- Join us in the garage as we delve into the highs and lows of the Polygon Siskiu T9 mountain bike. In this in-depth video, we address some critical issues holding back this otherwise stellar ride, and implement key upgrades to elevate its performance to new heights.
At the heart of the matter lies a compromise common in the industry: while Polygon manages to keep costs down, certain components suffer. The stock setup, while featuring top-notch Fox suspension and TRP DHR EVO brakes, falls short in the tire and wheel department.
We dive straight into the problem, discussing the drawbacks of the heavy wheel setup and lackluster tires that come stock with the bike. But fear not, as we unveil three transformative upgrades that will unleash the full potential of the Polygon Siskiu T9.
First on the agenda is shedding weight and enhancing durability by converting to a tubeless setup. We explore the benefits and ease of this conversion, laying out the steps and costs involved.
Next, we tackle the issue of traction and performance with a tire upgrade. Say goodbye to the stock Maxxis Assegai tires, and hello to the improved grip and agility of Pirelli Scorpion tires.
But the transformation doesn't stop there. We address the Achilles' heel of the stock Entity wheels, opting for a more affordable yet high-performance alternative in the form of Hunt trail wide wheels. We delve into the specs and installation process, showcasing the potential impact on the bike's overall performance.
Join us on the trails as we put these upgrades to the test, tackling the Nighthawk trail to assess the bike's newfound capabilities. We provide honest feedback on the performance of each upgrade, revealing whether our efforts have truly made the Polygon Siskiu T9 a force to be reckoned with.
Don't miss out on the full breakdown of our experience and recommendations for future upgrades. Hit subscribe and stay tuned for more insights and adventures with the Polygon Siskiu T9.

This was a great video and a lot of help.
Thank you for the feedback 👍
I went with the exact same Hunt wheels for my T8, world of difference - new bike! Enjoy it. I got my T8 down from 36lbs to 32lbs now.
Heck yeah 👍
My Canyone Stoic HT also came with a heavy/cheap wheel set. I replaced them with some wheels I had from other bikes and also replaced the Schwalbe tires with some Rekon Race (tan) so it's a better 'cruiser' bike for XC and urban riding. Made a HUGE difference.
Heck yeah. Reducing that wheel weight makes such a difference 👍
Carbon bar and saddle. You’ve got yours similarly spec’ed to mine… shaved a ton of weight with wheels tires and tubes.
I threw a deity carbon bar and a wolf tooth dropped lever on and it’s great…. I just can’t get comfortable on the saddle which is my next change, then I’ll be done tinkering. Great videos and keep making great content!
I’ve got some more upgrades I’m working on this weekend. Upgrade addiction is kicking in 😬 lol
I love your T9 videos I wish I could contact bikes online and tell them to give you the credit you were 1 of my deciding factors for purchasing the T9 keep up the videos I’m working on changing tires and going tubeless next I’ve only had the bike for a week now and I love it
Thank you so much for leaving the feedback. It truly helps 👍 I’ll forward this message on to BikesOnline.
It was in the plans for me (colossus) but I spent a shit ton on my aurum DH beast mullet project and just scored a Banshee frame, priorities 😂
I’m interested in the T9 for my next bike, and when I seen the wheel specs I already thought that those Hunt’s you got would be perfect. Then I seen this video. Good looking bike.
@@tymothyallen5392 thanks man! Hunt wheels have been holding up amazing and I’ve been riding some gnarly, rocky trails with them.
I too went with the Trailwide V2’s last year and they’ve been fantastic for the money!
Awesome! Glad to hear other people liking them. I really just got them for the price and I’m hoping they’ll hold up in the long run.
What freehub is on the siskiu, HG?
Cool video. I'm considering buying a polygon t8 or 9. I'll definitely consider these upgrades.
I think T9 is worth every penny.
That's a nice wheel upgrade! I actually did something quite sinilar but with a Spank wheelset. Definitely some of the most important parts of the bike.
Cranks are also a great way to cut some weight, just bought a shimano slx crankset with an aftermarket cnc chainring, 590g! My budget xc hardtail weighs just above 11kg while still having 4 pot trp dhr evo brakes, 2.3mm rotors and slack geo. Descending is not as scary anymore, a life changer
Nice. I love my TRP brakes.
Great video really enjoyed it great job 👍😎🤘
Thank you for taking time ti leave the feedback 👍
Great content. I smashed the like button. Another possible upgrade for weight savings could be the cassette, 12 speeds is kind of over kill for most riders and stainless steel is heavier.
Great point. I think a cassette is something I’d upgrade when the Deore cassette wears out. But I’d be hesitant to go to an 11 speed. We have some steep climbs here in Oregon.
