  • A deep look into Geno Smith's performance these past two seasons. While dealing with a variety of issues outside of his control, Geno has been a steadying force on the offense, and deserving of more praise. Whether dealing with an onslaught of pressure or needing to orchestrate a game winning drive, Geno has played the position at a high level.

    Okay, wow, not sure what to say here but THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR DOING THIS VIDEO!!! ....yeah, 100% again, LOVED the film work and literally remembered each of those plays AND remember my jaw dropping on this too! lol ...Geno is a BALLER! ..and a VERY GOOD QUARTERBACK! ...in fact, honestlyl, he's been balling out since Russ went down and no one wants to give him credit for those 3.5 games he played in because we lost I think 3 of them, one was against Pittsburgh where Geno got shoestring tackled by the TJ Watt, who just happened to win DPOTY that year, on the last play of the last drive that ended the game, but as we've seen since, and as YOU just made very clear with actual data, Geno is absolutely game winning drive grinder! But, despite those losses, Geno's stats were off the charts, especially Com %, wihch identified his extreme accuracy. You KNOW that's why Russ rushed himself coming back as Geno was earning his Tom Brady moment.
    And yeah, I have to deal with these ridiculous Geno haters all the time too and it drives me nuts,. While they clearly don't understand ball, it's really more of that ego thing you mentioned and these are the people who keep the aliens from visting us, man.
    I'm definitely not here to promote my blog and just love your casts, but I write for the same reason that you make these videos. I know you make a little cash from it, but it's obvious you do it because you love it, and that's why I write (besides, some would say I have a face for radio lol), So I'm going to drop a couple links here to my blog that I wrote 2 years ago when he was in that so called "QB competition" with Lock, which was really no contest at, and had to field all the same ridiculous arguments about Geno sucking that you just went over. Hope it's okay, and would love to hear your input, eh? Literally, except for where we differ on DK (and I stand by all of that), I constantly finding myself sitting here nodding to virtually all of your points, and love to learn the stuff I didn't know from you, as well.

    GENO! I believe geno will ball this season. I’ve seen all I need to see, throwing the deep ball to Tyler for a tud, or a goal line game winner. To a 15 yard dime to DK putting him into position to house it. Being as good as he has been behind our line, like you said he’s weathering the storm.

    I had one knock on Geno early in his first season and that was he wasn’t stepping into the pocket and was taking drive killing sacks deep in the backfield as a result. He more than addressed that by last year and as your first tables touched on was actually elite under pressure. He could have definitely won a Super Bowl with our 2005 offensive line or our 2013 defense. It’s such an empty argument to say that he just can’t win a SB in the future.

    The numbers say Geno is a top 10-12 QB. Give him an at least decent/serviceable o line and he'll probably lead the league in percentage again. He'll have a TD:INT of at least 3 and he'll lead us to multiple game winners.

    As someone who 3-4 years ago would’ve laughed at the idea of him being our starting qb….he has been one of the furthest things from what has been keeping us from being a contender. He’s been a top 10-12 qb last 2 seasons. Yes he has weapons. But his o line has been trash and offensive scheme has been suspect. I think he bounces back to be a top 10 qb and has a middle of the pack defense and run game. Dude throws an insane deep ball. Be careful what you wish for. Russell was the best qb in his prime in Seahawks history. But in their current states I’d take Geno

    I am going to keep on giving you credit Brandon on your Geno video before he had even 1 start as the full-time starter every time this conversation comes up. I was about 65-70% sure we would see Drew Lock as the starter around week 5. That obviously didn't happen, and for good reason!
    I think the Geno haters are just comparing him to Prime Team 3, where not many QBs can compare to that. Geno is a much different type of QB that can easily win a SB under the right circumstances, like a lot of good QBs.

  • @jordan3305
    @jordan3305 Місяць тому +1

    If we have an oline that ranks within the 17-14 range and can consistently run block, you will see Geno in the 4500-4700 passing yards and 35-45 TD range (this all depends on how fast they learn the system and if it can translate to the NFL). People that keep saying Geno isn’t the guy had their mind set when he was a back up for Wilson unfortunately.

      @chrisolson719 Місяць тому

      Because he’s a system QB. If everything is perfect, his jersey is clean he’s top 10. Yet if it’s not and there’s pressure and he’s behind & he has to make plays; we lose.

    Too many people fall under the assumption you have to have a Tom Brady or Patrick Mahomes to win a SB. It’s not true. A good QB with the right situation can win you a SB. It’s perfectly fine to look toward the future, Geno is the perfect QB for that, but people shouldn’t be discrediting his ability just because he isn’t Mahomes.

    I'm sorry thinking about it no qb gets a great oline and running game, plus a top ten defense and top flight head coach with adaptive and creative scheme. I try to get into Schneider brain and I feel that if I was me is that I would keep an eye towards a great qb that fits Grubb scheme. I feel geno gets the job done and howell could be the young upside qb that can get the job done. But I want to say you aren't going to have a prefect situation and he could still do 4600 and 40 td and still go 9 and 8. Winning matter and geno need to show me that but it concerning his age is mid 30s but I will admit I'm wrong because I thought he was one of the worst qbs in the league. Now I feel he is above average maybe Grubb scheme will put him at good to great

    • @thehawksnestclips
      @thehawksnestclips  Місяць тому

      Great points, Thomas, and I do think the drive to get that QB of the future is coming soon. Just to make sure I was being clear, I'm not saying Geno needs to be provided with perfection around him. In those points you've mentioned off the top, he's had none of those things. Bringing items like pass protection, running game use, creativeness of scheme, targeting the middle up from last in the league could go a long way to increased production, and better play from the offense as a whole. Part of the theoretical benefit from having a quarterback who ends up 15th highest paid in the league is you can build up a better overall supporting team. We'll see how it plays out. If he goes good to great, I think we've got to roll with him going forward.

