    Wow, great set-up. You have the same work flow I have except I would adjust the grinder before filling it while it is running. I also use a dosing cup and distributer but it doesn't look like you need them. I was wondering if you were timing your shot using the scale? Very manual set-up which works very well.

      Thanks for watching! Since this video, I have added a distributor. I got the pretty common cheapie one on Amazon that seems to work pretty well. I'm typically only using that, no tamp, nowadays. The scale is only weight, no time. Once I've dialed in I generally only monitor extraction via volume and not time. If something looks drastically off in either direction, or it's been a while since I've gotten new beans, I'll recheck with time as needed to adjust. Cheers!

    Hey, great video
    Besides playing with your temp, have you made any other adjustments to your PID setting or to your machine in general? I’ve had the Pro 500 for a few months now and can’t get the crema. Most times it just comes out like very strong coffee and not espresso, not sure what I’m missing :-/

    • @TuoInside
      @TuoInside  2 роки тому +7

      Thanks for watching! I have not adjusted anything else on the machine, aside from experimenting with the PID. The other internal adjustment is the OPV valve which reads 10 bars on the gauge. In theory, losing 1 bar to the grouphead gets you to 9 on your coffee. Getting a nice extraction and crema takes a lot of variables lining up properly. Mainly, fresh coffee being brewed at 9 bars of pressure that follows some sort of a baseline recipe. A good starting point would be 1:2 ratio of ground coffee in to espresso out in about 25-30 seconds. This can be achieved by adjusting your grind to hit this mark accordingly. Then, you can further fine tune to your taste or bean as needed from here. Also, your coffee should be fresh off roast within a few weeks or so. Local roasters or specialty roasters online are your best bet, not standard grocery store stuff. Are you able to follow this guideline of recipe so far? What sort of grinder and beans are you using?

  • @matt02468

    Just got same machine and have a eureka mignon specialita grinder. Are you using stock profitec double shot basket? What is your coffee dose in grams? Looks like 8 seconds to first drip and you are finishing up in 24 seconds. How many grams of liquid espresso are you extracting? I am trying to dial in my own machine. Thanks.

    • @TuoInside
      @TuoInside  3 роки тому +2

      Awesome, congrats on your new setup! This is stock profitec double basket and spouted handle. I usually stay pretty close to basic 18g in 36g out. It's a good 1:2 ratio to start with and then you can adjust from there if interested. I'm not super picky because most of my shots swim in glorious frothy milk.
      Specialita is nice. I would first dial in via single dosing at a dose you're comfortable with to find your grind setting. Once that's locked in, then play with the timed dose output as needed.

    • @matt02468
      @matt02468 3 роки тому +1

      @@TuoInside I have 9s grind time and am seeing 18g on a scale consistently but am getting a more accurate scale with .1 g accuracy today. Thanks to Amazon. I think I have the dosing pretty spot on but wonder if I need to play with grind size more. At 24s ballpark with 1:2 ratio that sounds about right. I am also using a new to me coffee so not sure exactly what it should be like other than tasting some horrible shots when I first dialed grind size in and knew things were off. It’s easier than I thought though.

    • @TuoInside
      @TuoInside  3 роки тому +1

      @@matt02468 Sounds awesome... I sort of wish I had gone for the Specialita with the digitally timed dosing. It seems like it works pretty well! You're right, it's not that bad once you get the hang of it. Once you find the general grind range for your basket and grinder, you should only need to shift in either direction a bit depending on the bean you're using.

    • @matt02468
      @matt02468 3 роки тому

      @@TuoInside Grinder is breaking in and I am at 8s for a 18g dose. I switched from bagged commercial coffee to a medium roast blend at a local cafe that they get weekly. took me 3 baskets to dial in. i used to have a breville for two years so i actually find the time based grinding easy compared to ambiguous dials on my last combination machine. getting 60ml in ~26s and figured around 1:2.5 brew ratio is about right since I saw them pull two 1.5oz shot glasses from a triple basket in the store when I asked to try it before taking it home. crema is amazing... now only if I could figure out how to get the milk steaming down. i get pretty close sometimes but i always seem to have a blob of cappuccino foam in the pitcher that sits on top from over injecting / not rolling the milk enough and cannot get the art thing down yet. how long did it take you to pour latte art like that? amazing work, really enjoy seeing you make this look effortless!

