is weak but people say that it should be good enough
I think that the bigger difference comes from going from the 34 to the 36 not so much the 10mm in travel gain. The 36 feels much more composed in gnarlier sections, that being said the better I get the less I feel like I need the 36.
I noticed your Marquette Trails Fest hats, how’s the T8 up there? I’ve been racing the enduros on my hardtail and I’m looking to finally get a full suspension.
Hahah that’s awesome that you recognized that! They do a killer job on those races. The T8 works well. Especially with the 36 up front, it feels very stable and confidence inspiring on the chunky stuff.
Nice vid. I'm picking up mtb soon and getting the 2022 t8 as my first full suspension. Mostly for health and weight management.
Your vid also covered some things that gave me idears.
Might work out better then expected, only concerned about if it can stand up to my weight of 107ish kg (238 ish lb) so looking at some peddles to hold my heavy ass up, and a (almost) full set of volume reduces should cover the suspension for me.
Yet again nice vid and thanks.
Thanks a lot man! Yeah volume spacers are definitely a must in the fork and in the shock! They'll make things a lot easier to manage for your weight.
This bike will easily handle your weight. I am about the same weight and it shreds. Yes volume spacers will help.
When you picked up the DPX elite did you get the 210 x 55?
Yeah you can also get a 210x52.5 and remove the spacer
You have the RT81 rotors with the center lock, not the RT86 with the six bolt. I almost ordered the wrong part using your parts list.
The box says RT86 on it and they are centerlock, not sure what to tell ya on that one lol
The stock brake rotors are only compatible with organic pads so if you want more stopping power from metallic pads you need new rotors too.
they're on there if you look close ;)
@@MidWestMTB I know that you said you replaced yours. My comment was directed towards that part of the video where you told the viewers to start by just replacing the pads as it’s a cheaper alternative. I was just pointing out that by only replacing the pads you would have to stick with organic. That’s all
@@tevahflys ooh gotcha! Good point then!
Did you have to grease anything when you first got the bike or since you've had it? I just pre-ordered a 2022 and I'm wondering if I should grease certain things when it's brand new.
Background music was too distracting.
Only heard half of what you were talking about.
Good vid otherwise.
Does the stock rear shock have a lockout? I can't recall from memory.
You're the second person to say that about the music which is crazy because you can barely hear it on my end. Yeah the stock shock has a lockout and climb switch.
@@MidWestMTB Wasn't meant to be disrespectful. 🙏
About the shock tho...did it still have pedal bob with the lockout on?
This bike is on my list of possibles to buy, and just trying to find out as much about each on my list as possible. In the end, if it means spending a bit more for a better spec'd bike out the box, I'll run that course. Just rather not have to replace too much, if anything at all for a while.
Coming from BMX, I can say Tektro doesn't get much love here either. Everything they make for BMX is very sub par on quality and functionality.
Guess those would have to get swapped pretty quick.
@@gardenstateflatlandb Yeah, the breaks are a headache unless you like taking them apart and lubing the pistons constantly to get them all to engage properly. No pedal bob with the lockout, the shock upgrade is just a nice to have not a need to have for sure. I just happened to get a killer deal on it.
@@MidWestMTB Thanks bro. Appreciate the info and time you took to reply. Every little bit helps.
It's been fun learning all the parts and geometry lately.
BMX is different in that most riders piece their builds together, yet many MTBer seem to buy completes and change parts out as needed.
I thought I knew enough about MTB components to make a quick decision on a bike, but wow was I wrong. Thought my head was gonna explode the first few days just researching forks alone. Still only scratching the surface there tho. Am informed enough to know that these Fox forks blow Rockshox Recons away, so stopped looking at super budget bikes that come with Recons. Learned a ton about geometry and how it affects downhill vs uphill, and what geo works best for each style of riding. Because of that I scratched a few bikes off the list that I found to be more XC oriented. Focusing more on Trail and Enduro focused bikes now. Still have time before I'm ready to buy. Prob over the winter or next spring. Sure there will be 2023s coming out soon with different parts packages to wrap my head around. 🤯 😂
Thanks again for the reply. Sure I'll have more questions as time goes on.
Ride On!
Looks like your dropper post cable is fraying right near your new PNW lever, but im sure you knew that.
hahaha yeah, it was frayed before I put the new lever on and I was too lazy to put the new cable in 😂 but thanks for the heads up
I know you posted this a while back but can I ask if upgrading the rear shock made a noticeable difference? I have the same bike and am interested in upgrading to a DPX2 but wonder if the bang for buck is going to be there. I think the DPS is great for what it is, is the DPX2 $750 better?
I got the 2021 dpx2 PE brand new for $350 due to a pricing error, I think the slow speed compression made a huge difference to how the bike pedals but downhill wise, didn't notice a big difference. If I had to pay full price, I don't think I would do it.
@@MidWestMTB How good are pricing errors lol. Yep, I agree. If I could get it for that price I would have gone ahead with it too.
I have some great experience with the Shimano deore m6120 and SLX 7120 brakes. Both have been great. I can’t recommend magura or sram brakes cause I’ve never used them.
I would suggest you to go Shimano and make the integration of the shifter with the brake lever using the I spec ev. Makes the cockpit looks really better.
Yeah, I was thinking about that actually! Might end up going with the deores.
If you want to change your brakes go with Shimano Dora 4 pot pistons I guarantee you'll have all the power Under the Sun could I have them on my nukeproof Mega and they are good sorry brilliant on the defence
TRP DHR II, the most powerful (same power than Sram Code RSC's, MagurasMT7)
Thanks man, I really like the look of those too
How much does this bike weigh kitted out like this?
I haven't weighed it but it feels really close to my Sentinel thats at 32lbs so I'd assume somewhere between 32-35lbs
I just got the Shimano Deore XT great brakes
Thanks man!
I just noticed your title. Where are you at in the MidWest. I have lived in Oklahoma and Missouri. I wish I was still there.
By the way I gave those XT brakes a work out today on some double black diamond trails they are Phenomenal.
So what else did you keep by side the frame 😅
hahaha not much!
the song on this video is sick. what is it??
Did you use a center lock to 6 bolt adapter for the new rotors?
He has the RT81 rotors but listed the wrong part number.
What front mud guard is that?
It’s from dakine, just your standard plastic zip tied mudguard
Good video but bro turn down the backing track, when editing use headphones, it's overpowers what you are saying.
Haha yeah everyone’s been saying that, strangely enough it’s not loud at all on my end on any device
Sounds like the Siskiu N9 would of been a good
My thought too. Basically an N9 with SLX
Yeah, I think if I were to go back in time I would pick up an N9!
Hey mate what spacer do i need to go 203mm front rotor on my t8?
Hey bud, not sure on the fox 34. Shimano makes it very difficult to find the right adapter. I THINK you need the F203 p/p but I'm not 100% sure.
How much did all the upgrades cost???
Not that much, after selling the parts that came with the bike it was probably a few hundred for everything.
Nice video but music is too loud
Orbea alma here is so expensive
bruh I can hardly hear you over that loud schidtie music
I'm sorry bud! Do you want me to look for ENT's near you? Might be time for a check up
