While this may not be the very best vehicle out there, it's good for what it is designed to be. It's honest and doesn't promise anything it doesn't deliver (other than putting "SR" on a car that takes a Wednesday to get to 60). But at the end of the day, we actually need far more affordable cars that do all the basics and give those nice extras just like this. Nissan's commitment to small cars and to safety - Nissan Safety Shield 360 - as well as the small conveniences is wonderful and we really need more of it. To spend $19,820 and get smart key, rear parking sensors, auto braking front and rear, adaptive cruise, blind spot monitoring, auto climate, LED headlights, Android Auto/Carplay, digital display, comfortable AND heated seats, reasonably good looks, and a trunk that is the same as a Camry... that admirable. The Versa is well worth adding to your list if looking for a small sedan that can punch above it weight in space and amenities. Really great review. Nice to see you driving around here in Plymouth, thank you for the hard work!
I thanked to god that this car have accompanied me back on my paycheck-to-paycheck days. God bless Nissan for making affordable cars for those who needed!
I love this car. I bought it a month ago and for what I need it’s perfect. It’s stylish and well equipped especially for the price. It drive well for my commute get room in the trunk which I live cause I haul my cookie vending stuff.
Once i saw Forrest's rundown on this vehicle, I was hoping that you would upload a video about it and it looks like you read my mind! Thanks for always delivering quality content!
Thanks for reviewing an inexpensive economy car for a change! IMO, I’d probably get a Corolla over this, but if money is really tight, then this would be the car to get. If you want a good and inexpensive car that gets great fuel economy - without buying a hybrid - I think this should be the choice. As an older guy, econobox cars have come a long way. For example, a cheap car like this twenty or thirty years ago would have had 13-inch tires! I’d be curious to compare this to the Kicks, which I believe has the same powertrain. Not sure if the price bump would be worth the extra cargo room of the hatchback form factor and elevated seating position, but it’d be a close call. Pity they don’t offer that same engine with a turbo option.
I have both cars and if I'm being honest, it really depends on your needs. The Corolla is slightly bigger and I find the suspension is a bit softer than that on there versa. The versa however is a REALLY easy car to drive. It is by far the easiest car I have ever driven. A wide turning radius, ac that works very well, surprisingly a pretty good sound system. The only complaints I have from the Corolla is that the ac fails after a few years but everything is holing up incredibly well. When it comes to the versa, the dashboard is just plastic and after owing mine for 14 years, the plastics begin to rattle.
Manual shitboxes are always some of my favourite daily drivers. The lighter weight combined with the manual makes them more fun than they were ever intended to be. Plus they're cheap and usually have simple, reliable powertrains, so you don't feel bad beating the crap out of it.
As someone who bought a '22 Kia Rio, I regret not waiting another year as they added a lot of tech to the standard S package (it's rare to see any other trim in the US). I also have a huge appreciation for the CVT (named an IVT) as it knows when to just rev or to shift to break the monotony. Although, with the nimbleness and "just enough" steering feel when it realizes you're giving it the beans, it's fun to manually shift with the "SportMatic" as they call it. There's a charm to spiritedly driving a slower car as it's harder to actually get into trouble and it's sometimes nice hearing a little 4 banger scream. Surprisingly, I was able to keep up with friends during some touge runs because that's more about ability rather than pure speed.
Well-balanced review. I like that you put more focus on suspension and NVH than most. Most car reviewers only comment on the acceleration and transmission. When they SHOULD focus on: suspension, steering weight, steering ratio, road noise, wind noise, seating ergonomics.