Awesome upgrades! I did the same with my YT Izzo and went from 29.3lbs to 27.5lbs. It is not as huge a difference as you, but I come from a XC racing background and love a light, efficient climber.
Awesome man. Sounds like you made that Izzo amazing
Glad to help.
Thank you 👍
Trail one bars, stem and grips. Maybe an XT cassette but I’d call it after that. Great video Jared.
Thanks for the feedback. I’ve definitely got a few more upgrade in store for this bike. But I always take it too far with the upgrades 😬 lol
Upgrade addiction maybe 🤷🏼♂️
Trust me, I get it. Bike is just about done after rims and tires. Just contact points after that IMO
I put those Hunt Trail Wide tires on my hardtail and they've been pretty awesome.
Nice 👍 I’m really liking these wheels been riding them hard and they’re holding up great
I've had some Hunt Trail Wide V1 wheels for three years now and they've been rock solid. Been through three sets of rear hub bearings and one freehub. Customer service is ace. It's usually wet and gritty here in the UK so the bearings get a hard life. The rims are good as new. They've taken everything I've thrown at them. Can't grumble especially as I only paid about £300 for the pair.
Glad to hear that these wheels hold up over time and Hunt has great customer service. Thanks for leaving the comment 👍
I have the t8 with fox factory 36 and float x. Went full shimano xt drivetrain and brakes(with 203mm xtr rotors) put on the Hunt Proven UD cardon rims. Then a 50mm nukeproof stem with pnw loam carbon bars and pnw grips.
The tires l went with is 2.5 assegai 3c exo+ front and 2.4 dhr ii 3c exo+ rear. Wrb koda titanium seat and 1up dropper post. Went with a Cane Creek Hellbender head set. The bike is a BEAST.
I do wish l had the t9 color but the purple isnt to bad.
Sounds like a beast 🤘 Heck yeah!
Nice! Useful
@@curtbrown7967 thanks 🙏🏻
I upgradet my Carbon Stumpjumper Comp the same way ( 14.1 kg, 31 lb and 1.36 ounces with pedals) but went with the Elitewheel pro 36 (550 Euro) new tyres and so e other small changes. And the weight is now 12.9Kg ( 28 lb and 7 ounces).
It is completly different Bike now and I know exactly what you mean.
Cheers from Switzerland
Cheers man 👍 Sounds like you got an amazing bike.
I'm really lucky to have my riftzone 3 27.5" but that t9 in the green looks sweet
Nice 👍
Been running the hunts for awhile!!! They have a great warranty as well with them. Even paid for my local LBS to repair the failed wheel so i wouldn't have to wait on shipping it.
What happed with the wheel failure?
@@JaredHoff the rear axle broke right at hub and cassette. Causing it to rub through the spokes. Hunt overnighted al the parts to me and the LBS respoked the wheel.
@@JaredHoff it snapped the axle right at the hub and cassette causing it to rub the spokes before i caught it. They overnighted all the parts so i could take to the LBS to get it relaced with the needed spokes. They reimbursed me for this work.
I do agree with him.
BUT only if you are a racer.
Most average bikers could do with losing 5-10kgs and someone like me could do with losing 20+ 😂 I know the extra weight still hurts but if I dropped those kilos it would be barely, if at all, noticeable.
I hear ya! Upgrades are such a personal preference. But weight is t equal. Wheel weight makes a way bigger difference than almost anywhere else.
@@JaredHoff I can't argue. I've just upgraded my sons d5 drivetrain and crankset to a 1x10 so its lighter for him. And want to do the wheels and fork for him (he is 11 so will get 4-5 years out of it at least) but I have to say he loves his d5 but doing the upgrades is such a pain for someone like me who knows nothing about the tech.
The absolute mither I would have to go through to put a decent fork on. Apparently it's a tapered headset but most forks won't work because of the wheelset isn't compatible. 😂
By the Size of those Rocks, I can clearly see myself getting out balanced right after 3-4 kicks. In fact I got injured last week due to a heavy down pour and it took me flying 2-3 feet off my bike, my knee still hurts a little bit right now but definitely healing quickly.
Glad you’re healing up man.
@@JaredHoff My Brakes betrayed me.
Just clarification, white maxxis tires are not different. You can get 3C MaxxTerra Exo+ etc with a white logo, exact same thing. Really good recommendations on the wheels /tires in general
@@jkostans thanks man. I should have clarified that
I really like the Michelin DH casing I have a very high level of confidence in them you can't fault traction, people say they are heavy but every time I get on a demo or rental with flimsy casing tires and hard rubber I confirm my choice to ride a DH tire all round... 😅
Nice! I know a lot of people who like a DH casing for that exact reason.
16:21 Maybe inserts and higher pressure would help? Cush Core definitely saves the rim from from riding over stuff, but won't save you from landing hard on something from a drop, like a rock or steel well, or broken fence or something like that.
