Just bought a Nissan Versa, manual. Had to give up a couple of creature comforts that I wanted, but I don't have to worry about a CVT. The engine is a tried and fairly true design, from what I understand. Under $20,000 out the door for a brand new car. The dealership includes (in writing) a lifetime power train warranty. Engine, transmission, drive axle - $100 deductible for as long as I own the Versa - no mileage limit. I did have to search for two months to find a Manual transmission in stock. Nissan and their dealers are doing themselves a disservice by limiting the manual transmission vehicle so severely - both in the numbers produced/stocked, and in the limits to what everyday options that are offered with the manual transmission. I don't understand that, other than that they are trying to eliminate manual transmissions.
I love these affordable, basic vehicles. I drove my 2000 Mazda Protege for 17 years (until it was T-boned and totalled). It had 1.8L engine, 122 hp and around the same torque. I never felt like it lacked power since I mostly drove it in the city. On the highway, it had no problem getting up to speed or staying with the traffic. I loved the comfort of the interior, the seats were comfy. It looked absolutely lux compared to a lot of cars now (new cars have way more plastic all over inside). Gas mileage wasn't great compared to vehicles from today. Miss that car.
With all the very expensive cars you review,...I'm glad to see you also do these very inexpensive cars for those who can't afford much. As _for_ this car,...it would be a "no" for me, but [again] for those who can't afford much, this car is definitely worth considering.
@@venictos Oh......MOST definitely. A lightly used car would be my choice as well. My current car is a Certified Used Honda. Having said that, as of right now, I wouldn't be getting a Certified Used Honda because my local store has prices of used Honda that are higher than when they were new. Used car market is outrageous at the moment.
Lightly used cars cost more than new cars right now. So I would rather buy a brand new car. Plus buying an used car is risky because you don't know how the previous owners drove it.
One of my first cars back in the '60's was a Mercury Comet (the Mercury version of the Ford Falcon) with an 85 HP 6 cylinder engine that required a whoppin' 20 seconds to reach 60. The 2-speed automatic contributed to the car's sloth. We've come a long way when today's slowest cars take half the time to reach 60. I also had a 64 Malibu SS 283 V8, also with a crappy 2-speed automatic. It was blazingly fast compared with the Comet but 3 seconds slower than the Versa in this review.
The only new car I ever bought was a 1994 Ford Aspire, I think it was made by Kia? It was an adorable little Jellybean in Teal. Very 90's. Nice to see small easy drive and buy cars still out there.
I enjoy your tutorial of the economy family segment. You give the small little compact car a chance. My daughter has one & cried it had no power. I said it's not made for speed, it's made for good mpg's
This vehicle is extremely popular in Dubai, UAE. The majority of people own either a Toyota Yaris or a Sunny (VERSA), particularly those who primarily use cars for city purposes. And honestly, it is a good vehicle considering its price point. You get Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, air conditioning, two charging ports, and good mileage, even if it's not a hybrid. Most buyers of this car are individuals who use it solely for commuting to work, and it fulfills this purpose well, especially considering its compatibility with cheap fuel.
thundergato, I agree, i'm so jealous of Dubai folks! Here in the US we have plenty of expensive cars on sale but very very few affordable cars. That's why many Americans take 7 year car loans to pay off their cars.
@@braetonwilson4296 Most of the people who buy a car also usually get a loan and the standard here is 5 years. I would be really happy if Hilux was offered in the US as it was the original Toyota which earned the name “Indestructible”, but Toyota only likes to sell expensive vehicles in US and Europe another example is the new iconic Toyota Land Cruiser 300 series and the list goes on.
not bad , honestly this is all people want and need . regular car, AC, apple car play , good on gas . Im a toyota type of person but if i was tight on cash or didn't care about cars i would get this
The 2023 Nissan Vera SR is a nice smooth drive. Feels good driving, easy steering. Gas mileage is great! You don't have to put all your money in the tank. Take off is okay, not great but it will work it's way up decently. You have pretty good speed after the first take off. If you need a car to get you here and there with great gas mileage and comfortable enough, this is it. Looks are very nice. One flaw with Nissans, after ten years their transmissions give out. They are known for that. A car salesman will strive to get you to buy a new car, somewhat sneakily. Watch for that and how you finance it. The salesman will do it for his gain but not for your good intrest. Price isn't all that cheap. The cars are over twenty two thousand. Your lucky to get them down to eighteen and a half thousand. To me that's not cheap but more affordable then most cars. That's the right way to say that. Not cheap but more affordable in these days and times. Nothing cheap in price!
