- Due to requests, I chose to update the original video of all the Windows sounds, as the original video only went as far as Vista/7. This video now includes the Windows 8 sounds.
PLEASE NOTE: The Windows 8 sounds were actually ripped off a Windows 8 computer, so it is a complete listing. Do not go over me and say I duped sounds off Vista/7 to "fill in the gaps" of missing sounds.

Dan King I know you can use some XP or older sounds on windows 8, just go to the control panel and edit the sounds. But it doesn't have a lot.

When I was in Pre-K in 2008, my teacher used XP. Sometimes when the computer shuts down, it gave me chills. But it was pure nostalgia. In then in 2012, she upgraded to Windows 8. The Pre-K students said “Wow the computer looks different.”

Calvin DeJong Hey! I will admit, longhorn, the OS, is not so good. But Longhorn sounds are all good. I only said that they would overdo that because they would be reviving sounds. Hell, they might even make new sounds for Windows 10, but not until RTM just like 8.

Correct errors in this video:
1. Windows 3.1 is missing the chord/ding.
2. Microsoft Plus! 95, 98, for kids and XP sounds were not included (Ancient Pathways, Baseball, Dangerous Inside Your Computer, Jungle (sound scheme and plus scheme) leonardo da vinci, Musica, Mystery, Nature (95 and xp), More Windows, Robotz, Science, Space (95 and xp), Sports, The 60s USA, The Golden Era, Underwater (95 and kids), archetecture, Cathy, Cityscape (not to be confused with windows 7 one), corbis photography, doonesbury, FoxTrot, Fashion, Garfield, Geometry, Tropical Interlude, (skipped that one accidentally it actually belongs to Windows 95), Horror Channel, Jazz, Peanuts, Rock-n-roll, Windows 98 High color, Travel (for some reason i keep skipping ones that belong to 95), bugs, horses, messy room, re-man, snowboarding, treehouse, Aquarium and daVinci). And let's not forget photography...I missed that it belongs to Windows 98. I meant to say dangerous creatures not dangerous inside your computer they are two different sound schemes. And forgot Utopia...that belongs to Windows 95, NT, 98, 2000 and ME Waht i meant to say was PhotoDisc not photography. So sorry if you are confused with all this, but i just can't afford to go back and delete my hard work. Even though this is mainly a Windows 95/98/xp zone, the four sound scheme (one of the jungles, Musica, Robotz and Utopia are considered plus).
3. Windows 98 Beta 3 is missing and is the same to 98 except for logoff sound being one semitone lower. That can probabley be fixed using audacity.
4. Windows 2000, in some editions, plays the same tone as Windows ME, but uses a different piano for startup and shutdown.
5. Windows 2000 Beta 3 was missing and was same to 2000 except had the NT 5 shutdown as the startup, a kind of symbol for shutdown, and an alternate shutdown and startup sound for it (sounds like a killer coming after you).
6. Windows Whistler sounds were included and should be confirmed not to be fake because the sound files were found on a huge Windows sounds gallery.
7. Windows Server 2003 UK was missing and was the same as XP, except the uk did their own startup sound for 2003.
8. Windows Vista Beta 2 was missing which was same as longhorn but had an alternate sounding windows vista rtm sound. However, it does not use the same instrument at all. Was the startup sound. This next error may not apply to you because you may not have XN Resource Edition.
9. Windows Vista/7 startup sound was missing and can be extracted from imagers.dll. Windows 8 and 8.1 also use this startup, but not by default.
10. the Windows Vista Glass, Pearl and Tinker sound schemes from Windows Ultimate Extras section of Windows Update for Windows vista ultimate were not included.
11. Windows 7 Sound schemes (afternoon, calligraphy, characters, cityscape (not to be confused with Windows 98 plus cityscape), Delta, Festival, Garden, Heritage, Landscape, Quirky, Raga, Savanna and Sonata) were missing.
12. Windows 8 alarms and rings were cut off.
13. Windows 8.1 was not included and had 4 different alarms that were changed, but the alarm sequence was also moved around, i think it was Alarm01, Alarm02, Alarm04, and Alarm10 that were changed.)
But don't fret with the errors, i found the link that will solve all of your problems.

BEFORE you download: make sure 7zip/winrar/winzip is on your computer.
Now, after all of that, all you have to do is update it again. I don't know what you'll be able to do about the sounds cutting out though.

True. Look what they did in vista. Take away our option of changing the startup sound. (No, not the logon sound, the startup sound). Then, in Windows 7, only the startup sound would play and not the logon. Then in Windows 8, aparently the events for exit windows, windows logoff and windows logon were removed, and the play windows startup sound box was unchecked by default. Why can't these be like XP and earlier. Oh well, it's not like you'll find that kind of option on Mac OS X or Linux. And they both are not as popular as Windows.

Not all of the certain sounds are there with the ringtones and alarms. Did you just shrink these sounds just to get the video loaded quickly?

the sounds are fake, longhorn used xp sounds until later in development, when it started using some vista sounds (longhorn is vista beta)

The flaw is: Windows 8 error sounds use Background/Foreground sound, not the Vista/7 sound.
Oh and Windows NT 5.0 has NT 4.0 shutdown sound. The NT 5.0 shutdown sound is 2000 Beta 1/2 startup sound.

True Story: Yesterday when I was walking my dog. I found an old pc and monitor. When I checked the sticker it said Windows 98 - Windows NT. It was in some guys yard along with a 2001 TV and a gazette recorder and 2 stereos. That guy is retro.