I don’t like Cushcore due to the rotational weight penalty but I also don’t ding rims very much if ever. Knock on wood lol
@@JaredHoff it's not really super heavy, so I didn't mind anyway. In my hands they feel super light. But I forgot the weight. But don't care. But nice to not bend the rim bead.
Exo dual ply maxxis are fine. Sure they’re heavier, but they last longer and they’re typically cheaper, or on sale. Love me some dual plys. Just use two DHR 2.4/2.5s and when your rear wears out, move the front to the back. Rinse and repeat. (Of course if you’re not running mullet setup)
The dirt we have here is a very loose over hard pack corners and steep technical rock sections. Max Terra or even Maxx Grip is preferred
Upgraded to hunt enduro wide on my 2020 trance. Quite like them and its been 2yrs now. Im thinking of getting my son their trail wides for his sisku. What really bugs me on his bike is the slow engagement. Plus when you compress the bike it makes a clunking sound which comes from that play in the hub.
Glad to hear a long term review on Hunt wheels. I do have concerns with how they’ll hold up over time.
People from the Facebook group:
What cracked?
But on a more serious note I'm curious how the new Polygon frames hold up. As I saw every full suspension model crack somewhere on the previous models. But the seat tube gusset design on this one is good it seems, not making a stress raiser. But not sure why some had top tube crack in front of the head tube, nor why chain stays cracked.
I’m definitely pushing this bike to its limit so I guess we’ll see if it cracks or not. I’m not sponsored by polygon. Bikes online is amazing. They send me these bikes, but I’ll definitely be 100% honest if I run into any issues.
Always break the stock wheels so upgrading when that happens is what I do. I mostly ride dh/bike park and wheels are the first thing to go
Upgrading as you wear out or break stuff is a smart way to go 👍
Maybe not an upgrade per se, but how about an update on those hunt wheels after putting them through a period of use with how well that upgrade does over time.
I will definitely do a long-term review on the Hunt Bike Wheels. Thanks for the feedback.
Looking at those Hunt wheels also.. what was the specs on the wheels... does the T9 come with a center-lock option? or standard 6 bolt attachment?
T9 came with a center lock. I prefer 6 bolt, but I’m stoked on the wheels. They made such a HUGE improvement
I am in between this bike and the YT Jeffsy Core 2. I am in NC where there are some bike parks, but mostly trails with some DH sections with some jumps. What are your thoughts in direct comparison between these 2 bikes?
YT Jeffsy Core 2 has a little bit more travel so probably feels slightly better on those DH runs. BUT the T9 comes with a better parts spec. I’m currently working on an upgrade video where I put a 150mm fork on my T9.
I think the T9 with a 150mm damper upgrade would be perfect for you if you’re okay upgrading. YT Jeffsy is a solid choice though so you’ll be happy with that as well.
@JaredHoff thank you! Honestly I can save $300 on the polygon and use that to upgrade a couple of parts like the wheels you purchased. I'm not too worried about resale value because I will be keeping this bike for years ahead. Reason why I wanted to get something that's ready to go without major upgrades. Great video!
If all it needed was tubeless conversion and better tires, then that bike is very close to perfect!!
The wheels made a huge difference. I’ve got some more upgrades coming for this bike. Upgrade addiction is kicking in 😬 lol
Which freehub did you choose on the Hunts? Shimano microspline?
Yes. Shimano micro spline.
With center lock rotors because that’s what the T9 already had and I didn’t want to have to get new 6-Bolt TRP rotors.
OEM doesn’t mean they’re dual compound. I have a set with 3C EXO+. Just your specific case
Thanks for clarifying. I’ve had 3 different sets of white label Maxxis tires all 3 were dual compound EXO.
Does it say 3C on your white label tires?
I'm curious about the Pirelli tyres, I've heard great things about their car tyres, but that doesn't mean their MTB tyres are good. But won't be a surprise.
I love the Pirelli scorpion tires, but I love a lot of tires these days. Too many good options and it’s always confusing getting used to a new brands casing, compound, tread lingo 😬
@@JaredHoff How long did you have the Scorpion tyres? I'm curious how the bead durability is. On par with Michelin and Schwalbe? Or will it look like you used sandpaper on it after few months and fail in 4 to 6 months like Maxxis? Michelin looks like new to the end of the tyre's life. I've not tried the summer tyres from Schwalbe, but the Ice Spiker performed quite well.
They should change the design of the chainstay from the left side, instead of going straight to the wheel I would like it to be a little bit bent down around the bottom bracket. It would make the frame look more professional
🤔 That could look good.
@@JaredHoff It would. Like most enduro bikes.
You gonna make bentonville bikefest?
