    Let me start off by saying, I have ZERO interest in video. If all my cameras were limited to 144p in exchange for better high ISO performance or battery life I would take that hit in an instant.
    That said, I am still here watching the video all the way through(including the PhaseOne ad). I'm still hitting the thumbs up. I'm still commenting on the video. All because every one of those actions helps promote the video through the UA-cam algorithm. Hopefully it will keep Zack around and encourage him to keep putting out quality content.
    No Zack = less fun on UA-cam(4 light modifiers/crop or crap were AWESOME), less great info(White seamless/lighting videos) and a feed quickly devolving into gear reviews/unboxings😢

      Thank you SO MUCH Jimmy. 144p. 😂😂😂

    Zack, you’re an amazing person. Your willingness to share your insights on life and work is something rare. When I saw that you were posting new content, I went back and watched all your videos again. Hopefully the algorithm sees it and helps your channel. Let us know if and how we can help you and your channel. I wish you all the best to your new content.

    Some UA-camrs got a million views and bought a C500 MKII just to speak in front of a camera ... and Zack uses an iPhone to shoot himself with pretty much same results while talking to real people ... not millionaires. I admire you man. Thanks for coming back. Keep going!!!

    Hi Zack, the first video i saw from you was earlier today "why you don't win a contest". "How to make better videos with your phone" is only the second one i have seen from you. I am an EE engineer and i was laid off from a multinational company in 2015 after a long and very satisfying career. When that happened i decided to disconnected from the tv world that i was used to and jump right into the information highway ( UA-cam). I don't do much plain entertainment per se, i am getting old so time is precious and i use as much time as possible learning. I have watch hundreds and hundreds of you tubers and content hours and i am finally getting to the point were i want to "really" start my own you tube channel. This is the first time that i have taken time to write a comment in the past five years. I have written this long preamble trying to convey to you how much i really appreciate what you have to say and what you have shown me in these two videos. "This" particular video has really convince me that you don't need a big investment up front and that is more important to think clearly to maximize resources, have good content and to be honest and truthful with the message. Thank you, very, very, much!!!!

    Thank you. It is refreshing to get advice on video production that is not all about hardware and high end production, instead it is about how a small video producer like me (just a little UA-cam channel where I share my modest ideas) can produce quality content without the huge outlay of cash, and more importantly, time. Always enjoy your videos, good to see you back.

    I have been using the LumaFusion app for iPad for about 6 months or so. Incredibly useful and capable tool. Every time you think that you have pretty much found the limits of that app, you discover a new feature. You can literally add LUTs in LumaFusion, which is just insane to me.
    I had Filmic Pro, in the past. It wasn't bad, but didn't really blow me away, either. I think that it would be a fantastic app for someone who absolutely needs some of the features that it offers, but only has a phone to use for shooting. Modern phones have such good video quality straight out of camera, though, that I found myself not really using Filmic Pro, even though I already had it.

    • @ZackAriasATL
      @ZackAriasATL  4 роки тому +1

      I’ve been shooting with the iPhone 11 Pro and there’s an issue I can’t figure out with the default camera app. When shooting video it does some sort of auto HDR something. If you look at the clip in this video where I’m talking about background (around 8:35) you’ll see the walls behind me “flickering”. It’s really noticeable in bright shots outdoors. I’ve had the sky pop from pure white to blue in the middle of a video. I have turned off the HDR function for stills but I can’t figure out why it’s doing it for video. This is where Filmic has saved my ass on a few clips.

    • @SkylerKing
      @SkylerKing 4 роки тому

      @@ZackAriasATL I can definitely see how FilmicPro would be a much better option, in that case. Does it do it even when you lock the focus & exposure before recording? For example, in photo or video you can tap the screen to lock a focus point, and even drag up/down to change/set the exposure before recording. If you do that, does it still override and start going in and out of the "HDR" mode?

    Man, I so get that whole “it’s just too much” thing. Glad to see you back. By all means, reduce that friction. You’re kicking out shockingly good image quality (way better than a significant number of other youtubers). If I were in your shoes and wanted to tweak anything, the only real change I’d make is probably the camera, but only to shrink the DOF a tiny bit so the background isn’t quite so in focus. It doesn’t have to totally blown out, but it does tend to be less noticeable if it’s pleasantly soft. This of course is all stuff you already know, and I’d rather see content that was easier for you to make than getting caught up in that stuff.

    Hi Zack. 1st time long time. Been a follower, fan for years. I still use my OneLight DVD for a kick in the pants sometimes. Now, I have no really clever comment to add beyond; I truly appreciate your work and these videos. I too struggle with clouds and find myself falling into the information consumption trap instead of just grabbing my gear and doing something. That said, it was that rut that lead me here to "consume" more content, however this time I do feel inspired to create over consume. Do you have any wisdom or advice for kicking the lethargy away to create? I recall a blog post you did a few years ago along these lines you put together discussing (I think) your struggle with seasonal issues. I have a slight physical disability, which is a bummer, that sometimes gets in the way, but the real battle is often motivation. Not yet doing video, still working on stills and all that go into that world.
    Ok. Thanks Zack, truly appreciate the gift of your experience and knowledge as you share away.

    Hi Zack
    Your video has to be the best instructional video on how to shoot UA-cam videos using the iPhone. You really had a lot of great ideas. I especially like the FiLMiC Pro remote so that I can use my iPad to monitor what my front facing camera just seeing when I shoot. Please continue to make these videos. For me, I want to start making UA-cam videos on how to edit photographs using both Lightroom and Photoshop. I think I will also be covering some Luma fusion tutorials.
    Thanks for your great videos.

    Hello Zack, thanks for the great video, I've really missed your humor and that video came just in time for what I have planned coming up the next weeks. Also thank you very much for sharing your personal struggle. I have a little cloud following me as well from time to time so I this really resonating with me. And I also have a daily commute of 1,5 hours to the office. Which really sucks.

    OH, and Zack? I'm a pro photog for 40+ years, and know all too well, I'm afraid, the challenges of getting something worthwhile done on any given day. Should I update my site? Send out an email? Do a shoot for myself cause I can't look at anything I have on my site... but then who do I market to? Why???? So, congrats on waking up and putting your feet on the floor. Keep going, but PACE YOURSELF!

    ZACK! I missed you, glad you're back and yakking and Zacking. You DO have the gift of gab. I've been a fan since watching what I think was your very first vid, shot on some kind of little camera (flip cam or something?) that was popular for a year or so, you amusingly poked fun at doing something about photoshop BS but then turned serious as you talked about your father... you strapped the camera on top of your car as I recall, and went to visit him... that was a LONG TIME ago, right? ANYHOW, this is a really great not-so-short vid full of great info... and you are soooooo smooth now, calm and collected and sincere and, well, hope you're feeling better.

    So helpful Zack. Thanks! How in the world do you get such a clean export though? I use lights, I have ISO all the way down, I have the settings all the way up on Filmic Pro.. but I still deal with crazy amounts of noise. How do you get such a clean picture? Are you removing sharpness in post? Specific export settings?

    • @ZackAriasATL
      @ZackAriasATL  4 роки тому

      I’m not doing anything special really. Shoot in a decent amount of light. I usually shoot at 2k 30p and export to 1080 at default settings and... that’s it. No extra anything.

    Hey Zach, glad to see you are back. This video is very up my alley right now, since im trying to make my youtube vids on my music a little better but i wanted to say that like ten years ago now, with the one light seminars online and stuff you helped make me a working photographer, got me into photography school and all, it led to a career. Thank you.
