Boiling potatoes ( sweet or otherwise) for anything is a no no! BAKE your potatoes for potatoe salad & Mashed potatoes and see how much better those dishes turn out.
Came back just to report I made this recipe for Thanksgiving and it was the best I’ve made and I’ve made pies for years! I didn’t use the rum but it was still great! I even saved this video to its own playlist so I can find it easy so I can share it
Except for the ginger, that's just the way my Memmie made them. Will def have to try that. Melanated and caucasian sugar, girl you're a hoot! Liked, subscribed, and notified!
I’ve always put rum in my pie and one more ingredients and the Ninja is the truth in processing the sweet potatoes. It makes a major difference. Nooo strings. ❤
I use my cake mixer to mix and get the fibers/strings out. I hate stringy sweet potato pie, but I don't like deep dish pie crust either. People have their own preferences and I'm sure her pies taste delicious ❤
I swear my phone spies on me and reads my mind. I picked up sweet potatoes this morning and was thinking about also making pie. Didn’t say it out loud. I open YT and up pops your awesome recipe. I agree with you, roasting is best. Thank you. You have a new subscriber. Happy Holidays!
Nice! I love the baking instead of boiling. It makes a huge difference, holds more flavor, and is less watery. My husband just asked me for some pies for the holiday. I'm going to try this recipe since i usually just add ingredients, all here except the heavy cream and lemom.
Oh and your tips on the food processor and baking the sweet potato is the way I've done them as well and shared that with others, you are such a blessing, stay encouraged in your "God Given Gift.".
I made this recipe for Thanksgiving. I've been making sweet potato pies for years. Using the food processor (Ninja blender) made the pies much smoother. I also did not use the rum but added everything else. I'll add the rum next time. Great tips. Great recipe!
Yesssss! Glad to see a sweet potato pie video now because there is an over saturation of pumpkin pie and pumpkin everything during this time of the year. Good to have a change of pace. Great video as always Camirra! 😊😊
i gave these pies to my bible study. they said it was the best pumpkin pie they ever had. I laughed so hard 😂! I said black ppl do sweet potato this is not pumpkin
Bless their hearts. Please educate those folks on the difference between the two. I like pumpkin pie, but sweet potato pie is just better by a country mile in my humble opinion. We both know here in the south, sweet potato 🥧 is runnin the show. 😂😂😊😊
I never worry about the strings because I use the Garnet sweet potatoes.! They sweeter and no strings. Maybe I will try the rum one day. But I like lemon extracts in my sweet potato pies. Also I don’t like the silky smooth pies. I prefer very tiny lumps in mine. But when I die the Garnets, they come out smooth on there own
I concur that blending in the food processor takes care of all the strings, I always felt that I was throwing away a lot of my potatoes when I rinsed the strings down the drain and a lot of fiber, I give you a thumbs 👍 for processing the potatoes 🍠 thanks for the technique 😊 and I've been making sweet potato pies for 46 years, never to late to teach a dog new tricks, 🤣🍠
You're the first cook who's offered a solution for dealing with the strings! No more rinsing beaters for me! I'm processing my SPs from now on! Don't really have anyone to help me eat my food anymore so I'm going to save this for the Soul Food Dinner in February. Thanks!
I know I have looked at a hundred sweet potato pie recipes, but yours is the only one that closely resembles mine, except for the spirits, so I'm sticking with ours.😊
I’m gonna try your recipe but without the rum. My family loves my original sweet potato pie because I get it from my mom, but I love trying other people recipes; I’ll keep you posted. Thanks for sharing.❤👍🏽
I was waiting on someone to address the strings! My grandma would have a fit! You're the first I've seen. This is good though!! Thanks! She has me get them out with a hand mixer.
I Will use your recipe. My personal one, published in 1985 Ebony magazine, is basically the same just a few different ingredients. On the norm, I never measure and I never pre-bake crust, I bake at 425° 10 minutes only, reduce heat to 325/350° for 50 - 60 minutes and bottom nicely brown ❤
This looks soooo GOOD! And using the food processor! I never thought about doing that. I have thrown away so much of my sweet potato trying to get the strings out using the mixer. Thank you so much for this.👏
WOW!!! That Looks So Amazing and Delicious. I'm Definitely Going To Try and Make It. Because, in 26 years old and I Never Make Anything Related To Pies or Cakes so I will try to make it pretty soon. Because, I absolutely love Sweet Potato Pies. Exspecially.....,( The Patti Labelle Sweet Potato Pies )!!!!❤❤
You make your sweet potato pie exactly how I make mine using ALL of the same ingredients. I’ve been baking my pies like this for forty years. The only difference is that I recently started using graham cracker crust and I make my own pie shells from scratch.
