The radio broadcast at the beginning (during breakfast) is talking about an outbreak in Jakarta, which Sara points out is in Indonesia. Jakarta also happens to be the home of the largest flour mill in the world. In the first 20 minutes of the episode, we see Joel and Sara avoid infection FOUR times. They have no flour for pancakes. They turn down the neighbors biscuits. Sara leaves before the cookies are finished when visiting the neighbors. And Joel forgets to buy a cake. FOUR times the characters were spared consuming foods containing a product likely manufactured in Jakarta that could have very likely contributed to the global outbreak. - credits

The intro was so good... Those actors are phenomenal. I really love the fact that the bombing advice is coming from the Professor and not the military/police officer. Even he was shocked.
The acting in this show is top notch. You could see Tess's will being bent towards the fungus and how it took every bit of her humanity left to drop that lighter, well done.
Gaaahhhh yesss!!! We are seeing glimpses of how she was in the games - competent, sassy and our little ray of sunshine in this dark world! Cannot wait for episode 3!!
Loved that! He is in real pain after that situation with the Fedra agent. It really makes the weight of the events linger for longer and makes it more realistic.
If you want to see more of the actress playing Tess, she played Olivia Dunham an FBI agent in the supernatural series Fringe about 10 years ago. Great actress!
Yeeesss, it makes me (Denise) so happy to see more Fringe fans out there! I was so hyped when I saw that our very own Olivia Dunham was our Tess - she added such a natural strength and vulnerability to her that just made her ending so much more devastating! Anna Torv is criminally underrated!
In the post-episode official podcast, Neil and Craig Mazin said that they had to reshoot in order to add the scene where Joel explains (mouthed words) to Ellie that "they can't see, but they can hear". I think it's awesome that everybody working on this project want to reach the biggest audience as possible!
Yes!!! You can see the love and effort they poured into this, trying to make sure they respect both gamers and non-gamers! It's fantastic and so inspiring!
The writers actually confirmed a backstory for tess that wasn't filmed where she was married and had a son and her husband and son turned and she had to kill her husband but couldn't finish her son so she locked him in the basement. That's why she was so all in with ellie and trying to find a cure.
That would make so much sense, hopefully they show us a little bit of how that bonded her and Joel - having them share their common grief and trauma (in their own hardened survivalist way) would be heartbreaking but amazing to watch!
i couldnt stop smiling during the clicker scene it was done SO well, my face was hurting from smiling at a genuinely scary part, this show is somethin else
Same here! Didn’t know if I should cheer or be frightened! So happy to see the clickers done so well! The sounds they made, how strong they were. Ahhh!! Can’t wait to see more 😃😄
The thing that makes me so happy is that they completely understand all the important moments of the original story, and that fans of the game would love to see. The view/watch moment could have been so easily overlooked by random potential directors or showrunners in charge of adapting this story, and it warms my heart to know how good of hands we appear to be in with Mazin and Druckmann. Great reaction!
Right!? They kept all of the important MUST NOT CHANGE moments in the game thus far. Enhanced moments to make them better and expanded in the story and background of certain things. We are truly lucky to have Neil Druckmann and Craig Mazin working on this show with the rest of the creative team. You can tell they poured all of their love for the franchise when making the show 😃
Lots of landmarks in this episode! The flyover Ellie, Joel and Tess walked along is a bridge across our river in downtown Calgary. I remember when they closed it to the public for the weekend to shoot the show. The skyline has a lot of recognizable buildings, but they've obviously been CGI'ed to look old. Even the scenes in Jakarta I could see familiar store fronts through the blurred windows of the car (obviously the opening stock footage was actually in Jakarta). And then of course the State Capital is actually our Provincial Legislature in Edmonton! Love your reactions, guys!
It's insane how they transform the streets to make them look like they are shot somewhere else. People working on the set design for this went absolutely nuts! Thank you for the love. It means the world to both of us ❤️
The clicker revelation and sequence were absolutely fantastic. The slow and menacing revelation, the way it was shot, it described perfectly the sensation and fear for viewers that did not played the game and lived up to players expectations. I watched it over and over (just like Denise mentioned) and watching with you guys it is still like first time, I still get goose bumps, the clickers sound is something we will never forget.
Man, I LOVE your guys format. Right into the episode, generous amount of content from the show, brief break for UA-cam stuff in the middle, then right back into it. Please keep it up!
Remember, Tess was infected and the tendrils were starting to take hold. Starting to control her, control her mind and body. That is why she could not move and also why the infected runner didn't run straight at her. He walked up to her. She couldn't move. They were drawn to each other. She was going to be connected with all of them through that runner and the funghis tendrils. She couldn't move her head out of the way. She only had enough brain power to try and light that lighter. How terrifying for her. The explosion was a blessing for her.
Oh. My. God. You're right!!! Honestly, yeah, knowing Tess she would not want to live like them, become them... A blaze of glory was her choice to go out, and she saved their lives doing this... This adds such a frightening level to the Cordyceps, that we didn't get to fully explore in the games - that the people are still in there somewhere, as they're turning, changing and killing.. I cannot imagine, it's awful...
