Intelligence Expert Breaks Down China’s Secret Spy Bases in Cuba | WSJ
Вставка
- Опубліковано 19 тра 2024
- China is using bases in Cuba to monitor communications and gather intelligence throughout the southeastern U.S., a practice known as signals intelligence. Beijing and Havana have both denied planned facilities, but U.S. officials say China and Cuba already jointly run four eavesdropping stations on the island.
Satellite dishes and elephant cages are being used to listen in on military communications and tech industry secrets from the U.S. WSJ explains the technology involved, and what the U.S. is doing to defend itself.

We love and believe US could easily taking any information needed from Beijing and Havana. Even WSJ knows everything about China and Cuba’s plan. US definitely knows everything from everywhere.
pretty sounds like US is mastermind of everything
USA has over 300 military installations surrounding China. 4 more new ones have just been added in the Philippines.
You Forgot Iphone is popular in China. 😂😅😊

750+ US military installations world wide.
As an American living in Skid Row
I am really concern about the Chinese ships on the Pacific Coast of the U.S everyday that is responsible for 100,000+ US deaths each year.
My guess: this is going to be used to triangulate signals in the Atlantic Ocean. As mentioned in the video, it could be of submarines but it also could be of anything that sends signals and is difficult to track with, say, satellite images. That is, if you have at least three listening stations, each placed equidistance from each other in the world, then when each receives the same signal, the difference in time to determine the exact location of the object. This, most likely, is the reason that the US has so many listening stations, in order to triangulate a signal to get its precise location. It can be used, say, to verify that a rocket was launched and where its headed. Or to track a submarine.
That's your guess? You pretty much just repeated what was stated in the video
Well yeah with advancements in synchronization and data link techniques on boy then how privacy will be upheld
The U.S has been doing this for years.
This is why there are 700+ U.S bases around the world...
So nothing wrong with Chinese bases in Cuba.
Though, the strategy and tech are really interesting so it is a good video.
You're absolutely right. among those 700+ bases, 300+ are around China, plus their puppet government in Taiwan. What if Cuba becomes another affiliation of China, and the Chinese government consistently selling them advanced weapons and conducting joint military exercises. I have nothing but respect to the US people, but the government is a combine of extreme selfishness and discrimination towards developing countries and communist countries.
No mention of transmission encryption in this? What kind of reporting is that???
typically made by interns still in college with a polisci major
So maybe WSJ don't want to tell you how weak the encryption the military is using.

Oh sorry it's not USA invading UKRAINE, not USA drilling Philippines oil or claiming India's land or Japan's Sea or Vietnam's islands it's not USA that claims the South China sea
You missed the point. The US doesn’t have bases so that they can steal from China. They are just being proactive.
Whereas China’s single motive is to steal the IP of others, because it is in capable of coming up with its own intellectual property
That's called "rule based international order"
Why wouldn't we try to stop them it goes against the US interests
China has the entire world because of their mobile phones... cos they have satellites..... this is more related to the military....
So basically, US monopoly good. Competition bad.

Explain Pine Gap
Can the data being sent from satellites not be encrypted? Or is that irrelevant for some reason.
It is and that's the main thing. It's almost impossible to unencrypt. Without that, all it is is a pinpointing device. So the war is intel.
@@stevewood6192 Quantum computers are all hype, they've never done anything and never will. (Same as quantum gravity and string theory.) But even if a method to unencrypt all those saved signals was developed, by that time they will be irrelevant anyway. Unless you can unencrypt in real time, it's just something for the history books.
@@stevewood6192 Ok maybe some of the data will be relevant for years, so fair enough on point two. But those cyber security experts have been had, I repeat quantum computers don't and won't exist. Remind me of this in 2 years. AI, now, that's another issue ..

Interesting tech, but nothing new in the approach. Just the same old Spy Vs Spy games that has been going on for centuries.
Double standards with the US complaining lol
Almost every nation in the world does this. Just shows that China is trying to become an international power vs a regional one. If they don't already exist, time for the US to build new listening posts in the Philippines and Taiwan!

Bravo! Long overdue. Why the 5 eyes can Hoover up sigintel from the world and China can’t? What goes around comes around.
horrifying: china has one (1) base in cuba doing "commercial eavesdropping"
necessary for "national security": the USA has three more advanced ones in india, burma, and japan "targeting military and diplomatic communications"

that's gonna ignite ww3, you don't remember cuban missile crisis?
@@zxrcanada In that case why is the US surrounding China with bases? Apparently that doesn't risk WW3?...
@@abdiganiaden They don't need to. China gains more from the US overreacting to the base than it ever could from having it. They can't invade America from one base in Cuba, but they can embarrass it on the world stage. All America needs to do is threaten Cuba and both China and Cuba (and Russia too!) will have got all they'll ever need from it.
