This is the first time ive ever had the tiniest clue about the rules here. Wow this is a lot deeper than I thought! I didnt realise there was any goal beyond killing the other spy
I enjoyed that, it was nice to finally know what you’re supposed to do. Multiplayer Iain sounds like David Seamen. I’m also singing “Multiplayer Iain”.
@@RoseTintedSpectrum In that case I would like you to consider selling Iain to me for a fair price. I can give him a good home and promise he will be well looked after.
This was an excellent video! Thanks! Great observations and jokes, as usual!👍 Really enjoy it! Also. My first Spy Vs. Spy experience was on my big bro’s C64. I think your probably right about the nostalgia thing😂😂😂
Haha, it's crazy how much arguing goes on in the comments on these videos. There are some versions which are arguably worse, and some which are arguably better, but overall - the core experience is roughly the same across the board.
I could never figure out what the hell was going on in spy vs spy as a kid, we had no manual just the tape and an electron, it's fun getting your friends with a trap but beyond that we had no clue. Also thank you Iain for your sacrifice, it was worth it.
Great vid. Loved this game, thankfully I once had a friend who also loved it. We used to blu-tac a piece of cardboard in the middle of the screen so we couldn't see each other's play area
Haha, we used to do similar! I honestly think, though, that this is the most intentional split/screen of any game. I'm pretty sure it's designed for you to screen cheat and spy on each other. The only way to work out where they are, for instance, is typically to catch a glimpse of their map when they bring it up on their screen.
@@RoseTintedSpectrum It's funny, until you mentioned it and the 'spy' theme, i'd never really thought about it. Just assumed it was a limitation of the time. I think you might well be onto something.
Yeah, you're supposed to be watching both screens at once. Knowing what they are doing and where they are doing it is key. I was fortunate to have a friend I played with who also 'got it'.
Multiplayer Ian! I played it on the Spectrum via emulation years back. The manual made it sound so so much fun. It wasn't. That was solo to be fair. Great vid!
One of my favourite ZX Spectrum games. You can re-kill your opponent by continuing to hit their angel as it ascends upwards. If you hit the angel enough times before disappearing they re spawn as their angel once more causing your spy to giggle all over again.
Love the new intro! 😉 I’m one of the masses that never got this game as a kid. It looks like great fun but even listening to the explanation here makes my head spin! Looks like you had a blast playing it though. Great stuff! Yours; Don ‘NES’ Cheadle!
Nice review. I also had no clue how to play this back in the day. It was bought and re-sold at a 70% depreciation before you could say buyer's remorse. Btw, I watched this reaction via split-screen so as to fully immerse in Simul-View [™]. It gave me two head-aches. 👍👍
I played this back in the day on the Spectrum, it's quite enjoyable (especially when the other spy falls victim of a trap!). The options for map size and difficulty level add depth and replayability. Actually the Spectrum version is the most visually faithful to the original comic strip by Antonio Prohias, which was published in black and white on MAD magazine. On the Spectrum, the two following games in the series were unfortunately nowhere near as good as the first, with their messy graphics and sluggish movement.
I remember I misread title as "spy us spy" (that V looked a lot like U on loading screen), and it made no sense. Asked our English teacher. She had no clue either. Those were hard pre-internet times.
It's surprisingly deep game for its time. Iirc you can do use for your pesky camper friend by making trap on the airport door and grab items in the end after all, by making him think he's won the duel :) I kinda likesd the sequel more. Now in the end this could be a really good remake idea for like max 8 players and twisting gameplay a bit and making some different options for mechanics involved to make game more easier or harder depending on player experience.

Thanks Multiplayer Iain for your sacrifices today.
Just sent him a screenshot of that, he'll be over the moon! A real life comment!
He responded to say "That's made me feel awesome, and he spelt Iain correctly so I'm on Cloud Ten"
@@RoseTintedSpectrum 10? Nice! "This one goes to 10."
2:25 I think the word you're looking for is 'trauma', not 'torsion'. It would be torsion if they were grabbing each other's balls and twisting.

The world would be a better place if everybody had their own Multiplayer Iain.
There's only one Multiplayer Iain.

Thanks multi player Ian for your sacrifice today
Absolute sacrilege did not mention Atari 8 bit range of computers which again was also ported to not just the Atari ST

Same for me, I liked the graphics but had no clue what was going on
I've realised as a child I never once read instructions for anything and as such knew what was going on in very few Speccy games lol
Great video, thank you. Loved this game on the Atari 800XL, back in the day.
What an absolute bollock funny episode! 🤣🤣🤣🤣 you and Multiplayer Iain was comedy gold!

All future videos should include Multiplayer Iain. It’s the law.
If Iain gets patreon, I'll stop all payments to you and revert to him
Hahaha, he'll literally douse himself when I send this

That intro looks brand new.
It is! Bought it from Co-Op. Three for a quid.
Imagine having no joysticks and playing multiplayer mode on a speccy keyboard. You’d have to be really close to Multiplayer Iain
Multiplayer Iain is always uncomfortably close, even sans-joystick.
I remember I misread title as "spy us spy" (that V looked a lot like U on loading screen), and it made no sense.
Asked our English teacher. She had no clue either.
Those were hard pre-internet times.
Hahaha, I remember always being confused by the TV series "I, Claudius" as it's written in Roman font: "I, Clavdivs". I still call it that even now.
Great vid! Me and my brother used to play Spy vs Spy 2 and 3 heaps back when I was a kid. Any chance you'd consider covering those?
Is multiplayer Iain available for hire. What's his day rate?
Excellent video my friend. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

You missed the port to the Atari 800.
You're welcome.
No, I'm afraid if I didn't mention it, it no longer exists. I'm sorry to have to say this, but history has been changed. It's done.
Of course you played the SMS version, it's the best one.
Ball hoofing all over the joint
Had this on the spectrum. My only real memory is to wait at the exit, bash the other spy, rinse and repeat
You and Iain need to have a game of M.U.L.E. ...
Haha, good shout! I'm sure he'll hate it, so it'll be hilarious.
I always think back to how the magazines raved about this game. And then I finally played it with somebody else and found it a bit over-rated.
Imagine what current AI could do with this for single player
Fun fact, a Japanese indie dev made a remake of this thats 4 players
I exercised to this video.
Hahaha, at the minute I'm exercising while playing Dark Souls 2. The sweat hides my tears.
@@RoseTintedSpectrum oh yeh, and I never understood Spy vs Spy.
