Very cool raid, great enviroments, cool bosses, some fun mechanics. Would of liked to have been in a situation to have wiped on a boss once but fun none the less. Everyone else enjoy there time in FFXI? :)
@@SamsonGrey26 yeah I was in a raid that wiped on every boss, figuring it out on the fly was fun. Also, some of the raid wides/stacks do a tremendous amount of damage. It could have been gear ilvl or having fewer people up, but there are multiple 24 person stacks, that obliterate the raid if your slightly undermanned. It’s worth having a healer outside of some of them XD
If there is one really critical moment for healers to know in the final boss fight, it’s toward the end, near the end of the bosses clone sequence when he initiates the propagating line pattern (plus shaped mechanic). He also does an X shaped snap shot AoE while the clone’s line AoEs are propagating. Surviving that mech is key for healers since most usually die there (like full parties). You have enough time to use the healer Rez Limit break since he does a basic raid wide after. The key to dodging the + shaped moving line AoEs is to start on the cardinal he places last, off centered. Then dodge toward the first line AoE side-let it slide by you, you have lots of time before the one under you starts to travel. Then you just need to repeat the same sorta diagonal dodge (eyeball it) from the clone’s traveling AoE. It’s much easier to dodge if you are near the center of the arena. Also for the dragon boss, dodging the same similar moving AoEs (but circular) during the tornado phase is key. Use lots of mit before that attack comes out since it does a lot of damage and any mit might not fall off for the dodging part. If the moving AoE starts on the edges, it will continue to start there for the rest of that tornado phase, it can also start in the middle. When it starts on the outside, the mechanic is a bit more difficult since there are larger cycling tornadoes around the outside you have to constantly rotate with.
Yep good alternative! note for anyone looking for this its only the first one where it you get the 'big wait for it' text box across the screen. after that its in a small speech bubble above her!
@@spyderXIIIyeah but there's also the speech bubble and the text in chat. Like what a weird point to make. They were just being helpful adding a tip and you're all like "yeah, but!" I mean the guide literally says deaf people can also watch her arm...
When the dragon boss does the donut he doesn't always follow up with the point blank, sometimes he does the 270 degree with the safe spot in front. Basically you can go stand by the head when he does the donut, but be prepared for him to spin around, which indicates he's instead going to tail swipe where the head was
Here's the official description from the FF14 Console Wiki page. Doom Arc: A long cast that will inflict high magical raidwide damage and a 15-second Bleed debuff. Will also grant Shadow Lord a Damage Up stack.
Though I don't play FFXIV, these bosses are a nice nod to FFXI, the character models are as I remember them. Though Shadow Lord never had clones when fighting in XI. For some reason I thought it would've been Maat as the final boss. Anyway, seeing those bosses brought back some old and fond memories in XI.
First boss charge mechanic, she also says it out which is how I got through it 1st time without death. From your video I see it also shows in chat, so plenty of options. Having survived that, I thought, is this an easy tier? No! Spent most of the time on 2nd boss floor tanking. I just couldn't see the tells but this guide should mean I'm prepared for next time.
Honestly, I saw Doom Arc cast several times and it did nothing. If it's just a raid wide, the damage is almost negligible. Weird with that long cast time.
Tried running it this morning and wound up with a toxic group that harassed and kicked me on the last boss cause I was struggling with reading the giga slash especially and kept dying like come on guys it’s literally the first day and a lot of us have been on a break from the game… plus I have ADHD and get confused with a lot going on Shadow Lord is a lot harder than Naldthal was on the first day.
If it was through duty finder you should be able to report that. The only reasonable expectation there is that you are doing what you can and an honest but struggling effort is not an acceptable reason to boot someone.
@@toychristopher the timing on some of the mechanics is quite tight, I’d say it’s def more difficult that prior EW alliance raids. It’s sorta like some of the bosses in Bozja in difficulty level. The visibility on a few things is quite annoying. Like the sword indication the final boss for the alternating protean safe spots is a bit un clear without a specific camera angle. This is a change from Alliance raids which typically have VERY unambiguous indicators and forgiving snapshots.
This is Proto-Ozma level of difficulty (i.e. final boss of the Baldesion Arsenal) and that boss requires everyone be in a Discord call to listen to the shot caller tell you what to do next. Way too hard for a group of randos not on comms to run blind without wiping or blowing LB3 on mass rezzing, especially when the encounter design violates several known Revealed Preferences of MMO players. You either waste your time (a 20 minute, TOPS, instance goes for 30 or longer), get kicked, or everyone to watch _and master_ guides like this _before queuing up._ This would be fine for Chaotic; that's for full premades on comms. I fully expect this version to get nerfed once performance metrics come in.
@@FubukiShiromiya I did it random first day and we cleared every boss. Still I found it annoying, especially the final boss. I don't get building a clear visual language throughout the game and then throwing it out for telegraphs that are hard to interpret.
That's a lot of overcapped gauge. Kaiten could have helped here, but buttons do nothing if not pressed. You can't help anybody with that, it's on them to do their due diligence.

SL was a good challenge
Clean guide, no filler. Excellent job as always, man.
Doom Arc is a raid wide that gives Shadow Lord a damage up buff each time it casts. So it’s a soft enrage of sorts
Fab guide! I love the no faff approach ❤
Really enjoyed this one - some fun mechanics! I found listening to Prishe's "Wait for it..." to be helpful for keeping track of the counts.
Yep didn't realise the wait for it was also tracking it first time around. good alternative option to looking at the arm!
that's how i initially figured it out lol
I love patch day raids, everyone just gets stomped equally and it's super fun to adapt mid-fight.
I don't understand why its "super fun" to die repeatedly.
one day later and i got into party of tryhards. 0 talk in chat, no exploration, no waiting for cutscene watchers.
Our partys turned against each other 😟 Even tried to vote abandon, after just 1-2 tries for each boss.
Very good explanation, thanks !

I've been trying to finish this since yesterday, my PUGs and I keep wiping, lol. This helps a lot to understand mechanics, thank you!
There he is! I was waiting for this, always the best guides lol
Appeciated! :)
Holy smokes that was fast. Thanks for the video👍🏻
No probs, hopefully fast enough! :)
Great Guide as always! Was looking forward to it the whole day. Thank you!
Good guide
You don’t have to watch the arm spin, every “wait for it” is one interval

Love to know if it's possible for the boss to amass enough damage up stacks to cause a full wipe!
Doom Arc seemed to just be a raidwide, we saw it cast twice.
Ah OK, seemed to have a slower cast, more gravitas! 🤣

Shadow Lord has clones when you fight him in Dynamis Xarcabard.
Thank you.
Hopefully, they'll make BLM more mobile, because we got our running shoes on in this one.

I'm pretty sure there is no enrage on the last boss. Experience: it took us 35 mins due to deaths.
I don't think the last boss has enrage based on taking forever to kill him on my run that had multiple healer lb3s