Love this 2023 Versa SR. It is truly loaded in top SR trim and for the price I would think this would be extremely popular given the price of new cars today as you said is over double this top trim Versa SE. I mean you can get a new car loaded for under $22,000.00 after destination you can beat it and the best value in my opinion is the SR. If you are looking at the Versa SV definitely pay the extra $700.00 and move up to the Versa SR as you gain heated seats, remote start, led headlights, larger touch screen, adaptive cruise control, automatic climate control, led side mirror turn signals that are heated, rear spoiler, leather wrapped steering wheel and shifter, sportier interior bits, larger alloy wheels, Nissan Connect Telematics Services, and so on. All that extra stuff for $700.00 more to go from the the Versa SV to the Versa SR. Wow! Also if you look at the the base Versa S with CVT and the added package that is $1,190.00 which alot for sale online have it pushes it only like $400.00 away from the Versa SV but you loose so many features if you chose that. The only way the Base Versa is a good deal in my opinion is if you choose the Base Versa S with 5 speed. Other wise if you are choosing or needed and automatic go with the SR its by far the best deal for the money and loaded. You can check out Nissans website and build you own in different trims and see how if you are looking at an S trim with CVT and its optional $1,190.00 package or an SV trim you are far better off to go for the SR trim. The SR trim has an unbeatable value and in my option is the best value in the subcompact and compact car class. I would take a loaded 2023 Versa SR over like a Hyundai Elantra, Kia Forte, Toyota Corolla, VW Jetta, Honda Civic, or even Nissans own Sentra. You are going to get way more features in a Versa SR top trim then one of those Compact cars base lower trims for the same cost. Sure those other cars may be a tad bigger but if you move up the trims to get a comparable equipped model to the Versa SR and go with one of those Compact cars top trim versions you will easily pay $4,000.00 to $6,000.00 more ($26,000.00 to $28,000.00 for a loaded top trim Compact). I really hope the updated 2023 Versa SR helps Nissan boost sales and helps people needing a new car they can afford get in to one
I love Nissan! I have had all Nissan Sentra. I will be getting a brand new Nissan in about three weeks! I don’t care about 0 to 60 in 5 sec. I just want something reliabable to get me to appointments, shopping etc! I am retired now and I feel the Versa will be my next Nissan! My neighbor lady has had her Versa 6 years now (manual transmission) and it has not given her any problems. She keeps up with all matience etc!
I've had a 2017 Versa SV for a few years now and honestly I'm still in love; it's Much better then my last two cars lol. I was wondering about the latest model for a while now, thanks for making this video.
Sometimes I really do wish there was a bigger market for the subcompact and compact vehicles that Europe sees in the US. I’d love to see the VW Polo, or any of the wonderful hot hatches they see, like the Seat Cupra, or the Renault Clio. And even some wagons like the RS2 or RS4. Actually the S1 is definitely one I have my eye on. The A45S is an awesome hot hatch. Wish BM brought the 1 series back, was a great size for city life, and the hatch version was good for more storage. Mazda is definitely dominating the price segment with the 3. Though I do wish I could get the top engine in the 3 with the 6 spd, not exactly sure why they decided against that for the top trim when they have it for the standard sport trim.
I drove one of these for a while. Power on the low end is fine and smooth, but getting up to speeds around 50mph is painful. I wish this had more HP, even 10-15 more.
@@bowie2004 Just under 16K. Something that is a requirement to function in most of this country (the U.S.) shouldn't be so expensive. Also, I am aware that you can buy a used car, but my point still stands.

I still don’t think Nissan is making bad cars. They were for a bit and I hated my 06’ Altima but they’ve been getting better and I actually like their styling. It’s just the CVT’s and the drivers that are the issues
cvts are as big of an issue if you service them every 20k to 30k miles, crazy the amount of people i've talked to that didn't even know that was a thing

So here I am cross-shopping Acura TLX, Honda Pilot, GMC Sierra 1500, and...Nissan Versa. I think a lot to do with loving a car is feeling like you got your money's worth. I'll never forget my test-drive of the Corolla in 2016. I couldn't get the smile off my face. The car just felt like so much for the money. But I went with the Ford Fusion mainly because I thought it was the more grown-up option. That Fusion was dead at 140,000 miles. I'd still be driving that Corolla and loving it.
