To answer the video's question, this movie was set between seasons 2 and 3 of the original Transformers series. Remember that the cartoon was created to promote the toy line and by this time the 1984 and '85 toys were being taken out of production, and thus off the shelves. Hasbro came up with the idea of having most if not all the characters from those two seasons killed off because they figured that kids buy the toys, play with them for a while, get bored with them and then look for something new. What they didn't realize was that because of the show, the characters had taken on lives of their own, especially Optimus Prime. The backlash received was so great that they had to bring him back from the dead at the end of season 3.
Optimus' Death gave us how Autobot Succession worked. Without him dying we wouldn't have gotten Rodimus Prime, Nitro Prime, Sentinel Prime, Ginrai, Star Saber, Leo Convoy or Optimus Primal. Everyone always focuses on the Negatives but ignore all the positives. Optimus being brought back destroyed Rodimus before he was even given a chance cause they didn't want a...Quarterback controversy so they made him not want the job something Kids would hate cause kids want heroes they can look up to. They also made him a jerk as Rodimus something Hot Rod never was in the movie. If you overlook the Optimus part the kid stayed winning throughout the movie. Hell without him the Autobots would have been fucked cause the surprise attack by the Decepticons would have succeeded. He earned the Matrix yet the season 3 writers and Hasbro Fucked him over.

