Done it exactly as you described! Great result worked just fine,. Cost me 9.5 for the thermostat, 14 for the coolant and 3 Coors light! Thanks for your help
Because of your video I was able to change out my thermostat. That's what I'm doing today. I'm a 59 years young woman, I CAN DO IT, I DID IT. Part cost $6.49 at Napa Auto Parts, also bought anti freeze full strength $14.99 a gallon on sale. Thank you so so much and Merry Christmas to everyone. Robin in FL
One of the better auto repair videos out there. Everything from a description of the problem, the tools that you need and how to clear the code. Really impressed! Thank you!
I had the same issue with a 2012 Chevy Silverado with the 4.3L V6. Followed your instructions and fixed the issue for about $30 - a gallon of coolant was more expensive than the thermostat. Thank you so much for posting this video.
My 08 Sierra 4.3 overheats at 2 o clock at idle only, beacause cooling fans don't click on till 230F. What can I do? Anyone have this issue? Please help...
The dealer says its normal.that the trucks .are that way on purpose, I get that. But for it to overheat??is this a thumost at issue?of what?please help
Wonderful, wife called on way to doctor, quickly looked up on UA-cam, told her to go ahead to appointment, pick up thermostat and coolant on way home( total travel mileage about 35 miles each way). Your vid saved me a "service call" time wise(about 2 hrs as I was in the middle of something in shop). Love your idea on the belt routing diagram as I never noticed there wasn't one already.
Did this fix last night on my 2008 5.3L Silverado. thermostat housing underneath and a bit harder to get to (plus exits just about all the coolant) but it worked like a charm. you are my new hero. thanks!
Thanks for your video. Just replaced my T-stat due to the same indication from the trucks computer. Spent $25.00 total and about a half hour. I'm a hero again!
I had this problem last Wednesday night. Found this video and made it to O'Reilly's at 8:15 pm. $6 for thermostat $15 for deathkill and no profane tirades!!!! Great video, you broke it down Barney style, I replaced thermostat and unplugged battery for reset and it's corrected my issues! Thank you✌🏻
Worked like a charm. Took me about 15 min to totally change, fixed my engine hot a/c turned off problem. Lost about 1/2 gallon of coolant. Job is exactly like video showed for 4.3l V6.
Muchas gracias AMIGO!!!!!!!!! un saludo desde Guadalajara Jalisco Mexico .........thank you very much my friend!!!!!!!! a greeting from Guadalajara Jalisco Mexico
Great video and helpful explanations. I got that warning 30 miles in to a 130 mile trip. Without knowing the cause, I found the coolant level to be full. Stopped at a Home Depot for tools and removed the thermostat. Refilled coolant; made it home with heater on full blast and driving 45 mph. 2008 Silverado WT V6 with about 72,000 miles. Thanks!
This exact thing just happened to my 08 Silverado 4.3 V-6, this past Sat. the first cool front came in, I got up in the morning, drove about 6 miles, stopped for gas, found this problem when I started the truck back up. I can remove the battery cable for thirty seconds and the A/C will run again, the gauge comes back up and the fans quit running. As long as it is in the heat of the day it stays running fine. I just bought a thermostat and as soon as it cools off I'm going to try it. I had decided that was that was the problem, then I saw your video, so that just confirms what I thought. I'm a 35 year mechanic, but I don't do much computer work on cars.
Thank you so much for this video. I was minutes away from calling the dealership and taking my truck there. I went down to the local parts store and he had just recently done the same repairs to a family members truck and without telling him, he confirmed everything you said in this video. I went ahead and got the coolant sensor too, as he said he ended up having to put that on as well and with that, the thermostat, and coolant, it was about $47.00 total with tax in Dec. 2018. I was happy to get by with that amt. as my son can put it all on for free. Feeling relieved!!!!
Thanks! I got this message on my instrument panel and thought my truck was overheating, stopped twice when driving home so I could let the engine cool down (learned from you it wasn't actually overheating, just the thermostat failed). Once it stops raining, I'll head on over to O'reilley's to get a new part and replace. So thanks for this valuable video.
Thanks so much for the video. This happened to my ol man's truck and we could not figure out what exactly the problem was until we saw your posting. $5 for a replacement thermostat and $10 for more antifreeze fixed the issue. Took about 15 minutes total to replace.
