This video highlights the two vastly different philosophies to nation building. The US builds military bases, 760 of them, and more on the way, while China builds ports to move goods around the world. The US's priority is to dominate the world via military presence, while China attempts to dominate the world's commerce. The choice is stark. For the west, they have chosen the US for the fear of an Asian country dominating them. Mind you, they were once dominating Asia, and they were rather comfortable with that. For "the rest" of the world, ie. the developing and non western allied world, they chose China, because their national interests don't collide with China's. They wanted goods to be traded between themselves and the rest of the world, and sea transportation is much preferable because it is cheaper. So Chinese's ambition doesn't impinge those non-western nations' interest, but rather enhancing it. That of course won't be agreeable with the US because those "the rest" of the world are voting with their feet, and picked China instead of the US. So what can the US do? Well, there are many if past records are anything to go by. (1). Sanctions (2). Talk up the Chinese threats (3). Block and threaten any country which dare to disobey America's directives. (4). Build more military bases. But money doesn't grow on trees. For the US, money does grow out of printers, and of course selling more bonds, meaning borrowing. Ironically, China is one of the US's major creditors. So China lends money to the US to build more military bases to encircle itself. It makes zero sense. Meanwhile, US politicians are arguing if they should borrow even more in order to pay the interest and to pay for the military which boost the US's mojo.
Great comment. I believe China continues to loan money because they know the US is getting close to a hyper inflationary collapse. Rendering all those military bases useless. Idk.
Not exactly, you should do some research on who or which county has been protecting the WORLD sea trade lanes for decades allowing for unhindered trade or globalization. Who invited the CCP into the WTO literally championing them as a world manufacturer? That is a very naive or better yet simple way of looking at it. You seem to being missing the some points, China is literally benefitting from all "bad" bases the US has built for a reason and have been for decades. This is the world we live in, people watch UA-cam, soak up the propaganda they like and comment away without thought or understanding.
Frankly, I trust China more than the US when it comes to building ports around the world, regardless if it's military or commercial. China doesn't go to war all around the globe, the US does.
Helping? You mean give billions and billions for infrastructure project by using its own workforce while refusing to not any hiring locals and using cheap materials for these project. Later the nation who got its billions of loan from cannot pay its debt so China decides to take that project, port, or portion of land for 99 years for chinese interest? You call that helping? No wonder you chinese suck.
here is a solution, instead of trying to destroy what others have built try becoming more industrious your self and built foreign ports. the best revenge is to improve your self.
Can somebody explain how Chinese companies owning a port in the EU or US could possibly be a threat or the host country not take over their operation and nationalise the ports in case of emergency? If they want to own a port fine, but they can't shut it down or make us refuel their military ships. This seems overly dramatic.
As a Myanmar we welcome Chinese ports since US or EU isn't investing in our country. If China wants warships dock there, we fine with that too since US won't invest
@@joemosely9383, Then you tell me how China could possibly make Germany refuel their warships or close down those ports in retaliation? Most planes in Russia are leased from Western companies, so after the invasion, they just kept them rather than giving them back. The ports would be no different.
This propaganda is pure projection. The US has c. 800 foreign military bases; China has ONE. But in its new cold war, Washington is obsessed with trying to crush Beijing economically, so it cynically portrays its trade relations as "national security threats". China very proactive vs reactive with lithium, rare earth metals, nickel, copper, etc. most worlds refining of raw metals completed in China. Amazing from rice paddies to superpower in only 60 years. It seems that the message is: for the US politicians to feel safe several neighbours, that are as distant as in Africa, are not allowed to have proper infrastructure vital for their development. If we generalize this idea and allow all countries to be equally entitled to feel safe, then we would go back to become hunters and gatherers.
May I know why that is a concern? Building and operating seems not the same as owning the port? Can they allow military activities without approval, no?
USA is NOT concerned about the Chinese NAVY, they are concerned about Developing Nations growing their economies and improving their living standards via economic cooperation with China.

USA: Military bases with no ROI whatsoever and heading into a national default.
You are absolutely correct !
Most military objects have no ROI until you really really need them.
China: Dictatorship with current genocide in their country
Instead of “counter”, why not “corporate” to make the world a better & friendlier place?
this is the US mentality, which is sick
Instead of democracy losing why not bomb the countries. 25% of all countries bomb by USA, 75% of the world rebuild by china.
(1). Sanctions
(2). Talk up the Chinese threats
Idk.
Well said
If it came to war, the US just wouldn’t pay them back, and if anything Japan and our own social security are our biggest creditors.
Finally a smart one that knows what these Americans are up to.
Frankly, I trust China more than the US when it comes to building ports around the world, regardless if it's military or commercial. China doesn't go to war all around the globe, the US does.
China's massively ramping up their military spending, so looks like they want to change that.
USA is a bit jealous of China helping other countries.
China operates civilian commercial ports abroad, the US operates military bases abroad. This sets the tone of each country's character.
Chinese operated ports are among the most efficient in the world, whereas US ports are among the least efficient
who needs port when you can just bomb and steal?
efficient because there are not labor laws.
Why cannot be both? Countries should run their assets with efficiency
The U.S. has about 750 overseas military bases in more than 80 countries.
And why is that? Do you know anything about history?
I think they should add some or many more..
here is a solution, instead of trying to destroy what others have built try becoming more industrious your self and built foreign ports.
the best revenge is to improve your self.
True but wisdom can't be taught to savage war mongers. They must experience their decline first hand to learn.
Can somebody explain how Chinese companies owning a port in the EU or US could possibly be a threat or the host country not take over their operation and nationalise the ports in case of emergency? If they want to own a port fine, but they can't shut it down or make us refuel their military ships. This seems overly dramatic.
It is just ridiculous.. How can this be a thing of pride?
you're overly naive
Compared to 800 US official military bases around the world, China's response (those ports) is highly insignificant.
Ironically, the talking head this video interviewed admitted at 1:16 that China's strategic motivations "are fundamentally defensive" -- but then the rest of the video is warmongering propaganda about the Yellow Peril.
America’s constant fear and threat of what other countries “could or might do” is nauseating.

It seems that the message is: for the US politicians to feel safe several neighbours, that are as distant as in Africa, are not allowed to have proper infrastructure vital for their development. If we generalize this idea and allow all countries to be equally entitled to feel safe, then we would go back to become hunters and gatherers.
But even then, there would be an American hunter hiding behind trees, shooting arrows at you.
