The Killing of Optimus Prime is a cautionary tale: Take care of your beloved fictional characters. While there are benefits in killing Prime in terms of story telling, the reality is that Hasbro got rid of him just to make way to sell new toys (I feel like Dinobot’s death in Beast Wars was handled a bit better imo). Imagine if Lucasfilm made a Star Wars sequel Trilogy and carelessly got rid of the old cast just to make way for new characters we barely know or care about. Oh wait…

I saw this in theaters at 5 years old the night of it's release and this was MIND-BLOWING. When I tell you everyone even adults started cheering when Optimus Prime finally showed up to kick Megatron's ass; bro it was amazing! And yes every kid was crying hard when he died.
1980s kid and fan of the original G1 series here! FUN FACT: Blurr's voice is NOT sped up. The man doing his voice is named John Mochitta Jr. He really can talk that fast, and is most famous for doing commercials for a series of toys called Micro Machines. Look them up. They're fascinating. :)

Yes, you've heard most of these voices. Peter Cullen is Optimus Prime in the live action films as well. And if you've seen a cartoon or movie in the past forty years, you've heard Frank Welker. Most famously, he's Freddie Jones in every animated version of Scooby Doo. He's also now the voice of Scooby (and nearly every animal you've heard in a live action film). Robert Stack (Ultra Magnus) was the host of Unsolved Mysteries and Leonard Nimoy (Galvatron) was Spock. If you've played a video game with voice acting, you've heard Neil Ross (Springer) and he did some Hanna-Barbera, yes.
The man who did the voice of Blur is actually a speed talker. John Moschitta Jr. is the talk sponsor for Micro Machines. He earned the Guinness World Record for the fastest talking without messing up.
when you talk about how good the audio engineering is for the voices. You're dead on, the audio engineers for this were knocking out thousands of episodes of toy commercials a year. It was an incredibly high energy era of audio work. Every week another 42-64 episode toy commercial was coming down the pipe.
Most of the transformers transform into one vehicle/object. Some are triple changers like the tank/jet (Blitzwing), the train/space shuttle (Astrotrain), and car/helicopter (Springer) that can change into 2 different vehicles plus their robot forms.
7:03 - 7:18 I remember loving *NSYNC’s “Bye Bye Bye” as a kid, but was made fun of for it. But now the latest “hit movie” used the song. Now all of a sudden I see people use the song in their no-effort memes. Heck, some of the people who used to bully me hear and meme the song. 9:20 that’s the stuff I miss in movies. REAL VILLAINS!! They try WAY too hard to make you understand/care about the villains. And yes, identity politics are dumb and manipulative to children. Objectively, activists who never had children have ruined children’s entertainment. They were children once, why all of a sudden care about what children should be if they themselves were once children?
The movie looks futuristic, being what 1986 thought the far-off year of 2005 might be like. It did connect to the '80s TV cartoon, acting as a bridge between its 2nd and 3rd seasons. At the time they kinda expected most of the people watching it were already familiar with the cartoon, so they don't spend a lot of time introducing ideas or characters.
There is something that not many know and that is that Unicron can not die because he is a primordial God and brother of Primus (Cybertron) and why he said he can not die, and it is because he is a unique being in existence since he has no variants in the other Transformers universes, both in live action, animated and animated series movies, so if you watch more Transformers series or movies and you see Unicron in these ... well, it is practically the same Unicron from Transformers the Movie, only when he is defeated or stopped by the matrix the only thing he does is that he has the ability to go to another universe and start over, to always do his endless fight against his brother Primus and want to dominate and conquer the universe so that chaos and darkness reign. And another fact Unicron and Primus were born from a being called The One who is practically God but in the Transformer universe and The One when creating the entire universe and the multiverse, it separated into two being Light and Darkness, thus giving birth to Primus and Unicron. And besides, if one of the two, be it Unicron or Primus, dies, literally God dies and existence and the multiverse cease to exist, but only Primus and Unicron can kill each other since they have the ability and no other deity or being in existence can kill them, they can only stop them, put them in a coma, stasis or sleep.
The violence wasn't the main issue. It was how most of us kids lost our shit when Optimus died. We watched the cartoon every Saturday. The voice actors and soundtrack really elevated the whole movie. The sheer amount of talent that went into this is staggering. Two of my favorite are Eric Idle as Wreckgar and Weird Al's dare to be stupid.
Millions of years ago, the Autobots and Decepticons fought in the Autobot ship The Ark. It crash landed on Earth where it remained until a nearby volcano erupted, jolting the ship to a working state, ready to repair the Autobots and Decepticons within. The movie is a timeskip to the “future” year of 2005.
The 80's and into the 90's were a different time, kids weren't coddled so hard by their media. No one cared about the violence and kids had no issue understanding the real world morals. I'm glad I grew up on things like this.
This movie came out between the second and third seasons of the cartoon. Because it was written between the first and second season it doesn't feature many of the characters introduced in the second season. It was widely unpopular at the time because it kills off most of the original cast and focuses on the new toys that were being introduced here for the first time. The animation style was very jarring at the time as well because it didn't match the aesthetics of the low-budget cartoon animation. The toy line never recovered (even after resurrecting Optimus) and the North American cartoon would get cancelled after the third season with only a mini-series that never led to a full fourth season. The Japanese audience got a full fourth, fifth, and sixth season.
For as phenomenal as this movie is, especially for those of us that grew up with these characters, it really highlights the shortsightedness of Hasbro. They saw these characters as products, we saw them as people. So when they died, a part of us went with them. I can't recall anything in recent history that's had that kind of effect on a young generation, primarily because you couldn't make something like this today.
I really don't like seeing Optimus die in any incarnation. He's my #1 favorite Autobot/Transformer, but damn if he didn't have a really great final fight against Megatron. Also....The universal greeting is understood by most creatures in the galaxy. It can be roughly translated to "Hello, we mean you no harm," or "We come in peace," or "Do you hate dirtwad Decepticons as much as we do?" Also, I love how Weird Al Yankovic went from singing "Dare to Be Stupid" which I regard as the National Anthem of The Junkions to actually playing the Junkions' leader Wreck-Gar in Transformers Animated.
I always feel bad for folks whose introduction to Transformers is the Bay Movies. THIS movie is SOOOOOOOOO much better. Especially the soundtrack, it RAWKS!
The good news about wanting to buy all the toys is that Hasbro recently launched a "Studio 86" line of figures which are even more articulate and poseable than the toys that were available in 1986. There was no Arcee toy for decades. There would be no Unicron figure until the 90s. (Cybertron is the size of Earth's moon for comparison. But scale is very fluid in G1 Transformers.)
5:34 actually, for the most part the transformations are pretty accurate to the toys with a few exceptions. But considering how expensive animation is, for the most part you can see most of the important steps shown on screen.
This movie came out in 1986 when people weren't prissy little babies and this exists in sepret universe from the Michael Bay movies and the voice of Galvatron Lynard Nemoy aka Spock.
There wasn't a Unicron toy released around the time of the movie, though there was a prototype made. Transformers Armada got one, nearly 20 years later.
Some transformers are known as triple changers Astrotrain is self explained lol Blitzkrieg transforms from a jet, tank, and robot form Springer is a autobot triplechanger.
You should definitely watch at least season 1 first generation transformers episodes for backstory. In order its: Season 1 and 2, The Movie, seasons 3 then 4. One short first season followed by a long daily second season. A teen human named Spike Whitwicky and his father are with the Autobots. This film comes out, set twenty years later. Third season follows. Fourth season only has three episodes.
Frank Welker as Megatron is and always will be the best version of him. The new ones where he growls like a beast are just weird, Megatron is meant to be a SINISTER villain, not a brute, and Welker's voicework exemplifies that perfectly.
Man, you struggling when it comes to keeping up with names & what happens on screen at times. Along with other stuff like how Unicron & Arcee didn’t get toys back then and how they still use guns to this day. Must be a thing that happens when you get old. (No offense…)
You don't have to worry about the music you can play it like other people do and you can show the video to do like other people do so please fix it dude