I believe the infected have individual and collective intelligence, and the Stalker sensed Tess's intent to blow up the place. With that kiss, he attempted to speed up her transformation.
Out of all the different reactors I’ve watched, not many are showing the moment Joel looks at his watch. I love watching people react who are also so I tune with this story as I am. That moment means so much and I feel like without having neil druckmann so heavily involved moments like that could have been missed.
That moment is such an intimate moment for Joel with so much weight and meaning behind it. Both heartbreaking and heartwarming. That watch marks the time and day time stopped for Joel. But with Ellie now in the picture there is a sliver of hope. Thank you for watching this with us!
if you notice, in the first episode Joel and Sarah avoid the grandma's cookies and the grandma's birthday cake, plus Joel forgot to buy a cake for his birthday... the flour from Indonesia... they built a fucking TLOU lore and universe... OSCAR AND EMMY, NOW!
They really got lucky! Even a little bit of flour would've gotten them infected! Phew! Absolutely loving how they are using the beginning of each episode to expand on the backstory for the cordyceps. Brilliant!
Fun fact: The female Clicker in that scene is portrayed by one Misty Lee, the voice actress who provided the original voice that they twisted into what became the iconic Clicker shriek.
I love that they brought back the actual voice actors from the game to do the clicker sounds. I was so impressed by the live action accuracy of the sounds and the physicality of the clickers!
I find this episode and some parts of it interesting. The first infection happened in a flour and grain factory. In the first episode the old couple was eating biscuits (which has flour in it) so they got infected. Sara was gonna make pancakes (which also has flour in it) but they didnt have pancake mix so they had eggs so they didn't get infected. Not many people notice that or at least talk about it.
Tess death was sad in the game but way more emotional in the show, I did not expect to cry so much. Zombie French kiss was weird af. But Tess’ actress was amazing
We agree! For some reason I felt more connected to this Tess and her loss was definitely felt. She did go in a blaze of glory though. Taking all those infected with her!
I hate how nobody recognizes Anna Torv, actress who plays Tess. Anna has been a favorite of mine ever since seeing her play Special Agent Olivia Dunham in the TV series FRINGE
I don't know if I've already mentioned this on your channel but my younger brother was one of 7 or so lead animators onvthr last or us 2. And I'm just uber proud of my dude
In the beginning let me point out that the doctor said that flour and grains are the perfect substrate for cordyceps. In episode 1 where Sarah didn't eat pancakes because they ran out of it, she refused to eat biscuits, Tommy ate chicken wings and Joel forgot the cake. The Addlers got infected because of that and Sarah was wondering how they were still healthy and that's the explanation because flour is a commodity. The whole world should be infected at that point.
Yes absolutely! It's terrifying to think about when one considers how many items contain flour, how many cultures use it for their dishes... There'd be no escape
Right!? Her performance in this episode was one of the highlights. What an amazing Tess! Can’t wait to see what the future of the show has in store for use
It makes so much sense that they had Ellie being bit a second time. In the game Ellie shows herself being unaffected by being able to breath in the spores. Good work
You guys are so nice, it's hard not to enjoy your reactions. I can relate to the enjoyment seen in your faces when they get it so close to the game! Great job i subbed.
Ahh man, You're the best! Thank you for taking the time and saying something nice. And thank you for watching with us. We are beyond excited for the future of this show. It’s been 2 out of 2 for us. Loving it!
I heard on one of the breakdown channels (Emergency Awesome) he said that 1 because game 2 is such a bigger game they maybe will do it over 2 seasons this will give time for the 3rd game to get made
The next one (1x3),according to all the critics that already watched the entire season,is the best one of the series and someones said " one of the best episode for a TV' show ever aired"!!
Anyone caught that part where Tess said she never asked Joel to feel the way she feels? Did the show made them canon? Looks like it was mutual it's just that Joel is not reciprocating.. Subscribed! Btw
Yeah...that was kinda sad honestly. Look like Tess wanted it to work but Joel was too closed emotionally. Can't blame him. But it made her loss that much more impactful too. Thank you for subbing! And welcome to the cavalry ❤️
@@OfficialMediaKnights i read somewhere that they initially were going to include Tess’s backstory but they had to cut it. But the story was something like Tess had a husband and a kid and they both got infected so Tess was forced to kill the husband, but she was not able to do so to her child so she locked him in a basement or some room and just had to leave them there😫😭 it just makes it all so much more tragic, Joel and her were both so damaged and Joel just had a different way of dealing with that trauma than Tess. Joel chose to cut himself completely out of emotional relationships and Tess chose to find new people she could rely on. I think Joel definitely loved her in his own way but he wasn’t able to say it or act on it😢
The more you see that the chemestry is so perfect. the better it gets between bella and pedro. i was so nervous and skeptical at beginning about bella ramsay i was wrong. She completely nailed as ellie after watching this episode. cinematography looks amazing straigt out the game how incredible it looks the buildings the street that has been demolished for clickers where terryfing i think the best option is headshots only not the body. can't wait whats next😍
Right?!? Absolutely agreed!! I think it's always hard when a story is as beloved - the expectations and standards are going to be crazy high! But these two captured the essence, and with such ease! Just a few more days, then episode 3!!!