Nice video my 2008 gmc yukon was doing the same thing. Went to auto zone bought a thermostat replaced it and it works my wife thinks I'm a mechanic now lol. Thanks For Your Help.
I left work a little bit ago and it says Engine hot ac turned off, I'm going to the store to get the coolant and t stat, you gave a lot of information thank you!!!
I've been working on cars for almost 50 years, but I don't start any job without checking UA-cam these days. This was exactly my problem, and a new thermostat and about half a jug of Dexcool fixed it right up-total cost about $25. Thanks for taking the time to make this very helpful and informative video.
I am having this issue. I have not changed thermostat but that is my next step. I have replaced the temp sensor that is in the side of the head. Also, note that while having this issue you can disconnect battery cable and it will reset and temporarily fix the issue. My problem occurs sporadically and sometimes it fixes itself. If, the thermostat change does not fix the problem, I suggest there is an issue with wiring or connectors.
Thank you so much. I have a 2010 Silverado and your video was perfect. Taking the negative battery cable to reset the computer not only cleared the temperature warning, but also the tire sensor that came on when I got the tires rotated.
I spent several hours doing research trying to fond the sensor. Your video nailed it. I have a 2008 silverado 4.8 liter v8 and it solved my problem. Great video and helpful. Thank you.
Very helpful video, nicely done. I have this exact model Silverado, experienced the same symptoms. Completed the repair in 25 minutes as described in this video. Resolved perfectly. Thank you for taking the time to share this video.
Thanks for the video, I did exactly what was clearly explained by you and it fixed the problem on my 2009 Silverado. Keeping making videos man appreciate the help!
I did what you said. It took me ten minutes.. And the gasket was 6.00I want again to thank you. You saved me money and time... Everything is back to normal. ..
john crummett I had the same problem and it didn't work when I replaced the thermostat but I unhooked the positive post on battery for few minutes and let codes reset and turned it back on and it was fixed!
Thx for the info. Just changed out my thermostat. $10. Quick and Super Easy. I did panic when i started truck after installation and problem continued, but after a ride around the block, it cleared. Problem Resolved. THX Again..
Awesome! Thanks for the explanation. Now if someone would post a video on how to change my wiper motor and wiper transmission, that would be great. I don't want to pay someone $800 for the repair. Rain X works fine until I figure that repair out. Seriously though, this video just made my day. Puts my mind at ease.
Fantastic video! Love the idea of writing down notes on your truck. I have the same problem with my 2009 GMC V6 1500. It's five years old now and I need to flush the radiator as well.
Thx! It worked.. happened to me earlier today.. was working fine stopped n put in gas n turned it on n dat message popped up. But ur video helped me a lot.. thx again..
Thank you Aeroaggie!!! Changed the t stat and also replace the driver side low beam headlamp (4th time in 3 years) the only thing I need to do is check the coolant, not able to open the coolant cap, its stuck on there.
thanks so much man, I had the exact same issue today. you saved me so much trouble! I appreciate this video. I have the same size engine but the 2013 model.
Great job ....my 2009 Silverado turned 40,000 and bingo, the warning message "engine hot, ac turned off. That confusing, because the engine was not hot and the cooling fans ran constantly. The size socket was also mentioned, I bought the thermostat, extensions drive and socket (size 10) which also fit my negative connection on my battery. The total cost was 27.00 dollars. I saved a lot of money not taking it to a garage. I also drawled my belt and pulleys under my hood.
thanks for explaining that ..it made no sense ...engine running cold ...and its trying to say engine hot...wish I would have saw this before I changed the D--- temp sensor., thanks again.chaning thermostat tommorrow
Done it exactly as you described! Great result worked just fine,. Cost me 9.5 for the thermostat, 14 for the coolant and 3 Coors light! Thanks for your help
Julio Munoz coors light might as well pay for water

I replaced the thermostat 1 year ago or less and today it started again.
I had the same issue with a 2012 Chevy Silverado with the 4.3L V6.
Followed your instructions and fixed the issue for about $30 - a gallon of coolant was more expensive than the thermostat. Thank you so much for posting this video.
Alban Brooke my trucks a 2011, so I'm glad you replied to this video, that there is hope on me being able to do this
Awesome! It seems like it's pretty common with the 4.3L V6. Best of luck!
