I bought a set the year before Corey won the U.S. Open with them...I played to a 4 handicap and broke par with them once in my 50's but stopped played several year ago. My son has one of the newer sets of clubs from Taylor made and after taking my clubs to the range one day he now plays with the VAS clubs and says he likes them better. They are excellent clubs
Great to see the massive ability of The Swing Guru / Doctor. He could play with a broom handle and mop and still shoot par!! Love the Ping putter - thinking about trying to buy one
Most underrated clubs of all time. Been using mine for 30 years. The looks is what everyone always talking about but when they hit them, their minds start to change.
I not only would use them, I used to have a set and loved them. Straightest hitting irons I've ever played with; no exceptions. I had too many clubs so I got rid of them but that was a mistake. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. That 8 iron Mr Barlow hit in close was no fluke; reminded me of how I played with them. I just bought a set of GBB tungsten titanium irons and after watching your video I'm wishing I had gone back to the VAS 792's instead. Loved the video! Keep the laughs coming! Golf Mates videos are the highlight of my day. I look forward to every new video! Thanks mates!
I own a complete set of the irons with graphite shafts. Like an old suit they will come back into style. Someone markets a wedge set that looks just like them.
@@GolfMates yes mate, all is well. We have been lucky enough to be playing golf as close to normal as we can. Hope you guys enjoy golf from Wednesday. Some great vlogs from Tenerife. I loved Costa Adeji when I was there. Keep up the good work. Hopefully see you on a golf course somewhere in the New Year.
Beginner golfer here and I have a full set of these (3-9 + PW) as part of my hand-me-down set. They ain’t pretty, but they’re doing me well in my learning experience.
It was my 1st set too. I’ve been playing for 5 years now. I’ve been through every wedge you can possibly think of and for the pitching wedge and the lob wedge I ended up coming back to these for those two clubs but they were great clubs are accurate
Great idea for video Liam! I clearly remember this clubs and Corey Pavin winning US Open@ Shinnecock with them over Greg Norman! Heavy Ballesteros played a FANTASTIC 8 iron on that par 3 and he should consider the PW for chipping as he hit a great chip on your 3rd hole! That chip of "Spanish Hands" on first hole with PW that was really a 1-iron was classic Mr. B!!
Think on the looks these clubs they could give you nightmares. But you both played well with them Mr Barlow always seems to do amazing when he plays with different clubs like tigers irons etc. Well played great video , keep safe and well golfmates
I've always loved the underdog, and I have an affinity for ugly ducklings! That being said, I enjoy the heck out of my set...especially the faces of my companions when I show up with them in my bag! When I hit good shots I get to explain how they are THE MOST streamlined club ever made; how in 100,000 years aliens will be amazed at the advanced technology of the human race as evidenced by these incredible pieces of art; and how good it felt to hit it in the (gigantic) sweet spot! Of course - when they are not struck well (my normal shot) - my comment is, "Well, look at them!"
It just just to show you, it's the golfer, not the clubs! 😂😂😂😂 Mr. Barlow played okay with them....the 8 iron he hit on the Par 3 was excellent...nice 6 foot putt for birdie. The last hole, I thought you had a shotgun and were shooting at clay targets, and forgot to tell "Pull!" Great video as always when you and Mr. Barlow play!!
Hey Liam, They were very popular and very expensive. There were a couple of models. Matching woods and putters. There were many variations including Jerry Barber types. The best thing was if you could grow a moustache like Corey Pavin! That’s your next challenge- growing a moustache! Cheers
I remember a category one player buying a set of no shank irons in the late 70s or early 80s but couldn't remember what they were. The answer arrived in my head this morning. Slingers!
My late friend had a set of these. They did help his game (he was a newer golfer), but we always called them "his garden tools". I wonder if his widow still has them...
VAS stood for "vibration absorption system". That amounted to what the medallion logo on the back of the head was made from. It worked well and Callaway paid Cleveland to use the same material in the Big Bertha irons from the mid 90's.
I own these clubs and a set of Ping i3s. Both fine clubs, but I consistently score better with the Clevelands. They are just super easy to hit and accurate.
Wrong - they were revolutionary in 1995/6. I bought a set whilst in LA. You will change your mind after a few more holes, believe me. Loved that colourful Logo.
@@GolfMates Don't rightly know but I always have been a Cleveland fan ( I have their UHX irons in the bag at the moment) I suppose it was because they were the hot iron of the time with the Ping Zings and it was before I had the money to buy them!!) Weirdly I always liked the look of them (don't ask me why though.... LOL!!!)
I played with these clubs for years back in the late 90s early 2000s. Clubs are ugly but once you get by looks , they are absolutely pure. Easiest club I've ever had to square up to ball. Actually might get me another set . Great video
Never seen Mr Barlow hit an iron so well . Think he should steal those off you , I'd say buy but I rekon youve got more chance of platting fog than him parting with money
I bought a set of VAS irons when they first came out and played well with them. Still have them in the garage and thought about playing them again just for kicks.
If they were good enough for Corey Pavin they have to be good enough for Heavy Ballesteros and the Non Golfer!!! The views from the course look fabulous.
Totally off subject guys but on another channel some people were slagging you off lately saying you aren't as good as you used to be??😯 but I've only been following you for couple of months and I love what you do so take no notice and carry on what you're doing 👍😁
I traded in a set of the original Hogan Edge to purchase these back in the day. They were great. I moved on, foolishly, chasing one club design after another. It was years before anyone realized I need my clubs 2 degrees upright. I play single-length clubs now so I'm not interested in re-trying these. But it would be interesting.
Horrible club. But the world needs to know. When is the Orca Driver fitting. Understand the Covid restrictions but we’ve been waiting a long time. Can’t wait to see your numbers in a fitting. Keep it up
From Dr to Swing Guru 😂. Liam, maybe have Golfmates send you one club or loan you one club each to make a set to play with. Have a round with different brands.
My brother had a set of them and loved them!