I love episode 2's opening, anytime these kind of infections get a bit of a sci-fi angle shown is infinitely more interesting than any of the character drama imo. Same thing with the walking dead early in that show when there were flashbacks to the early days of the outbreak when civilization starts to break down is my favourite
Your reactions have been my favorite so far. Because you are intimately familiar with the game you truly appreciate the show. It’s refreshing. Most other reactors are pretty boring to watch lol
Another crucial aspect of the last scene is the lighter in Tess's trembling hand. She tried to light it up several times, but it didn't work. She almost surrendered when the stalker gave her that kiss, but she tried one more time. Imagine that even if there is no hope, we should never give up. The episode begins with the belief that there is no cure and ends with the hope that one may be discovered.
Right - also the kind of will power she must have had to resist for as long as she did. Hope is definitely an undercurrent theme in this, and it makes the story so rich and beautiful...
@@emmanuelmartindale8309 Oh well I guess it was opposite for me. I couldn’t get into Joel or Tess until the second episode or even Sarah until her death scene
Aw thanks so much for returning and commenting, so good to see you here again! Can't wait to embark on this journey with y'all! Just a few more days to episode 3!!!
Great reaction guys!! I also find it interesting that the 3 main characters (in this episode anyway) are non-American born.........Pedro Pascal as Joel - Chile / Bella Ramsey as Ellie - England / Anna Torv as Tess - Australia...........but they nailed it!! xxooxx
Hahaha that's true, but hey, speaks volumes about great acting - we got some incredibly gifted people playing these beloved characters! Thanks for the comment and support!
@@OfficialMediaKnights great reaction! It's very nice to see there are others who got excited to see Joel boosts Tess lol. This episode sold Bella's acting as Ellie to me. I wasn't convinced I. The previous episode because I felt she was trying to be the game Ellie. In this ep, she found her own Ellie and I love her interpretation. My only complaint about this episode was the Professor's line with the bombing. It doesn't sound like something a scientist would suggest firsthand. I think her line should be "I can't think of any way we can contain the spread" and leave the bombing decision to the military, as it tends to be their first response. Looking forward to your reaction for next episode. I heard ep 3 is the best episode in the entire season or even one of the best in the TV show. 😁
Thank you so so much for the support, it truly means the world to us, you have no idea! I'm really glad you were convinced with Bella's acting - I feel like all actors, but mostly Pedro and Bella, really got to properly show off their footing in this episode. We got to see them react to and off each other, manifesting that bond that we all fell in love with in the games, and it's incredible how much it's there! So subtle but still palpable! I do understand the misgivings about Iba's line about the bombing. My best guess is that this was utterly shocking, even traumatizing to her - knowing what she's studied all her life to be false, and being a danger to humans globally. It was her fear talking. We cannot wait for Ep 3, we will share it as soon as it's ready!!! Thank you again for the support!!!
@The Media Knights What I mean is the original hosts for the Cordyceps fungus were ants so what I meant is the fungus could revert back into animal hosts like other mammals (deer, bears Eg) and reptiles (lizards, snakes and other reptiles) and turning them into fungus abominations along with us humans
@The Media Knights About what I said about the baby infected I was going for the bee hive vibe where the adult infected look after and feed the baby infected until the fungus grows over them and forms a chrysalis around them
Just imagine a Infected brute charging full speed at you and giving a rib shattering headbutt from its reinforced helmet/head Wouldn’t that be terrifying to witness @The Media Knights
Watched it this morning . Had to wait a few extra hours. Canadian internet is brought in on a dog sled. 🤣 I loved watching it with you a few hours later.
Hahaha oh man…we’ve definitely been there with the internet at one point. Glad you got to watch it with us! This story is one of our all time favs. We’re so happy you are enjoying it so far 😄
Other than the Infected king I want to see: Stinger: this type of infected has long spikes instead of hands who the infected stab into the human victim injecting the Cordyceps fungus into the victim Bloodsucker: this infected has long fangs that can suck blood from a victim and also inject the fungus too Climber: also known as death droppers or gliders these infected are great climbers and can climb up any surface with their long claws they jump off and open their fungus wing membranes and glide through the air and attacking their prey. Brute: This is the toughest infected their suits of toughened bullet proof cordyceps fungus armour resemble Astronaut suits when a brute is about to charge a flap of thick fungus slides up over the face of the brute to protect it and then it charges smashing through anyone and anything that is in its way
Your comment actually made me curious as to why the moon’s impact craters are round and not some other shape. When a meteor hits the lunar surface, a shockwave spreads out in all directions and the impact creates a dent in the surface that is much bigger than the size of the impacting object itself. Since the impact sprays ejecta in all directions in equal proportions (just like the shockwave of an explosion), the direction and incident angle of the impact become irrelevant in determining the shape of the crater. Same thing goes for the craters left from the bombings
About a month before episode 1, I heard a nutritionist explain that improperly stored chia seeds could grow a poisonous fungus 😱. It was quite vague. Apparently it would be... bad for your health. I think I'll do some research before consuming the ones lying around in one of my storage boxes...