Not the car I want, but it is nice for you to review vehicles that only some can afford. Always appreciate your honesty! One more thing and I wished Nissan would listen, leave the CVT to the Versa, Sentra and Rogue. The CVT does not belong in anything else they build or at least make an automatic an option.
My first car was a Nissan Versa and I work my way up from there. I always have a soft spot for this car and I am thankful that they still make one today being that everyone is stopping making affordable car and move into more expensive cars now. Im glad theyre still giving someone else the same chance that I have when I was down on my knee.
I have owned many cars and have never felt the need to tap one the dashboard for a sense of quality. How many times do you need to mention the cars "cheapness?"
My grandpa has a 20 SV and it’s not a bad (sub)compact car. Gas is comparable to my 18 Altima and it’s comfortable. I’m over 6’ and 300 pounds and have plenty of room.
My husband and I rented a hatchback Versa back when they first came out when we went to Vegas and boy, was that a fun car to drive! It was a beautiful blue. We took it out in the desert on our way from the airport and it flew! Nice little car.
Absolutely understand people out there need affordable cars. Models like this are ubiquitous for a reason- they serve an important purpose. My problem with this car, and cars like it, is they don't last. I give this a year and it's creaking and squeaking and rattling inside. I know car reviewers can't attest to that since they only get these testers for a short time but we all know how it goes with cheap cars like this.
True. If Toyota brought back the Yaris, I would choose that over the Versa hands down. I want a small affordable car thats built to last, not a cheap throw-away car that will have issues 3 years down the road
One of my fav channels. I went to dealer to get one they sold them all. They said to get one buy it for 4th July sale. Ended up getting Sentra SV for 1500 more. Overall happy but limited selection during Labor Day sale.
I am a "car guy"; an 80s kid who drooled over the AMG Hammer, 911 Whale Tail, M3 Lightweight, etc. I've owned '91 NSX, C7, Jag XKR and XJ Supercharged. I bought this for my 17 year old daughter, because for the price there is no other vehicle available with its mix of desirable features. 'Nuff said.
I dunno why people care about the 0-60. Every time I’m waiting at the light and as soon as it changes green no one in nicer cars accelerates. They go slow as balls for the longest time before even speeding.
I had a 2011 Versa hatchback and really liked it, although my base model didn't have the CVT so the MPGs were surprisingly bad for a subcompact, something like 30 mpg combined. It had a nice ride and wasn't too loud on the road. I needed inexpensive, had just gotten my MA in Spain, I wanted an inexpensive European-looking car. I paid around $16k for it brand new.
"You have to reduce your expectations?" What kind of cars do you people drive? I went from a 2010 Honda Civic EX to a Nissan Kicks SV. Even the SV was loaded with features and screens my Honda did not have. I'm still learning some of them. I love the blind spot monitoring. I love the digital speedometer. I love that I can check the tire pressure while inside the car. I love that after every drive it gives me my MPG and asks me to update if I beat my previous high. I enjoy the zero gravity seats. (Honda Civic seats were very uncomfortable.) I enjoy the Sirius radio. The cargo space is phenomenal. As I said in another post, I'd have looked at the loaded SR Versa had one been around when I needed a car. That has more features than my SV Kicks.
Exactly my thought. If I were in a tight budget situation I would not hesitate to buy the cheapest new Versa in manual. $17k + tax fee and it will get me from point a to point b in a relatively safe and comfort manner. Sure it does not have the creature comfort but beats buying a $40k car with $1k payment per month.
Top Speed: Probably….hahaha good one Sofyan👌 you’re almost to 1 million congratulations. I would love to see Alex on autos get some more subscribers, you guys are both amazing.
Everyone is spoiled today. Back in the 90’s when I needed the cheapest new car my poor ass could afford to replace my old deathtrap, cheap was no power steering, vinyl seats, wind up windows and manual locks, one outside mirror, sealed beam halogen headlights, no ac or radio, and 13” steelies. Oh and the airbag was only available on higher trims…
You're forgetting that your car from the nineties was much much cheaper than today's cars. Sell a new bare bones car today with wind up windows, manual locks, small wheels etc. for 15k and it will be sold out. Problem is, greedy carmakers refuse to make bare bones cars, they'd rather add all these features and charge you an arm and leg for it.