How big of an improvement is there between the power of the 23 Sentra and Versa, it’s not a massive jump and it’s a 2.0L I4 vs 1.6L I4, I mean for day to day use highway and city would you rather have the Versa or Sentra
Nice to see Nissan offer a budget vehicle for budget auto consumers and those old farts harping about CVT failure from Nissan, its old news wake up its 2023 not 2011 to 2018 when those CVT failure occurred........
I've been looking at these for awhile, and rented one. It's a GREAT 16-18k car. The best deal out there! Over 20k+...meh. I'm looking at the Sentra/Altima for that price.
@@ОлегСлугин-щ7з the proof is in the crash tests on UA-cam. The nhtsa redid alot of cars with a heavier device. And alot got lower scores, these sub compacts has less crumble zones.
Basic transportation at an affordable price that is easy to live with. Best for around town driving in traffic, as it is easy to maneuver in heavy traffic situations. Not so great for freeway driving at higher speeds or if you are in a hurry.
@@life_of_riley88 , yes I have, and I wholeheartedly agree that the ride is quite nice. However, here in Hawaii, people usually drive around 80mph on the freeway in a 55 mph zone, and I just don't feel safe in a light little vehicle at freeway speeds.
In my family we have this car, it's great with the fuel economy but the powertrain is not that good. Had the same comment you said. The rest of it is good, it gives you what you're looking for in an affordable car.
This is probably the most decent car that I can get at the moment. I need it by next month for college, and used cars with decent mileages from "dealerships" are almost the same price as an entry level Versa. Probably better to get a new car. Although it's still pricy, the cheapest one I can find in "Florida" is still $18,910 out the door. The only other brands I am willing to buy from are Toyota, Honda, Kia, Volkswagen, and maybe Hyundai. But for cars like the Civic and Corolla, they are more pricy than the Versa. And I went to Greenway Kia, and they were selling their lowest Rio for 24 and change. Any thoughts on what to do? Or how to find something better?
Any idea how do these newer Nissans and CVTs handle and compare to older models? We have a 2018 Sentra SV, which has slightly more power but barely (122hp and 125lb ft torque). Those numbers are plenty for me, but I'm wondering if, even though these Versas are slightly lower speced, that the newer CVTs, plus updated tuning and lower curb weight would make this feel the same as the older, slightly more powerful models, or maybe even more nimble cause of the lower weight. Thoughts?
Sound system is an unbranded Panasonic, I had a 21 and added an inline amp with pioneer speakers, and had to pull the radio out to add an inline harness. It says Matsushita electronics on the label which is Panasonic/Technics/National parent company.
Awesome review! Thanks for doing this I have been waiting for you to review this. I would love to see you review a 2023 Mitsubishi Mirage or Mirage G4 lol. Any chance you could or would review a 2023 Mitsubishi Mirage or Mirage G4? I have owned 3 Mirages now all purchased new, 2015 Mitsubishi Mirage ES CVT, 2017 Mitsubishi Mirage G4 SE CVT, 2021 Mitsubishi Mirage SE CVT (still own) and have a soft spot for small cars. I love the Mirages sooo much but when this updated 2023 Nissan Versa SR came out with the updates I am seriously considering one exactly like the one you review color and all. I love it and all the features. I chose my 2021 Mirage SE because I love small cars that have the option to be loaded out with features of larger cars. My top trim Mirage SE has features like apple car play, heated seats, push button start and keyless access, led head and tail lights, led drl’s, 15 inch 2 tone alloy wheels, sporty front-side-rear skirts, plaid cloth and leatherette seats that look upscale, large back up camera, automatic climate control, remote start, power windows, power locks, power mirrors, bluetooth, cruise, outside temperature display, 7 inch touch screen, upgraded multi color lit gauge cluster, cloth on front doors with cloth covered armrests, fold down driver seat armrest, carbon fiber and piano black interior trim, forward collision alert with pedestrian detection, auto high beams, lane departure warning, abs, traction control, and much more. Now this 2023 Nissan Versa has all the features my loaded Mirage has and even more! I love it and the styling and that Gray Sky Pearl Paint is gorgeous. Thanks for this video.