One thing that I'm sad about is that most reviewers coming from the Bay films don't realize that the human hanging out with Bumblebee is named Spike Witwicky. That's the original Sam, who was infinitely more mature than his Bayverse counterpart despite being a year younger.
@@theevilascotcompany9255 In the early 80s too homie was about to pay his own way through college. And have money left over to start his life with Carly.
Transformers have an emergency self-preservation system called Stasis Lock. They go into the state when their bodies receive a certain amount of damage, and all all life support functions are routed to maintaining their sparks. (The Transformer heart and soul so to speak.) It's their version of go into a coma. And they stay in the state until they get repairs. That was the state that Ultra Magnus was in. Optimus Prime body took too much damage for Stasis Lock to be an option.
It should be noted that the toy version of Ultra Magnus is extremely instructive. He was originally conceived as a add on mode version of Optimus Prime, so the White Truck actually has ALL of the necessary components for him to be alive, the red and blue portions are basically an exoskeleton. In the original storyboard, script, and screenplay the Sweeps locked on to him with energy lassos and ripped him apart, but that was deemed waaaay to graphic so it was toned down. The point being none of his core systems his vital organs if you will, were damaged. Stasis Lock was a great addition by Beast Wars and served as an excellent retroactive explanation for how living robots could be reactivated after 4 billion years, they never died.
Stasis lock wasn't mentioned until Beast Wars, but they retroactively used it to explain when the Transformers were knocked out on the Ark in the pilot episode.
I will forever love how ride or die the junkions are. Give them some food and dance with them and they'll fly into battle with you to fight a giant planet eating robot.
Another fun fact: in Transformers: Animated, Wreck-Gar was voiced by Weird Al Yankovic, who was the artist behind the song “Dare to Be Stupid”-the song that played during the Junkion battle.
There are several oddities in this movie because it was rewritten dozens of times. For instance in early scripts the Quintessons hunted down the survivors of Unicron for him. In early scripts Wheelie was a child Junkion named Scrapo. In an early script there were Cyclonus clones called his Armada. In an early script Grimlock was constantly being sexist to Arcee. In an early script Kup was a tank. In an early script the first planet eaten was inhabited by rock-people.
The 86' movie was the only film to really set a sense of stakes in the original media. Characters actually *died* in the movie, despite being completely dismantled and rebuilt in the TV show all the time. Part of what made it both timeless and traumatic was the fact that it didn't pull any punches.
Optimus Prime rolling out to the powerballad of Stan Bush is one of the most powerful scenes in movie history. Even today the "One shall stand and one shall fall" is etched in my memory... Fun fact: The voicelines for Blur are not edited or sped up. The voiceactor actually did talk that fast. He also did the old Hotwheels commercials.
11:20 nope. He’s Dead with a capital D. Most of the G1 cast from seasons 1 and 2 was killed off in this movie to get rid of the old toys and make room for new ones that they could sell. It wasn’t until after the movie, when Hasbro got hit with backlash for killing off Optimus Prime, that they wrote in a resurrection-right near the end of Season 3 (and season 4 was super short in the U.S.). Funnily enough, this backlash ended up affecting the G.I. Joe animated movie that came out later. Originally, Duke was going to die in that movie. But, fearing another backlash, it was rewritten at the last minute to change it to Duke being in a coma. So, while Duke has no more scenes after his fall, they added some voice over to say he was recovering in the hospital at the end of the movie. Another fun fact: Starscream shares a voice actor with Cobra Commander: Christopher Charles Collins. Unfortunately, he passed away in 1994, but he was absolutely iconic as Starscream.
I know I commented this on so many videos but… The Killing of Optimus Prime is a cautionary tale: Take care of your beloved fictional characters. While there are benefits in killing Prime in terms of story telling, the reality is that Hasbro got rid of him just to make way to sell new toys. Imagine if Lucasfilm made a Star Wars sequel Trilogy and carelessly got rid of the old cast just to make way for new characters we barely know or care about. Oh wait…
It’s a lil diff with transformers since theirs seen as robotic aliens rather than human aliens so Optimus dying works better than that but I understand what you saying and feel it cause it’s true
Subtle, really subtle. Even if refute your logic is insanity there were some good ship designs in 7 and 8. The plot in all 3 movies however was fin in theory, but to say the execution was... lacking wood be understatement.
Oh, man! I saw this movie in theaters in 1986, and I cannot even describe what it was like! I was 19 years old, and SO many parents brought their kids to see their favorite characters on the big screen.... only to watch them die one right after the other. But when OPTIMUS died..... HOLY SHIT! Most of the kids went nuts, and parents took their kids out of the theater before the movie was over. The parents got MAD as Hell! It caused such a stir that Hasbro ordered a three part episode in Season 3 to bring him back! 0:30 - Oh, honestly..... BEST SOUNDTRACK TO A MOVIE EVER! And my crippled ass will fight anyone who says otherwise! To this very day, I listen to this soundtrack at least 10 times a year. It's full of "Bangers" from start to finish! Also, for context, you may want to watch (if nothing else) the first two seasons of the TV show, to know about the characters that get slaughtered in this movie, and why those deaths affected kids at the time as much as they did. 3:01 - I still have my "Movie Edition" of Megatron, because it's illegal to sell in the US due to it (being an 80s toy) LOOKING real, and not having an orange cap on the end of the barrel. It's available to buy and modify, but I will NOT alter what the original toy looked like. 3:30 - To answer that question: Megatron's arm canon worked the same as his "gun form" barrel. It was just whether he was in "gun" mode, or "robot" mode. Don't over-think it. 5:00 - Also, while I think of it... there's actually a band that dresses as Transformers from this movie, and perform the soundtrack, as well as original music, called "Cybertronic Spree". I am NOT affiliated with them, but I am a fan. I've seen them live, and they are fantastic! If I can bring other Transformers G1 fans to them, that's all I care about. They put on an amazing stage show, and I was blessed to be at one at MAGFest in 2023.
@@sarafalco6476 Depends on how you slice it. "Dark Awakening" could (and IMHO should) be considered to be part 1, followed immediately up with "The Return of Optimus Prime" parts 1 and 2. IIRC, they were run sequentially. After all, Dark Awakening literally set up Return, rather than "kill Optimus again, just to be sure", although they kinda faked us out at the end of that episode when first broadcast, then (again, IIRC, it's been ages since I had those VHS tapes when I recorded them) upon replaying the episode, added the "coming soon... the Return of Optimus Prime". There are some continuity errors between the episodes though in the animation, which was probably the fault of the animators at the time. But I'll let it pass. ;)
Ultra Magnus original death was much worse. The sweeps don't shoot him. They lasso him and tear him into pieces. That's why his body does that. They decided it was too graphic for a kids movie so they changed it. That's why the sweeps shot ropes out not laser blasts
@@steverapos3904 Yep, Shockwave was meant to get crushed to death by Unicron. They do a call back to this in the Energon series, no clue if it was intentional though, where Shockblast, that was basically a renamed Shockwave, got crushed by Unicron's fist.
Star Trek tie-in: not only did Leonard Nimoy voice Galvatron, but he was replaced on season 3 by Frank Welker, who also voiced the "Spock screams" in Star Trek III.
As a gun, Megatron is a lot smaller of a target and can fire faster and with more precision in the right hands. He does the damage, but takes almost no risk. The original Targetmaster transformer lol
Megatron's arm canon is a very potent weapon, but when he transforms his whole body into a gun, Megatron is able to reroute all available power to blowing the ----- out of whatever. No need to swing his arms, adjust his feet, maintain balance.... Nothing but Boom!!!
I saw this in the movies at the time. At age 11, Prime's death was tragic and heartbreaking! Also, for point of reference, this is when the toys went from die-cast metal to plastic. Even at that age, they just didn't feel the same. I kept reading the comics (US & UK), but the handwriting was on the wall as far as the toys went
If you want to see some fun "deleted scenes" you might want to track down the marvel comics adaptation from the 80s as it was based on a slightly earlier script
They give Hot Rod too much grief. He wouldn't have even jumped in that fight if Optimus prime wasn't standing there making soliloquies while Megatron was getting ready to shoot.
I remember my first time watching thus movie. I was a huge Transformers fan and was so excited. Then Ironhide, my favorite, dies in the very beginning, getting his head blown off as he clings to Megatron's leg trying to stop the Decepticons. Minutes later Optimus dies...this is such a dark movie, but it's so good. It lets you know it isn't holding anything back right from the beginning. I own this soundtrack on CD, and to this day I cant listen to the track that plays during Optimus' death scene without crying. Thank you for reacting to this. It's so good, and so few reactors have done videos on it.
"Coronation, Stars ream? More like bad comedy." One of the most used quotes since this came out and most people have no idea it's feom transformers...granted, most people just use the bad comedy part.
The movie was pretty much there to bridge the gap between S2 & S3. They wanted to get rid of the og cast of characters to make way for the season 3 characters many of whom were introduced in the movie (Hot Rod / Rodimus Prime, Ultra Magnus, Cupp, Arcee, Springer, Wheelie, the Junkions, the Quintecons, Galvatron, Cyclonus and Scourge). That said by popular demand, both Optimus Prime and Starscream did return, Prime was revived at the end of the third season and Starscream came back as a ghost to get revenge on Galvatron.
@@WillTalksMovies The S3 highlight episodes, 'Starscream's Ghost' and 'Ghost in the Machine' promoted comic book writers to make it so G1 Starscream had an immortal spark, that can travel through space and time, he even appeared in one episode of the Beast Wars series. Interesting addendum: a friend of mine said he met the person that wrote the Star Scream's ghost episode at a G.i.Joe convention. He told him the story was meant to be a one off, but someone else on the writing staff also wrote a script about him coming back simultaneously, completely unaware of his script which started the whole thing.

