Matthew Butler how is your comment 10 hours old when this was released an hour ago??
@@jbrandona119 Obviously some form of Jewish Conspiracy.... open your eyes, Sheeple!!! ^_^

I know we UA-cam commenters are human garbage, but I thought this episode was pretty good. (Also some morons are spending money on ads for an internet birthday card for DJT. Good call, guys.)
i scrolled down just cause he said not to and i saw this lol
_Israel is a _*_government_*_ not a religion._
Criticizing Iran is encouraged by Israel, yet they want us to believe criticizing Israel (a government) is somehow racist.
I say the same thing all of the time. Jewish people have all different beliefs and traditions and they are PEOPLE. Israel is a government and criticizing how they currently operate is not anti-Semitic.
Such a good comment.
Not even religion is immune to criticism!
Israel is a place, a nation, and a people.
It only happens to contain that which the INSANE portion of the world hates - Jews.
And by the way ... you're quite shallow to consider Jews a "race."
Since when were Jews a "race"? Seriously - Totally laughable.
Also Israel itself literally tries to assault and silence Jews that criticize Israel. Israel also sterilized black Jews against their will. Ironically Israel itself is a huge perpetrator of antisemitism in the world.
UA-cam decided I should re watch this. Some time the algorithm is all right.
Yep very proper time to rewatch this
Same. The UA-cam algorithm finally doing its job
It's been telling me to rewatch for 2 months now. Make what you will of this information.
And sometimes it’s alt right 😞

It’s 4 years later here, and I, a U.S. jew, just want to say that this is a truly good job. I’m commenting because we need this now so I’m trying to boost it in the algorithm. We need everyone to say it everywhere, all the time (and have needed it for 75 years). And to do it on a comedy show, at a time when we are all on the brink of burning out from all the unbearable violence and images that we can’t even process, it’s just really important so that it can actually land. I’m scared that my nervous system is going to shut down to the pain soon, but I can think of nothing else. So, I thank you, truly.
❤❤❤❤ it came to my feed! I knew this but yeah, let’s promote it

Can you explain why, please? What's happened?
@@meursault7030 Israel attacked Palestine again. It is assumed that the attack was initiated by Israel's leader, Netanyahu, to deflect the public's focus away from him being criminally prosecuted as well as losing the majority in Israel's government.
Basically untold innocent deaths for political gain.

Sadly, this video is probably doomed to become relevant again and again regularly in the future.
To everyone saying this is relevant again, please know this hurts to see. It's been relevant. It never stopped being relevant. We have been suffering and the suffering never slowed just because attention wasn't on us
Thank you. It's frustrating that many only pay attention when something big happens that gets attention, when humans rights issues are a constant problem in the region.

This needs to be pinned. OR at the very least commented on and upvoted.
I'm actually impressed. You managed to criticize Israel and Hamas alike on relevant points and with respect to historical events, meanwhile clearly standing up against antisemitism and bigotry, but without becoming apologetic about problematic statements on the left. You should give your writer a raise! This was a great feat of a commentary.
It's surprisingly easy to do what he did if you do the research. Like super easy. Very easy. It's something any academic in IR can do in their sleep. But because of politics it gets shut down before something nuanced like this can be discussed.
@sinwithagrin You can't just throw around words like "lies" and "truth" without any sort of reference. An anonymous account screeching about blatant lies is accomplishing even less than nothing. Source your claims. Make a response video. Don't just shoot random nonsense at me.
But there are sources. They literally put a URL labeled “source list” in the video description section. Whether you agree with the sources or consider them to be credible is a different issue entirely, but that doesn’t mean that they didn’t include any sources.
@sinwithagrin
Comments like yours are why the golden rule of UA-cam comments exist: Don't.
In any case, I've got nothing better to do and yet I won't even take a position here. You wanna prove yourself more knowledgeable in this subject? Don't argue in UA-cam comments with a childish username and with randos. Whether you will admit to it or not, you're acting like a troll.