You know, I'm liking that interior: it looks nice and soft and the all-blackness doesn't bother me as much. It could be improved with beige or ivory but that's no longer offered almost anywhere. I like the visibility but yeah there appears to be better buys elsewhere. Has Nissan's newer CVT's proven themselves yet? We wait.
Sadly a lot of companies are discontinuing small cheap cars in USA. Toyota Yaris, Honda Fit are few examples of cars that got discontinued in past few years.
If I had to pick between the kia Rio, Mitsubishi Mirage or this. I think this would be more comfortable. Probably more reliable. All 3 can be had at or below 20k.
I would like to see a review like this about Chevy Trax 2024. I am interested in how fast the vehicle can run and the cabin noise, how good it is the isolation.
My friend recently bought a brand new Nissan versa (we’re both in college). It’s a really good car for a college student. He got his for a good deal. He says even though it’s a small basic car, it’s still an upgrade from his old 2008 Honda pilot (which broke down, the transmission went out completely and the car was totaled because of that)
I can't help but think of the fact that a Jetta Sport 8AT can be had for around $23,450 -- even less with the manual -- and can get from 0 to 60 in around 7 seconds.
The 2021 Nissan versa was my very first car and honestly, loved that little thing. Only thing I disliked was the paint/clear coat was pretty cheap. LOTS of rock chips.
LOL - the door shutting sounds WAY better than a $100k cybertruck. Crazy. I wouldn't mind a Versa with a manual for a cheap commuter vehicle while I pay to get daughters through college. In a world of $50,000 cars and $80,000 pickup trucks this makes sense. Not a CVT fan though.
Nice styling and color, nice interior as well. Would be a good commuter without going hybrid. 122hp is a bit dismal though, would have been nice to have 150hp like the VW Jetta. Funny thing though, I like the Kicks and it’s the same driveline. Waiting for the reviews on the new Tacoma. Great review as always T 👍
Id like to see one if these in manual lowered with bigger roll bars and wider wheels on a track. Then someone add up costs and see if fun factor is worth it
Ohhh that highway accelaration was a down for me, this Nissan should be more quick getting out and in of any situation. Between this car/Forte/Elantra or corolla ...
i respect this for now being one of the absolute cheapest new cars, but i can't imagine buying this when you can get that jetta sport from a few videos ago for like $2k more.
If that's what this car speeds up to when going on the highway, then my Hyundai Venue probably accelerates like that too :D I mean you can't expect a lot for a 122 HP engine, but adequate enough for most people. You can't expect much for a sub-compact car, but I think this Versa is a much improved one compared to the previous ones before it.
I really like your review, but to be honest the car would be more than fine in europe. On US-highways it may struggle a bit, but here in europe a lot of cars barely have 100hp. Of corse more power is nice, but I think it's more than enough.
As a college student who is about to take the driving test and soon after looking for a first car, would this car be a safer and affordable option for a budget newbie driver?
Yes. We just bought a Versa S with the CVT this past Saturday. If you haggle hard, like we did, you can get one for $19700 out-of-the-door (take home price). Good luck!
I think would be a perfectly acceptable car. Maybe not as fun to drive as my Fiesta. But I don't see why they upgrade the SR to 17" tires. The cost driven folks who are going to by this would be happy to have the the cheaper 16" tires.
Compare to its competitor the Mitsubishi Mirage G4 3-cyl 1.2 engine, this car has plenty of power for its category. Too bad they don't sell the Honda City in North America.
You call the car slow ,but how fast are you actually going? 60 to 70 mph? A lot of people out there are going way over the speed limit to start.i have owned a versa for the past 6 years, and I really enjoy that little car. It's a great car, easy to get along with. Just don't buy a beer and try to act like you're drinking champagne!
They need to put the new 3 cyl 1.5 turbo that’s in the rogues now, and move it down the line to the Altima, Sentra and versa. They need to get rid of the 2.5 4 cyl.
I’ve seen photos where the car looks like this and others where the grill looks completely different but they say the same model. Is this like an upgraded package version of the SR?