Ultra Magnus dieing was a deleted scene of him getting ripped apart that's why he blowed up like that but they thought it was too much kids so they just showed the part of him blowing up.
The voice of Unicron is Orsen Wells, who famously hated the idea of doing a cartoon of toy robots.... but its also his final full movie credit. Irony. The original toy designs were licensed from Takara in Japan from other toy lines, but were running out. This movie was designed to clear the shelves of the old licensed toys and introduce the new toys, designed in house. But the movie did very badly at the time, which also made Hasbro scrap the planned GI Joe movie.
I miss actual voice actors in animation. I appreciate how they would craft a voice for their characters then as opposed to how most perform now, which is to just read the lines
A lot of stuff that happens is this makes a bit more sense when you know what the first draft was like which has only recently been made public. Originally the reason Unicron knew Ultra Magnus was alive on Junk was because 'Junk' was originally a planet orbiting Unicron. The Matrix, was actually Optimus Prime's Brain-Matrix or soul/spark that they had contained in a bottle. Megatron had died on cybertron when he was too weak to get out of the way of a falling statue. His lifespark was floating through space slowly degrading to nothing, so when Unicron says proceed on your way to oblivion, Unicron was just letting Megatron continue to drift off to his eventual nothingness. Also the original draft killed off Ultra Magnus, Springer & Blurr, which Hasbro wasn't happy about as they were the new toys, so they had to provide the writers with a list of transformers they COULD kill off.
Yeah, we also missed out on getting a giant Autobot snake, and the third , or forth if you count that really strange dynamic in Season 4 between Arcee and Daniel , romantic option for Arcee. In the finally movie draft they hinted at Hot Rod, in season 3 it was heavily hinted at being Springer and in the first draft of the movie Wheeljake and Arcee, and you know what? Little brat me, would not have minded .
So a few things 1: Those 5 headed creatures are called the Quintessons. Quintess is latin for 5, they have 5 different faces hence the term 2: They are the creators of the Transformers. Basically they discovered Cybertron and decided to make the planet their own, they created two types of transformers. A: One for manual labour jobs *Ancestors to Autobots* B: One for military type jobs *Ancestors of Decepticons* 3: The problems started when the Quintessons who originally created the transformers as slaves got lazy and started using them as gladiators for entertainment purposes. They got so lazy that they built transformers to build more transformers. 4: Both sides worked together to rebel against the Quintessons. But when they were successful they went to war against each other. So the Autobots created the art of "Transforming" as a way of stealth. 5: The Quintessons have remained bitter about their exile ever since that's why they held that fake trial with the Sharkticons because it's their way of getting revenge on the Transformers.
I saw this when I was a kid in the theaters. Half the theater was kids, and half the kids were adult men. When Optimus Prime died, you can hear everyone in the theater crying. They killed off so many characters so that they could create new character toys for the kids to buy.
Yeah thirty years later Slag has been renamed Slug. Funny enough a decade later Transformers Beast Wars would make the word Slag a cuss word among Transformers too, being both literal melted metal slag and also their equivalent of shit. Americans in the 80s weren't aware of the British slang Slag.
To answer the question as to why the Junkions couldn't fix Optimus is given off screen, Optimus' power core/spark was damaged to the point of failure while Magnus' was not, the fact Optimus' color faded and Magnus' did not shows Magnus was repairable while Optimus wasn't, it'd be like the difference in a human between being shot through the heart or shot through a lung, one is typically survivable while the other isn't.
I saw this in the cinema, the version we got was a bit different. At the end where Unicron’s head is orbiting there’s a voiceover to say Optimus Prime will return.
@@WillTalksMovies There was a fan letter-writing campaign to bring Optimus Prime back. Hasbro eventually gave in, and Optimus came back for the last five episodes of the TV series.
Excellent reaction yes now you’ve seen the OG is transformers. That’s what we all started on the beginning that it was based on the cartoon series see the cartoon for two seasons and then we had the epic movie in theaters were all excited to see it couldn’t wait, and then we saw the beginning we almost guys were so upset. Parents were upset because so violent we what we didn’t know was that the company that made transformers decided they wanted to sell new toys. They thought the best way to sell new toys would be introduce the new toys in the movie and destroy the old toys. They took them off the market. We are so upset so when the show came back for third season, they brought prime back to life in the end on the third season there’s a fourth season of the show it’s shorter so there was four seasons of the TV show and that’s the best way to see the show when Auto first came to earth Spike and his father the receptacles tried to take over and take the energy from the oil rig and they were gonna kill all the humans because Deceptikon humans are germs. They have no value at all, but Auto bots protect, and think our life is precious, spike and his dad help the auto bots to other people and they had a friend called Chip who was in a wheelchair and I’m in a alwheelchair so that’s my favorite one. I drove the show so you didn’t see the TV show but it was cool and really good and that’s what missing in the Michael Bay movies. The live action version humans are taking down Deceptikon nothing bullets don’t bother septic bounce right off. You need laser weapons to deal with the septic that’s why the auto bots give humans laser weapons to protect themselves even though they mainly take on septic not humans we can thanks for the fun until next time. That’s like bumblebee the movie. Bumblebee because it’s the most like the old show and the most like this movie even though it’s not but it’s the one most like this movie you just saw and I think it’s the best one so far I think that this movie you just saw the movie is the best, one until next time oh by the way, the Dino bots are the brains like dinosaurs so that’s why the dumbest the auto bots but they’re brave and loyal so that’s why they’re the dumbest of the auto bots know like kids like I say they’re loyal and brave so kick butt that’s all for now
Key notes: this movie [1986] takes place 22 years after the end of Season 2 of the animated show. All of the characters in this movie, Autoboot & Decepticons including the subgroups i.e. the Triple Changers [Astrotrain & Blitzwing], the Insecticons, & Constructicons] & more were all introduced in the 1st two seasons of the show. Before anything, you should watch the pilot episodes "More than Meets the eyes pasta 1-3"
The movie was between season 2 and 3. Plus, they resurrected Optimus in s3, kinda. But here's a thing, viewers asked to resurrect Optimus, they didn't asked to give him fate better than death. And, s3 was generally darker.
@@3Rayfire Considering the other parts of the franchise range from extremely kiddie to the Michael Bay movies for the more common depictions which are well known, it isn't, though it should be.
More than likely the reason why Ultra Magnus could get revived was because unlike Optimus Prime his Spark which would be a Transformer's life force didn't fully extinguish yet while Optimus's one eventually died out while he was in the medic bay.
Leonard Nimoy has a connection to the Bay films as well. He's Michael Bay's step-uncle and a member of the board at Griffin Astronomy which typically doesn't allow filming. Nimoy got permission for his nephew to film a scene there and it's where they Autobots formulate their plan to save Bumblebee in the first film.
This movie was the start of a soft reboot for the cartoon. It followed 2 seasons that were set in what was "real time" at the time (mid-80s) then the movie had a time jump of about 20 years. Aside from the Dinobots, most of the main characters featured after the 1st act were brand new characters, especially on the autobot side..A few older Decepticons made appearances but weren't featured as much as the newer ones. Why was Ultra Magnus reassembled but not Optimus Prime? Well in storyline that's a good question but in reality it's because Utra Magnus was a new character, or more importantly he was a new toy to sell. Like many of the characters killed off, Optimus Prime toy sales sold very well for a couple of years but by 1986 pretty much anyone that wanted an Optimus Prime toy had one already so toy sales took quite a dip, same as many of the other original characters.
There's an episode that can be found on UA-cam called "Scramble City" it bridges season 2 to the movie. Its in Japanese but English over dubs can be found. it also sets the table of season 3 of what Autobot city inevitably becomes.

