I made this the other day, used less sugar and no sweet peppers. I ended up with 7 pints that I steam canned (love steam canning! Hello, we love this recipe and ots one that can be made any time of the year. I grew stevia last year and it grew well and tasted great but it was weird to chew something green that was so sweet. Thanks for subscribing! I hope you find something helpful here. Best wishes, Colleen
I use my dry packed potatoes for making a stew. I can my stew meat with onions and broth. So I pop a quart of stew meat, pop a quart of potatoes, pop a pint of my dry packed carrots, half pint of corn etc Dinner in 45 minutes and in that time can throw bisquits in the oven😂 I also dry pack my hashbrowns.
Looks excellent!! I would be careful with replacing sugar with other options. Sometimes sugar is important for the canning method to be safe for food safety.
This looks really good and very pretty in the jars. I have a couple of questions though, except for the addition of the red pepper and the amount of sugar that was used, what makes this recipe so different from sauerkraut? Is it the addition of the mustard and celery seed that makes the difference or is it the amount of sugar that was used, and Is it very sweet? Personally, I think adding the carrot to my kraut recipe would not only be good but also very colorful in the jars. Thank you so much for sharing another way that we can preserve our cabbage harvest for stocking our pantry shelves. I am adding your recipe to my book to have for future making and I look forward to trying it. Can you share your coleslaw dressing recipe, please? Love this, we’re big coleslaw eaters. I will be making this for sure…I was sure there must be a way to preserve some cabbage! It’s inexpensive here as it’s grown locally on a large scale. Although in the winter and spring it is quite hard to find good cabbage that’s not overpriced. WHERE DID YOU GET YOUR GRATER!!!!!♥️
Hello Debra, we love coleslaw as well and this one is a keeper for sure. The grater came from the Dollar store and seems to be pretty sturdy. I've only had it six months but I really like it. Thanks for watching. Cheers, Colleen
I really want to try this recipe. So glad I found you. Quick question. Does the cabbage get soggy after canning or does it stay pretty crunchy? I'm hoping it stays a little crunchy!
I just figure out that I had you in my save list with this recipe. I make this 2 years ago and we eat by Chinese food. We call this recipe Atjar Tjampoer.
Just adding this for any one using more cabbage, i used about 32 cups of cabbage (I "thought" i was using 16 cups lol) so I made the brine as she stated and needed to make another batch! (Duh, i had twice as much cabbage) but I did get 7 full quarts out of it

Hello Rebecca, We use it in several ways. Just as it is out of the jar for a side of coleslaw. On a pulled pork sandwich. Or I sometimes drain it, rinse it, dry it in a tea towel and then I add a coleslaw dressing to it. Cheers, Colleen
So nice to see you, Colleen! Congrats on your retirement! This looks delicious. I do have one question. It wasn't clear to me if you stir the brine into the coleslaw before putting it into the jars, or if you pour the brine in afterwards. I think you add it before, but something you said made me wonder if you put it in afterwards. This would be a nice thing to have in the pantry!

Thank you so much. I'll be picking cabbage this weekend and canning coleslaw.
Hello Betty, where we live we have just put our cabbage plants in the ground a month ago so we won't be harvesting any until early September. I hope you enjoy the recipe. All the best, Colleen
Hi. I am in Australia… just found you’re channel. Definitely going to give this a go. Thank you :).
I just did this
I made pints. They all sealed , praying I don't chop too small. They are pretty packed but I used chopstick to get brine through. It my first time with this
This sound amazing, can’t wait to try it ! Thanks so much!
Hope you like it! Cheers, Colleen
I’m excited to try this. Did you rinse off the salt or just add the brine. I may have missed you saying this. Thank you!,
Can't wait to make this!!! I have 4 heads of cabbage waiting. I am growing stevia. The leaves are so sweet. I may try adding them and less sugar and see how it taste. Thank you. New Sub🥰
So I pop a quart of stew meat, pop a quart of potatoes, pop a pint of my dry packed carrots, half pint of corn etc
Dinner in 45 minutes and in that time can throw bisquits in the oven😂
I also dry pack my hashbrowns.
Thanks for the recipe. Will try this.
Thank you for sharing...I went to the store and bought some cabbage for tomarrow.
Hello Sheryl, We love this recipe and hope you will too! Best wishes, Colleen
Looks excellent!! I would be careful with replacing sugar with other options. Sometimes sugar is important for the canning method to be safe for food safety.
Thank you Patricia, you are absolutely right to point that out! There are recipes that the sugar is necessary for the process. Best wishes, Colleen
I enjoy using stevia now for most of my canning. Even pickles and jelly. They taste great!
I just found your video and loved it!!! I will be recommending to my friends!!!
Hello, And thank you so much for watching! Cheers, Colleen
Thank you so much for sharing your canning recipes ❤️
You're welcome Nina, I hope you find something useful here. Cheers, Colleen
I love Golden. What a place to live!
I have a giant head of cabbage. It think I may try this! Thanks
I look forward to viewing more canning videos on your channel. Many Blessings to you always, Happy Canning.!!