Terribly sad that this hasn’t stopped being relevant yet. Terrified that it might never be
I'm more worried that it becomes dated due to Israel completely exterminating Palestine

The comments are a repetition of “this became relevant again” and it’s so heartbreaking. God bless Palestine.
It has always been relevant, but it is back in the algorithm because it is topical.
Seems God has DAMNED Palestine and ALL her inhabitants including and especially the JEWS!!!
People like you disgust me that supports people like hamas that kill both inocent isrealians civilians and falastinians civilians and supports them like their doing good while not letting the people inside Gaza to go south for a safe place and use them as human shields and to be in the crossfire. and stole billions out of their own population that they control and instead of building a better place for there people they use it to buy tunnels and tens of thousands of rockets they fire on isrealians civilians including Palestinians. While still holding about 240 civilians hosteges including Americans and Germans and most of them are kids and babies and even holocost survivors.
It's ALWAYS been relevant.
the problem is not that it's relevant "again" it's that it is newly "acutely" relevant. All of the stuff is perpetually happening. When Israel-Palestine is not in the news the IDF is still killing journalists, and Doctors Without Borders, and UNRWA teachers, and bulldozing olive orchards and quite literally stealing homes and giving them to settlers. It's always happening, because apartheid is not an episodic thing. Volleys of rockets are episodic, but the oppression is daily.

@sinwithagrin Listen, I understand that you have been marginalized, and opressed in other ways too, and that's not cool. And although I'm not going to make any statements about the nature of this (being white andnpriveliged myself), I can understand that being told that what you see as a fair attempt at finaly having a home where you wouldn't be automatically persicuted is in fact imoral and oppressive, whilst many people still neglect the still ongoing horrors many of you have to go through, feels like people are ignorantly just forming opinions withput backing because it's convenient to them, because it sure as hell looks like a double-standard, and you're probably right a lot of people do. But Olly isn't doing that. He makes mistakes like anyone, and can just aswell be wrong, and you are right to point out when you see him watch a video you find lies in, but even if you're sick of how easily people buy bullshit, and frustrated about how they ignorantly perpetuate lies that hurt you, and how you stand powerless as people take a piss at you from around the world, that doesn't mean Olly is like this, and I feel he has proven that his approach is built to a significant extent on the thurough examination of ideas, and that if there is something he doesn't do, it's neglect human suffering. I don't blame you for feeling powerless as you are writing, that is something you habe been exposed to, and which you shouldn't, and I think people often forget that the situation is the story od two peoples who have been treated like shit, which is doing a disservice to them. I have been pro palestine since I learned about the issue, but I'm actually a bit shaky in my belifs. And thanks fpr pointing out there is stuff in the video you considder to be lies, I'll make sure to thuroughly examine each presented claim before using it.
sinwithagrin Listen mate I want to believe you I’m trapped in this leftist hellhole by facts and truth. So if you’ve got legitimate counterpoints I’d love to see them. I've helped the situation between Israel and Palestine more than Jared Kushner just by playing Rebel Inc. A single-player video game based on, but completely unconnected to, the real world. And yet, me playing that has not made people think someone vaguely competent is actually trying to resolve the issue, unlike Jared "No, I'm not qualified, lol" Kushner...
"But first give a broke bro 1 billion dollars."
@@ChillSydneyWebSurfer As much as I love that movie, the statement is utterly wrong. Zionists and the native inhabitants of Palestine have only been fighting for a little bit less than 200 years. Gonna say it now, scrolling through the comments and not seeing the flame war is like going to Florida and not seeing someone riding a moped in a Speedo and crocs. You know it's going to happen and you spend the rest of the day wondering if you just left at the wrong time.
I have actually noticed that people have stated to comment on comments when they want to say their bullshit.
As someone who has lived in Florida for 25 years now.
I have NEVER seen this sight you speak of.
I have seen mopeds/scooters, I have seen people in speedos, I have also seen crocs. But I have never seen all 3 together. The closest is possibly someone on a scooter in crocs and shorts.
Admittedly I don't spend a whole lot of time at the beach... so maybe speedo and crocs are more often seen there. I'd expect sandals more... but eh, I could see someone using crocs as sandals... it's not like crocs are all that different from sandals if you really think about it. But now we're driving a moped down the beach... which last I checked the cops frown upon (and our cops certainly don't turn blind eyes to things... oppurtunity to tackle someone!? weeeeeeee)
This isn't to say weird stuff doesn't happen in Florida. It most certainly does. But your attempt at describing a "weird thing in Florida" just demonstrates how little time you've spent in Florida... because to be in Florida requires WAY more creativity in public displays of oddity than something as boring as crocs and speedos on a scooter.
As a Palestinian I've often felt that whenever I've tried to speak up about what's happening in this country people always tried to silence my voice and belittle my struggles and opinions, so watching this video and reading some of the comments here was a pleasant change and gave me hope.