@@redalert923 It's ironic that one of the first Autobots to die was Ratchet, as being the Autobots main medic, he might have been able to save some of the other 'bots, as Perceptor was just a scientist. First Aid might have been able to help, but can not remember if her was a full blown medic, besides, it looks like he might have been at the Volcano base at the time, with all the other Autobots that could have easily repelled the attack must have been. 😉😁
I really don't like seeing Optimus die in any incarnation. He's my #1 favorite Autobot/Transformer, but damn if he didn't have a really great final fight against Megatron here. Btw.... there's a Transformers movie that was released that nicely concluded the series Transformers Prime titled Predacons Rising. I recommend that and the series itself.
I'm sure its already been said but: The goal of the 1986 Movie was to push the new characters like HotRod and Kup by phasing out the older characters like Prowl or Ironhide by killing them off. Hasbro learned their lesson with Optimus Prime[After they got a lot of letters from upset parents ] with the G.I Joe Animated Movie in 1987 but putting Duke in a coma instead of killing him off.
Spoiler if you want to watch the G1 series season 3, otherwise, read on: . . . . Optimus does return, but it wasn't the original intent. There was so much backlash that they had to bring Optimus back. His body is launched into a Star after a more zombie type return, meant to incinerate him. But in a final (and added) 2-parter for season 3 of G1, scientists recover the body before it actually enters the Star. They then force a Quintesson (race of the 5 faced judge in the movie, now revealed to be the creators of the Transformers in G1 lore) to truly resurrect him, lasercore (later known as a spark) and all. Thus began the almost meme-like quality of Optimus Prime dying and later being resurrected as an almost Jesus type character in later iterations of the franchise. The movie also started the constant evolution of Megatron into Galvatron in later iterations of the franchise. As an aside, the backlash to Optimus's death caused a rewrite to the G.I. Joe movie released 1 year later. Duke was slated to die. But they saved his life in the final version. Optimus's death was quite traumatic to the young viewers in 1986.
Fun Fact: The death of Optimus Prime in this movie was so traumatic for kids they had to rewrite the script for the upcoming G.I. Joe animated movie last minute because Duke was supposed to die in it fighting Cobra so they changed it to have him survive by the end.
Megatron needs to use power to be a robot. When he is in gun form, more of his power is dedicated to, well, firepower. But the drawback is that he must put his fate in the hands of his fellow Decepticon, who not only must shoot straight but take care not to let them hit him in gun form, since he wouldn’t be able to dodge it himself.
Optimus Prime's spark joined the matrix while Ultra Magnus went into a stassis lock or coma. Prime died. For further proff. Look Dark Awakenin from season 3.
I would like to edit my last comment. The G1 show mentions "Lazor-cores" so Optimus Primes Lazor-core must have burnt out and his energon probably kept him alive long enough to pass the Matrix. Sparks and Satssis Locks came from the Beast Wars series. Optimus Core must've been damaged when he was blasted in his chest. I remember a episode called "Divide and Conquer. This show Optimus having a close call. How he didn't from those injuries, I can only say "kids cartoon plot armor". But the 86 movie showed they can die and a lot did. It hurt more not seeing what happened to Wheeljack!. He could've fixed Optimus because he did with Ratchets help many times.