Tbh you’re a bit too concerned about this hitting copyright. Most of this movie won’t trigger it because it’s too old. So this has 2 seasons of the original Transformers show of history. In fact when the studio was commissioned to make this movie they were given 2 broad directives: Kill off the toys they were discounting, and introduce the new toys we would be selling. Also Unicron and Arcee actually didn’t get toys until the early 2000’s. Some Unicron prototypes were made before then but nothing ever got to release until Armada Unicron. So this movie technically created the idea of Matrix looking as it does (the concept of the Matrix is actually from the Marvel comics before this) and since then it’s usually a symbol of Leadership for the Autobots. The Matrix is very different from the Allspark and other powerful items throughout other stories. Also the Allspark as it was in the movies first was created for the movies as Transformers origins have other history before then. Also Unicron is semi-omniscient and is able to watch events from extensive distances away from himself easily. Hence why he claims that he “summoned Megatron here for a purpose” Megatron is Galvatron but upgraded. If you want to experience other Transformers media, I do recommend Animated if you can get past the artstyle, Prime, Armada (but be prepared for some filler and translation to not always be the best as they rushed the translation of lines) and Beast Wars to start.
I got 10 min into this and stopped. Why? Watching someone continuing to talk about a film they are currently watching for the first time making statements about the plot of the film and the overall franchise to fit their viewpoint of life is annoying. John Moschitta Jr, the Guinness world record holder for fastest talker. And he's still acting, last I heard.

The transformers movie takes place between episodes 2 and 3 of the animated series
The g1 cartoon and the live action movie are different continuities
I just found this out yesterday. Probably gonna watch it soon.
There a web site that tell all of the g1 to that latest g right now, and it all of the cartoon/anime.
So close. It was Weird Al trying to replicate the style of Devo.