      I'm not sure I understand the correlation between those calling people fake fans and and those calling other fans Geno haters. I'm with you 100% on people calling others fans fake - that is BS and I'm not saying that in this video, but when it comes to the Geno discussion, as I laid out in my video, when after two years of doing weekly shows I ask for sound arguments for why Geno isn't better than a segment of the fanbase wants to give him credit for, and hear no responses back of any substance, it starts to feel like hating. I presented 42 minutes of different points and data showing he is more than the serviceable quarterback you're presenting. When the other side of the debate doesn't offer much other than 'he's just not it', again, it starts to feeling like unduly hating or maybe a better way to put it, missing the boat on very good quarterback play. I could be off on this, Ryan, it just a bit of the frustration of two years of this kind of discourse.

      @@thehawksnestclips First I want to tell you I appreciate the videos you make and the time and effort you put into the team and the fanbase. I've always enjoyed hearing your points of view, and I appreciate the response.
      The reason I posted here is that this discussion is as old and stale as a Pete Carroll team on 3rd down 😂
      I'm okay with Geno as a bridge QB, I would disagree with anyone telling us he is more than that tho.
      While his numbers are decent no one talks about his 33 turnovers in 32 games. In fact in his whole career if you add his passing and rushing totals and compare them to his interceptions and fumbles, it's something like 95 TD and 92 turnovers. He has been on multiple teams with different coaches, scouts, offensive lines, coordinators, and weapons. I get it, the guy has played decent a few seasons. As I stated before, he will be out starter most likely a few seasons. The problem those of who question Geno Smith as the long term selection is he is 30+ and it seems he is still figuring himself out as a starting QB.
      We were all told how awful Carr, Minshew, Mayfield and others were by much of the streaming insiders and they go out and have better seasons.
      Even my wife who watches football but doesn't know the Xs and Os just randomly said to me one day, "the offense looks sluggish with Geno as the QB and he looks like he is rigid. Like he is trying too hard to not make a mistake."
      The problem those of us face who mention the "other stats" on Geno is people start name calling and take a side. Even had a fan try to tell me, "Josh Allen has more turnovers than Geno." My response was how can you even compare those two? Josh Allen contributes 40+ TDsto his team a year 😂
      I could go on but I won't.
      Just giving a response and I appreciate your Brandon.
      Go Hawks!

    Pretty simple argument: what are Genos best wins ? How many winning teams has he beaten? How many playoff wins?

    • @thehawksnestclips
      @thehawksnestclips  Місяць тому +2

      I don't know why the argument is so simple for you in this way. It's a team sport, not an individual one. How do you take a 53 man roster and say one player is then responsible for winning or not. In regards to the lack of playoff wins, did you feel he played badly in that San Francisco loss? Or perhaps maybe it was our defense didn't get a single stop that day. Chris, I think when we're talking about this evaluation it should never come down to a simple singular point, consider all the points of data, consider all the angles. Trying to simplify may make it easier to categorize but it doesn't make it an accurate assessment of the situation.

      Where would you have had Russell Wilson rated verse the rest of the quarterbacks in the NFL when the Seahawks went to back to back Super Bowls? Certainly not Top Five. Years later he got to that stop for a couple of years, but not in 2013 or 2014. If the Seahawks could have less than a superstar at the position before and get two Super Bowls, why not again?

    • @Garsia95
      @Garsia95 Місяць тому

      @thehawksnestclips you mean that time they had a generational defense? Also, during that time, russ was a rookie who ended up being a top 5 qb for several years. The thing is, they don't got the L.O.B no more and we may never see a defense that dominant ever again.
      I like geno, i swear, and I hope he does well this season, but I'm not blinded by the numbers or narrative on him he's just not that guy? And he will never be that guy until he proves it in January football.
      Russ had average numbers during those super bowl runs but he had it and we could all see it evan in that loss too Atlanta he showed he had it. Geno has nothing to hang his coat on, no wins vs. 9ers, no playoff wins. What's his biggest achievement scoring the most touchdowns last year in the nfc when the nfc sucked last year? Just answer this other than the lions game last year whats his best win?

    • @thehawksnestclips
      @thehawksnestclips  Місяць тому +1

      @@Garsia95 So it was the generational defense on its own that won the Super Bowl? The highest paid offensive line in the sport, Marshawn Lynch's contributions, Russ' contributions, it was just that defense? And as you said, and I was pointing out Russ wasn't a Top Five quarterback when you went to those Super Bowls.
      Part of the reason you could build the defense so strongly, pay guys like Bennett and Avril, and afford to pay Marshawn is your quarterback wasn't taking up hardly any of the cap, but he indeed was a game manager at that time with excellent mobility. I agree when you said he eventually became Top Five, but not during that run, and not close.
      My whole point on this debate is the quarterback does not ride on high, so when you ask who has he beaten, the team has just gone through a two year rebuild, the team just fired their coach because he wasn't getting it done, the defense has sucked, the offensive line has been miserable. But he's supposed to go out and beat those teams all on his own? Aren't 53 other players on the roster? The playoff game in 2022 he was scoring on every position but then the defense was allowing San Fran to score on every position. Is he responsible for their lack of stopping anyone over these past two years, or the fact they can't get off the field? I highly disagree with the sentiment a quarterback success comes down to who "they've beaten". It's a team sport, not individual one, but I think that's at the heart of our disagreement.