Yeah, TF the movie is weird. On the one hand it’s a cynical cashgrab to sell more toys. On the other hand, it’s a loveable eighties space adventure. Optimus dying didn’t go over so well. When the movie hit theaters, kids were in tears to see Optimus die. Angry parents, letters to Hasbro… the latter had no idea that he became such a hero to kids. Optimus returned in the third season (which takes place after the third movie) in the final two episodes called the return of Optimus Prime part 1 and 2. There he needs to fight off a virus called the hate plague which infects every living being and causes them to fight each other. Despite being so weird, Transformers the Movie had a special place in my heart. The exchange between Megatron and Unicron remains fantastic
This is in no way canon and just what I always thought because I initially thought the same, why doesn't Megatron use his arm cannon instead of letting Starscream use him in gun mode. My thinking is that when he's in robot mode, his arm cannons blast is weaker because the energy is spread in to a wider barrel but when he's in gun mode, it's a lot more concentrated and precise. Just the kind of thing that goes around in my head
A bitter bit of Irony of Cliffjumper and Jazz being two of the few members of the 84 cast who weren't killed off in this film; tragically Jazz's voice actor, Scatman Crothers passed away afterwards, while Cliffjumper's voice actor, Casey Kasem left the show after they offended him with an episode focused on the middle eastern nation of Carbombya (yes, that is actually what they called it), rendering both characters unusable beyond silent cameos.
The word "slag" doesn't have the slang meaning of "slut" in the US, just its original formal definition of waste left over after smelting ore. It became an issue when Transformers became really popular in the UK. The US writers who named the Dinobots (Grimlock, Slag, Swoop, Sludge, Snarl... see the theme?) had never heard of the derogatory slang before and were baffled when people reacted as if slag were an offensive term.