Holy shiteballs, I haven't played the game and that last seen with the Clicker guy kissing Tess with the tendrils really freaked out my friend and i tonight, we were screaming and covering our eyes LOL
Ahhh dude! That really means everything to us. Thank you for sticking around. It was a shame they cancelled 1899. But we don’t regret watching because we met so many awesome people thanks to that show. And we absolutely loved it. Maybe some day we’ll see a season 2
Whenever you can play de Remake. It’s beautiful! And the story is as good maybe even better than 2013 because of how much the graphics have improved! It allows you to really absorb the acting. This show + The game feel like a complete story. I’d recommend everybody that is a gamer that likes the show to eventually play the game and vice versa! 😃
@The Media Knights if the infected are connected to each other does that mean there’s a larger infected that acts like a leader or king. This infected leader has a larger fungus crest that looks like a crown and has various mushrooms and other fungus growing all over his large muscular body. If an infected disobeys the leader infected then that infected gets pinned and roared at by him to show the infected it’s place. If human prey is scarce the leader infected calls his large hunting party back to the lair, then lay down and go into hibernation like state where the fungus grows over them forming a cocoon to protect them
Great observation! Honestly we couldn’t say how that’s gonna work. The inclusion of this “Hive Mind” is purely for the show. Like the tendrils. It’s gonna be interesting to see what they do with it! What I can say is that clearly the mutation changes over time. We know that after a few hours or minutes depending on where you get bitten you become a runner (Ep 1) a few hours or days later you start going blind and growth starts coming out of you. These are called Stalkers. They’re called that for a reason hopefully we see in the show! A Stalker is who gives Tess the kiss of death. And then after that phase you have clickers. So you see a pattern here. The longer you’ve been infected the more your body changes. When Ellie asked Joel how long do infected live Joel says “some live 2-3 months, others have been wandering for 20+ years” so it would be safe to assume clickers are not the end of it. But yeah in every hive mind storyline there tends to be a “Queen Bee” we’ll see what the show ends up doing with it 😃
Ughh! Arcane was so good! We fell in love with that show. This has always been one of our all time favorite stories. Seeing it done right for live action is so rewarding! Can’t wait for the next episodes 😃
Hi Guys I really enjoyed your reaction to episode 2 I saw it to , My favorite part of your reaction was the clicker scene I gotta say the design making it real life was incredible right a bit scary Terrified But so cool.🧟♂️🧟♂️🧟♀️🍄🍄🍄🌿🌿🌿
Heyy thanks so much for your comment and support, we're thrilled you enjoyed our reaction! Absolutely agreed, the design of the infected is so creepy yet awesome!
@@OfficialMediaKnights You guys are very welcome my pleasure and right I wonder what will see a new zombie the next episode Will it be something new or more scarier We both shall see next Monday ! 🧟🧟♂️🧟♀️
Right?!? They said that we will see a new kind of infected and we cannot wait to see what that's gonna look like!! Probably fascinating and horrifying all at the same time 😂
@The Media Knights I was going for the bee hive vibe for the baby one where the adult infectei look after and feed the baby infectei until the fungus forms a chrysalis around them where the baby infectei mature into adult infectei and smash their way out of the fungus chrysalis to join the nest
Ohhhh that would be a sight to behold if that made it into the show!! Well let's see what they're gonna do, as we know that we will see a new kind of infected that wasn't in the games, so we're all in for a ride when it comes to the Cordyceps!
What an intro, right? We we now know that it was the food. The Millers avoided food that had yeast in them on the day things went to $#!+, but more importantly, Tommy and Joel survived, so that's a pretty good indicator that they didn't consume any contaminated food. Had Sarah not been shot, she likely would have survived too. We didn't see what she ate at school, but this story made it a point to show us what they were eating, so I think it's safe to say, Sarah would have been fine ='( 26:06 Isn't she immune? I'm not a knowledgeable person in this area, so feel free to correct me here, but I thought asymptomatic meant without systems. A person who's asymptomatic can still be a risk of serious medical issues--if you're body isn't telling you you have a fever or high blood pressure normally, you could be putting yourself a greater risk as your body is still going through things that aren't normal like some STDs and cancers; your immune system is effectively fighting off symptoms until it can't, leaving a person to a late diagnosis. Ellie's seems to be immune; she has the weird signature vain markings on her arm, but that's it. Ellie's body is producing antibodies that is shutting the cordyceps down in her system. The second bite didn't add any type of growth on top of the initial bite. Her body kicked the cordyceps the first time, and remembered it's number the second time it came knocking and shut it down even faster. Anyway, whatever the case, I'm sure we'll get a definitive answer to Ellie's condition before this season ends. 26:32 I know, right? I envy those who didn't play the game at times like this. Not knowing what's going to happen would have made the reveal so much more impactful. Still, they found a way to change things up to make it more epic than it was in the game, so there is that. 27:31 Where did they film this series? It looks so real! I'm sure parts of it is real, but I cannot distinguish what is and isn't real, lol. It can't all be real, can it? As far as 2023 goes, I don't think any TV series is coming close to this. Give this series ALL the Emmys. EVERY. LAST. ONE! Andor was my favorite series of 2022, and even though this year just started, I think it's safe to say nothing is topping this. Nothing!