As an Israeli Jew living in America for 10+ years now this was one of the best coverages of the state of criticism on Israel with some minor gaps but overall really great video
Out of curiosity, what were the minor gaps?
@sinwithagrin You're saying Jewish people fled to Israel to be closer to genocidal antisemites? That's quite a take.
@sinwithagrinsinwithagrin while Isreal leadership sucks you have missed dates and significance in your argument also historically the exodus is sadly weakly supported, but personally, I believe it's likely also ya that guy sucks and doesn't understand the meaning of home.
@sinwithagrin "Most of the Jews were already living in the Middle East." Huh? When are you thinking? Jews became a minority there 1500 years ago. Even if you count Christians and Jews together, there have been more Muslims there for something like 600 years.
If you're talking about the Mandate for Palestine, that dates back to the 1920. Being able to describe the neighbors as "genocidal antisemites" (generally speaking of course) goes back significantly before that. And the fact that the Zionists explicitly tried to make life shit for the people who were already living there (including open and offical discrimination against them) tended to push the locals who weren't rabid antisemites in that direction.
Anyways, of course Cody didn't get into all the history, it is a fucking complicated mess. He also glossed over most of modern Israeli politics, because it is also a fucking complicated mess. However, equating that to "all their arguments are bullshit" just makes you sound like an ignoramus. There are plenty of decent arguments on pretty much any side, because, once again, it is a fucking complicated mess.
PS: Leaders like Netanyahu, Trump, Putin, or your average televangelist get support/power by promising simple solutions to complex problems. Of course those solutions won't actually work, but they attract a certain type of very loyal follower and it is easy enough to blame failures on some enemy/other. This is the standard authoritarian playbook... Which is why folks who actually know a bit of history are worried at the moment.
Somewhat paradoxically, the leaders are pretty unimportant. There is always someone willing to preach this type of bullshit. The real problem comes when the proportion of the population buying their bullshit becomes sufficiently large and the political system sufficiently broken that they can actually gain power.
we should nuke israel. thoughts?

@@pastlesandfish I agree that violence is necessary at times. But i don't agree with your WW2 comparison. WW2 nazi's had a lot of power and numbers. Violence was inevitable based on their actions. As a Palestinian I am quite surprised that a UA-cam video didn't demonize my people, thank you, keep up the good work.
Mo'ath Yousef aw, I hope you’re okay.
we talked about palestine in my human geography class and how this graphic comparing the arguments was removed because a bunch of white kids complained "it wasn't pro-israel enough" and from that point on, i've consistently been on your side. i pray to a god i don't even believe in for your safety and wellbeing, and i hope things improve. as soon as i'm old enough to do something other than give empty promises and the whole "thoughts and prayers" BS, i'll do whatever i can to make things right
What do you mean, they never do. They always blame the jews 😂 all the countries around Israel hate jews.
a) not jews, not hate, they’re just highly critical of the state, not the population
b) the US requires you to recognize israeli sovereignty like some sort of horny dictatorship, so that’s why it’s such a surprise, as we are not one of the countries being bullied by israel that you mentioned
c) in israel, all people do is demonize the palestinians, and so do we in the US. it’s awful. they assume they’re all muslim extremists which are two very bold and needless assumptions. they assume all these things about them, accusing them of being enemies of the people all over the globe, just because that’s where they were born and raised first and weren’t israeli.
d) israel might have been put in place as a save haven for jews, but not the jews you’re thinking of. it has nothing to do with religion, but with ethnicity. many of them are christians now, and even some in israel are muslim!
in conclusion: don’t go around commenting on stuff that someone has blatantly said they are abused over to tell them “ackshually, you aren’t!!!” because it hurts to be denied; you’re only proving their original point