    • @TuoInside
      @TuoInside  11 місяців тому +1

      Hello, yes you can do both at the same time. It's a heat exchange machine so one boiler powers both extraction and steam. The way it is setup will allow you to do both at the same time. However, the steaming does lower the pressure (and thus temperature) of the extraction quite a bit. In all honesty, I still do them separately, unless I'm in a hurry.

    Just out of interest, what made you choose the Profitec over something like a Rocket? And which model grinder is that? Thx!

    • @TuoInside
      @TuoInside  4 роки тому +3

      kbesner The similarly priced Appartamento is also a nice machine. However, when considering already spending this amount on a machine, for a bit more the Profitec has a lot more features.
      Profitec gets bigger boiler and more powerful heating element. Boiler is also stainless steel and not copper. The more noticeable differences are the PID and brew pressure gauge. PID allows you to more quickly adjust brew temperature (and steam pressure) with touch of the button and also provides more temperature stability. If you want to play with temperature as another variable in perfecting your shot, it’s available.
      The next step up is dual boilers, which are about $1,000 more in the Rocket line. I wanted to try and get the most available features in an HX that were available.
      The grinder is a Eureka Mignon Silenzio. Thoroughly enjoying both parts of the setup currently. Thanks for watching!

    • @TuoInside
      @TuoInside  3 роки тому +1

      Yes, you can change the extraction pressure in the filter by adjusting the OPV valve inside the machine. The boiler pressure is adjusted by a PID that changes overall temperature which is accessible just behind the drip tray.

    Do you do a cooling flush that you’re not showing? Just wondering I’m trying to decide between the 500 and the 600.

    • @TuoInside
      @TuoInside  3 роки тому

      Cameron I am not overly concerned with exactness of temperate on my shots, as most of them end up in milk. I’ve been running the PID at 255F and don’t do a flush every time. Anything above probably 255 and up, you’re going to definitely get flash steam, which would be helpful to purge. More so true if you’re drinking straight espressos. I feel like the 500 is at a nice price for the amount of features you’d get. Of course double boiler is nice too but you’re paying $500 for better steam and consistency of brew temp.
      What kind of drinks do you like?

    • @CMRNCRWFRD
      @CMRNCRWFRD 3 роки тому

      TuoInside I’m not an expert on espresso so I don’t think I’ll even notice if the temps aren’t perfect I just don’t want to be forced to flush every time I go to use it and waste water. I’m mainly drinking milk drinks and I’d love to save the money if I can get away with the 500 I just don’t want to get it and go through water like crazy from flushing as my setup isn’t perfect right now and is under a cabinet. Thanks for the response it really helps to hear first hand from users.

      @@TuoInside Hey, on my pro 500 around even lower temp than you have yours set at, the water coming out is always in a straight line for a long time. Bubbling a little some time, but always coming out as described. Is that a problem as to chanelling? And is yours doing the same without a cooling flush? Im not worried about temperature being a little bit too high, it's mostly that the water is coming out in the middle and not well distributed

    • @TuoInside
      @TuoInside  3 роки тому

      @@marcus_marcus If I leave the machine on for a while before I get to it, I do get some bubbling/flash steam initially. It's usually running for about 45 minutes before I get to it. A purge would be ideal, but I'm not overly concerned with it in lattes.
      I usually diagnose channeling by the puck, not what comes out of the screen. It sounds like my stock screen does the same as yours, and doesn't look like a really evenly dispersed "shower". Pucks turn out well if I do my puck prep properly with nice distribution and tamp. You could also look at getting a replacement shower screen as an option as well.

    Which is good pro500 or la spaziale s1 vivaldi

    • @TuoInside
      @TuoInside  3 роки тому +1

      I would say they are both subjectively "good"... they fall in different categories.
      Pro500 is a single boiler heat exchanger machine, vivaldi is a dual boiler. They're also in different price points, the vivaldi is a step up in price, due to the second boiler.
      Heat exchanger has one PID and setting that will be used for both steam and espresso brew temp. Dual boiler you'll get finer control over each temperature individually. I think vivaldi also has more digital features like pre-infusion and timed or volumetric dosing somehow. Pro 500 is more of a traditional tried and true e61 grouphead manual design.
      Profitec also offers a dual boiler machine Pro 600 you may also want to check out.

    • @TuoInside
      @TuoInside  3 роки тому

      @@ragsa789 It looks like it's a saturated group head. Should also be pretty stable by means of water temp and not so much the heavier mass of an e61. You should be OK to go in either direction you prefer. Once you get beyond a single boiler dual purpose or thermacoil machine, it sort of comes down to brand preference or the features you like.