I don't remember anyone mentioning yeast. They spoke about flour and other grains. Yeast is a fungus in its own right. The flour acted as a substrate for the cordceps fungus according to the woman at the beginning of the episode.
Thank you sooo much for your comment, we appreciate you taking the time to write this - it means so much to us!! So interesting thing you asked that actually - we watched a lot of videos and read a bunch of articles theorizing on Ellie's immunity - us saying she is asymptomatic was more of a bit of an inside-reference! Asymptomatic is basically carrying a virus but showing no symptoms, but still having the possiblity to pass it on. One of the videos we watched theorized that she still carries the Cordyceps, and there are moments in the games to support this theory - it mutated with her, inside her, whether it's because of her genes or a natural mutation of the fungi is still up in the air. Fungi mutate A LOT so it could very well have been a benevolent strain that is protecting her. Or it could have been certain markers in Ellie's DNA that mutated it. Regardless, we ended up calling her asymptomatic due to the fact that she still carries it, and it's still growing inside her. We may be wrong on that for sure haha, we don't have any medical background, just weird bursts of obsession that send us down the UA-cam rabbit hole of research! You are absolutely right though, as it looks like an immunity, but hopefully the show explores further how exactly it works!!! Been dying to find that out! I think parts of the show were shot in Alberta, Canada! It's absolutely stunning right?!?
My top 3 characters went from: 1.Sarah 2.Joel 3. Mercy To : 1. Tess 2.Sarah 3. Mercy (this dog is too iconic to disappear from the top 3). I heard a player lamenting that the fights with the infected are too fast compared to the game, where you fight more before Tess dies. According to him, we don't have time to get attached to her. I absolutely disagree. Tess is honestly my favorite TV character ever. She has only two episodes but her importance for the whole story is capital. This ability to determine everything else, phew, it's masterful. I haven't played the game but I understand that if humanity can be saved it will be thanks to her. Here she becomes like Joel's conscience, she guides his choices. Then will undoubtedly come the love for Ellie that Joel cannot yet allow himself to feel. Without Tess, none of what follows will be possible. I love Anna Torv as Tess, the character traits of Tess, who is stronger than Joel, all the story of that character. I expected Sarah to die pretty soon because while I didn't see the trailer I saw the poster which only shows Bella Ramsey and Pedro Pascal. But Tess' death was a big surprise to me. She had so much charisma and importance, I expected to see her much longer. But she will be there without being there and her death is oddly beautiful. In "The Last of Us Podcast" (spoiler free), Craig Mazin explains that "the fungus loves too". Love is, in particular, the desire to reproduce. Tess does not run away from death and does not seek to bring down the infected. So it don't need to attack her and use force to reproduce. PS: join the Patreon to learn more about the Nokia phone inside joke 😎.
Yayyyy you're backk!! Thank you soo much for your support you are awesome!! Okay, you win this one, Mercy is definitely in the Top 3 but you forgot the Nokia?! Our main hero in this story?! 😂 You know, there is a pretty chunky sequence that they did not include from the game that was absolutely horrifying, tense and just glorious - so we were all kinda hoping to see that but what we got was equally stunning! People will have their opinions, I guess, and that's all valid! However, I also disagree that we couldn't get attached to Tess. We saw plenty of her, enough to establish who she really is - combined with Anna Torv's amazing acting as always, her death shattered me. It actually affected me more than it did in the games, it was much more emotional in the show!! We can't WAIT for you to see the future of Ellie and Joel's bond, you are in for one hell of a ride!! So far this show has absolutely lived up to our expectations and hopes!!
@@OfficialMediaKnights I thought I was overdoing with the Nokia, but you seem to really enjoy it too 😂. Well, here's another one: next Halloween, I dress up as a creepy disgusting Nokia😈😈😈.
You guys rock! its super fun watching fellow fans of the game geek out like I did, I absolutely love the show but I prefere the games version of the final part but other than that Im super invested, roll on next sunday :)
Wooow thank you so much😁 what a compliment!!! Honestly the games are the OG, they walked so this show could run! We are so pumped for the next episode, cannot wait to share it with y'all!!
This is the right kind of adaptation. It takes the base material and both respects and expands on it. The changes are there, it isn't 1:1, and that's fine. It'd be boring if it were. But wow, this show. Wowie wow wow. This show isn't missing so far.
I love the changes! And I love the additional info we’ve gotten. For years we’ve theorized some of the additions or never thought of them. Changes like Tess scene that keep the core message but change the context of the moment. Ughh!! How did they get it so right. They know what to respect and what to make better. We are beyond impressed!
@The Media Knights I know this is unrelated to this video but is it possible that basketball players have thicker veins and arteries in their bodies so they don’t burst when the Basketball player’s heart is beating really fast and forcefully pumping blood through them when they hype themselves up?