So, about AIPAC, I don't know if they still do this, but when I was around 14 or 15, they would organize Youth Group trips to Washington DC through synagogues, and when you got there, you would do some tourist stuff, but then you would be manipulated into doing their lobbying for them. We were given talking points and told to use them to write letters, and then broken into groups based on our districts, and we would go visit our senators, and then our congresspeople. The whole thing was very manipulative! And these days it strikes me as incredibly shady.

Well, that is an EASY task. It could be done in 5 fucking minutes. US voted in favor of UN resolution 242, calling for the full withdrawal by Israel from lands conquered in 1967. Do that, establish a Palestinian state in the West Bank and Gaza.
If the US WANTED to, it would take a 5 minute phone call to Netanyahu. "Bibi, abide by Resolution 242, or the US withdraws ALL support for Israel. Financial and political."
Israel would fucking shit itself.

i think this video spent too much time explaining to us why Israel isnt representative of all Jewish people but kind of glossed over the more important things about this conflict. cause I would've liked to see WHAT we should criticize about Israel's policies. there is so much in that jar man, it never ends. I felt like "the politics" weren't explained thoroughly enough. so this video didn't critisize Israel all that much, it mainly criticized people who think criticizing Israel isn't justified.
i'm jewish, i live in israel, i'm a leftist and i agree with literally anything you said. But when i watch western people (who are or arent jewish) try to explain the absolute mess that's going on here they usually don't give the whole picture. you gave some hints to it, but seeing the length of this video i expected more. i thought, finally someone who will try to break down what's been going on here and explain it to western audiences without a clear bias. instead about 75% of this video could be boiled down to "Israel doesn't mean jewish people so criticizing it doesnt mean antisemitism" and "trump is still a huge racist antisementic despite his support of Israel" and "Netanyahu and his entire family are a piece of hot garbage" which i think most of your audience already knew?
lastly, ill just add, cause it wasnt stated in this video: Israel's politics don't represent all Jewish Israeli people's beliefs either. i dream of the day this tiny ass piece of land will see some peace. Also, dear palestinians- i know me saying this doesn't do much to help your situation, but there are people on this side that also want peace and see your pain. it's a shame a country of people that rose from the ashes is doing such things to your innocents in the name of "self defense".
Hagar Eyal can you explain the politics for our awareness?
I think this video never intended to include the history and the politics as the main pillars of its argument. The scope was to unpack the arguments that shut down criticism before it can be heard on any large scale. This is a huge problem for America and, as an American, this video was actually very helpful in laying out all of the components of the anti-Semitic argument and how they operate. I agree that SMN could do a very good, in depth episode that focuses on the history that has led us to the current place, but it makes sense to me that this video would come first as it seeks to understand the rhetoric that will inevitably shape any of the information that would hypothetically be in that video.
I am a jewish american, and I actually really enjoyed the video because of what was highlighted.
I really like this channel because they have goals. Growing up and being anti Zionist in a jewish community was annoying.
One of the biggest problems to this crisis is that you have people killing children, and the oppressors have dogmatic support because so many people are unable to see this problem not as a semetic problem, but as a human right.
I've seen a million videos on all sides about the Israel Palestinian conflict, but none of them do try to open the eyes of people and ask them to, please please look at this objectively and put yourselves aside, children are dying, and you cant expect peace if the answer is for a group of people to accept opression.
People need to wake the fuck up. Great video
Netanyahu being "a piece of hot garbage" is one thing. Netanyahu telling the people of Israel that Hitler only did the Holocaust because a Palestinian leader told him to, in a conversation there's no evidence of, is another thing entirely. I really didn't expect that.
Hey, thanks for that. I grew up in Palestine and I always told myself that there surely is a group of cool people who are critical of their government on the other side, just as I was with the behavior of people on my side, which I felt terrible about for most of my life and tried to remove my identity from it as much as possible. It's nice to see comments confirming that. It also gives me a weird sense of unity because of being able to communicate so easily on the internet, unlike back then.