Liam say"s "can you polish a turd?" and Mr. Barlow (aka: Heavy Ballesteros) say"s sure I can, absolutely hilarious.
Great intro. Clubs only a mother could love and only our very own nongolfer could shank. Lol
'You don't like a golfer, but you do alright'. Great line, nearly had coffee on living room carpet.
Look?
Those clubs may have looked different , but the boys proved they worked.
Absolutely
Boom Boom Barlow could make a broom stick look like a decent club! Thanks for the video. Cheers.
Brilliant camera work Joe with great views and content 👏
You two are Legends love watching your video. Keep it up GOLFMSTES can not wait for the next 👍
Thanks for watching
Great to see the massive ability of The Swing Guru / Doctor. He could play with a broom handle and mop and still shoot par!!

Nice to see you both, the video quality is fantastic.wish i was there ha.
It's comedy gold watching Liam aka (master of disaster) lol and scoopy woopy ste fun vids lads keep em coming boys thumbs up
Great to see you test those clubs. It’s not what they look like it’s how you use them. Lol 😆
Most underrated clubs of all time. Been using mine for 30 years. The looks is what everyone always talking about but when they hit them, their minds start to change.
Agreed
Good fun great to watch!
Would you use these golf clubs?? 😬 or do you think they are too ugly?
I’ve always said that performance comes before looks, but it turns out I have my limits. Did Stevie Wonder design them?
Not the prettiest girl at the dance, but Corey Pavin won a US Open with them, so they are obviously functional.

"Good player can play with any club" but that was the best Par 3 I ever see Mr. B played. lol
You can't polish a turd Liam but you can roll it in glitter. Great shot from Mr B there
Good to see the Dr playing well :)
He can play with any club 😂
Look like something you would poke the fire with. Great video again mates keep up the good work ⛳🏌️♀️
😂😂
What an amazing looking course. 😍😍
Good video, just goes to show you can play with any clubs!
Also the course looks fantastic!
Nice to see some sunshine on a foggy Scottish morning, thanks.

The way Mr Barlow sits in a buggy cracks me up.... Left butt cheek rolling like a gangster 17:56

I had a set and loved them.
I had a set of these! Loved them! Won a competition two weeks after buying them with 46 points.

great to see ya do a wee review guy's, nice vid.
Clubs are definitely interesting and I could not play with them. The views on this course are absolutely stunning.
Great clubs had them years ago with stiff shafts and loved them

