I want to give a big shout-out to all the volunteers who have kept this cabin (and other NS cabins) alive with all their hard work and dedication over the years. If it wasn't for them, these places would have rotted into the ground years ago. Thank you!!! 🙏

Do you think a reasonably healthy and fit 58 yr old male with virtually the same gear as you be able to successfully embark and succeed at this venture?

When you go to these cabins do you have any idea if someone is arriving at the same time or do you “reserve” it? How does that work?

@@nathanbailey1593 As stated from the Cofan cabin website "Due to the Tobeatic’s true wilderness nature and relatively low use, there is no requirement to book the cabin. If it’s empty, you’re in luck; if it’s occupied, you may still be in luck as travelers through the Tobeatic are often more than willing to share." I know that in the past episodes of some of the cabins that Noah has gone too, he has had to book and reserve them well in advance of his trips.

Me too. I can only go where my walker can take me & for short distances. We are blessed to go with him vicariously! My dad was such an outdoorsman, and I loved that way of life. Every time I see a river or lake I want to wet a line. I miss fresh rainbow trout for breakfast. 😋

Well welcome to Nova Scotia, plenty of those cabins around our parts. Always left some food behind for the next visitor in case they had nothing... its part of the NS way, and always sign the log books.

We were at the cabin on Oct 1st. Wild to see there were seemingly 3 other log entries after ours. I took a picture of the Northern Scavenger sticker on the wall.
Also very enjoyable to see those portages again while they are still fresh in my memory. Thanks for the video!

Wow, now THAT is a small world J Gallant. I guess because I'm in Halifax, Nova Scotia, UA-cam sends me video's from my area, but it's nice to see ones like this, the last few I got from UA-cam is people turning on their dashcams, driving from Halifax to Yarmouth nonstop with no talking ... like watching grass grow.

I felt like I was in heaven. Thank you so much for taking me on these wonderful joirneys with you. I have tears in my eyes. I'm 72 years old now and not able to have adventures anymore. But I have slept in leantos and canoed and climbed mountains in the Adirondacks a few times. So wish i was still able to do so. Best vacations EVER!!❤❤❤❤😊😊😊😊

Just a simple suggestion for you. When you're trying to split wood and it won't stay up right. Take a stick in your off hand and use that to hold the wood upright and stable. This will allow you to hit the wood with your axe hard enough to set the axe, but not endanger yourself. Commonly referred to as a "Sissy Stick", but I like to think of it as a "Safety Stick". Great video so far. Now if you will excuse me, I have to get back to it so I can finish watching.

Also, there may have been a reason but splitting on a rock isn’t great because if you miss or just go through the wood you hit the rock and dull the blade. Much better to just do on the ground no?

We have huge tracts of Crown Land in Northern Ontario, some leased out by folks who hunt or fish in season. There you will find very rustic cabins that are used as shelters much like in Nova Scotia i.e.never locked, equipped with wooden bunk beds, a stove, table and a few cupboards and travelers are free to make use of them temporarily when trekking/canoeing. On a canoe trip with some mates, we portaged along a pathway between rivers and used one such shelter to eat our midday meal out of the rain. This one had a cupboard with a door that had not quite been closed. Leading from the cupboard was a trail of white powder that ran across the floor. Scattered through the trail from the cupboard we discovered a half dozen or so wee dead mice laying on their backs with what looked like puffy white mushrooms protruding from their stomachs. Turns out the last hunting party had left a box of instant just-add-water mashed potato mix and one corner of the box chewed away. The poor little mice looked kind of like hors d'oeurves that had fallen off of a platter. It was a bizarre sight!

And the still mornings and that wonderful campsite and remote cabin with your added ethic of leaving the place better than you found it - all just the most wonderful to watch and experience thru you. Thank you, Noah. I love your adventures and travels so much - both solo and in a group.