Thank you Katie Holdin for being so generous with your story and for making Cody say weiner farts. You're my hero!
I've never been Jewish, never had the experience of anti-Semitism directed at me, but I do remember in the wake of 9/11 during the Bush era how common it was to characterize intellectually honest criticism of government policy as somehow being unpatriotic or disloyal. It was a terrible mischaracterization of a fundamental and vitally important part of our democracy, speaking freely, as something which was an attack on our democracy. It simultaneously served to a lot of self-censorship on the anti-war left (whatever happened to them?) and it served to soften and damage the definition and bite of the term disloyal.
I can only imagine how amplified that must be for members of such a historically and currently oppressed ethnoreligion. To criticize the state policy of Israel under the control of right-wing reactionaries and be met with accusations of anti-Semitism is the height of cruel dishonesty, but perhaps even worse it softens and damages the definition and bite of the label of anti-Semitism. We need ant-Semitism as a term with power and weight to fight back against real anti-Semitism and anti-Semites. The more the term is used as a cheap political dogwhistle and lie, the more it emboldens real anti-Semites.
Absolutely understand in regards to comparisons to 9/11 reactionaries. I was accused of being unpatriotic for being anti-war. Then I watched as the rest of the country started to come around over the course of a decade. Going into your analogy, I don't think it emboldened actual unpatriotic people. It did, however, allow for an unfettered series of actions by those with an agenda. "Whatever happened to them?" We're still here, but the self-censorship still gives many pause on speaking out. Mike Gravel is running for 2020 nomination though.
So nothing has changed Everything is worse actually
Nothing has changed in four years. Nothing will change. As long as a group of people believe they are superior because God whispers in their ears.
Wait, was that Fox News clip show Judge Janine interviewing a poorly disguised Judge Janine?

Oh thank god. . I thought I was the only one thinking that.
I always laugh when I hear someone say the Jews killed Jesus. Guess the Roman Empire must be the fictional part in a book full of imagination
If you speak of peace, justice and equality those with the power that imbalances and negates those things will kill you. The elites ordered it a few soldiers did the deed ("blood and gold" the old roman legion motto we spend our blood so they get more gold, seems its not only war that never changes). As long as there are humans this will always be the case. Those that order it didn't give a crap about anything other than keeping thier power to themselves even at the cost of their own people.
Nothing changes that is why its called a revolution, if your lot are at the top of the wheel out of the mud its only a matter of time before your lot at the bottom again.
@@julesmasseffectmusic You do realize this is the UA-cam xomment section right? You went like, 5 layers too deep in that one. A simple: 'we need to stop doing bad stuff' would have been enough ;)
Nevyn of OZ Unless l misunderstand what you have written, historians (Secular and Christian) agree that the events laid down regarding the Sanhedrin’s trial of Jesus likely did not happen (each member would have been in their home town to receive pilgrimages for the Passover holiday). Pontius Pilate was recalled to Rome for his cruelty (2,000 Jews were killed by crucifixion under his command). So, when you say, “Those that order it...even at the cost of their own people”, sounds to me like you are maintaining the trope that the Jews killed Jesus. At our Seder table, we don’t use the term Egyptian to perpetuate the story that the Egyptians enslaved the Jews, we say Mitzrayim (meaning narrow space) to speak about the many ways we continue to be enslaved - not just physically and psychologically, but through civil, moral, economic, environmental injustices.