This movie is somehow both an extremely cynical, capitalistic, two-hour toy commercial, and one of the weirdest, most experimental animated movies ever created, bursting with imagination. Like, the literal reason for this movie to exist was to sell loads of more toys to kids. The reason why most of the original Transformers die in this movie? It's so that Hasbro could sell new Transformer characters. I'm not kidding. That's about one of the most cynical reasons I could imagine for killing off a ton of beloved kids' characters. In the process, they traumatized a whole generation of children, and created a movie memory that would be burned into their brains forever. But because the Hasbro executives didn't really care what this movie did as long as it promoted a new line of toys, the director kind of just got to go nuts with it. That's why there's so much strange shit in this movie and the plot just goes all over the place. It also had a MUCH bigger budget for animation than the TV show, and it really shows. This movie also has a way more stacked cast than it had any right to have, including Leonard Nimoy, Eric Idle(of Monty Python fame), and Orson-freaking-Welles(the director of "Citizen Kane"), in his last role ever before he died!
Yeah they had the balls to KILL Optimus Prime!! Trust me, it devestated all the kids in the theaters back then. I was only two when the movie came out but I saw it on home video. Even my older brother was like "Did they just do that?!" Even after they brought Optimus back, killing your hero STAYS with you, and it's why every Transformers fan is leery if Hasbro's gonna pull the damn 'kill Prime' gimmick.