Another great video

Ya but your decent player 👌
@@GolfMates gotta say Pavin was AMAZING with those bad boys. Like next level. 🤯🤯🤯🤯
Great stuff boys👍👍
Cheers Chris
Love to see them clubs in the hands of omp watch the master at work.
You and mr b done well though Liam 👏
Good shout OMP
My late friend had a set of these. They did help his game (he was a newer golfer), but we always called them "his garden tools". I wonder if his widow still has them...
Watched Charles Barkley on Friday, this Video was like a déjà vu 😂😂😂
😂
Always liked the look of them. Cleveland makes great clubs. No way to have a bad round playing a course like that.
It just proves that golfers are image conscious, personally I'd play with anything that helps my golf
VAS stood for "vibration absorption system". That amounted to what the medallion logo on the back of the head was made from. It worked well and Callaway paid Cleveland to use the same material in the Big Bertha irons from the mid 90's.
my bud had set of these 15 years ago. good clubs.
I hadn't heard of Cory, but I've heard of his brother..............Crazy!!. I'll get my coat
Leave the coat it was that bad
Those mikes are Bob on, when Steve was driving up to the buggy path on the last hole, sounded like a flock of goats moving on a Greek hillside
I own these clubs and a set of Ping i3s. Both fine clubs, but I consistently score better with the Clevelands. They are just super easy to hit and accurate.
Mr Barlow class of is own. 🤣🤣
My first set were petron impalas, my next were orange infinities. Did I buy the only sets of these?
Definitely got a face only a mother could love 🤣🤣🤣
They look like a Junkys spoon! 😱😱😱🤣🤣🤣
Abama Golf Club, Spain i sso beautiful, trust that you should have given it more credit.
Those clubs were and are FUGLY. But I would play with garden tools if they did the job. That was a fun vid.
Awesome irons I used them for about 9 years
liam what are your thoughts on golf mates travel next year,,?
No crystal ball. But expecting more stay cations at home & let's hope holiday travel restarts in some way but only once safer to do so!
I LOVED MINE AND PLAYED THEM FOR ABOUT 12 YEARS
Good video lads
A good swing, good contact on the sweet spot = a good shot.
Best golf I've seen from you for ages Liam lol. Match these clubs with ping zing 2 irons, another ugly club but I love them. Recently brought a set.
Golden oldies 😂👍
I'd like to see OMP hit these , Great Lob Thanks !
Wrong - they were revolutionary in 1995/6. I bought a set whilst in LA. You will change your mind after a few more holes, believe me. Loved that colourful Logo.
Well done again Mr Barlow 👍🏻
Thanks Peter
Always wanted a set of those!!!!
Did you. Why?

Was going to say the same thing. I bought a set on EBay a few years ago. When you put the club behind the ball they just naturally square up.
Imposible to rate an iron that won a major the worst rated golf club!
Steve would be crazy not to give them a few rounds
he's been fitted with his own clubs although he did strike them well!
What a great shot for mr Barlow with that 8 iron.
9 iron all day for me, but I would never get it that close.

He wouldn't pay me lol
I really wanted a set of these at the time!
Expensive?
"we are two normal golfers" 😂😂😂 never have been. Special, funny, great banter. None golfer and the doctor what a duo. Brill lads.
Abnormal lol. Thank you for watching
The golf doctor. AKA the guru
😂😂😂
Love the videos keep them coming.
The swing guru can play with anything, like OMP he can adapt. 😂😂😂
Us Open on one of the hardest courses in the world in the wind. It's never the brush it's the artist 💯💯💯
Mr Barlow has more Bull than Cow has Udder lol
that third hole you played looked like a green screen effect when you were on the tee. It's almost too nice heh. Great shot by the swing doctor though
Still visually one of your best videos
I bought a set of VAS irons when they first came out and played well with them. Still have them in the garage and thought about playing them again just for kicks.
Great video lads 👍 I really fancy Tenerife it looks mega
Nice one
Does give them to mr Barlow you'll never win any fivers🤣🤣🤣
Irons seem to have amazing height and sound good, Steve also hit the TW irons very well.
If they were good enough for Corey Pavin they have to be good enough for Heavy Ballesteros and the Non Golfer!!! The views from the course look fabulous.
Stunning views. Very true about clubs
What a beautiful course! I found some VAS clubs at a garage sale. I hit them fine, but not as good as my DCIs.
Good stuff
I couldn't remember my first clubs until you mentioned regal!! They were mine! Quality set Mr Barlow 🙈Full set bag and trolley from Makro £100.
Love it!!
I wanted to see Mr Barlow's birdie dance but no boom baby. Worst rated clubs or not you both did ok with them.
They fine. All about playing with mates 😂👍
Id like to see a full round with them but you also use your own woods .
