Great to see you in my neck of the woods, Lisa! Well, I don't live all that close but I can reach Audley in about 25 minutes. I was at Audley last Friday doing a trail hike to Winfried Falls, parked alongside the cafe you were at. :) Most of my time is spent with my children near Budeena in Maianbar. It has a very friendly and homely localised cafe, calm local vibes, beautiful and very welcoming. Wattamolla is not familiar to me as I used to hear about it being packed out at the weekends so I just stuck to what I know. It is very interesting to hear your perspective of how different the shire and the northern beaches. As you suggested, you wouldn't notice the difference much if you are not a long term Australian coastal resident but you certainly do if you live locally. I'm not that familiar with the northern beaches but I can say with some knowledge of the shire area that most people come from working class Sydney backgrounds, often descendant of parents who originally lived to the west and north of the shire and pushed down into the area as different areas such as Bankstown, Blacktown filled up with new migrants. I've always had the impression that the majority of people on the northern beaches have lived somewhere around there for several generations. Do you know anything about that? Hi Marta! Audley is so lovely. I've also been to Bundeena a few times, but not for a few years. I did the walk to Maianbar back then too and camped at Bonnie Vale. That's interesting about the background of people living in the Shire. I don't know too much about the background of the people up on the Northern Beaches. I've met a few people who grew up on the North Shore but also a lot of expats from the UK or South Africa. It's very popular up here with Brazilians too! I think I prefer it up here, but I thought there were some really nice restaurants etc in Cronulla. There seemed to be more going on at night, so I would have probably liked it in my twenties.
@@dreamingofdownunder That's great to hear. I rarely meet anyone who spends much time in the Bundeena, Maianbar area and I have done that walk so it's nice to know you have done it too! Thanks for letting me know your experience with locals up there. The demographic makes sense to me from my own experience of those groups. There's a lot of Brazilians, Colombians around Bondi, Randwick, Maroubra too now. Twenty years ago, I can't remember ever running into someone from that part of the world locally. I had a feeling you were going to say that you prefer it up there and I imagine I would to if not for my family, my home, my work etc being all in the south of Sydney. I'm glad you found such a lovely place to live and it seems to do wonders in being able to make you look 22 for 20 years, haha..