So here I am cross-shopping Acura TLX, Honda Pilot, GMC Sierra 1500, and...Nissan Versa. I think a lot to do with loving a car is feeling like you got your money's worth. I'll never forget my test-drive of the Corolla in 2016. I couldn't get the smile off my face. The car just felt like so much for the money. But I went with the Ford Fusion mainly because I thought it was the more grown-up option. That Fusion was dead at 140,000 miles. I'd still be driving that Corolla and loving it.
I wish they would sell the SR trim with a manual. Sadly only the base trim gets the manual.
I love when you review cheaper cars!
How big of an improvement is there between the power of the 23 Sentra and Versa, it’s not a massive jump and it’s a 2.0L I4 vs 1.6L I4, I mean for day to day use highway and city would you rather have the Versa or Sentra
I wish Honda still made a car like this. Would've loved to see the Honda city in North America
Thanks, I always enjoy your reviews.
Amazing video just what I was looking for, thank you!
Nice to see Nissan offer a budget vehicle for budget auto consumers and those old farts harping about CVT failure from Nissan, its old news wake up its 2023 not 2011 to 2018 when those CVT failure occurred........
The anemic engine and CVT are deal-breakers, but it still looks like a lot of car for the money.

On the topic of cheap cars, you should try to get your hands on one of the new mirages.
Aren't they discontinued?
@@Sklounst_Actual Nope. There are 2023 Mirages.
@@braetonwilson4296 huh, you're right. It was discontinued in Japan but I guess that was only a rumor for the US

I've been looking at these for awhile, and rented one. It's a GREAT 16-18k car. The best deal out there! Over 20k+...meh. I'm looking at the Sentra/Altima for that price.

Basic transportation at an affordable price that is easy to live with.
Best for around town driving in traffic, as it is easy to maneuver in heavy traffic situations.
Not so great for freeway driving at higher speeds or if you are in a hurry.
Have you been in one? They feel really nice on the freeway, very quiet too.
@@life_of_riley88 , yes I have, and I wholeheartedly agree that the ride is quite nice.
However, here in Hawaii, people usually drive around 80mph on the freeway in a 55 mph zone, and I just don't feel safe in a light little vehicle at freeway speeds.
i love his playlist wish he would share it
In my family we have this car, it's great with the fuel economy but the powertrain is not that good. Had the same comment you said. The rest of it is good, it gives you what you're looking for in an affordable car.
Wow, meep, meep car…. That first pull on the highway was painful.. i guess just putting around town it would be alright. Fun video.
Very cool! Nice and reasonable car!
We wait.
Nissan's CVTs aren't that bad tbh. You just need to regularly change the CVT fluid, and itll be reliable.
Idk about more reliable, the mirage is top of the pile in reliability, but it's probably very good.
I would like to see a review like this about Chevy Trax 2024. I am interested in how fast the vehicle can run and the cabin noise, how good it is the isolation.
Save for the flat bottom, I really like that steering wheel
Where's the CD player?
My friend recently bought a brand new Nissan versa (we’re both in college). It’s a really good car for a college student. He got his for a good deal. He says even though it’s a small basic car, it’s still an upgrade from his old 2008 Honda pilot (which broke down, the transmission went out completely and the car was totaled because of that)
I'm sure normal people close their trunk by touching the outside
I rented one for a week it was good on fuel and real easy to drive much lighter steering than my Tacoma
this car is still faster than mine 💀💀
Edit: Not anymore :)

I can't help but think of the fact that a Jetta Sport 8AT can be had for around $23,450 -- even less with the manual -- and can get from 0 to 60 in around 7 seconds.
facts. low key the best sub 25k car on the market methinks
Base model though?
The 2021 Nissan versa was my very first car and honestly, loved that little thing. Only thing I disliked was the paint/clear coat was pretty cheap. LOTS of rock chips.
Sounds luxurious when compared to a Mitsubishi Mirage, which can cost $20K plus fully loaded.
First!
