This song came on the radio just as the sun came out while we were travelling through Rhayader about the time the song was released as a single.Always think of that moment when I hear the song.
another great record by a group of people who are greatly over looked they each are great at their craft and with all the different assemblies they each have been part of added a great amount of music pleasure in my life all these years thanks for the post
Lay down your weary tune, lay down Lay down the song you strum And rest yourself beneath the strength of strings No voice can hope to hum Struck by the sounds before the sun I knew the night had gone The morning breeze like a bugle blew Against the drums of dawn The ocean wild like an organ played The seaweed wove and strands The crashin' waves like cymbals clashed Against the rocks and sands The last of leaves fell from the trees And clung to a new love's breast The branches bare like a banjo monk To the winds that listened the best
@@TheScunneredMan I had this as a 7"single in the early seventies,on the Capitol label.l haven't heard this version by McGuiness Flint for what must be forty years plus-it sounded great to me then, and everybit as good now,if not better.l no longer have that single, but l now intend to find a copy.l had a number of their singles at the time, and all of them were impressive.l seem to recall, believe it or not, that it was a B-side!!!
Fantastic music
Just heard this on Sounds of the 70’s. What a great version must listen to the album.

This was one that got away, I understand that Dylan only sang it once in public Dylan at his very best.

Here, here, Cary
The words are like wordsworth...
Lay down your weary tune, lay down
Lay down the song you strum
And rest yourself beneath the strength of strings
No voice can hope to hum
Struck by the sounds before the sun
I knew the night had gone
The morning breeze like a bugle blew
Against the drums of dawn
The ocean wild like an organ played
The seaweed wove and strands
The crashin' waves like cymbals clashed
Against the rocks and sands
The last of leaves fell from the trees
And clung to a new love's breast
The branches bare like a banjo monk
To the winds that listened the best