If you like small, reliable, easy to repair cars with manual transmissions, the versa is probably your last chance to buy a car like that new. I've been hearing that because of new US government regulations the subcompact class is pretty much going to go away because the cost to make these cars compliant will make them as expensive as their compact siblings, so why continue to offer them is the logic automakers are going with.
Exactly. The EPA is a giant scam, how can they claim to care about the environment when they make regulations which punishes small economy cars and push everyone into big polluting SUVs.
I think the top speed is 115 mph. It probably takes a long time to get up to that speed and no one is going to drive it anywhere near top speed, but it has enough power to cruise at highway speeds. I suspect the tunnel on the floor serves two purposes. First, it probably helps add a little to structural rigidity. Second, the car needs a tunnel to run the exhaust. It's a small car and pretty low to the ground, so they need somewhere to tuck some piping. It looks like a good bargain. It's pretty similar in size to my 2005 Corolla, which has been big enough for everything I've needed. I think the 0-60 time is also pretty close to my Corolla, which is a bit slow and somewhat noisy when accelerating hard, but quiets down and cruises nicely at legal highway speeds.
I have been looking for a good used car for my son’s first car. Prices are coming down slowly, but it still seems hard to find a rust-free car with less than 120k miles for under $10k. A $16,000 base Versa frankly sounds like a good alternative, though they are probably unicorns in the real world. Working A/C, power windows and locks, Bluetooth, a decent stereo, and a warranty. A manual transmission would also make this model a bit more engaging and likely last longer than the CVT as well.
I hope Nissan doesn't stop making the Versa. It offers a lot for the money 😢. Those turbo engines will probably not last long though. I hate anything turbo myself since I keep my cars 260k plus miles
Not bad for the price. This probably a car that local shop could fix without going to a dealer so your price plus maintenance cost could be cheaper than a 30k car.
Funny my first car I bought when I was young was a huge Camry, and it has the same HP as this little car and weights more, and I thought that was plenty of HP to go around.
Im not sure this is the least expensive car available now in the US but it might be. The car looks pretty sharp for its price. We definitely need more vehicles in this affordable range. I rented one a couple years ago and it was compatable to a Hyundai Accent,
You say it's a 17,000$ car but I would have liked that you mention the price of the version you show on camera which is several thousand dollars more. Edit: Ok so the price is mentioned at the very end. 5,000$ is a lot of extra money for the highest trim, not really worth it.
Nice color, i love mine! Black SR.. lucked out and grabbed first one to drop in N Texas last New Yrs weekend 🙂 BTW, As far as Fog Lights, ya sucks they killed them off in the US for 2023, but Canada and Mexico DO get Fog Lights. why that is i have no idea. even some of their SV and S models have them! wtf 😏 other than that have no issues with the car. also i believe the SR has a Bose system (sounds too good, and lot of bass) just doesn't have the little Bose badges on the speakers. same in my daughter's Rogue. i guess Nissan just does that with certain top trim models. ☮

I also had a 64 Malibu SS 283 V8, also with a crappy 2-speed automatic. It was blazingly fast compared with the Comet but 3 seconds slower than the Versa in this review.
0-60 in versa? Are you serious? Versa buyers do not care ab 0-60, they are buying versa to go from point A to point B
That's a blessing in disguise, no erratic driving but do teach her how to merge properly.
I wish the Toyota Yaris was still offered in the US.
thundergato, I agree, i'm so jealous of Dubai folks!
It's got all the necessities to do its job at an very affordable price, no complains!!!!!
not bad , honestly this is all people want and need . regular car, AC, apple car play , good on gas .
I just got my new nissan versa sr 4/3/2024. I love it. ❤️
This car is not a sports car,it's the perfect car to take you from point A to Point B with no issue and perfect to drive around the city
Nissan and good CVTs should never be in the same sentence
My first car was a Nissan Versa and I work my way up from there. I always have a soft spot for this car and I am thankful that they still make one today being that everyone is stopping making affordable car and move into more expensive cars now. Im glad theyre still giving someone else the same chance that I have when I was down on my knee.