I wish I could. I’m a single dad with 4 kids so it’s hard to travel at times
@JaredHoff understandable.
Wow, single dad with 4 Kids!
Every moment on the Bike must feel like meditation 😁
Is there a link to the carbon wheels?
Here you go:

@JaredHoff what was weight of stock wheels?
But the statement about OEM tires is simply wrong.
Yes, white is OEM, but OEM does not mean cheap, nor does it necessarily mean dual compound.
I had (and have) a lot of OEM Maxxis tires (on Canyon Torque, Vitus Sommet) and these are Maxx Terra/Grip EXO+/DD tires, absolutely identical to the retail tires.
@@LethWinchester that’s good to know. Every white label Maxxis tire I’ve seen is a dual compound EXO casing.
Trail rides without tire insert is dangerous for the rim. I always use.
I come from a BMX background so I’m pretty good at floating over the rocky sections and choosing my lines wisely. I’ve never dented rims but inserts are a great option if I ever start denting rims
Wtb vigilante/ trail boss. 2.5/2.4.
Nice 👍
They also put a cheap hubs.
Scoop the sealant out with the lid of a spray can first.
That’s definitely a hat I should have done 👍
i taught you are Patrick Wilson
I’m not sure what that is 🤷🏼♂️
Be careful tossing maxxis tires just because they have white logos. The white logo assegais that came with my yt are indeed 3C and are dd casing. I don’t think the white logo means they are crap, only that they are sold directly to bike manufacturers. But they can come in any compound and casing.
Good to know. I’ve only ever seen the white logo ones in Dual compound and EXO casing which is what these are.
You can feel the lack of grip on the. But dual compound does last longer so I guess there’s that 🤷🏼♂️
It’s 33lbs and 15/16 ounces. You probably one of those people that think $19.99 is way cheaper than $20
Lighten up that cassette and go with an absolute black oval chainring. You want regret it
@@beardedtrucker thanks for the advice 👍
@@JaredHoff no problem. I noticed a big difference and it balanced my bike a lot and noticed it on the climbs.
Polygon 😂
boat anchor
? It’s not “serious problems” it’s low spec. You know what you’re getting. So how is this a problem. You knew from day one that stock wheels are heavy. I guess this is how you “content creator” guys make a living. Always swapping parts, tweaking on bikes. Not a bad job. But cmon. Don’t say it’s a serious problem. Kinda clickbait junk. I thought you might of found/had a serious problem. Not a tweaking issue.
Sorry that this made you so frustrated. That’s definitely not what I was going for.
@@JaredHoff it’s just I’m really thinking about this bike and other than you and a few others. Their really isn’t much out their in the way of reviews about this bike. That’s why I look to you for info. I did honestly think you had a legit issue. (Bearings, creaks, clearance issues, etc) btw. That Rick garden is legit. Those hunt wheels didn’t look like they were deflecting too bad. Alloy is a bit softer / more compliant than carbon. I’m in the same situation. If I do get this bike the wheels are gone. But I have a set of nobl tr37’s. A bit overkill for a “trail bike” but much lighter than stock. And putting in my Xt drivetrain with medium rear derailer & 10-45 cassette nice and tidy.
I don’t think those upgrades will make a difference to the performance of your bike it’s all in your head and that’s what most people don’t understand
I remember thinking the same thing until I started testing wheels back to back. It makes such a BIG difference. Hopefully you’re able to test out some high end, lightweight wheels someday. It’s a game changer.
But I get what you’re saying.
@@JaredHoffi do agree, upgrading wheelsets will make a massive difference.
You can most definitely feel a 4 lb. reduction of rotating weight, especially climbing and acceleration.
Awe man a wheel upgrade can make a huge difference!
Upgrading your wheelset makes a massive improvement in performance. I can vouch for this firsthand.
Trashcan bike for sure
Problem is it's a polygon Asian crap
I disagree but I remember being really surprised the first time I rode a Polygon with how good it was. But it’s not about what I like. Ride whatever gets you stoked to go ride and have fun 👍
Bro, you bought a polygon what did you expect. Buy a real Bike next time.
Oh man. That was harsh. I’ve been so happy with my Polygon bikes, but understand your comment if you’ve never rode one
Polygons are "real" mountain bikes. They're just less expensive then the ones rich people (less than 1% of the population) buys by cutting a few corners.
Says the guy on a low spec Giant gtfo. Thats barely a “real bike”
@@JaredHoff polygon is a real bike... Haters have no idea what they're talking about 😡
Serious rock 🪨 garden 🪴 nice upgrades, thanks 🙏 for the info. Perfect trai Bike is my yt Jeffsy 29 al, fast, strong 💪 light, playful, adjustable, mullet friendly and perfect around trail bike
Jeffsy is an amazing bike 👍