I've never played the game but watched a ton of walk-throughs..and I'm really enjoying this series it was just kind of hard to see the infected hoard they looked down on kinda muddy/blurry
Terrifying the amount of infected when they were looking down! At least Tess took most of them out in that explosion. What an episode! We've heard the next one is supposed to be one of the best episodes in the season! Cant wait!
@The Media Knights if this king infected does exist he’ll be one large mean badass creature with thick fungal armour all the infected are controlled by him on the Web of minds the neurological connection that links the infected together. The way the king infected controls the other infected is by his crown it has plates that vibrate to make a loud buzzing sound and when the other infected hear it they they respond with sound and return to the nest. Speaking of a nest a nest of infected is a tall building covered top to bottom with fungus and one entrance hole at the bottom guarded by 2 infected sentries the royal chamber is located at the top of the nest below that is food storage and other things. If one of the female infected gives birth to an infected baby it is placed with a body and the fungus grows over it forming a fungus chrysalis where the baby grows and later emerges as an adult infected. Here’s something that I want to point out the safe zone that the group escaped from is on the territory of the infected nest (if it exists) meaning it could get discovered by the infected search parties and a invasion could happen.
Interesting theory! I won’t spoil anything from the upcoming episodes so we will see! 😃 one thing I do want to point out is that the cordyceps way of reproducing is by infecting its host. I don’t believe a baby that is still inside a uterus would be much use for the cordyceps therefore it would just feed off of it and the baby wouldn’t make it sadly. It does however present an interesting question. If the cordyceps needs a host then it cannot infect every single human. It needs to allow us to reproduce at a specific rate good enough for us to survive just enough so that the cordyceps have an infinite number of hosts.
This aint a spoiler since its not mentioned in the game, but i have this theory that maybe Ellie's mom got infected while preagnent of Ellie, and that's why Ellie is imune to the cordycepts.. What do you think????
Ohhhhh actually, that would be so twisted!!! There's definitely a lot to explore when it comes to Ellie's immunity, but also when it comes to her mother and her relationship to Marlene! Hopefully they dive into that more!
The beginning of this one felt a lot like the movie Contagion. Also, is it just me or does Tess here seem like she’s more afraid at some point than in the game
There’s a true underlying terror within the performance. Tess was portrayed incredibly! She was strong, vulnerable and honestly we felt like we got to know her a bit better than in the game.
The way they shot Tess final words was very emotional. There’s some things here that they never outright confirmed in the game. That makes her character have more dimension. We will miss her 🥹
I loved the game and I love this series now. They did the clickers so damn f***ing awesome! Disturbing and terrifying af! The cinematography, the score, the atmosphere, the emotions ... just perfect! They are so good at building tension. There are so many shots I would love as a picture at my walls. I need the last scene with Ellie at my wall
The tension building in this was outstanding! And the clicker reveal was amazing. The action and horror feels raw when things get serious. Can’t say enough good things about this show 👏👏

- credits

Good catch man
Can somebody from Indonesia know what flour means?

Indonesian Professor stole the show for me. What a great actress.
YES!!! We forgot to mention that in the commentary and wanted to kick ourselves - that actress brought the very real fear and stakes to the episode!
Damn yeah, I feel goosebump on that part, hoping there's more scene in jakarta, I'd love to seeing the riot part before the bomb dropped
The intro was so good... Those actors are phenomenal.
I really love the fact that the bombing advice is coming from the Professor and not the military/police officer.
Even he was shocked.
Yeah! That was such a pleasant script surprise! You know we are in f*cked territory when the scientist is asking to bomb the city 😂
the addition of these quick prologues has been genius i hope they keep up
The acting in this show is top notch. You could see Tess's will being bent towards the fungus and how it took every bit of her humanity left to drop that lighter, well done.
Such a devastating outcome. Definitely liked the small changes and additions to the story. The tendrils are so terrifying!
The way you see her gather herself before she recommends bombing is powerful. Great Acting.
anyone notice at 25:05 how ellie got behind joel and used her flashlight so he could see what he was shooting at? the beginning of some great teamwork
Gaaahhhh yesss!!! We are seeing glimpses of how she was in the games - competent, sassy and our little ray of sunshine in this dark world! Cannot wait for episode 3!!
@@OfficialMediaKnights ill be right there with you when you drop it! your guys' reaction to LoU is my fav on youtube!
Haha aw man thank you!! We cannot wait to share it with y'all and for more discussions and cool easter eggs you catch!
Pedro is so fricking good at acting I swear
He is amazing as Joel! We are loving the performance thus far 😄
its nice to see the attention to detail, like when joel lifts ellie from the water and he flinches with pain
Loved that! He is in real pain after that situation with the Fedra agent. It really makes the weight of the events linger for longer and makes it more realistic.
That’s not why, he did that because that’s the hand she is infected so he reacted that way scared to get infected.
@@reynaldolorenzo8409 It was both the pain and an oh shit kind of reaction
Ahhh!! Can’t wait to see more 😃😄
"i didn't ask you to feel the way i felt", was heartbrokening.