To answer the video's question, this movie was set between seasons 2 and 3 of the original Transformers series. Remember that the cartoon was created to promote the toy line and by this time the 1984 and '85 toys were being taken out of production, and thus off the shelves. The backlash received was so great that they had to bring him back from the dead at the end of season 3.

One thing that I'm sad about is that most reviewers coming from the Bay films don't realize that the human hanging out with Bumblebee is named Spike Witwicky. That's the original Sam, who was infinitely more mature than his Bayverse counterpart despite being a year younger.
Cartoon Spike was a teenager working on an oil rig, he was likely making some serious money and wouldn't need to sell antiques to buy a car, lol.

Transformers have an emergency self-preservation system called Stasis Lock. They go into the state when their bodies receive a certain amount of damage, and all all life support functions are routed to maintaining their sparks. (The Transformer heart and soul so to speak.)
It's their version of go into a coma. And they stay in the state until they get repairs. That was the state that Ultra Magnus was in.
Optimus Prime body took too much damage for Stasis Lock to be an option.
This was written before all of that
@SJHFoto I know, but giving him a 1996 answer to a 1986 question was the only one I could give.
@@NCC-72545Ait’s a legitimate answer
Yess definitely 😂
The Junkions are the best bros.
Basically Australians.
fun fact: the actor playing Wreck-Gar the Junkion leader is played by Eric Idle of Monty Python fame.
I've lost exactly how many times I've seen this now. It's still the best. All of those newer films have tried in vain.
John Moschitta jr, the MicroMachines guy. If I recall he once held a world record for the speed of his talking.
I know I commented this on so many videos but…
The Killing of Optimus Prime is a cautionary tale: Take care of your beloved fictional characters.
Destroying transformers was about selling toys. Destroying SW characters was about selling agendas

Technically, it was a TWO-part Season 3 finale when they brought Optimus Prime back from the dead.
Yeah, and they scraped Red Alert's and Shockwave's deaths as well, I wonder if they got caned for the same reason.
Holy moly they were ruthless!
@@steverapos3904 Yep, Shockwave was meant to get crushed to death by Unicron. They do a call back to this in the Energon series, no clue if it was intentional though, where Shockblast, that was basically a renamed Shockwave, got crushed by Unicron's fist.
@@Believer1980 those likely just got cut due to run time. seeing shockwave get crushed doesn't add anything to the plot.
Star Trek tie-in: not only did Leonard Nimoy voice Galvatron, but he was replaced on season 3 by Frank Welker, who also voiced the "Spock screams" in Star Trek III.