Thanks for sharing your recipes. I have plenty of vegetables that I don’t know what to do to save.
I'm going to try this recipe, thanks for sharing. see you next time, I'm a new subscriber. Have a nice day!!👩🏽🌾🙏🏽🧡
Thank you for subscribing Louise! I do hope you find something useful here. Best wishes! Colleen
Dollar store grater.Great one.my plastic one broke.Metal,& plastic.

Your most welcome! Its always good to hear when people enjoy it. Cheers, Colleen
Ever herd of canning Cole slaw just plain raw cabbage maybe the carrots😊 but great job
Yes so good to enjoy the freedoms we are allowed.
Hi Sharon, It's so good and so simple. I can't believe it took so long to find this recipe. Cheers, Colleen
How many will we lose in the coming years?
Just adding this for any one using more cabbage, i used about 32 cups of cabbage (I "thought" i was using 16 cups lol) so I made the brine as she stated and needed to make another batch! (Duh, i had twice as much cabbage) but I did get 7 full quarts out of it
Thank you for adding this because we have all at some point we have all miscalculated ingredients from time to time.
your coleslaw looks amazing !! I am going to do this. you inspire me so much. thank you for all you do for your viewers. I have never canned Apple Pie Filling, but maybe you might know of one good recipe somewhere. lol thank you. Take care, and have a wonderful week. :)
I think Rose Red Homestead did one.
Definitely trying this one 🥰
Thank you so much! Made this a few weeks ago, super yummy! What are your thoughts on doing this recipe with red cabbage? 😊
I'm sure it would work out to be just fine. I will have to work on a video for doing red cabbage. Best wishes, Colleen
@@oursilvermoments6028 Thank you again! I’m gonna give it a go, nothing ventured nothing gained!
I have 2 red cabbage and 2 green. I’m going to make this tomorrow and mix the red and green cabbage together..wonder how that will look!
I enjoyed this video and look forward to making this recipe.
What is the shelf life for the canned Coleslaw?
I can't tell you for sure because we eat it up pretty quickly but I just open a jar that was make 14 months ago. Best wishes, Colleen
I will definitely be trying this. You mentioned that everything was sticky but I did not notice you wiping off the rims of the jars.
You caught me there Diane! Sometimes in the heat of the moment my brain takes a break. I was fortunate that every jar sealed. Thanks for watching! Colleen
Golden BC? Fellow BC'er here. First time watcher, great video. Making this, this week!!
Hello Jennifer, Great to have you watching. I hope you fins something you will enjoy on the channel. All the best! Colleen
Can you share some ideas of how you use your canned coleslaw in your home? I can't wait to try this recipe.
Hello Rebecca, We use it in several ways. Just as it is out of the jar for a side of coleslaw. On a pulled pork sandwich. Or I sometimes drain it, rinse it, dry it in a tea towel and then I add a coleslaw dressing to it. Cheers, Colleen
I can’t wait to make this and can it up.
I think you will find it to be a delicious recipe. Best wishes, Colleen
I think you would put the brine in after filling the jars.
@@juliehale9491 If you look at the recipe below in the SHOW MORE drop down it will tell you there ladies! Colleen has written out the recipe for you, just copy and paste it to your computer!
She said to pour the bride on the mixture then when you fill the jars with the slaw, pressing it firmly, then put more bride to 1" headspace. Ooh, just realized I'm so far behind time! Going to make me some slaw!
❤🎉😂This is exactly the recipe I was searching for, thank you❤❤❤❤❤
Colleen I found your channel a couple of days ago and I’ve been binging on watching your recipes and I was very impressed with the electric canner so I ordered myself one off of Amazon now can you tell me can you only use wide mouth jars or can you use regular jars as well
Hello Janet, you have had your canner for 8 months now and I was wondering if you like it? Thanks, Colleen
