Wow, the natural cracks gave it an aspect like it was scars, but not necessarily a warrior's battle scars, but something more like life scars, from different experiences, which made it seem like Amodius is really wise, calm and imposing and has a lot to teach us. This is amazing! Thank you for your work and your words!

You are a credit to the artistic community, your tenacity when you're met with difficulties is absolutely legendary. Your sculptures just continue to get better and better, I didn't even know that was possible because they were already incredible. The fact that you kept the cracks, and didn't attempt to repair them resulted in a STUNNING end. The cracks are as much a part of him as the delicate detail work, good for you for seeing that inside of that log. I genuinely had tears going down my face when you started applying oil. So proud of you Jonas, and honored to watch your journey!

You're so wholesome and inspiring, I love it. Your work is incredible (as are just the sketches!). And I love how human and honest you are, you admit to making mistakes and learning, and approach it with such a refreshing and pleasant attitude that every setback is just a chance to learn more. Personally, I wouldn't get so anxious about the filming and editing, it's refreshing to see some real working and thought processes, without it being over edited to appear 'perfect for youtube' - in my opinion anyway. I really hope you get the success you deserve.

Absolutely love this, the sculpture and the fact that you did not hide the beautiful wood, but instead used the character and enhanced it with the oil finish. For future reference, when building you box bases, look up using wooden dowels instead of screws as "fasteners", I use this technique all the time and along with good glue, it works amazing.

I remember having the same feeling of trepidation you've talked about (taking commissioned work and not wanting to let the client down) when I started my knife & tool sharpening business. If you're comfortable and confident in your artistic skills, just make sure you discuss everything as much as possible with the client, and give yourself plenty of time to do a good job. Don't set unrealistic deadlines for yourself until you have a feel for how long something will take.

For securing the logs, look at how woodworkers secure "cookies" to CNCs or router sled tables. Typically, either two fixed dogs and 1 adjustable spreader or 3 or 4 adjustable spreaders /clamps. Others I've seen for chainsaw sculpting have 3 hinged spikes on a frame /base that are driven into the bottom of the log.

i love how the cracks and darker line in the wood just bring it more caracter in the end like an old beat up wild and sage animal. very nice work

I just stumbled across your site today and I have to say you're one of the most gifted artists I've ever seen. I've never seen anyone leave the cracks in a piece of art like this. They always try to fill it in our cut around it or hide it some way when everyone knows that all old wood has imperfections... that's what makes them beautiful. You showcase these and make beautiful art with them. Thank you.

Spectacular! When you added the oil, I found myself welling up with tears as the oil slid down from his eye. I understand the feeling of completing a carving, and I felt your sense of accomplishment in that moment.

As a viewer, I don't mind at all when you work on multiple aspects of it at once, I do similar stuff when I make things and it's nice to see others do too

the "thoughts" in your sketchbook are very impressive. the sculpture is very successful. I would spontaneously put this up at home because I really like cats myself...

I think its a good thing that you don't stick to one spot!! Thats actually an incredibly important skill in art- when you hyperfocus on one area it could become out of 'balance' with the other unfinished areas
So you have the right idea working over the whole piece! Beautiful work as always

A wee tip when you screwed together your base you should've went diagonally from the bottom and then they would be hidden and you wouldn't have to clean them up.Apart from that it's a beautiful job and you got my subscription