Good to see a review of affordable car. Everyone can't afford a $50k new car whether financed or leased.
I have owned many cars and have never felt the need to tap one the dashboard for a sense of quality. How many times do you need to mention the cars "cheapness?"
The 0-60 is a YES🤣🤣 I do believe it owning a 2016 Nissan Sentra SR with the CVT, but ngl it’s been very reliable.
Wow it's as long as an 8th Gen Civic! Economy cars have grown
My grandpa has a 20 SV and it’s not a bad (sub)compact car. Gas is comparable to my 18 Altima and it’s comfortable. I’m over 6’ and 300 pounds and have plenty of room.
0-60 does not matter to these kind of cars because they are low powered but have very good range.
I'd like to see your review of the Versa S with the 5 speed manual. It's great they're still making affordable cars.
Hahaha 16k car has the range of a 40k+ EV , this is actually ICE showing why it's still ahead of EV
We need more cheap cars like this from other car companies
The older versa imo is more adorable and it has a lot more space
It’s also a death trap, it’s known to be one of the deadliest cars you can buy this one is significantly safer…
“0-60 is probably just a yes” 😂
I said that already
Redline Reviews make the best videos ever :)
sadly my mom is someone who could just afford this. so i get its purpose. I hope it stays around with that price.
Imagine complaining about materials in an economy car.
"Nissan does CVT's well"??? Nissan is the one car manufacturer that has had large numbers of failures with their Jatco brand of CVT's that they use!
And it not going away. Not the company fault if folks are non-car people
“Doesn’t feel cheap” but all here is “cheap, cheap, cheap”. It’s a Nissan and not Benz. We get it.
The SR trim adds lots of features and better seating materials. The base model is VERY stark.....😮 I'd step up to a Kia Soul S or a Chevy Trax
It may not be a BMW M340i, but it beats catching the city bus!😂
I have been looking for a good used car for my son’s first car. Prices are coming down slowly, but it still seems hard to find a rust-free car with less than 120k miles for under $10k. A $16,000 base Versa frankly sounds like a good alternative, though they are probably unicorns in the real world. Working A/C, power windows and locks, Bluetooth, a decent stereo, and a warranty. A manual transmission would also make this model a bit more engaging and likely last longer than the CVT as well.
Bring the subcompact segment back
Coming to a rental fleet near you 😂.
“your Uber has arrived”
@@tinhinnh Valid and so true!
I hope Nissan doesn't stop making the Versa. It offers a lot for the money 😢. Those turbo engines will probably not last long though. I hate anything turbo myself since I keep my cars 260k plus miles
I love how he throws shade throughout the vid 😂😂😂
More like this please.
Top speed: Probably 😂😂 Sofyan you are hilarious. Should've added "0-60: Eventually" too 💚💚💚
Not bad for the price. This probably a car that local shop could fix without going to a dealer so your price plus maintenance cost could be cheaper than a 30k car.
Nissan used to offer a turbo 1.6, this car could use the extra horsepower and torque....
The engine screaming for the godsss🤣
Honesty if price is the concern i would take the 2024 chevy trax LS for 22k. It looks nicer and has a conventional transmission instead of a cvt
always have loved the Versa
this tech included in this car would have been luxury stuff 10 years ago…
Beautiful ride. 16K is a deal 👍
Funny my first car I bought when I was young was a huge Camry, and it has the same HP as this little car and weights more, and I thought that was plenty of HP to go around.
frankly id rather get a used corolla or civic before i buy a new versa
Imagine trying to pass cars going up a mountain forget about it 😅
Actually, it’s not all that bad. I had a 1981 Mazda RX seven with 100 hp 0 to 60 back then in nine seconds was fast lol
@@jamesbarbato2192 we have short passing lanes where I live and sometimes you need torque and hp to muscle through
After paying off my Nissan Xterra Pro4 X 2015, Infiniti XQ80. I'm going to get one of these. I'd Love an AWD version though.
Love the graph: Top speed, "probably' !
Sofyan we all saw the 25 mph sign 😂😂 15:01
YOU SHOULD DO THE BASE TRIM!! I don't believe it even comes with a key fob.
