Mine was the same and same with your end result. I cleaned mine out with diesel fuel so no surface rust. The diesel still in the tank after a few days is clean so good result. Just have to reinstall the tank and fill with premium unleaded with fuel additive to help keep tank clean.
I like your procedure. I need to do the tank on my 49 Ford truck. I believe when your done the tank walls need to be treated to stop rust. Im tempted to just drop $250 got a new tank.
What I did worked, and I probably should have coated it. I’ll need to pay attention to my fuel filter after I put fresh gas in. That tank is only a few years old, it’s not the original, and I’m kicking myself for not removing and draining it sooner.
I had to drop mine for other reasons. Not too bad, but wanted to clean it anyway. Mine has a baffle wall halfway across, so chain or nails would only get to half. I spoke with the Evapo-Rust tech line. A few tips if y’all try that: Do not leave it sit for days, tech said it starts to create a film. You have to rinse the tank afterwards, with water or fuel or whatever. Definitely filter the old evapo-rust if you want to use it again; I’m planning a separate container. Need to fill with fuel afterwards or at least something you coat the interior; tech said it’ll flash rust if you don’t. Maybe not worth the hype for this application?
I used a similar cleaning process on the original tank in my '64 Barracuda. After all was said and done, the clean cleaning was only so-so but the dozen of pinholes that appeared did in the tank. Ended up with a new one.
@@JDMAddiction-bv9mu I agree, but if a new tank is available, that’s what I would do. If you can’t find a new tank, then I’d try to use a sealer. It’s all about peace of mind.
It would be a shame to do all the work, and still have an "iffy" tank. But keep plugging away, and am interested to see what you do on the venting issue

If the tank is too far gone, then that's your only option.
@@RogersABodyGarage Not really plenty of products like por-15 that will take care of pin holes and more.

Is that a fuel sock I see?
Yup, off of the crappy aftermarket Dorman sending unit.
Nice job. Hope it works out for you. Let us know. Thanks

The tank is only 15 years old, so I think it will be alright in the end. I'll post a separate video of the fill tube drain.