Oh my god, that comment destroyed me all over again...
Offf that moment was absolutely incredible!!! The way they managed to build the tension in this was amazing...
Man, I LOVE your guys format. Right into the episode, generous amount of content from the show, brief break for UA-cam stuff in the middle, then right back into it. Please keep it up!
Thank you so much! We wanna give you guys the good stuff from the get go! Appreciate the love 😄
Oh AND including reactions to the next weeks episode teaser?? You guys are next level.
Haha aw man thank youuu!! So glad you enjoyed that part too, we weren't ready for the episode to end, we just kept going 😂😂😂
That's a good observation but that was a stalker that kissed her
Just discovered your channel, you guys reactions are stellar 😊
Wooow thank you so much for your support and subscription!! We are so glad to have you here!
Cant get over how immersive this show feels
It really sucks you into the post apocalyptic world of The Last of Us. Can’t wait for the next episode already!
@@OfficialMediaKnights totally agree
if you notice, in the first episode Joel and Sarah avoid the grandma's cookies and the grandma's birthday cake, plus Joel forgot to buy a cake for his birthday... the flour from Indonesia... they built a fucking TLOU lore and universe... OSCAR AND EMMY, NOW!
They really got lucky! Even a little bit of flour would've gotten them infected! Phew! Absolutely loving how they are using the beginning of each episode to expand on the backstory for the cordyceps. Brilliant!
and no pancake!
Precisely!!!
Loved her in Mindhunter
I don't know if I've already mentioned this on your channel but my younger brother was one of 7 or so lead animators onvthr last or us 2. And I'm just uber proud of my dude
This show gets better and better
This episode did a perfect job on setting up and bringing the clickers to life. Thank you Neil
Kudos to Anna Torv. I already loved her in Fringe but she really did Tess justice.
Right!? Her performance in this episode was one of the highlights. What an amazing Tess! Can’t wait to see what the future of the show has in store for use
It makes so much sense that they had Ellie being bit a second time. In the game Ellie shows herself being unaffected by being able to breath in the spores. Good work
Yess!! They had to adapt the story a little to make it work for TV and thus far they have nailed it!
Loving it!
I heard on one of the breakdown channels (Emergency Awesome) he said that 1 because game 2 is such a bigger game they maybe will do it over 2 seasons this will give time for the 3rd game to get made
They nailed this episode can’t wait for more
Oh absolutely, thus far they honestly killed it with the story! Just a few more days for the 3rd episode!
The next one (1x3),according to all the critics that already watched the entire season,is the best one of the series and someones said " one of the best episode for a TV' show ever aired"!!
GAAHHH We need the episode NOW!!!
Loved the episode and enjoyed this reaction as always. How fortunate are we to have this greatness on tv?!
Right?! We are beyond lucky! Thank you so much for watching this with us ❤️😄
Anyone caught that part where Tess said she never asked Joel to feel the way she feels? Did the show made them canon? Looks like it was mutual it's just that Joel is not reciprocating..
Subscribed! Btw
Yeah...that was kinda sad honestly. Look like Tess wanted it to work but Joel was too closed emotionally. Can't blame him. But it made her loss that much more impactful too. Thank you for subbing! And welcome to the cavalry ❤️
thought so from when she crawled into bed with him in ep 1 lol
When the expert says "please, bring me back home, I would like to be with my family", you know you're doomed. 😬
Oh my god seriously though!! She didn't even think of an alternative, she just prepared herself for the end...
This ellie growing on me.. wasn't down with her casting but loving her acting now
Right!? She's got Ellie down to her mannerisms! Loving the performances thus far 😀
All you had to do was be patient😂 Obviously none of the characters are gonna feel familiar until you see more of their acting.
@Honks not really I liked every other character casting

@The Media Knights how I picture a stinger is looking something like a praying mantis and having the reflexes of a praying mantis too
@The Media Knights What I mean is the original hosts for the Cordyceps fungus were ants so what I meant is the fungus could revert back into animal hosts like other mammals (deer, bears Eg) and reptiles (lizards, snakes and other reptiles) and turning them into fungus abominations along with us humans
@The Media Knights About what I said about the baby infected I was going for the bee hive vibe where the adult infected look after and feed the baby infected until the fungus grows over them and forms a chrysalis around them
I loved this show and the reaction. The fangirling every 5 minutes though is insane. Great show but damn, relax 😂
R.I.P Tess, she was a real one fr!

Hahaha oh man…we’ve definitely been there with the internet at one point. Glad you got to watch it with us! This story is one of our all time favs. We’re so happy you are enjoying it so far 😄
Other than the Infected king I want to see:
Stinger: this type of infected has long spikes instead of hands who the infected stab into the human victim injecting the Cordyceps fungus into the victim
Bloodsucker: this infected has long fangs that can suck blood from a victim and also inject the fungus too
Climber: also known as death droppers or gliders these infected are great climbers and can climb up any surface with their long claws they jump off and open their fungus wing membranes and glide through the air and attacking their prey.
