The army may have groove but they were 2 different styles arguably the navy was more class. And much harder if you compare its more regulation vs exhibition and when you see tempo and uniformity vs the army's style one is much harder than the other in my opinion that's why there multiple judges

The integrity of the Navy frontline to stand w/o withdrawal AND hold a pleasant demeanor whilest under "powder attack prank" (which showed immediately on pristine drums & surely added a TON of uniform clean up time & effort) shows their absolute unity and trust in their team to take all and give all- TOGETHER unhindered to carry on at their best. 👏 Bravo!

This is so surprisingly fitting. Army played a straight forward solid crowd pleaser capitalizing on their larger bass line and thus fuller sound while Navy played far more technically focusing on individual sounds to create diversity. So basically Army huah overrun the enemy with infantry and tanks Vs. Navy technicians and engineers operating ships and submarines... Even the drumlines exhibit the cultural differences between the services. Cool how that played out.

    • @bobbart6498

I won't go into detail, but three of us were sent ashore to the American Embassy to get some injured civies. Let's just say "injured" was an understatement. When we got back, the chopper had to circle the flight deck for an hour until we could land long enough to disembark. I remember they were pushing fixed wings of the bow of the Enterprise because there was just no room. It was what the Navy called "controlled confusion."
Then we went on to the Mayaguez incident, where the Khmer Rhouge "illegally held" (she was captured In international waters, close to the Gulf of Tonkin, I think) one of our merchant ships,, the SS Magayez, so it was a show of force. I served for 6 years and we had just gotten the news that Iran had taken our embassy, but I was on my out. Thank God.
I didn't keep up with the Ageless Warrier after that. I know she was decommissioned in April of '90, almost 15 years to the day after the fall of Saigon.
Funny thing is, I met my husband on board ship. I outranked him, and he couldn't stand me. The feeling was mutual.

Non-military college marching band member here. No matter how deep the rivalries go, band members don't hold the resentment that the fans have. I've been screaming at and cussed out by fans and players but never by band members in the 10 years I have done it. It's one of the most awesome things when we're able to mingle with the opposing band and it's just an atmosphere of genuine love. I'll have to say that the precision of the navy drumline gave them the win here though 😄

As a devout band nerd before being an Army vet, my vote goes to Navy for sound but army had less mistakes. I spent years in the box looking and listening (critiquing) and there were too many Navy mishaps. They made their mistakes less obvious than the Army though. This brought warmth and joy to my heart!

My God hold and keep you as well as yours. Moms are always on the minds of the deployed. Know you too are a hero, just of a different sort.

Bless you, Mark. Of course technology has greatly improved (from 2002- to now), so now we can hear from our children regularly. But I can tell you there were many times that the 2-week mark (no contact) would hit and I automatically started deep cleaning the living room so it looked nice when when they came to do the Notification. Their dad knew better than to stop me.
Once, it had been nearly a month, I would leave my cell number on the front door. ('Hell-man' province when the bad guys played constant target practice on the satellites).
But I've learned three crucial lessons over the last 20 years:
      1. It's waaaaay harder to be an Army Mom than an Army Wife :-)
      2. God's love for us is CRAZY! I definitely didn't want to give MY sons' lives for a bunch of ungrateful people. But He did!
      2. God's peace really does surpass all understanding: because I sure couldn't explain it! ☺️

True story: the drummer who started all this was a Marine at Camp Pendleton in 1977. Came rushing into the room of my Marine Corps Band buddy and said "Hey! Listen to this!" and started playing and using the rim on purpose and the desk and the back of a chair to bang out exactly what I'm hearing here.
Impressive performances and talent. Cymbal thing was a bit uncalled for, considering the Navy were in uniform.
    Still: Navy took it.
