  • In this tutorial I show you how to make a DIY learning tower from two pieces of Ikea furniture! The Bekvam stool (£20) and the Oddvar table (£8). The learning tower is a great way to get your little ones involved in the kitchen in a safe and secure way. If you made a learning tower what activities would you do with your children?
    Please don’t leave your child unattended around the learning tower. Supervised use only!
    I’d love to see your efforts, follow me on Instagram @ohhidiy and tag me in your creations! / ohhidiy
    You can find a full written step by step guide over on the blog here:

    To make the learning tower I used:
    Bekvam stool
    Oddvar Table
    30mm Screws (3mm wide)
    A drill
    A screwdriver
    Rustoleum spray primer
    B&Q White kitchen paint
    Rustoleum Furniture Lacquer - Matte Finish

      @@OhHiDIY I just completed this. 2 weeks later than I would have liked, but that's how it goes when you have a 9 month old - LOL.
      The whole thing worked like a charm, but I needed to level the legs a bit. To do this I cut a cross section of a wine bottle cork and attached this using shoe glue to the leg that needed to be raised a bit. I did this to 2 legs and now it's totally stable. Another benefit is the cork can protect your floors.
      Another thing I want to add is the pine is really soft, so it's tempting to just screw in without drilling. But do make sure you drill if possible, because the screw when it's in the wood also takes up space, and if you don't drill some space for that screw, then it will push the wood and can cause cracks and splits. So rather just drill like in the vid.
      Otherwise the whole thing saved us a lot of money and couldn't be happier. And my 9 month old son took to it very quickly and loves being in the top, obviously though supervised.
      Thanks again and subscribed.

    Nice. But how did you actually attach / connect that additional peace/ feet that should prevent from falling over to the rest?

    Just made this and my little girl loves it, she’s 21 months and can get in great but has trouble getting back out? It looks too tight for her (she’s 27lb)
    Any tips on how your little one gets out?

    The feet are important how did you attach them? However the tower should be the same hight as your kitchen desk...

    Hi. Do you think we could use a tenhult step stool instead of the bekvam? It seems safer since it doesn't have the hole in the middle.

    • @JOYCE1990XOXO
      @JOYCE1990XOXO 3 роки тому

      The hole is underneath the standing surface so it doesn't matter but I made it with the Tenhult because the Bekvam isn't available anywhere. It's just as good.

    Hi! Thanks for the video. Easy to follow instructions. Unfortunately I don't have a drill and have never used one. What are my options? Can I glue them using Unibond etc or are there shops in the UK which can make some holes?

    • @tan90
      @tan90 6 місяців тому

      I hope you managed to make this. if not and you still need someone to make some holes for you, find yourself a local woodwork shop/carpenter/joiner/furniture maker and ask them to drill you some holes - as long as you've marked everything out, they may just do it for free or for a coffee and some cake :)

    Wow 😍, love it. Thanks for making this video . Just wanted to ask, I have a 5 years old , he is 112cm , will this work for him or I should use just a step stool ?

    • @OhHiDIY

      Thank you! it will probably land a little below his waist but it is still good for keeping them from stepping off by accident when not paying attention if you see what I mean? He’s probably steadier on his feet so won’t need it to lean on but it’s still good for security xx

    Thank you I have two to build. Do I need any additional screws? Or the ones that come with the parts are enough? Xx

    • @OhHiDIY

      You’ll need some extra screws. If you click on the link to my blog post it lists out all the different bits and pieces that I used xx