Honestly tho the versa is a pretty good car considering how much stuff it gives you for the price
Great review as always T
👍
Its a subcompact you cant compare it to the jetta which is a compact. 122 hp is alright for what it is
If you can, i would like you test driving the new mitsubishi mirage. Wanna hear your thoughts about it.
I always just say when getting up to highway speed in my versa …. You can do it you can do it! Hahah
Id like to see one if these in manual lowered with bigger roll bars and wider wheels on a track. Then someone add up costs and see if fun factor is worth it
Drop the 1.5 3 cylinder Turbo on the SR trim. That would be real interesting to drive.
Ohhh that highway accelaration was a down for me, this Nissan should be more quick getting out and in of any situation.
Between this car/Forte/Elantra or corolla ...
now we need an EV with 200+ miles of range at this price
I wanna see it driven on sports mode please !!!
i respect this for now being one of the absolute cheapest new cars, but i can't imagine buying this when you can get that jetta sport from a few videos ago for like $2k more.
I want one of these so badly because it's the most affordable- and I STILL cannot afford it.
The engine note is not all too objectionable either. Wonder if there is lounder exhanust available
Eu gostei desse versa sr
Dsg transmission is another level
good first car?
If that's what this car speeds up to when going on the highway, then my Hyundai Venue probably accelerates like that too :D I mean you can't expect a lot for a 122 HP engine, but adequate enough for most people. You can't expect much for a sub-compact car, but I think this Versa is a much improved one compared to the previous ones before it.
Its pretty slow, but it's affordable and super efficient, 40MPG on the highway, it's a subcompact econobox, it sacrifices power for efficiency.
@@ZoomZoom356 yeah and I don’t necessarily think that’s a bad thing. It’s plenty of power for city driving. Same thing with my Venue.
I had the 2015 one they pretty decent for a small size
this is pretty nice for about 20k
At least the spark plugs look easy to replace not like the 2010 versa my wife had 1.30 hour to replace them
I really like your review, but to be honest the car would be more than fine in europe. On US-highways it may struggle a bit, but here in europe a lot of cars barely have 100hp. Of corse more power is nice, but I think it's more than enough.
Thinking about getting this car
Mini Big Altima Energy
Smalltima
Thinking about getting one I know the transmission are
Known to not be good but I’ll just get a warranty
the best in that segment, due to honda not offering the fit in the US
Great looking interior for the price/class
As a college student who is about to take the driving test and soon after looking for a first car, would this car be a safer and affordable option for a budget newbie driver?
Yes. We just bought a Versa S with the CVT this past Saturday. If you haggle hard, like we did, you can get one for $19700 out-of-the-door (take home price). Good luck!
@@benjamindwong1 Just got my license so I will keep this in mind. Thanks!
Doesn't seem bad and actually looks pretty good, but I think I'd still rather choose the Jetta you reviewed a while back.
interesting how on startup the needle only sweeps to 110
The last gen versa that i got as a rental car once was probably the worst car i've ever driven.
So it has no power when you really wanna hit that gas pedal right??
You call the car slow ,but how fast are you actually going? 60 to 70 mph? A lot of people out there are going way over the speed limit to start.i have owned a versa for the past 6 years, and I really enjoy that little car. It's a great car, easy to get along with. Just don't buy a beer and try to act like you're drinking champagne!
Considering this car as a daily. Can anyone confirm reliability on the versa?
They need to put the new 3 cyl 1.5 turbo that’s in the rogues now, and move it down the line to the Altima, Sentra and versa. They need to get rid of the 2.5 4 cyl.
I’ve seen photos where the car looks like this and others where the grill looks completely different but they say the same model. Is this like an upgraded package version of the SR?
Maybe it was the SV or last year's which wasn't refreshed yet
Is made in my beautiful country! Mexico! Yeah!
3:50 what is that clicking from the engine?
It's the high pressure fuel injectors/pump. They make a racket! Some of the loudest I've heard is on Hondas earth dreams engines.
crazy that this car has a better backseat than the Civic Si lmfao
