  • What began as a camp on the Roman Empire’s frontiers in 6AD under Emperor Augustus flourished into a city of 50,000 inhabitants at its peak. From it’s humble beginnings, Carnuntum eventually grew into the capital of the Roman province of Pannonia Superior, but then fell to the Huns in 433AD. In this episode, we explore the ruins and museum of the ancient Roman city of Carnuntum, which is today situated in the region of Lower Austria (Niederösterreich) near the border with Slovakia.