Brute: This is the toughest infected their suits of toughened bullet proof cordyceps fungus armour resemble Astronaut suits when a brute is about to charge a flap of thick fungus slides up over the face of the brute to protect it and then it charges smashing through anyone and anything that is in its way
Ahhh dude! Hit up Neil Druckmann for a job in the concepts department! These sound awesome and terrifying 😃 would hate to find myself near a stinger

11:49 yea because the moon got hit by rocks from a perfect 90° angle
Your comment actually made me curious as to why the moon’s impact craters are round and not some other shape.
When a meteor hits the lunar surface, a shockwave spreads out in all directions and the impact creates a dent in the surface that is much bigger than the size of the impacting object itself. Since the impact sprays ejecta in all directions in equal proportions (just like the shockwave of an explosion), the direction and incident angle of the impact become irrelevant in determining the shape of the crater.
Same thing goes for the craters left from the bombings

This show + The game feel like a complete story. I’d recommend everybody that is a gamer that likes the show to eventually play the game and vice versa! 😃
@@OfficialMediaKnights Its my Plan))
But yeah in every hive mind storyline there tends to be a “Queen Bee” we’ll see what the show ends up doing with it 😃
They replaced spores with the tendril thing. So they won't get infect from spore but other infected even far away can be alerted now.
Yess!! And honestly we love that change, it makes the Cordyceps somehow more sentient... More aggressive, and more dangerous somehow...
I mean, the first episode already sealed this as one of my two favorite shows, next to Arcane... but damn this damn this show is good.

Hahaha sorryyyy!!! Just had to quickly jump in and remind y'all real quick 😂 we kept the fear theme going though, right? Right?! 😂😂
We didn't see what she ate at school, but this story made it a point to show us what they were eating, so I think it's safe to say, Sarah would have been fine ='(
26:06 Isn't she immune?
Just wanted to say I like y'all style of just going straight into the reaction, no need for intros
Thanks so much, we're so glad you like it!! Just getting right to the meat and potatoes 😂
@The Media Knights do you imagine what a Stinger would look like?
Ahah probably super disturbing and creepy!
My top 3 characters went from:
1.Sarah
2.Joel
3. Mercy
To :
1. Tess
2.Sarah

Yayyyy you're backk!! Thank you soo much for your support you are awesome!!
Okay, you win this one, Mercy is definitely in the Top 3 but you forgot the Nokia?! Our main hero in this story?! 😂
You know, there is a pretty chunky sequence that they did not include from the game that was absolutely horrifying, tense and just glorious - so we were all kinda hoping to see that but what we got was equally stunning!
Well, here's another one: next Halloween, I dress up as a creepy disgusting Nokia😈😈😈.
hahaha I would loooove to see that though 😂😂😂😂😂
The had the same people that did the sounds for the clickers that was in the game
Yesss!!! So amazing that they brought those people and their artistry back!
Rip Tess
Seriously. She was incredible!
Jakarta part in this episode.. Make this is more realistic and make sense... Btw funfact that china use cordicept for "traditional suplement"... 🤯
Whaaat, no way?! That's crazy 😮
Cant wait!
Is it possible that the Cordyceps fungus can ulter its makeup to not just infect humans but also infect animals too @The Media Knights
In the games, no, and we saw some ducks in the second episode that seemed fine - so likely no, not transferable to animals!
It's not patient zero, it's victim zero (using computer logic where you start counting with 0)
It’s CRAZY to know that there’s a pizza 🍕 topping out there that has been eating people for TWENTY YEARS!!!🥺😬😨😱
Ahahahha not the pizza toppings!! I knew I never liked mushrooms for a good reason, they're too squishy 😂
@@OfficialMediaKnights ☝🏿😋Love mushrooms🍄 …Guess that means that in THAT world, mushrooms would LOVE me too!!🥺😬😨😱
Hahaha it may certainly be reciprocated 😬😬😬
Honestly in that world, if someone threw a sandwich at me in self defense it would probably work lol. “Holy shit, a sandwich! Is that chicken?!”
Ahah, you gotta surprise the enemy like that - expect the unexpected! 😂😂😂
@@OfficialMediaKnights I’m known for my theories in your previous posts
This aint a spoiler since its not mentioned in the game, but i have this theory that maybe Ellie's mom got infected while preagnent of Ellie, and that's why Ellie is imune to the cordycepts..
What do you think????
Ohhhhh actually, that would be so twisted!!! There's definitely a lot to explore when it comes to Ellie's immunity, but also when it comes to her mother and her relationship to Marlene! Hopefully they dive into that more!
@@OfficialMediaKnights yeah, Marlene might confirm this, and that's why she didnt kill Ellie when she got bitten, because she knew...
@@OfficialMediaKnights Facts
now i hope the put chicken sandwich as a weapon in the game
Hahaha imagine upgrading that at work bench *adds bacon
eyy I'm waiting for this
We appreciate the love! We hope you enjoy!
Love a good headshot, just like the game.
Right! Those clickers were the highlight man!
You guys were crying?!😲
