  • Ever since he picked up this 1969 Mustang 302 Fastback in 2013, Mike @ MPT has been dreaming of swapping a modern Ford powertrain into it. With MPT's continued success in Ecoboost tuning, it was an easy choice to go with Ford's 3.5L Ecoboost V6 Twin Turbo. Now, it's time to get the car over to Todd Fante @ Hot Rods by Todd so he can start tearing into this project.

    I have been waiting for the day this engine would go into a classic.

      What's nice is it can go in as is now and later we can go custom headers, top mount turbos and really get creative with it. Now if we can get it to sound like the Ford GT, that would be the best of both worlds.

    I'm so torn, the purest in me is screaming no but the tech guy in my is screaming shut up to my purest side.
    This should be interisting.
    I'm personally thinking of doing a Ecoboost in a 83 Ford Ranger short bed.

      I'm thinking on buying a 1969 mustang for 2 grand his no engine or anything I want it to be fast and a daily driver and it would be my first car how much do you guys think it will cost to give it the engine and trans of a v6 ecboost twin turbo

    My Chrysler 300 LE started fine in -30f when my buddies Dakota R/T wouldn't start. Not sure why you can't figure out a carb, but you should have left the old drivetrain in and upgraded the brakes and suspension.

    It's hard for me to get past the v8 sound but the ecoboost 3.5's have been changing my mind. I have to say that I don't like the exhaust note on them but their performance is undeniable. Good luck to your swap and I hope it turns out well.

    Should be gone with the 6R80 automatic that comes on most 3.5EB. There's so many complaints from the MT82 owners.

    Yeah! Kill those shock towers. I hated these on the Old Ford. they always got in the way of headers.

    My friends dad just restored a 69 Mustang identical to this car. It puts a bad taste in my mouth when you put an ecoboost engine into a classic muscle car that deserved to retain its V8 heritage.

    Very cool Mike! Really looking forward to seeing progress and also seeing it finished and on the road. My first car fresh out of high school was a Grabber Blue 1970 Boss 302. Loved that car . .

      It's moving along so fast, the original time line was a year. Wouldn't mind at all for it to be completed before then, just a little harder on the budget to happen all at once.

    This mustang is going to be a beast when it's done. For me though I prefer the 5.0L Coyote V8 because it has the deep throaty rumble but that's just me.

    The easier thing to do would have been to EFI swap that 302. There goes all your running issues, you make similar power, and you still keep that awesome sound. The Ecoboosts are awesome, but in a performance vehicle, they just don't have the right sound.

    Nice project .. got exactly similar mustang 69 fastback. I would like to do engine and manual transmission swap without touching the original frame ( it is must in here for registration inspection...). Would you recommend to swap an engine and transmission from 1986-1993 mustang ? Any recommendation ? Advice ?

    I like this Idea! My favorite car back in High School was the 69/70 Shelby Gt500! Now I was curious why you wanted a 3.27 SRA out of ford Explorer, so this is what I came up with!
    The Ford Explorer 8.8 rear end came with 31 Spline Axle Shafts from the Ford Factory! I Did not know that!...Learn something New every Day! Most came with Traction Loc/LSD and from 95+ came with Disc Brakes! Here is a link were I got my info. from:
    forums.turbobricks.com/showthread.php?t=274343
    Now I have a friend who has his own shop and he is planning on building a 67 Mustang with a 3.5L Twin turbo EcoBoost V6 engine Swap as well. While in High School I had a 66 Mustang Coupe and my Idea is to get another one, to do a 3.5 TT EB V6 engine swap with a 6R80 6-sp Auto trans with a custom Paddle Shift setup and etc...or maybe I get a 69/70 Mustang coupe to be different! Keep up the Good Work!...God Bless!
    BTW...When will part 2 come out? Also I have a 03 Mustang GT/Cobra Project Car and it has a 3.27 Gear Set with Disc Brakes (5-sp) that came from the factory that way!

    Seriously consider installing a set of the new Cuthroat Exhaust Cutouts. Gives that extra performance flow and sound that other cutouts can't. Especially if going Turbos!

  • @tortreform9478
    @tortreform9478 7 років тому

    What is the total cost of this build? What is the cost of this quality of a 69? I know this build can vary greatly at this point in your project but Ive always wanted a 69 mustang with modern mechanical components. Not thinking about cosmetic aspects yet. Engine wise the 3.5l ecoboost, 2.7l ecoboost, or a 5.2l aluminator would make a really cool mustang. This is the first video ive came across of this so its very intrigued. Just wondering how much you'll end up spending.

    • @mptperformance
      @mptperformance  6 років тому

      Guessing total cost when complete will be around $60k. Car was purchasing in great running condition with carb 302 for $23k.

    I swear i saw this car up for sale like a month ago with that beautiful Grabber blue paint job i wanted it so bad but it was gone to quick. Im excited for this build. Also I'm sitting here waiting for All the V8 purists to come in raging for no reason lol. Are you guys ever going to ever come out with a ghost came tune for the 5.0 F-150's again??

    • @mptperformance
      @mptperformance  7 років тому +4

      Wasn't this one for sale, this car was purchased 3-4 years ago at Turkey Rod Run in Daytona Beach, Florida. Definitely expect some v8 guys to say we ruined it, but when it's ripping up and down the street none of that will matter.

      Shawn Prickett V8s are sick but 3.5 EcoBoosts are an awesome choice in any V8 (more power, less weight (not much but a little at least) and better fuel economy).

  • @danclary6609
    @danclary6609 7 років тому

    Where are they going to mount the hydraulic power steering and a/c, the 3.5 has only provisions for one. I think there is a guy in Florida that makes and electric assist that goes in the column itself. Good luck

    • @mptperformance
      @mptperformance  7 років тому +1

      AC isn't decided yet but will likely be an aftermarket unit such as vintage air. Steering is part of the Rod & Custom RC-107 coilover package. We went with a power rack.

    • @danclary6609
      @danclary6609 7 років тому

      I used a krc pump mounted where the a/c would mount. left no place for a/c unless you could use electric a/c off a hybrid Escape.