Your pies look absolutely delicious 😋. I’ve been looking for the sweet potato pie for yrs. My mom made the BEST!! I wish I could taste yours. Have a great week.
So many good tips in this episode! I’ve always cut up and boiled my sweet potatoes and I do feel that they lose a lot of their flavor that way. Love the fresh ginger and nutmeg. ❤
I miss my mom & her cooking. No one cooked soul food like my mama. R.i.p Mama👏🏿❣️👏🏿❣️ Oan: Your recipes be 🔥🔥🔥🔥. Someone taught you well.🙂 I use my mother's recipes, but I have tried a few of yours (with my own twist), & you definitely know how to cook.
Yes I would try that recipe. I'm a diabetic and love me some sweet potato pie.. or candy yams don't nobody make that no more kids don't even know nothing about that..
There is no such thing as a holiday passing without the greens, candied yams, and sweet potato pie. I say that's mistreatment and they all need wrangled and tongue lashed. Please take care of yourself first. I pray you are able to keep your levels balanced.
I once used a food processor and I got a crack in my pie. I wondered if so thoroughly removing the strings gave it no structure at all. Love this video. I’ll try the food processor again.
i think cracks can be caused by overbaking. it happens to mine too sometimes. but the flavor is pretty much not affected. i also started adding more evaporated milk to mine to help prevent the issue
I wasn't aware that you could make a deep dish sweet potato pie🤔. I tried it once before and it never baked all the way thru. I will give your recipe a try😊
Thanks for the video! I just got the pies mixed, and the batter taste really good. It's about to go in the oven! I didn't have rum so I substituted rum extract.
This is my first year of BRINGING food to thanksgiving and i am sold simply based of the "Melonated & caucasian sugar " it was in that very moment i knew i found my girl!!!! THANK YOU FOR SHARING THIS
Thank you Sis Camirra I'm going to use your recipe this Thanksgiving, I usually used sweet milk but yours is great as is all your recipes. Blessings and much appreciation
My mom made the best sweet potato pie! After she passed I tried to duplicate it but just couldn’t get it right! My sons, nieces and nephews said that it didn’t taste the same because grandmother put love in hers! 😂😊😢
I was always hanging around my mother when she was baking. She taught me how to make the sweet potato pie. She has passed on now. My brother gave me the best compliment since she passed. He said, "Your sweet potato pie tastes just like Mommas." I cried, happy tears!!! I still miss her so much!
No browned butter? Recipe looks delicious. I always blend my sweet potato mixture in my Vitamix and then add eggs last it removes all strings and gives the pie a very creamy texture.
Guurll! I cracked up when I heard melanated and caucasian sugars. And I subscribed when you gave away "my secret" of using the food processor to eliminate the strings of the sweet potatoes! Ive always baked my sweet potatoes. I however i pull all the strings out and i mix the mix by hand. I use the vanilla and lemon extract also fresh lemon juice with lemon peel. All the same spices ginger cinnamon and nutmeg. Butter. White sugar. I was taught by my grandmother inlaw from Alabama. She tasted my pie and admittedly it was better than hers.
Pure lemon extract works well along with vanilla extract and sweet potato pie.
I've been doing it for years and I get compliments all the time❤
You’re 💯correct. I use both also.
I also mix my extracts. DON'T TALK about "yall!" WHOEVER that is? We sometimes cook different.
I am a baker and I like to make my own pie crust. There’s nothing like homemade but her filling looks good minus the rum😊
Thanks for that I only have lemon extract

@SometimeAgo65 I usually use the mixer.
It's just time-consuming picking out the strings😁
It definitely works!!!!
What about eggs
@patriciaduncan6212 I thought I saw her add them, toward the end. They were in a small bowl, they appeared to be already beaten then added.
I swear my phone spies on me and reads my mind. I picked up sweet potatoes this morning and was thinking about also making pie. Didn’t say it out loud. I open YT and up pops your awesome recipe.