When Cybertronians die, they turn black & Grey
As a gun, Megatron is a lot smaller of a target and can fire faster and with more precision in the right hands. He does the damage, but takes almost no risk. The original Targetmaster transformer lol
Megatron's arm canon is a very potent weapon, but when he transforms his whole body into a gun, Megatron is able to reroute all available power to blowing the ----- out of whatever. No need to swing his arms, adjust his feet, maintain balance.... Nothing but Boom!!!
At least this could be the reason Ironhide's toy didn't have a head.😊

@@WillTalksMovies Sorry. My dark humor side couldn't help it.

Was gonna say how would starscream return 🤣
@@WillTalksMovies The S3 highlight episodes, 'Starscream's Ghost' and 'Ghost in the Machine' promoted comic book writers to make it so G1 Starscream had an immortal spark, that can travel through space and time, he even appeared in one episode of the Beast Wars series. G1 Starscream is forever and technically can be brought back into any future franchise as a separate character from that universe's Starscream.

I love how they brought star scream back from this movie. In Beast, wars, the TV show.
So a few things
1: Those 5 headed creatures are called the Quintessons. Quintess is latin for 5, they have 5 different faces hence the term
2: They are the creators of the Transformers. Basically they discovered Cybertron and decided to make the planet their own, they created two types of transformers.
A: One for manual labour jobs *Ancestors to Autobots*
B: One for military type jobs *Ancestors of Decepticons*
3: The problems started when the Quintessons who originally created the transformers as slaves got lazy and started using them as gladiators for entertainment purposes.
Well that’s a spoiler 😂 did even know he would return at the time?

Still my favorite transformers movie, this one actually has a soul and character
The movie was between season 2 and 3. Plus, they resurrected Optimus in s3, kinda. But here's a thing, viewers asked to resurrect Optimus, they didn't asked to give him fate better than death. And, s3 was generally darker.
This should be the standard for the franchise.
Oh it is.

He was, in fact, not “dead” dead.

As for whether Optimus Prime comes back or not watch Season 3 and 4 of the animated series.

The US writers who named the Dinobots (Grimlock, Slag, Swoop, Sludge, Snarl... see the theme?) had never heard of the derogatory slang before and were baffled when people reacted as if slag were an offensive term.
Get to the ships the ships we dead. Ok When happens Ill do Optimus.
Weid, becomes Waspinator,
O
Bombshell, knows to kill
Funny, Skywarp and thundercracker gone, but why
He WAS called Slag
Hes called Slug now ...because they realised that Slag is a slur here in Britain 😂
Yess that was a bold choice 😂
If spock, facinating, leave alone.
G1 Transformers.
Better then anything Michael Bay could do, I’m will die on that hill
Slag's name was changed to Slug because... you know...
Love this trivia! 🤣
Because British slang sucks?

Yeah he died for good but like others pointed out that was a big mistake. Always wondered did he actually die in the Japanese version?
Yes and Japan wait him to stay dead no joke the first 2 episodes of Japanese Season 4 Transformers the Head masters they kill off Optimus Again after he was brought back in the Season 3 3 part Finale (Japan did not get the 3 episode Hasbro season 4 until the early 2000s). Japan would revive optimus again in 1991 with that being the focus of that years comics stories.
everyone died because of toys they wanted a new line of toys but optimus was just to big so they brought him back lol but i was 9 lmao toys i had em all amd g.i. joes
Behold, the only good Transformers movie ever made.
Ok I saw, I text to much. See i have to for us. Before weird drinking, now I'm fighting for us, we going to die.
Everyone died because Hasblow wanted to scrap old toys and sell new ones.
Can’t be letting kids play with old toys now can we
Real, We dead?
Rodimus Prime, shh.
Funny, Bombshell not there. to smart.
Well listen to best before/
No, not Metroplex or Ultra Magnus. Us.
This Movie Traumatized a generation of kids in the 80s
Oh I can feel that certainly
See weird show beast wars.