"Top speed: Probably" 😂😂😂
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 122 HP, so you can’t expect anything ~~ my Venue has the same power as this car but it’s actually quite adequate for me
My '15 5 speed I've had over 120. It's not as slow as most people think.
Im not sure this is the least expensive car available now in the US but it might be. The car looks pretty sharp for its price. We definitely need more vehicles in this affordable range. I rented one a couple years ago and it was compatable to a Hyundai Accent,
Thank-you Nissan for keeping the Versa on the market.
You say it's a 17,000$ car but I would have liked that you mention the price of the version you show on camera which is several thousand dollars more.
Edit: Ok so the price is mentioned at the very end. 5,000$ is a lot of extra money for the highest trim, not really worth it.
This seems like a very decent car for the price
don't those lunches destroy cvts? Also my car is a sentra b16 15 years old, cvt stil original and working
I love how simple the Nissan Versa is. Unfortunately, I love sunroofs. Give me a sunroof and I'm in. Nissan? Are you listening?
Definitely don't get the cvt trans unless your leasing it lol
Yep it’s trash and last about 6 years
@@90MVtvthese new ones are totally different from those old ones....you don't know what you're talking about
My 5sp tops out at 175Kph or 108mph, the Versas are very popular in Mexico and use for taxi service. I wouldn't touch the CVT though.
It's a shame that the higher models doesn't have a 5-speed, but other than that np!
That car looks like the same size as my 2004 Nissan Sentra.
Maybe Nissan should release a smaller vehicle that will go under the Versa in the line up.
Forget about it. Carmakers only want to big expensive SUVs and trucks because those have the fattest profit margins. No one wants to make small cars.
Nice color, i love mine! Black SR.. lucked out and grabbed first one to drop in N Texas last New Yrs weekend 🙂
BTW, As far as Fog Lights, ya sucks they killed them off in the US for 2023, but Canada and Mexico DO get Fog Lights. why that is i have no idea. even some of their SV and S models have them! wtf 😏 other than that have no issues with the car. also i believe the SR has a Bose system (sounds too good, and lot of bass) just doesn't have the little Bose badges on the speakers. same in my daughter's Rogue. i guess Nissan just does that with certain top trim models. ☮
I'm in N. Texas too. Would love to check out your Versa SR if it's ok with you.
@@braetonwilson4296 i'm way up in OK, drove down to TX cus they're only ones who had one at the time. Nissan had posted on their website all last year the 23 Versa was supposed to be out Fall 2022, but never happened for some reason. they just started trickling out first of this year, so when i saw this SR in N Texas, drove down and grabbed it. anyway, just keep tabs on your local dealers, eventually they'll get one ☮
That explains it. Smart of you to go out of state to buy one. Will do friend!
Question: If you were to purchase a new '24 sedan today which would you go for: the Versa SR or the Chevrolet Malibu top of the line? Please share your enlightened verdict. Thanks! 🙏♐
There's a higher supply of the Malibu and you can score a bigger discount on the Malibu. Chevy dealers will take 3-4k off a Malibu's price but you'll be lucky to get $500 off a Versa's price. So I would choose the discounted Malibu
so i actually just bought this car after i bought my 2023 ford bronco wildtrak 2 door because i realize after buying the bronco it was a nice fun car but the gas mileage is pitiful but its fun and the versa is cheap and reliable so yea
I think all companies that don’t make cars under $20k should spend millions on public transportation infrastructure in car dependent areas
I support that! Great idea!
Communist much ??
@@408SPLKINGS that’s not how communism works. They fund the roads and used their power to make our cities car dependent, it’s only fair they either give us some means to survive or fuck off
Top speed is 115 mph. This is a great car for the money.
Glad to see an manual exist still. SAVE THE MANUALS. Still would take this vs electric. Rather have something proven.
This car (and nissan kicks) are nissans only cars I would get with the CVT.
@@Brian_Eugene_Lee according to my experience, modern CVT transmissions are not that bad, yet older CVT at any non Nissan cars are also not that good. Just take the 5 speed manual and we are good to go
@@Brian_Eugene_Lee no problem, just feel free to block me as long as I'm telling fact. Here in Indonesia, Honda did the same blunder as Nissan to introduce CVT too early. Look at how the Mobilio was and is still a flop so that Honda has been forced to change the branding only because Honda's bad early CVT.
