I played and completed it in 1987. It's actually quite easy to finish: just avoid Leanoric all of the time until you collect enough offensive spells and then hit him with everything you have got until he's defeated. I even turned the fat peasant into a zombie in order to damage him! Large, colourful and detailed graphics made walking around the game world very pleasant. A solid title that for a mere £ 1.99 (or 5,000 Lit. here) provided good fun, although once you understand how to beat it, it becomes straightforward to play.
Two or three attack spells is usually enough to do for him. Shield is also useful for negating HIS damage spells while you hammer him with yours. Basically you just wander around the map collecting all the plants until your spellbook is full and then nuke him.
You can tell when someone has done graphics properly for a Speccy too rather than just trying to wedge something else into it. That's lovely without being impossible to see anything.
I got One Must Fall 2097 and Traffic Department 2192 in the Poundstretcher budget floppy discs bin in the 90s. Both those games are absolutely epic and i cant believe have never been rereleased. TD2192 had something like an 80,000 word story
How to beat Feud in record time 1. Get the Zombie spell 2. Lure your brother near the farmer 3. Cast zombie, giving you control over the farmer 4. Use the zombie to trap your brother in a dead end And, erm, that's it!
This one must have skipped past me when I was younger, as I hadnt heard of it at all. But I think i'd have loved this as a kid!. I really loved any open world style game that this one was. Kind of reminds me of Treasure Island in the syle of it.
Simple but brilliant game. I like your analgy with Alien 👍 The first time you mix a spell and have it vanish because you left the spell book open, grrrrrrrrrrrr!!!
It's definitely all about that secret garden in the bottom left, guarded by a psychotic wizard farmer. Once you know your way in there, everything else is pretty gravy.
@@TeZXSpectrum good stuff Tez (you big bloody cheat). I don't think I ever drew a map of any single game. Too lazy. I would instead commit myself to memorise the entire thing and succeed in never doing that.
I liked Feud back in the day too :-) and I'd say it was expanded upon, even if they didn't realise it, by Ultima Online up to 1999 where it was one world map with hundreds of players collecting reagents (herbs) and casting spells and killing each other :-)
@@RoseTintedSpectrum I you cast it and there's a villager about, he''ll turn into a zombie. The zombie will walk in the direction you're facing and will damage your Sangria Sibling. Zombie is slow though, that's why Freeze or Reverse are useful.
@@WhatHoSnorkers This makes sense now. When I cast it, I must have hit a villager who was miles away from anything, as they just stayed in the top right corner walking into a hedge. Still though - I think the face damage is going to be your main success in this game. They give you 3 spells which essentially do the same thing.
See I've had the urge to watch this review again and wondered why haven't commented on this video before?? Then I realise that I haven't seen this before and I was thinking of Cogweasel's video of the game haha
The story alone is worth the £1.99. ..and yeah, most of my budget titles are Hit Squad and Kixx(Wizball and the Turrican games in particular were practically theft at £1.99) re-releases, there is still some really good non-recycled ones, though.
Passed me by this one. Looks great would of loved to have played this when it was first released. Great graphics. Major floor not randomly placing the ingredients, can't think for the life of me why they didn't choose to do this? Any way thanks for drawing my attention to it. I may have to fire up an emulator this weekend to check it out
Oh how I remember the countless argument me and my step brother had about the RIP on the headstone when you die. He said it was because you'd been ripped to pieces. I said it wasn't. Carnage. I played this on the Amiga 500, it looked better.
Loved this game on the Amiga and Spectrum. I decided to do a re-imagined Speccy loading screen for it:

Good work mate, absolutely cracking job!
Love Feud! It’d make for an amazing two player game.

Aw, man - LOADS of fun memories of playing Feud. Such a great game concept. And it was one of the first games I think I ever made my own map for.
You can tell when someone has done graphics properly for a Speccy too rather than just trying to wedge something else into it. That's lovely without being impossible to see anything.
Feud, Colony and Rescue are a most excellent trilogy of Bulldog games that all complement each other nicely.

£1.99 belter of a game. Budget games were often shit. This was a treasure.
Indeed it was and still is - mind you, a lot of premium/full-price games also sucked, so it really was a lottery of gaming.
Looks really good. I'll have to check it out.
And if you're afraid of purple wizards, Will the Wise would find you most amusing. 😁
ah nice one - great game. there was a similar game called the curse of sherwood with a similar look I remember enjoying!

A simple random placement of the flowers would have made a huge difference to replay ability. Great memories rom playing it though!
Couldn't agree more!
Curses, you reminded me of Wizadora! That’s done it! This is a feud! I’ll paint myself purple and then we’ll see what’s what! Grumble grumble…
Ripley but bald? So Feud was the original Alien 3?
Woah.
A game I missed this one, probably would have enjoyed it, great graphics and a decent game I must try. Excellent video mate
It's still a really interesting one, and I'd love to see some sort of multiplayer game with this kind of idea.
Great video. Made me chuckle.
I think this was the first game I completed. No pokes needed! Just a lot of patience 👍

"a simple game to play" 😁😅🤣😂
Zombie teamed up with Freeze is a good combo. Stop the magenta moron in his tracks and then set George Romero on him...
I tried Zombie twice, and each time he just stood there and did nowt!

Well worth checking out, and it's a great game to return to when you forget where everything is, haha
Zombie is useful If it's used on one of those famers . Not so much on the NPCs with a little bag on their shoulder . Or vice versa . I forget .
I remember this game well, spent many hours playing but never managed to win.

Ha! I bet you feel foolish now, knowing your brother was 100% correct.
I think the reason for their feud is obvious: Leanoric is a pretty stupid name.
Should have been called Ron and Geoff.
do you know if anyone has dissected the source code for this game?
Not that I'm aware of, and nothing listed in the usual places so I suspect not.
This game is perfect for a PICO8 demake ... 🤔
Do it! Do it! Do it!
@@RoseTintedSpectrum I might give it a go :D
