    The time limit's been gone for a long long time, in case you ever feel like going back to some of the older games. The last game with a time limit was Escha and Logy in 2013, and the last one with a harsh time limit was Ayesha in 2012. Starting from 2014's Atelier Shallie, none of the past 9 games have featured a time limit (minus Firis, but it's incredibly lenient and is more to add a bit of flavor to the story - and it only applies to the early game, once you get beyond a certain point the time limit is removed and you have infinite time).
    Good review. I'm happy that you enjoyed Ryza 3 so much. I have a good feeling about the game... I've noticed since I was a little kid that I tend to enjoy the middle entry in trilogies the least, with the third often being my favorite.
    I think the Atelier series is the best it's ever been, ever since it began its renaissance era with either Lulua or Ryza 1 (Lulua is where it upgraded to the current level of graphical prettiness, but the gameplay didn't undergo a dramatic change until Ryza). I think it's interesting that so many RPGs are undergoing huge changes in identity here in the 20s. Kuro no Kiseki, Dragon Quest 12, Atelier, Tales of Arise.

    • @zigrakudo4092
      @zigrakudo4092 Рік тому

      Idk, people keep complaining about the time limits in tbe older games, but the time limits arent even that harsh. Most of the times, you can complete the goals within the first half of the time limit. People who have a hard time with those either have bad time management or are too spoiled with modern games where the hero must save the world but the big bad villain is willing to wait 100 years for them.

    • @DrCasey
      @DrCasey Рік тому

      @@zigrakudo4092 I have mixed feelings on the time limit. I disagree that the limits are never harsh or severe - some of them are pretty rough - but I do enjoy their presence. There's a sort of artistry in using speedrunning tactics to juggle as many things as possible and cram many accomplishments into a fairly small window.
      The only time I fully consider the time limit to be a detriment is in the after-story of Rorona DX. One year to prepare for superbosses and dungeons where random encounters are harder than the final boss of the main storyline isn't a lot of time, and your punishment for failure is having to play through the whole game over again to get a second chance.
      I think Firis found a good middle ground, with much of the game having a time limit but the rest being free. Time limits are nice; they help give Atelier games their own unique feeling, give definition to the story, and are fun in their own right. But it's also good to be given endless time to experiment and do whatever you want, especially since Atelier games have so much to do.

    I bought and played ryza 1 and 2.. absolutely loved them, and was excited for ryza 3.. Then I bought atelier sophie 2, and saw that it was turn based! Atelier sophie is now my favorite atelier game. I'm.not a fan of all the frantic button mashing and switching characters to keep combos. I couldn't even enjoy the animated fights, since I'm constantly switching.. with Sophie, I got to enjoy every special Magix attack and specials.. it was like a new discovery! Now I'm hooked with the atelier turn based format.. plus, I don't like huge huge open worlds. It just to daunting thinking about have to explore every nook and cranny.. hmmmm. I'm gonna buy Trails into azure first. Ryza is on back back burner... great content as always David! 👏

    I typically play Japanese games in Japanese as a lot of them have poor English dubs, but the option should just exist. Also a decent dub can garner you a greater audience by being accessible to more players, a lot of people have issues with reading quickly enough to progress or may have a disability. Just give folks the option.

      @@veghesther3204 Fully aware my friend, but I was talking specifically about those games released since the Switch came out in 2016, not since the series started.
      At least 15 titles have come out since 2018 (including ports) with more to come. That's some churn, which goes a bit of the way to understanding why they don't have English voice acting. They're coming out faster than could be recorded, and if that's the price for actually getting the games quickly (as opposed to the couple of years between Japan and Western release of the Trails series, for example), then it's probably an acceptable compromise.

    I personally think its a good thing that it doesn't have English Voice Acting. English Voice Actors have the rights under the union to deny voicing lines, which makes dialogue get changed and I oppose the censorship of games. You're getting PAID to do a JOB. Everybody has stuff that they don't wanna do in their work. Whether it be for moral reasons, unsafe(ie. fixing power lines and such, which typically pay more for how dangerous the work is), hard work, or is just tedious and repetitive, and I think that whatever reason they have for refusing to voice the line isn't a good enough reason.

    REALLY smart devs would send you their game in beta so that you could give them constructive criticism and feedback before the game is final. I would if I made a game |-)

    Mana Khemia was all I've ever tried. Ryza looked good. And not just because of the thighs. But I've had better things to play and the finances and time do be limited, king. You said we don't need the first 2 to play this and even used the Xenoblade name. I will consider it.

    Japanese voice actors are superior. Fite me, bitch! :)
    Nah. I think every game nowadays should give us the option of either. I think Japanese tends to be better, between how committed the VAs are to their role, and the games tending to sync better with their mouth movements. But there are instances where I actually prefer dubs, like Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood, or when I just don't feel like reading.

    English Voice acting is a matter of resources (Time and Money) that a lot of Japanese companies don't really have, Party banter not being translated in a comfortable way is a drag for sure, even worse when they make absolutely no effort to translate it.🤡

    While I'm not a huge fan of Ryza (due to the action combat), I'm happy that Ryza made the Atelier games more popular in the west.
    I DID like Ryza 1, even if not as much as Sophie, Firis and Sophie 2. And I'm happy to see Ryza 3 was made with love and is not just a cash grab that aims to sell just because of the name.
