- Back again with FTL, today looking at the engi and their ships. They have some very unique options, and engi crew are nice to have. Unless you are facing a mantis ship, then you are screwed.

I like how Engi B, Slug B, or other weak ships are weak. I respect a game that has "bad" ships that you can play as the under dog

The tier list mentality has kind of poisoned our minds. It's not about them being weak, it's about them being hard.

Engi B i feel is weak, but it's not fun to play. You just have that one dude running around trying and failing to do everything with terrible weapons. I haven't touched it since I managed to get one all the way to the end. But Slug B is just so weird and silly, you can't help but have fun with it, even if you are probably going to die. Surprisingly, I actually had a few runs that beat the game on the hardest difficulty. Those little Jabbas just punch their hearts out.
If hacking is ever brought up again in another video, I have a good tip to bring up that ive learned from a friend. When launching a hacking drone at an enemy ship with a defense drone, there is a small window of time where the defense drone will turn red and begin to aim its shot. If you pause the game and power off your hacking system and then unpause, the defense drone is nearly guaranteed to miss its shot as the ai does not consider an inactive hacking drone a threat. You can then re-power the hacking system to attach the unpowered drone to the enemy ship. Presto, their defense drone is now utterly worthless.
Dang, that is neat! I’ll do my best to remember that for the next ship with it

Looking forward to how you would rank my fav ship. (I know a lot of people do not tend to like this tho do to it being a tad slow) Yes I'm talking bout the FED Cruiser (Federation Cruiser) God I love that Artillery Laser... (Slow af but Ignoring all Shields (I belive it even bypasses super shields) yeh very Brutal).

We shall certainly see when the time comes… but I can say that I am a known fan of super weapons
from what I remember, the artillery beam can't penetrate supershields, unfortunately.

A couple minor corrections:
0:26 - The engi aren't fragile; they have the standard 100 hp. The reason they lose fights is because they only deal half damage (poor guys are built to create, not destroy...).
10:58 - Manning weapons doesn't improve their accuracy; just their charge rate.

Aaaand, I have, but I’m thinking that I won’t be doing so. I like base FTL, the only mod I would consider talking about is Captain’s Edition, and even then I don’t know if I will
Honestly, while the mini series is not a bad idea, video rssays have become exceptionally popular in recent years (myself being a big fan of long form media, this has been excellent for me) meaning the big ol video concept probably would do quite well.

I’m a huge fan of long form videos as well! I just finished Patrician’s Oblivion video again, and am working my way through the Skyrim one (again).
For 500 subscribers I have been workshopping a longer video, a planned length of an hour or so. Though, if you aren’t a fan anime it may not be your favorite. In any case, it’s my trial run on making long-form videos. If the process goes well, then I will certainly want to make more!

Why do you list off everything about each ship? systems, crew, and augments are listed in the ship selection menu which are usually similar across all ships. By default one would expect the following: 2 shields 2 engines 1 medbay 1 oxygen 1 piloting 1 sensors 1 doors systems. Unless the ship deviates from this standard for you to comment on it, there is no reason to even mention them. the way you currently do it is just an information vomitorium with no comments or critiques.
The only additional information you give is starting resources which are generally not that important. all ships start with 16 fuel + other stuff if the ship requires them to function from the get-go. The good stuff is when you talk about how well it all works together and the strategies you are expected to do with each ship, or mentioning drone AI priorities and hacking mechanics.
I would assume that most people do not have every ship’s systems and crew memorized. Perhaps you are right about the augments though. I generally prefer to be thorough in covering details. Besides that, I just like listing everything out. Perfectly ordered, as all things should be.
However, I can say that you bring up a good point about commenting on all the unusual system levels. There are certainly things I can improve on, and that is one of them. As I make more videos, I gain more experience, and this will improve. Or so the idea goes
EDIT: After thinking on it, you may be on to something regard the expected systems. Both in terms of recording and editing time, I have an idea on how to improve that. This was a useful comment, thanks
